Benefits of Lean IT and it's importance.
The world is a merry-go-round and you can't get off. Customers are becoming more demanding, markets are becoming more customised, and product life-cycles that are getting shorter are just a few of the reasons why Lean could be important to you. As the demands on our processes increase they evolve and adapt accordingly which often results in processes that end up inefficient and wasteful. Lean is about challenging the way things are done and opening our eyes to that waste and inefficiency. The environment in which an organization operates will continue to change; Lean can help organizations meet the challenge.
Lean can provide an organization with a clear competitive advantage since the correct application of the Lean principles will realise substantial benefits that include:
- Greater productivity
- Greater throughput
- Improved quality
- Reduced cycle times
- Less fire-fighting
- Smoother operation
- Reduced operating costs

Webinar: 7 Steps to a Successful ITSM Tool ImplementationNavvia
Watch the webinar with FULL AUDIO here: http://navvia.com/resources/webinars/7-steps-to-a-successful-itsm-tool-implementation/
Presentation Description:
Have you been told by your ITSM tool vendor “Don’t worry, it works out of the box.” or “No problem, we can stand it up in a week.” Has your boss said to you “Why do you need so much time to develop a process, it’s SaaS - just turn it on!”
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve talked to people who were disappointed with a tool implementation project. Over the years, and with every generation of ITSM tools, I’ve heard the same thing. “It works out of the box on day 1!” When it doesn’t work, it’s the tool that gets the blame – and people switch to a new one - costing time and money.
In my experience, 7 things have bubbled up to the surface as critical to success.
Join David Mainville in this one hour interactive webinar where he will discuss:
Find out where the gaps are – you are looking to improve things;
Don’t start from scratch – there are a lot of great templates out there
Don’t try this on your own – a process built in isolation will never be accepted by anyone
Don’t be a technophobe – drive the technical requirements you need for automation
Don’t forget to validate – make sure people buy into what you built
Don’t forget to educate – training is the most important step to adoption
Don’t forget governance – a process that is left on its own will die
This is a very practical and essential presentation for process owners, process managers, ITSM tool implementation project teams and ITIL experts.
What changes are needed to your PMO to allow agile projects to be successful and for your business to get the most out of Lean Thinking. These combined approaches can boost the ROI of your entire business.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

2019 Résumé
of
Carolyn Joanne JOHNSON
17770 Newton Loop Unit 49
Chino Hills, CA 91709 USA
2. • Was selected by our CIO to be a member of the DevOps/Agile Advisory Board which was formed in September
2017 to help transform our IS organization’s culture and way we approach our processes going from waterfall to
Scrum/LeSS.
• As a Board member, we collectively started and facilitated many of the CoPs that continue to exist today, as well as,
our weekly Lean Coffee sessions.
• We held events such as Sprint Review Bazaar, Scrum Masters Dojo Workshop, Tech Expo and assisted with the
New IS Employee Orientation program, as well as creating a monthly newsletter.
• As a Scrum Master, I am a servant-leader for the Finance Product Team, where I focus on the needs of the Team,
helping them to do their work by removing any existing impediments which prevents them from achieving their
goals.
• Coaching the Teams and the Product Owner (PO) to understand the Scrum theories, values, rules, practices, as
well as self-organization, managing our Product Backlog and cross-training. Some of the ways I accomplished
this was by emailing videos, inviting the Teams to the CoPs and the Lean Coffee sessions, emailing articles and
recommended books to read on the subject of Agile/Scrum/LeSS and communicating things I’ve either learned
and/or discussed amongst other Scrum Masters and our Agile coaches of possible ways we can experiment to
help in the transition.
• Encourage the Teams to pair/mob each week so they become proficient with the skillsets necessary to complete the
PBIs pulled in each Sprint to generate a product increment.
• Work with the Teams on Technical Excellence to reduce our technical debt by refactoring code and developing TDD
(Test Driven Development) practices and unit test automation to realize the benefits such as tests running faster,
be more reliable (less human intervention), reusable code, stress test (volume) and early defect detection.
• Facilitating our Scrum Ceremonies (Sprint Planning Part 1 and Part 2, Refinement, Daily Standups, Sprint Review
and Sprint Retrospective) and working with our Agile Coaches. Our Sprints are time-boxed two weeks.
• Worked with the Teams and the PO to produce the following artifacts: Product Vision, Sprint goals, Product
Backlog, Sprint Backlog, Definition of Done, Working Agreement, Fire Lane Rules, and Plan-2-Done. Worked
with the Teams to produce a Skills Matrix which included a heat map identifying our vulnerabilities (gaps) and
developed lesson plans for each Team member so we can close in on the gaps.
• We have successfully created unit and functional test scripts in the open systems platform.
• We are currently creating a prototype for mainframe unit and functional testing using Topaz Workbench.
• Participated in our first Scrum Master Dojo Workshop and we have another one coming up in July 2019.
• Coach other Scrum Masters.
• Currently, working on high priorities for CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) for our Finance mainframe and
open systems applications (must be completed by Jan 2020), as well as TQS5 (PII and PHI data/masking/
encryption/tokenization). These are ongoing activities through the end of 2019.

management responsibilities (e.g., hiring, performance reviews).
• Understanding the IT structure and responsibilities of other areas/units that impact assigned projects or
maintenance.
• Works with IS Management, Project Leaders, Project Team Members, and outside vendors to provide technology
processes and business solutions.

before releasing the unit of work for implementation including prioritizing tasks to team.
• Understands the problems and provides resolution/recommendations.
2
3. • Makes recommendation on staff hiring, promotions, salary adjustments, and disciplinary actions.
