The process of solving new problems based on the solutions of similar past problems.
CBR is not only a powerful method for computer reasoning but also a pervasive behavior in everyday human problem solving.
Related to prototype theory, which is most deeply explored in cognitive science.

4. Definitions
● Case Based Reasoning is reasoning by remembering. -Leake, 1996
● A case based reasoner solves new problems by adapting solutions that were
used to solve old problems. -Riesbeck & Schank, 1989
● CBR is concerned with the use of remembered prior experiences in analyzing
new situations and solving problems. -C.D. Hafner, 2001
5. Process
Case-based reasoning has been formalized for purposes of computer reasoning as
a four-step process:
Retrieve:
Given a new case, retrieve similar cases from the case base.
Reuse:
Adapt the retrieved cases to fit to the new case.
Revise:
Evaluate the solution and revise it based on how well it works.
Retain:
Decide whether to retain this new case in the case base.
