and I did not think I could keep going. Hearing the crowd cheer gave me the courage
to finish the race. I could see someone getting really close behind me, so with all of

Jimmy Santiago Baca s Coming into Language displays a dark, yet uplifting view of
the power of literacy. From his beginning in the hospital, toward the end during his
imprisonment, Baca moves from the mindset of a rebellious teenager to a poetic
adult. Through vivid descriptions, metaphors, the appeal to the audiences emotions,
and Baca sets up a transformational framework to show how literacy can be a way of
escape. Baca s story seeks to explain a point of view that one is more likely to
become incarcerated and to struggle in life if he is uneducated. I wrote to
sublimate my rage, from a place where all hope is gone, from a madness of having
been damaged too much, from a silence of killing rage (Baca).
In his writing, Baca uses word pictures to show a side of despair in his life that
eventually leads to a positive change where he now has hope. The beginning is
filled with scenarios of him working in an emergency room mopping up pools of

A Separate Peace by John Knowles tells a story of the external and internal wars a
person experiences in their lifetime. During the summer session of 1942 at Devon
Academy, introverted student Gene Forrester follows in the footsteps of his carefree
yet ambitious best friend, Phineas. Gene starts to envy Finny s charisma rather than
admire. The growth of his selfish desires to transform into Finny contradicts Gene s

all users while everything happening online was broadcasted and permanently saved

Dave Eggers is an American novelist and screenwriter. Eggers has gained a lot of
experience through his literary work, and due to his collaboration with Salon, a

I was practically raised in the bowling alley. Considering my mother started
bowling around the time I was born, I was practically born into one. For as long as

their enemies. It is believed that dogs were first used in combat over 15,000 years

high stress or combative situations. While they are tremendously protective and agile
