A crime scene is the
space where a crime or
incident takes place.
CRIME SCENE REPORT
In an organised step by step approach scene
documentation is one of the stages in the
proper processing of a crime scene.
In documenting the scene there are actually 3
functions or methods used to properly document
the crime scene.
Those methods consist of written notes which
will ultimately be used in constructing a
● Final report
● Crime scene potographs
● Diagram or sketch
The notes and reports should be done in a chronological order and should include
no opinions, no conclusions or no analysis
Narrative section of the report divided into 5 categories:
1. Summary
2. Scene
3. Processing
4. Evidence collected
5. Pending
The summary would basically give the details of how we were initiated into the
investigation.
In the scene section of the narrative we give a detailed description of the scene as
it is seen upon our approach.
The processing section is for our units to describe what we did, if assistance was
needed during the processing stages, who we had assisting, and what functions
they did.
The evidence collection section is to organize what evidence we and others
assisting were able to recover from the crime scene
The pending section would be for any known tasks that would need to be
completed at a later date in the investigation.
FIELD NOTES
Field notes are the primary method the crime scene investigator uses to commit
their observations to writing.
The written notes also serve as the written form to memorialize the scene as you
found it.
Field notes enable the crime scene investigator to keep detailed record of what
they did.
The notes should be complete and thorough.Remember that the notes will be
used to write the final report.
NEERAJ GROVER MURDER CASE
Neeraj Grover was the victim of a murder case.
Maria Susairaj, a kannada actress, happened
to be the lady to whom Neeraj was attracted.
Their affection and intimacy grew to a certain
level over a period of time. On 7 May 2008, he
was allegedly killed by Emile Jerome Mathew,
Maria’s fiancée. Mathew, in the rage of anger
and without any premeditation, in a sudden
fight, killed Neeraj Grover.
Evidences found, leading to suspicion
The forensic team was sent to Maria’s house for the investigation and also
because of the growing suspicion on her. On-going process of investigation by the
forensic team led to reveal that the bed sheets, curtains and everything leading to
suspicion was newly brought. It was also discovered that the latch of the door and
some other places had blood stains. The blood stains were collected and sent for
examination and identification.
In a similar phase, Maria also filed a police complaint on 9th May at Malad police
station. She informed the police that Neeraj went missing since she last met her
on May 6th in her apartment and a matter of fact that he left his phone behind.
Verdict
After a careful and detailed analysis of all the
evidences found and collected in the case, the
witnesses and proofs from both sides, the Additional
session judge pronounced his decision. Emile
Jerome Matthew was found guilty of culpable
homicide not amounting to murder under section
304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and
imprisonment of 10 years was sentenced to him.
Maria was penalized for an offence which was
destructing the evidence under the section 204 IPC
and with 3 years of imprisonment. The court did not
hold her guilty of murder.
According to the court, the murder of Neeraj Grover
was not premeditated which is an exception to
section 300 IPC. The death was caused due to
anger, rage, and quarrel thus pleading him guilty of
culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Conviction of the Golden State Killer, 1974-1986:
Joseph James DeAngelo was arrested and
charged with 13 counts of murder in 2018, linked
to multiple unsolved cold cases that dated as far
back as 1974. To find him, investigators used
public genealogy databases matching the efforts
with data obtained from the victims’ relatives
leading them closer and closer until they found
DeAngelo himself by using his discarded items,
such as razors and napkins, to obtain his DNA
which connected him to 13 murders, 51 sexual
assaults, and 120 burglaries
