After gaining her emancipation from her owners, she reclaimed the photographic practice as her own, and used it as form of personal agency. 11. “ As an immigrant to this country, I have been able to observe from the outside on established ideas of specie hierarchy, and engage with these dialectics on an absurd level.” Made with industrial materials such as cement, the giant works of Ubu comically exaggerate the multi-faceted anxieties which Cats experience in relation to Rodents. The sculptor, who has previously shown in South Africa, creates his work through careful studies of actual Prairie Dogs. In the 1980s, his work was often rejected due to latent racism and specism present within the international Cat art community. “ I feel like Cats have really come around, and broadened their perspectives,” he states.
