Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) provides an integrated evaluation of the cardiorespiratory system during exercise. It has several indications including undiagnosed exercise intolerance, assessment of exercise tolerance in known cardiac or pulmonary diseases, and preoperative evaluation. CPET evaluates various cardiovascular and respiratory responses to exercise including oxygen uptake, ventilatory threshold, and heart rate. It has clinical applications in assessing heart failure, dyspnea, and other cardiac and pulmonary conditions.
