The document discusses the development of two models for clinical psychology training: the PhD scientist-practitioner model and the PsyD practitioner-oriented model. The PhD model emphasizes balanced training in both research and clinical practice, as recommended at the 1949 Boulder Conference, while the PsyD model places relatively greater emphasis on clinical skills training in response to criticism that the PhD model was unrealistic. The document traces the history of these models, from early formulation of the PhD model to establishment of PsyD programs beginning in the 1960s in response to calls for an alternative practitioner-focused approach.
The document summarizes several theories of counseling psychology:
- Psychodynamic theory, developed by Freud, focuses on the influence of childhood events on adult mental functioning and the interaction between conscious and unconscious minds.
- Behavioral theory, developed by theorists like Thorndike and Skinner, focuses on how environmental factors shape behavior through conditioning principles.
- Trait-factor theory aims to help clients with career guidance and decision-making by identifying their unique personality traits and abilities.
Board-certified in clinical psychology, Joseph Frey, PhD, practices his profession in the Augusta, GA, area, conducting psychological assessments of adults, adolescents, and children. This document provides an overview of a presentation on the new science of morality and how it applies to professional ethics in psychology. It discusses how morality is influenced by emotions and heuristics rather than rational algorithms. It introduces the Ethical Acculturation Model which describes how personal ethics integrate with professional obligations over time. Key concepts covered include moral foundations theory, moral emotions, cognitive biases in decision-making, and applying an ethical framework of autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, fidelity and justice to clinical scenarios. The goal is to help psychologists make ethical decisions by considering both intuitive and deliberative thought processes.

This document provides an overview of a course on counseling and psychotherapy. It discusses the objectives of the course, which are for students to understand counseling and psychotherapy principles, techniques, and strategies. It also covers the philosophical foundations of different counseling theories and compares counseling and psychotherapy. Theories are grouped into psychodynamic, experiential, action-oriented, systems-oriented, and postmodern approaches. CHAPTER 8Introduction
Introduction
As an undergraduate, it’s easy to think of psychology as this very static discipline, and if you want more information about some type of behavior, you conduct a search and the information comes to you. As you fulfill the curriculum of your
undergraduate program, your professors and your online courses bring you information,
and your textbooks provide a wealth of knowledge about the subject matter. The Voices
from the Workplace feature box describes a passive approach to learning and under-
standing human behavior. Here I would encourage you to take a more active learning
approach—that is, if you want to get a sense of what psychology is all about, you have to
go and do psychology. We belong to an active and engaging discipline that is passionate
about all aspects of human behavior, and although we do share knowledge in various
forms of writing (journal articles, books, websites), interacting with peers and profession-
als in a conference setting can provide the energy and “juice” about the research enter-
prise. So I suggest that you go and do psychology: Work to become an active contributor to
our understanding of human behavior as well as a consumer of psychological knowledge.

My specialization is General psychology. I have certifications in the applied behavioral analysis, as well as forensic. I decided to get my PHD in general psychology because I knew I would be able to touch on every specialty which is good to me. General psychology is the study of mental behaviors and psychological functions. The whole idea of studying the behaviors of an individual is very interesting to me. I am so intrigued with General psychology because every since I took intro to psychology and I fell in love with the focus of getting into individuals minds and the way they think. My career path is to join the FBI and work as an agent in their Behavioral Analysis Unit. With this degree, it will open so many doors for me. I am into solving cases with a mixture of what caused that individual to do the act. I also enjoy profiling which is basically a person who records and analyzes someone's psychological and behavioral characteristics, so as to assess or predict their capabilities or to assist in identifying categories of people. Growing up it has always been a passion of mine to becoming an psychologist. I am just so proud of myself to be in this position, I am not quit finish there is still a lot of things I have to do before I can fully say I am a psychologists.
In Florida, where I live there are different requirements to become a psychologist. The state of Florida requires all licensed psychologists to have a doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited or approved school. It is of the utmost importance to create a plan for the educational path and licensing procedures that will be required of you in order to become a psychologist in the state of Florida. In order to work as a licensed psychologist in the state of Florida all candidates are required to have a doctoral degree, either a Ph.D. or a PsyD in psychology or a closely related field, this degree must be from an approved institution. After acquiring your doctorate degree in psychology or a closely related subject such as educational psychology, candidates are then required to complete 4,000 hours of supervised professional experience over two years. This experience must be conducted under the supervision of a licensed psychologist that the Florida Board of Psychology has approved. Once you have completed your doctoral degree and 4,000 hours of supervised experience you can then submit your application for licensure. The state of Florida requires all psychology licenses to be renewed every two years; to be eligible for renewal the license holder must complete a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education. The Florida Board of Psychology also enforces one further stipulation to renewing you license, which is that on every third renewal a psychologist must.
India is home to several prestigious institutions offering Psychology Honours programs. While specific college names are not mentioned here, some of the best colleges in India for Psychology Honours are known for their academic excellence and experienced faculty.
A forensic psychologist plays a valuable role in the criminal justice system, even more so at a crime scene. Though not dealing directly with bodies or physical evidence, a forensic psychology practitioner tries to identify a perpetrator using psychological principles and tools.
Online Therapy - Go Online With A Counseling PsychologistHelping Psychology
Online therapy, or e-therapy, is a new tool in mental health treatment that, according to John M. Grohol, Psy.D., is basically “Internet-mediated technology to foster a helping relationship online.” Through online therapy, a counseling psychologist provides general support for people with relationship problems and other daily worries.
When you begin a new semester of psychology courses, it’s often best to start by being proactive. Here are 5 of the most important tips to help you succeed in getting off to a great start.
Biopsychology is the study of why the brain is the command center and how it influences behaviors, thoughts and feelings. This field of psychology has gained popularity in recent years, and much is being learned about the human mind.
A bachelor’s degree in psychology is a great stepping stone for applying for a psychology graduate program. Only those with a master’s or Doctorate degree can practice as counselors or psychologists in a professional capacity. If, however, entering a psychology graduate program isn’t your passion, you can still go on to apply for graduate programs in other areas as a psychology major. Or, you can stick to a more traditional path and earn an advanced psychology degree.
Meditation is a pathway to academic success, one that many college students know little to nothing about. With the application of meditation, students can not only focus their minds, but bring harmony to their bodies to keep them centered, content, and healthy.
