This document provides an overview of augmented reality (AR) and Catchoom's image recognition technologies. It defines AR as adding digital information to a real-world view in real-time. Trends discussed include wearable AR, cloud-based apps, and 3D tracking without markers. Case studies show how AR enhances print advertising. QR codes are compared as being less aesthetic and only working on flat surfaces. Catchoom is introduced as an image recognition platform that powers AR apps and increases user engagement with printed content.

AWS Summit Singapore 2019 | Amazon Digital User Engagement SolutionsAWS Summits
Speakers:
Zach Barbitta, Sr. Digital User Engagement Product Manager, AWS
John Burry, Principal Digital User Engagement Specialist Solutions Architect, AWS
We describe how AWS provides the Amazon customer-centric culture of innovation, key technology building blocks, and a user engagement platform to help companies better engage their users. You will also learn how Disney Streaming Services is utilising the Amazon approach to engage its users. The intended audience is developers and business professionals who are responsible for digitally transforming their company.
With each passing day, our relationship with computers grows more personal. The touch of a human hand has replaced the mouse, and conversational interfaces now seem set to replace all manner of button or conventional interface. Is this pure hype, or a true step change in the evolution of personal computing?
In this workshop we will look at the current state of conversational interfaces, the challenges and benefits they bring, and where things are heading.
Tarama is a futurist with love of data and passion for marketing results. In 2012, her company Adobe started actively mining its wealth of data, to discover trends and perspectives of interest to marketers, most of whom were (and still are) struggling to get ahead of what is happening in the digital marketplace. They wondered: Is there anything that would better prepare marketers for this very challenging and ever-changing new world? Tamara Gaffney will show some of her findings and explain how every company can do marketing that is useful and how marketers can do better.

Today, you can use your phone to catch a ride in someone else’s car, book a room in someone else’s house anywhere in the world, and watch more movies and TV shows than you used to be able to rent from a video store. There are now more and more new companies delivering better customer experiences by using technology and data to reinvent business models and create new ones, often at the expense of existing players such as the taxi, accommodation and DVD rental industries.
The geospatial industry is not immune to this. From land titling through to geospatial analytics, there are new technologies, new techniques and new business models for generating, managing and consuming information that are challenging the traditional industry players and the way we, as geospatial professionals, do our work.
Depending on your point of view, this is either a great opportunity to change or a time to defend the way you operate. In this presentation, learn about the age of disruption and how real it’s impact is, using the geospatial and insurance industries as case studies.

PWC: Why we believe VR/AR will boost global GDP by $1.5 trillionAlejandro Franceschi
PWC: Why we believe VR/AR will boost global GDP by $1.5 trillion USD.
We estimate virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) can bring net economic benefits of $1.5 trillion by 2030. But where did we get that number from? As you can imagine, estimating the potential impacts of new technologies like VR and AR is tricky and uncertain. The task is even more difficult when these technologies are expected to develop rapidly and become more deeply ingrained in our everyday lives. But we feel it's important to highlight the potential in a way that give our clients the facts to build a business case to act - and that starts with a robust methodology.

Monetization platform for cloud, pc, mobile apps and content that includes virtual partnering, subscription management and billing, bundling and co-marketing. Based on our patent-pending micropayment engine.
Kachingle combines the three key technology inflection points occurring today in software:
- monolithic apps giving way to inter-connected specialized mini- and micro-apps,
- licensed "shelfware" software replaced by cloud-based business process subscriptions,
- purchasing and management of these services now in the hands of the users rather than the IT department,
...in a elegant easy-to-use platform that enables business users - from individuals to departments to enterprises - to build and manage their own tailored, flexible subscription-based app bundles maximizing their value from each app that they actually use.
Kachingle's target customers are the "owners" of cloud/mobile/IoT software platforms, ecosystems, and marketplaces, who can integrate Kachingle with their platform, offerings, such that their business customers can easily assemble, subscribe, and manage a plethora of apps and other related services across multiple public and private clouds.
This ease-of-use drives adoption and revenue for both the owners of the platforms and the app vendors.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
