Caraga Region is located in northeastern Mindanao, Philippines between latitudes 8°00' and 10°30' N and longitudes 125°15' and 126°30' E. The region borders Bohol Sea to the north, Davao Region to the south, and Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental to the west. It was created through Republic Act Number 7901 in 1995 and derives its name from the Visayan word "Kalagan" meaning the land of the brave and fierce people. Important archaeological sites in Caraga include the National Museum in Butuan City housing artifacts from Butuan including parts of ancient Butuan boats, and the Golden Tara trading artifact indicating links to India.
