Problem Statement?
How many people die in car accidents each year?
if you imagine the answer of the previous question will be in term of thousands or hundreds of
thousands , so you are wrong. Every year, roughly 1.3 million people die in car accidents worldwide
– an average of 3,287 deaths per day. So we need to define a system which can be helpful to
improve the safety of the car and to Save some people's lives.
Problem Statement?
The Objective
We want to make the driver aware of all vehicles and their states in his range. Most of accidents
occur due to the ignorance of the driver about other vehicles in his range. We will work on
specific three cases:
1- Emergency Electronic Brake Lights (EEBL)
2- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
3- Vehicle Sinking Appeal (VSA)
Our Idea...
Case 1: Emergency Electronic Brake Lights (EEBL)
EEBL can notify the driver of a hard breaking vehicle in the path ahead. if there are three vehicles are traveling in the
same lane, you are driving the last vehicle you can’t see the first vehicle because it’s being blocked by the vehicle
directly in front of you. Unexpectedly the first vehicle slams on its brakes because of v2v communication, your
vehicle is able to provide a warning of the hard braking vehicle ahead well before you see brake lights from the
vehicle directly, this warning will enable you to drive safely and avoid a potential crash.

Case 2: Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
FCW is intended to warn the driver of a potential rear-end crash with a stopped or slower moving vehicle ahead. You are driving and
ahead in your lane is a slower moving vehicle. The vehicle ahead is wirelessly sending its information allowing your vehicle to provide a
warning if you are approaching too quickly and are in a potential rear-end crashsituation, this will enable you to slow to a safe speed
and distance behind the slower moving vehicle . Another situation if vehicle ahead of you is stopped in your lane, the vehicle directly in
front of you makes a late lane change around the stopped vehicle. Also you can’t see the stopped vehicle, because of v2v
communication your vehicle is aware of the stopped vehicle and the warning will save you.

Case 3: Vehicle Sinking Appeal (VSA)
This case isn’t related to v2v communication but we found this an urgent problem without solutions till now. We wish to get a solution to
save people after sinking of vehicle. We thought to add some sensorsto vehicle to measure the level of water inside the vehicle and
when the vehicle is sinking already, vehicle will send a request with its location to the emergency department. But this appeal won’t be
the whole solution, we thought to get a way to block and insulate the vehicle from the water by adding an insulation material in the
holes to block the water to get into the vehicle. We need also to add an oxygen pumps in the vehicle to enable people inside the vehicle
to breathe well (we can use the concept of air bags here).

Technical Approach
We will depend on V2V communication which will make the vehicle can
communicate with one another.
It consists of a wireless protocol similar to Wi-Fi called Dedicated Short
Range Communications (DSRC). When DSRC is combined with GPS
technology, the result is V2V communication system that provides a 360
degree view of similarly equipped vehicles within communication range.
Technical Approach
Transmitted messagescommon to all vehicles include each vehicle’s:
• Current GPS position
• Speed and Acceleration
• Heading
• Transmission State
• Brake Status
• Steering Wheel Angle
• Path History and Path Prediction
Technical Approach
Our idea is to use V2Vcommunication to make each vehicle aware of other vehicles in the range of 300 meters, so
many of the accidents can be avoided. And with information like GPS position, speed and acceleration which can be
provided, we can achieve the objectives which were explained.
Expected Deliverables
We can divide the deliverables in two parts, the first is related to
cases 1 and 2 and the second one is related to case3. for the
first part we need to make the warning for the driver and not
controlling the vehicle itself. So the warning can be as shown in
the figure. For the second part, the output can be message to
the emergency with the location of the vehicle.
Conclusion
This is just an idea suggested with a non-complete picture. And based on your leading reputation on Automotive
Embedded Systems globally, we are here to consult you and discussif the proposal is applicable technically wise
and manageable for Undergraduate Level or if it needs any reducing or correction and guidance from you about the
workload and the concept.

  • 3. Problem Statement? How many people die in car accidents each year? if you imagine the answer of the previous question will be in term of thousands or hundreds of thousands , so you are wrong. Every year, roughly 1.3 million people die in car accidents worldwide – an average of 3,287 deaths per day. So we need to define a system which can be helpful to improve the safety of the car and to Save some people's lives.
  • 5. The Objective We want to make the driver aware of all vehicles and their states in his range. Most of accidents occur due to the ignorance of the driver about other vehicles in his range. We will work on specific three cases: 1- Emergency Electronic Brake Lights (EEBL) 2- Forward Collision Warning (FCW) 3- Vehicle Sinking Appeal (VSA)
  • 7. Case 1: Emergency Electronic Brake Lights (EEBL) EEBL can notify the driver of a hard breaking vehicle in the path ahead. if there are three vehicles are traveling in the same lane, you are driving the last vehicle you can’t see the first vehicle because it’s being blocked by the vehicle directly in front of you. Unexpectedly the first vehicle slams on its brakes because of v2v communication, your vehicle is able to provide a warning of the hard braking vehicle ahead well before you see brake lights from the vehicle directly, this warning will enable you to drive safely and avoid a potential crash.   • 9. Case 2: Forward Collision Warning (FCW) FCW is intended to warn the driver of a potential rear-end crash with a stopped or slower moving vehicle ahead. You are driving and ahead in your lane is a slower moving vehicle. The vehicle ahead is wirelessly sending its information allowing your vehicle to provide a warning if you are approaching too quickly and are in a potential rear-end crashsituation, this will enable you to slow to a safe speed and distance behind the slower moving vehicle . Another situation if vehicle ahead of you is stopped in your lane, the vehicle directly in front of you makes a late lane change around the stopped vehicle. Also you can’t see the stopped vehicle, because of v2v communication your vehicle is aware of the stopped vehicle and the warning will save you. Idea

  • 11. Case 3: Vehicle Sinking Appeal (VSA) This case isn’t related to v2v communication but we found this an urgent problem without solutions till now. We wish to get a solution to save people after sinking of vehicle. We thought to add some sensorsto vehicle to measure the level of water inside the vehicle and when the vehicle is sinking already, vehicle will send a request with its location to the emergency department. But this appeal won’t be the whole solution, we thought to get a way to block and insulate the vehicle from the water by adding an insulation material in the holes to block the water to get into the vehicle. We need also to add an oxygen pumps in the vehicle to enable people inside the vehicle to breathe well (we can use the concept of air bags here). Idea
  • 12. Technical Approach We will depend on V2V communication which will make the vehicle can communicate with one another. It consists of a wireless protocol similar to Wi-Fi called Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC). When DSRC is combined with GPS technology, the result is V2V communication system that provides a 360 degree view of similarly equipped vehicles within communication range.
  • 13. Technical Approach Transmitted messagescommon to all vehicles include each vehicle’s: • Current GPS position • Speed and Acceleration • Heading • Transmission State • Brake Status • Steering Wheel Angle • Path History and Path Prediction
  • 14. Technical Approach Our idea is to use V2Vcommunication to make each vehicle aware of other vehicles in the range of 300 meters, so many of the accidents can be avoided. And with information like GPS position, speed and acceleration which can be provided, we can achieve the objectives which were explained.
  • 15. Expected Deliverables We can divide the deliverables in two parts, the first is related to cases 1 and 2 and the second one is related to case3. for the first part we need to make the warning for the driver and not controlling the vehicle itself. So the warning can be as shown in the figure. For the second part, the output can be message to the emergency with the location of the vehicle.
  • 16. Conclusion This is just an idea suggested with a non-complete picture.
