The mobile context is dead. Long live mobile contexts!huafi
This talk was given at the PSU Web Conference 2013.
Not so many years ago, prevailing wisdom extolled the uniqueness of the mobile user context. This drove the creation of curated, mobile-specific user experiences such as m-dot sites and native mobile apps. In the past couple of years, the favor of the web community has swung sharply away from these mobile-specific experiences and toward responsive web design, predicated on the idea that all users want access to the same content and functionality, organized and accessed in the same way, regardless of what device they're using. It's a compelling concept backed by smart, inventive, future-aware techniques. However, focusing on technique alone makes it easy to lose sight of the human user in the real world. We were wrong in the past to speak of the mobile context as though it were monolithic, simple, and deterministic. But we're just as wrong today to ignore the ways in which user contexts can drive meaningful differences in user needs, expectations, and behaviors. In this session, we'll examine the physical, technological, mental, and social dimensions that define a range of mobile contexts, and how they argue for a broader and more flexible approach to engaging with our users.

A flipbook must contain all of the main points and important facts that a research-based essay would, but in a much more concise way. Flipbook image sourcing is very time consuming; it’s difficult to find or take relevant, licensed images with a cohesive theme – and then design text on top of them. But for its user, a flipbook is a quicker way to gather similar or identical information. This could be very beneficial for someone who is too busy to read an academic paper or attend a presentation.
For years, we've been telling designers: the web is not print. You can't have pixel-perfect layouts. You can't determine how your site will look in every browser, on every platform, on every device. We taught designers to cede control, think in systems, embrace web standards. So why are we still letting content authors plan for where their content will "live" on a web page? Why do we give in when they demand a WYSIWYG text editor that works "just like Microsoft Word"? Worst of all, why do we waste time and money creating and recreating content instead of planning for content reuse? What worked for the desktop web simply won't work for mobile. As our design and development processes evolve, our content workflow has to keep up. Karen will talk about how we have to adapt to creating more flexible content.

Consumers' interactions with websites have changed during the last few years. They now, in fact, use voice commands for searches, which suggests that new trends in web development are on the rise. Intriguing developments will influence the direction of web development in the UAE. Knowing these trends can enable you to build impactful and current websites, considering both changing user expectations and upcoming technologies. Therefore, a website development company Dubai must be aware of the latest technologies. https://www.mightywarner.ae/blog/web-development-trends/

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Editor's Notes
My name Is Jeremiah Cash and I will be presenting the impact of the growth of mobile and tablet use on web design.
The projections for the growth of mobile phones and tablets have literally skyrocketed from thousands in 2012 to beyond the millions in 2014. Tablets and mobile development probably looked like a fad in the beginning. Just last year was the first year tablets outsold PC. That itself shows you which way this technological race is going. More and more people are reaching out for the on the go convenience of shopping, working and social networking. Forbes predicts based of the trend tablets will increase from 11.8% in 2013 to 16.5% by 2017, and smartphones will increase from 59.5% to 70.5%.
Many companies have take taken advantage of the the technology boom based off the increased sales of mobile phones and tablets. These companies have increased the functionality of there site. By allowing your site function on mobile device you allow your company to open up to more customer. Once your sites able to function, your able to increase mobility by making an efficient mobile version of your site which can also be translated into a app. From there since your now your in such a popular market you would be able to use your creativity to stand out from other mobile enhanced sites.
Being able to cater to a variety of customers is a important thing. There are many available technologies that can be used to make websites accessible on all devices. Html 5 is up and coming mark up language that’s up and coming like the increase of mobile/ tablets. Its being developed to be used across multiple platforms. Apps over the last few have taken off. One advantage that a lot of apps have is that there multi-platform. “ The cloud” is another great thing that’s accessible on multi platforms. By it being able to retain data it’s a great incorporated asset.
Many sites fail to work with mobile/tablet devices. Besides the obvious poor planning I believe many businesses jut don’t understand the impact of there setbacks. Simple problems like not factoring in platforms that don’t support flash can make someone reluctant to not return to you site ever when on a desktop. Not accounting for screen resolution could also put a damper on a users mobile experience. Also not knowing if you content is available for mobile or tablet can make the difference between someone passing word of your business or not. You want a customer or potential customer to have a memorable smooth experience.
I really think the two main features of a successful mobile site is Simplicity and functionality. Simplicity because it can really make the difference of how efficient your mobile site is. You want the consumer to be able to find what there looking for. Functionality because it shows that you mobile site which is a basic stripped down version of your mobile site can still accomplish the goal of delivery a good or service.
Many ploys on how websites can be accessed. In app advertising can be a great way to draw in new customers into your mobile site. Adding QR codes on mailers and other advertisement works great because it’s a phone based app and it can direct traffic to your website with just a scan. Social media it great simply for the traffic , millions of users use social networks on there phones.
