- The 3 main programs to use if you want to make your web content universal across all devices are Device Atlas, WURFL, and User Agent Detection. With the help of these User Agent Detection, it contacts the server and the server then makes the decision based on the browser and what sort of content it requires. The former 2 programs rely on Java Script to make the contact.
- I’ve never been a fan of the brand, but their web developer knows their stuff! This is one of the prettiest, well thought out mobile pages I’ve used in a long time. There was one picture that was interactive, multiple choices for what I would need and I didn’t have to scroll to see the important stuff.
- This was a little tough to do because this is my company I currently work for. On my laptop, this BMW site is exactly the same format as all the other stores. Clean, well put together and with the normal navigation bar up top. The mobile though, is horrible. It’s cheap looking for a luxury company, I have to scroll to even see any of the product we sell, and there’s a lot going on. Ouch.
- Sephora can do no wrong by my standards, both their in store and online presence! It’s a quick load, and when the page displays I see all the things I came to the site looking for in big boxed topics without scrolling. No small hyperlinks. Perfect for little screens. They made the whole background an image as not to compromise the content, and it’s done as clean and sophisticated as the image they portray.
- Although they claim to be Sephora’s competitor, both their store and mobile site is a mess. I visited this page to be met with sales gimmicks and no important content above the fold. Lots of scrolling which seemed never-ending. It wasn’t easy on the eyes, and it seemed they are trying to pack a whole lot into a little, forgetting it’s mobile.
- To make sure Collin’s Catering has a well executed mobile presence, we need to make it both tablet and mobile phone friendly. Using device detectors such as User Agent will help take the guess work out of formatting for different devices, as well as standard resolution sizes. Keeping the site clean, clutter free and using the “less is more” motto will be emphasized. Content is key, and only important navigation should be above the fold so users on the go don’t have to waste time scrolling and searching the site for something quick. Conversion will be better and it will make the user experience successful, as well as the business.
