Parenting styles vary across cultures and influence child development. Authoritarian parenting, common in Asian cultures, is very controlling with strict rules and punishments but little warmth. Authoritative parenting, as in Bosnian culture, encourages open communication, applies fair discipline, and provides nurturing. Permissive parenting is very caring but lacks structure and rules. Effective parenting requires setting guidelines, teaching right from wrong with love and comfort, and explaining rules are for the child's safety.

A parent must have knowledge of what is
going on in a child’s life.
They must know where the child is at, at all
times and what he/she is doing in their free
time.
Parents who are unknowledgeable of their
child’s whereabouts can result in the child
getting into trouble and could lead to a life of
delinquency.


When parents are more likely to talk about the problem, it is
more likely for the kid to understand what he/she did wrong and
know how it hurt their parents by them getting in trouble. This
has a better effect on the child than physical discipline.

When a parent physically disciplines their child, the child may
end up just fearing the consequence rather than completely
understanding what he/she did wrong.
