Hamburger Essay
Big Tasty Hamburger At times when we are in a hurry, hamburgers are one of the easiest foods to
eat while on the go. No matter what time it is whether its breakfast, lunch, or dinner we grab a
hamburger and might throw in some fries and a soda to go with it. Many restaurants are known to
make their hamburgers in a specific way. Preparation differs from restaurant to restaurant. But what
really makes a hamburgertaste so delicious? Depending where you go they will taste different but
they are all structured the same. It consists of a bun, a ground meat pattyand often ingredients such
as cheese, onion slices, lettuce and other condiments.
I occasionally like to buy juicy burgers that look and taste great. When your food is served it ...

Third but not least, the conclusion provides an almost mirror image of the introduction,
wrapping up the arguments with a restatement of the thesis of your essay. I call this the bottom
burger bun or in other words the conclusion. Holding it all together is the bottom bun of the
hamburger or the conclusion to sum up all the key points of interest. The conclusion sentence
should be interesting by giving it a call to action. As you can see a hamburger is easy to make
like writing is not as hard as you think. Writing is very simple to do as preparing a hamburger.
Although, most of the time hamburgers are dry and taste like cardboard. They are the ones that
tend to not be juicy or appealing to the eye. Believe it or not, essays are similar to dry burgers.
Writing essays can lack clear thoughts, explanations, and opinions as well as vague arguments.
As a result an essay that is boring and not interesting end up receiving a poor grade. However, a
hamburger can be re made to taste better like an essay can be revised or edited.
In writing, as in other kinds of production, the process directly affects the quality of the product. If
we prepare a meal quickly, assembling poor ingredients without much thought or attention, we aren
t likely to end up with a tasty dish. The best chefs, like the best writers, refine their methods and
think carefully about what they are doing, with close attention to detail to

Double Indemnity In The Film Noir Movie
Film noir is a classic film style. Noir style films often use suspense, seduction, and drama to
highlight a cynical viewpoint of life. Double Indemnity uses all of these key points to create a
true noir classic. Billy Wilder s direction of the film helped to cement this film as a classic of
black and white films. Wilder s decision and storyline stayed true, for the most part, to the original
source novel, while also adding and improving key details. Fred MacMurrays and Barbara
Stanwyck s acting choices and on screen chemistry help to add depth to the storyline without
overshadowing each other. Along with the main actors, the background and minor characters work
well to fill in the background of the film. Double Indemnityfollows the insurance salesman Walter
Neff as he first meets the temptress Phyllis Dietrichson. The movie starts with an injured Neff who
begins to tell his story, which starts when he meets Phyllis. Neff attempts to talk to Dietrichson
about buying new insurance, but as they talk, Neff begins to suspect that Dietrichson is after
something far more dangerous than insurance, murder. Neff quickly leaves Dietrichson despite his
attraction to her. Neff returns to his apartment, only to have Dietrichson later show up and kiss him
drawing him to her side. After this Dietrichson and Neff begin to plan her husband s murder. Neff
and Dietrichson quickly accomplish this through an elaborate insurance scam that involves a train,
disguises, and a broken leg. Unable

Clinical Microsystem Assessment
Clinical Microsystem Assessment
A clinical microsystem is a small, interdependent group of people who work together regularly to
provide care for specific groups of patients (Institute for Healthcare Improvement, p.1). It is the goal
of this paper to discuss the findings of the Johnson Clinical Microsystem Assessment Tool to the
microsystem where I am employed on call, the Multnomah County Health Department (MCHD),
HIV Health Service Center (HSC), a primary medical home for patients with HIV/AIDS.
Additionally, I will address each of the 5 P s of the microsystem; purpose, patients, professionals,
procedures and patterns that will then inform a practice change for the clinic.

Holistic Core Values Of Holistic Nursing
Holistic Core Values Holistic nursing care involves treating the patient mind and body, as well as
providing comfort through prayer. The overall ideal goal of providing holistic care is treating the
patient as a whole. There are certain standards and guideline designed by the American Holistic
Nursing Association in which establish the core values of holistic nursing (Frisch, 2001, p. 1). This
paper will discuss the core value number three: holistic communication, therapeutic environment
and cultural diversity. Second, an interview was conducted with two co workers Ms. C.D. and Ms.
N.S. and Mrs. T.R., a family member concerning the selected core value. Their opinion concerning
the selected core value will be further discussed in this paper. Third, the concept of healing and cure
will be discussed, including the difference between the two terms. Fourth, a clinical experience will
be discussed in there was no cure but healing demonstrated within the patient. Finally, there will be
details of the healing process identified by the patient, family and nurse. The purpose of this paper
is to discuss significance of core value number three: holistic communication, therapeutic

I Was The Best Fellow
I LIVED on very good terms, not only with the master and the old ostler, but with all the
domestics and hangers on at the inn; waiters, chambermaids, cooks, and scullions, not forgetting
the boots , of which there were three. As for the postillions, I was sworn brother with them all,
and some of them went so far as to swear that I was the best fellow in the world; for which high
opinion entertained by them of me, I believe I was principally indebted to the good account their
comrade gave of me, whom I had so hospitably received in the dingle. I repeat that I lived on good

According to the Humane Society of the United States, there is a growing problem with people in
the United States not properly using animal welfare. Animal rights activists believe that animals
were not put here for human use and should be able to live their lives free of human intervention.
Animal welfare is better for all animals and for humanbenefit while using the animals. The
American Veterinary Medical Association says that, Animal welfare

the treatment that an animal receives is covered by other terms such as animal care, animal

Perception of the Chinese People
Introduction
I Choose China because I am part Chinese and wanted to understand their culture a lot better. I
believe if I learn more about the Chinese culture I will be able to understand their communication
and tendencies better. Also to be honest I am just as guilty as anyone in not knowing the
differences between Japanese and Chinese culture, so on a side note I also hope to clear up a few
misunderstandings. At the very least you will know some information about the Chinese culture
solving part of the problem of the perception on Chinese people.
Mandarin is China s official language.
Chinese Communication patterns can be easily misunderstood by people sometimes leading to
conflict. The Chinese have a reputation for impassiveness. This is mainly because people of
different cultures misinterpret Chinese body language and gestures.
With 1.3 billion people, the world s second largest economy, and the fastest economic growth
among industrialized nations, China is an undisputed economic powerhouse, so it would not be a
bad idea to become more familiarized with their communication patterns in their business, education
, and healthcare.
Business
China is the world s second largest economy. Many U.S companies are multinational already, and
many more expect China to be a growing source of their revenue. Learning proper etiquette is a
must before conducting business in China.
When conducting business its never a good idea to be late but especially when meeting with Chinese

Influence Of Enlightenment On The American Revolution
The ideas of the Enlightenment influenced the American Revolution and the formation of the
American Government in several different ways. The Enlightenment period initiated several new
ideas about freedoms and rights. These ideas were discussed in meetings called salons in France,
where they discussed new ideas. There were many influential philosophers from the enlightenment
periods, Thomas Hobbes, Montesquieu, Adam Smith, Voltaire, John Locke, and Rousseau. Thomas
Hobbes believed that all people were naturally selfish and needed a strong government like an
absolute monarchy to remain in control. Montesquieu supported the separation of powers and a
system of checks and balances in government. Adam Smith believed that governments... Show more

It was our fight to become independent and free. The Enlightenment thinker Adam Smith believed
that the government should not interfere with a free market economy. Many of the colonists
believed the same, so they dressed up as Native Americans and dumped imported tea from a ship
into the Boston Harbour to protest against the Tea Act. The Tea Act heavily impacted the colonists
taxes, which is what the colonists were fighting over. This shows that the Enlightenment influenced
the American Revolution because the Enlightenment thinker Adam Smith caused the colonists to
revolt against Britain s oppression. Another important Enlightenment thinker, John Locke, also
inspired the colonists to revolt because he believed that people were able to revolt when their
government was not protecting the natural rights of the people. Since the colonists didn t like what
was happening to the controlling government, they revolted because of John Locke. Finally,
Voltaire believed in freedom of speech and expression, meaning that he thought anyone could
protest or say what they believed. The colonists were very impacted by this belief, as it inspired
them to speak out against the king and revolt. All in all, the American colonists were heavily
influenced by the Enlightenment thinkers because they took the new ideas and applied them,
causing them to revolt against Britain to gain independence, starting the American

Innocence In Blackberry Winter By Robert Penn Warren
Country life is often romanticized as spotless innocence. As described, The city, no matter how
small, is corrupt and unrepentant, while the sun shines brighter in the country, making people more
wholesome (Lori Lansens). The city is where adventure and opportunity are readily available;
innocence is tossed aside in favor of experience. But, the country is known for its presumed ability
to help people regain their innocence to cleanse them of their taint. While it is true that the country
offers quieter, simpler living as compared to city/suburbliving, the country is not sinless. Robert
Penn Warren s Blackberry Winter is undeniable evidence of the dark side of country living. The
whimsical title and warm opening paragraph appear as a cheery country aesthetic. But as the story
continues, the illusion dissipates... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Truthfully, the tale is of a blissfully ignorant Tennessee farm boy s sudden and painfully realistic
transit from under the veil of childhood innocence into the disenchanting reality of life.
When the story begins, Seth, in the midst of a secure, simple life, is already transitioning away
from his naivety. Small and seemingly insignificant things like not being able to go barefoot in
summer, the appearance of a stranger, and experiencing his first Blackberry Winter confuse Seth.
Before this day, life was simple and methodical; his understanding of the world around him was
childlike: When you are nine, you know that there are things which you don t know, but you know
that when you know something you know it. You know how a thing has been and... you can go
barefoot in June. He never thought someone would try to stop you from going barefoot in June, no

High School Band Leadership
In the two years I ve spent in high school band, I ve learned that the best leaders are the ones who
do whatever needed to help the whole band succeed. Whether that be arriving at 6 in the morning
to help your section with marching and music, or just spending time with them at football games
and section parties. A great leader is someone who knows not only their own strengths and
weaknesses, but the organization s as well. The best leaders can also fully differentiate when it is
time to work and when it is time to have fun. I have been in many clubs and organizations where
the leaders in charge led through fear and not through respect, and it is the individuals such as
those who have inspired me to become a leader myself. There is a major

Postmodern Deconstructionism In Alice Walker s Everyday Use
No matter what age or generation, people live in a world filled with opposition and conflict.
Though this sounds harsh and unforgiving, this description is completely and utterly accurate. In
society, people run into all sorts of oppositions without realizing it at all. For example, a person
could walk into a darkened room and flip on the light without stopping to ponder the conflict
between light and dark . These examples in our daily lives drones on and on from the difference
between hot and cold water to the difference between your phone when it is on or off. Though these
types of oppositions seem mundane to the average person, to a deconstructionist these distinct
concepts are imperative in deconstructing a text. When people describe deconstructing a text, they
are referring to the postmodern deconstructionism which focuses mainly on these oppositions and
the type of relationship they share. When referring to these oppositions, a deconstructionist uses
the word binary which can be found in literature of all types and through all sorts of literary
interpretations. Alice Walker s Everyday Use is no exception to this concept with its story focusing
on lifestyle and heritage differences displayed between the main characters. Though one can
interpret Everyday Use as a story presenting the two binary aspects of a traditional, heritage based,
yet impoverished lifestyle and an affluent, modern, yet forward thinking lifestyle as completely
opposing concepts, one can

Use Of Speech By The Federal Government
The tests used by the federal government used to determine if certain types of speech can be
censored or banned are as follows. The clear and present danger test which is a test where the
government can restrict speech if there is evidence that the speech will cause a clear and
present dangerous condition to the public(Bardes Shelley, 2014, p.122). Direct incitement test
protects the advocacy of illegal action under the First Amendment unless imminent action is
likely to happen. For Instance, it can apply to the Supreme Court case Brandenburg v. Ohio
when a KKK leader s conviction was overturned (Bardes Shelley, 2014, p.123). Bad Tendency
test is when speech has a tendency to induce to induce illegal behavior (Notes). As defined in the
Gitlow case when a left wing group was convicted of publishing a pamphlet that urged a violent
overthrow of U.S. government (Bardes Shelley, 2014, p.123). The Test Defamation of character,
or Libel is ruining an individual s good name in which the law bans individuals from making false,
defamatory statements about others this includes slander (Bardes Shelley, 2014, p.124). I
personally believe the press, entertainers and public have been, and are within the right of the First
Amendment right, freedom of speech. Some of the information you hear in the media is not
always beneficial for example, some new channels or people side with groups that provide only
what they want you to hear, and not always the full story. Sometimes media is regulated,

Consequences Of Urbanization During The Progressive Era
Many industries like the railroad, steel, and oil industries transformed American society in the early
20th century. The railroad industries was one of the most important since thanks to it, the costs of
products decreased and the population increased because food was available in a large variety and
quantity. Along with the increase of these industry, also came the rise of urbanization. This is called
industrialized or the rize of many industries. Industrialization impacted urbanization by crating
economic growth and job opportunities that drew people into cities included european immigrants.
Although everything was not quite bright. Some of the consequences of urbanization were poor
housing conditions, sanitation problems, disease, and overcrowding. Three issues that Americans
addressed in the Progressive Era were women suffrage, public health reform, and child labor.
Reformers attempted to solve these problems by forming organizations and raising government
awareness. During the Progressive Era, American women were fighting for suffrage or the right
to vote. Women were viewed as supporters of men and had to be responsible for managing the
homelife. While middle class women lived in cities as clerks, teachers, and nurses, lower class
women had to work either on farms or in factories. Document B suggests that prohibiting women to
vote is forcing them to work under hard conditions. The smaller wage and harder conditions
imposed on the women worker are due to the lack of

The Chesapeake Bay
Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains
roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states,
including all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bay is what is known as a watershed, an area
that contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls
within the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Baywill subsequently travel through many
streams and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuarysystem in the United States.
The Estuary System
An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward
and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An
estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the
best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique
in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans
have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity
lies it the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water. Ocean
and freshwater are measured largely based on salinity, or the level of parts of salt per thousand.
Ocean water usually has around 35 parts per thousands of salt water, while freshwater

How Did Stalin Gain Power
Conversely, Stain s tendency to grasp opportunities and advance in situations was pivotal in
explaining his rise to power by 1929. Historian S, Phillips argues that Stalin was undoubtedly
skillful in using the circumstances that presented themselves in 1924 and opportunities that arose
thereafter to overcome his opponents in the party . This view supports the idea that Stalin used his
political shrewdness and skills to outwit his colleagues for the battle for power and positioned
himself in situations that he could benefit from and gain advantages which is an alternative factor
to the Party machine argument as the main reason for Stalin s dominance of power. It is correct to

Essentially, this shows Stalin used his political skills to manipulate the situation to his advantage
suggesting that he was particularly cunning and wise. An example of this that supports the view
of S. Phillips was displayed at Lenin s funeral, where Stalin was able to strengthen his own
position by establishing his character as Lenin s most faithful disciple . Stalin s use of the funeral
to align himself to the Lenin legacy shows an example of his potential opportunism within the
party, as claimed by Tucker who stated that Stalin was not the only rival for power using Lenin s
legacy to further his career the others were as well, but Stalin was better at it . This view supports
the argument of Phillips, suggesting that Stalin s personal attributes and use of opportunism
facilitated the consolidation of power over his rivals. His use of the oration to present himself as
chief mourner highlighted the necessity to continue the works of Lenin by applying his essential
ideas to Communist

The Short Story Everyday Uses By Alice Walker
In the short story, Everyday Uses by Alice Walker, is about two daughters, one spoiled and one
thankful. The eldest daughter changes herself from her family, and thinks possessions matter
most. She s very outgoing and doesn t care about anyone but herself, and shows in the story how
this new man changed her. The younger and other sister, Maggie is more caring, as she is
willing to give up something just because her sister wanted it. She doesn t change and doesn t let
people change her like her older sister. I think this story shows how people are affected by their
surroundings. Some people want things but don t appreciate it until someone else does. This story

Is Society Becoming too Dependent on Computers Essay
The computer has been one of man s most influential inventions, paving the way for greater
achievements with time. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling
everyday tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast
amounts of information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now
ask ourselves, is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or
rather replacing it and hindering our progress? Society has now become dependant on computers.
How does this machineaffect our youth and learning process? We have invented a machine with a

Many supporters from this group also point out that the computer can be controlled and that
computers are only as smart as we allow them to be, by themselves computers are quite dependant

they aid us. They believe we have invented a machine with a greater and faster learning capacity
and soon there may be no need for us humans. Our sense of creativity and ingenuity is neither
needed nor utilized as we can easily use a computer application to achieve those once rare results
by that of human ingenuity. The internet through the use of the computer is now a medium for a
number of services, such as online chatting, social sites, and dating. Interactions between humans
have suffered with the use of these services. Those once memorable face to face moments have
been replaced by a few clicks of the keyboard and mouse. There are individuals who cannot
survive without the computer and in its absence suffer from depression and anxiety. In factories
around the world, there are computers doing the jobs of once hard working men and women. This
not only contributes to the unemployment rate, but also puts us in a position where we must
question the need for humans in the work place. Basic daily tasks are now unnecessarily achieved
by the computer and our children are no longer driven to improve on their mental and

Legalized Drinking
Legally Drinking In the United States Explaining the topic to any adult, they mainly all have the
same idea; teenagers just want to party, they do not act their age, but sometimes that is not
always the case. Once a male teenager turns eighteen, what does he have to sign up for by law?
The draft. Teenagers are always looked down upon once they become adults, as if older adults
think they are not ready for what is to come, but once they make a mistake against the law, the first
thing to happens is they get tried as an adult. In all of these situations, the same thing is
reoccurring; any teenager that turns eighteen is considered an adult, but if they were to drink, like

Many young adults do not find that fair. What the law is saying is any young adult can be tried
as an adult but are not allowed to drink and adult beverage. To me, it does not sound fair to do; if
anyone is considered an adult by law, than by law they should be allowed to do adult things. By
law, drinking alcohol underage, or having possession of alcohol, can be a misdemeanor punishable
up to a year in jail, and a $4,000 fine. Personally, this just does not seem fair. Other examples of
misdemeanors are: simple assaults, disorderly conduct, domestic violence, indecent exposure,
prostitution, theft, trespassing, and vandalism. So, basically, domestic violence and underage
drinking could end up having the same punishment. Publically beating someone up and drinking at
someone s house underage does not seem like they fit in the same category; both are punishable up
to a year with a pretty hefty fine. Also, getting caught drinking and driving has the same punishment
as just drinking underage. To me, this almost encourages drunk driving because it has the same
punishment, so, why

Example Of Guerrilla Marketing
According to Baltes and Leibing in their 2008 journal Guerrilla marketing for information services ,
the term Guerrilla Marketing describes unconventional marketing strategies with which to achieve
significant effects with a fraction of the budget of traditional marketing campaigns .
It is essentially a low cost advertising strategy employed by business which aims to attract a lot of
attention from the public.
The term Guerrilla Marketing was first used by the author Jay Conrad in 1984 in his book

both shocking and effective tactics in war such as ambushes and raids. Much like Guerrilla

Immigration Policies Of The 1920s
The 1890s to the 1920s was the first time that the federal government was taking a real stand and
control over immigration policies. It also saw the two greatest waves of immigration in the country
s history. War, poverty, political turmoil, social upheaval, food shortages, lack of available jobs and
more prompted people from foreign countries to move to the United Statesbecause it was the land
of dreams and prosperity. After the depression of the 1890s immigrationjumped from 3.5 million to
9 million in a ten year period. By 1900, New York City had as many Irish residents as Dublin and
more Italians than any city outside Rome and more Poles than any city except Warsaw. It had more
Jews than any other city in the world, as well as large amount of Slavs, Lithuanians, Chinese, and
Scandinavians (Collier). The government began to limit these new immigrants. From 1882 until
1943 most Chinese immigrants were barred from entering the United States under the Chinese
Exclusion Act, the nation s first law to ban immigration by race or nationality. In 1892, Ellis Island

Super Normal Case Study
2.3 Super Normal
Being a concept to celebrate sustainability in durable design, Super Normal is a concept
developed by furniture designer Jasper Morrison and product designer Naoto Fukasawa. It
refers to timeless products that serve people without drawing attention to themselves (Fukasawa
Morrison 2012). Calling for a re realization of unobtrusive designs in daily life, Super Normal
encourages designers to re acknowledge the parts people naturally think are good in design.
Generally, designers or even people who buy designs do not advocate normal as a design concept,
they expect something special or novel to catch eyes. However, the products that make a
difference in daily life are invisible (Norman, 2013, p.13). Design is a ... Show more content on

Here, the term beauty involves both forms, shapes and the relationships between people and the
circumstances (Fukasawa Morrison, 2012, p.110). Not that there is anything wrong with beauty in
Super Normal. On the contrary, the beauty of a product can elicit positive emotions that open up
the cognitive system and inspires people to find out creative solutions easily (Norman, 2002). Here
is a clear cut case (Pic.10) that illustrates the aesthetic differences between Arial and Helvetica.
They both are sans serif typefaces that are universally embraced by different applications. At first
glance, they seem extremely similar. But if designers examine the characters in each type closely,
the differences become apparent. Mark Simonson[9], an American graphic designer, produced an
analysis of these two types, showing how much more refined design of Helvetica than that of Arial
(Simonson, 2001). The primary difference between the two is the treatments of their endings.
While Helvetica is vertically cut, Arial is slightly angled. For instance, the tail of the a is gently
curved in Helvetica, but not in Arial. Similarly, the top of the t and the ends of the strokes in the C
and S are perfectly horizontal in the former but slightly angled in the latter. The letterforms of
Helvetica demonstrate exactly how thoughtfully designed they are. The typeface is uniform and
structurally sound by adhering to a guide of

After comparing the two it is companies, I would recommend that Coca Cola is the better pick as
far as who to invest in if given the opportunity to invest in one or the other. Through analyzing the
many ratios and utilizing the components to accurately rationalize the status of the financial
stability of the two companies Coca Cola has proved to have a higher financial accountability.
There are many factors that brought me to this conclusion. Just look at the statements you can see
that Pepsi Co. has more liabilities than Coca Cola and that would generally be the case since Pepsi
Co. has monies invested in other products and Cola does not have any other involvements in other
products.

Manifest Destiny and Race
Laurence Mandin Professor Charles Turner M.A. J.D. History 18 25 March 2011 Midterm
Question #1 part 2: What impact did the English view of race have on American society? (Worth
50 points) note: I felt it was more logical for my purposes to place part 2 first. The English view
of race developed directly from their perceptions of themselves, from the ideas of their own racial
origins, their own ethnocentricity. This perception became a concept that had its roots in 16th and
17th Century England. It involved their ancestry to the peoples of England prior to the Norman
Conquest of 1066, and further back to the Nordic and Germanic peoples of ancient, continental
Europe. It didn t start here; their Caucasian ancestry was believed to have... Show more content on

This vanguard of chosen people would see their noble sentiments of self government tainted by
a legacy of racial superiority that would contribute to the near extinction of Native Americans,
the brutal subjugation of African peoples, and a history of racial bigotry and strife. These
entrenched racial attitudes would reach a pinnacle in the first half of 19th Century America
(Horsman intro), culminating in the Civil War of 1861: one of the bloodiest wars in world
history it left 600,000 Americans dead, white and black. That catastrophic conflict ended 150
years ago and we still have not seen the end of the terrible manifestation of Anglo American
racism. Midterm Question #1 part 1: Race and ethnicity have played major roles in American
social history. How do these constructs relate to an explanation of what it means to be an
American? The description of Africa as the dark mysterious continent is a description that can also
be applied to her continental sisters sharing similar latitudes in the Western Hemisphere, the areas

For a long time, dyslexia has been causing many humans, especially children, to have learning
difficulties. The World Federation of Neurologists define dyslexia as, a disorder in children who,
despite conventional classroom experience, fail to attain the language skills of reading, writing, and
spelling commensurate with their intellectual abilities ( Dyslexia, 2013). Sometimes the letter m
might look like w, and the number 3 might look like 8; dyslexia basically makes it harder for
people to improve their language abilities. This is the behavior I wish to change because of the

Students studying at Yale University have discovered that defects in a gene, DCDC2, are related
to problems in reading skills. The DCDC2 gene (when it is not supposed to) goes into contact
with KIAA0319, which is known as a dyslexic gene ( What is Dyslexia? 2013). None of these
hypotheses have been proven yet. Anyway, dyslexics can have difficulties understanding every time
they begin to read. The number of times dyslexia occurs or the time of the day it occurs cannot be
told; whenever those people are reading, the language complications can be seen. Two main theories
have been present regarding the reasons for why this behavior occurs, which are the cerebellar
theory and the magnocellular theory. We have proof that dyslexic people cannot process visual
concepts (which makes it harder for them to read or write). The magnocellular theory states that
this occurs because there is something wrong with the magnocellular pathways. Magnocellular
pathways are part of the central nervous system, and allow humans to process visual details from
their surroundings. Scientists believe that with these pathways not working, humans obtain
dyslexia and are not able to remember the presented information. On the other hand, the cerebellar
theory says that people who have problems in the cerebellum might become dyslexic. The
cerebellum is basically responsible for human motor control and language. Dysfunctions in the
cerebellum can cause

when the teacher plans out goals for the classroom based on the students prior knowledge and
newfound information (Hammond amp; Gibbons 2005, pg 12). This stage is an important stage as
students are working together and developing their knowledge together. This is also known as ZOP

is the student levels level of understanding and where their potential of understanding can be
through times of social interaction and the task being set. So in context of joint construction stage
when students work together and with the teacher scaffolding their writing they are building upon
their own knowledge and knowledge they have learnt from the field to contribute to the topic
(Kozulin 2003). This is also influenced in the other stages of the learning cycle. Another strategy in
scaffolding is interactional scaffolding where the teacher can prompt students to think, which then
leads to them working together in building the field and contributing effectively during joint

institutions. The project took many seasons and the teamwork of many top scientists from many
top universities and research organizations. The data recovered from the thousands of meters of
drilled ice contained the answers to many questions pertaining to the climate of now and the way
the world climate once was. The drillwas positioned at the very top of a glacier in a spot that was

project took place in the early 1990 s and was completed by the 2000 s, but the data collected will

Social structure is the way society is organized into predictable relationships. There are five

having a status to the amount of influence, wealth and fame. But sociologists use the term status
to refer to any of the full range of socially defined positions within a large group or society, from
the lowest to the highest. Examples of this are being a son or daughter, dental technician or the

Impacts of Climate Change on Australia Alps’ Ski Industry
The changing nature of snow cover as a result of alpine climate change is a modern phenomenon
that climate scientists are beginning to understand. Declining snow depth and duration have serious
implications for Australia s ski industry, in particular the longevity of the industry. This essay
discusses the impacts of alpine climate change on snowcover, adaption strategies to sustain the
industry s economy as well as the unsustainable nature of snowmaking as a long term solution.
Limitations on water and energy resource make snowmaking problematic as a substitute for natural
snow. The essay highlights the unsustainability of snowmaking as a short term solution, and raises
concerns of the longevity of the ski industry.
Currently, the Australian ski industry comprises of ten operational ski resorts (Figure 1) with
0.15% of the continent (Green and Pickering 2009, p. 271) regularly receiving snow due to the low
attitude of mountains. Consequently, decline in snow cover on top of limited snow availability
pose significant difficulties to the longevity of the ski industry.

How Did Humanism Influence Titian Art
How humanism changed artists paintings: An analysis of Titian s work during the 16th century
Ashmini Shiwbalak
The High Renaissance was a period of Italian painting that had the qualities of harmony and balance
with dignified, calm movement. The present study will focus on the development of early sixteen
century Venetian paintings by Titian during the High Renaissance. I ve chosen Gallery 607 at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art because it has the work of Titian, who was one of the greatest
Venetian artists, well known for his remarkable use of color and for his appealing renderings of the

Humanists were more curious about life in the present and focused on the achievements of the
individual. Hence, instead of religious issues, humanists examined worldly subjects that the
ancient Greeks and Romans had studied. This led the people of the Renaissance to become
interested in other areas of science, the natural world, biology and astronomy. Mazzocco goes on
to list some of the effects that humanism had on Renaissance paintings. Firstly, ordinary people
grew to be the same size as saints in paintings and saints began to look more like ordinary people.
Secondly, halos became fainter and eventually disappeared. Thirdly, the natural landscape began to
appear as a background in paintings, unlike the middle ages when artists represented figures of
heaven against a gold background. Fourthly, artists became famous for their work, and the human
body was depicted in anatomical accuracy, and frequently nude. The perfect human type had
proportions, muscular structure, oval face, triangular forehead, straight nose, and balance with the
weight on one hip. Lastly, the use of mathematical perspective to represent three dimensional space
in paintings was invented. Mazzocco s book stresses how humanism changed art and thus, artists
like Titian adopted these changes and used them in his paintings during that

get their Master s Degree. A Master s Degree only takes two to three years to get, people usually get
their Master s degree for extra practice and understanding. In total, if you want to go through
college to get your PhD, it will be a total of twelve to thriteen years. You don t even need to be by
any body of water. If you are completely sure you want to be a Marine Biologist, you should take
classes in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. You could also, in the summer, do jobs that involve
any type of animal. Even though most aren t paid, you could still get extra practice for taking care

Compare And Contrast Hamlet Movies
The 1990 film version of Hamlet by Franco Zeffireni and the 1996 version by Michael
Almereyda are very different form on another as they both put the play into perspective in
different lights with the time they are set in. The 1990 version is set in the 14th to 15th century
whereas the 1996 version is set in 1990 s to 2000 s. The time the films are set in makes a huge
difference to how different the versions are, as it changes almost everything about the film. From
the props that are used to the way the characters interact with each other. The two film versions of
Hamletare drastically different from one another all due to the time they are set in.
The biggest impact that the time of the film is the settings. The 1990 version is set in Denmark
whereas the 1996 is set in New York City. This changes many things about the movies. In the old
version there are castles, dungeons, and old looking architects. But in the modern day one there are
high rises, museums, apartments, offices, and swimming pools. The settings change how the
scenes go, for example in the modern version Ophelia dies by drowning in a water fountain where as

In the modern version there are guns, televisions, companies, 1990 s to 2000 s clothing, cars etc.
and in the old version there was swords, old fashioned clothing and furniture, and horses. The
props like the settings also affected how the scenes went down, for instance in the old version
Polonious was killed by a sword but in the modern version he was killed with a gun. Also the
type of transportation in the old version was horses but in the modern one they used cars. Also in
the modern version when there was news it would be on the news channel on the television or the
radio but in the old version the news had to get around by people talking. So the things that
happened in the scenes was based on the props they had and the props was based on the time it

Violent Video Games Cause Violence Essay
In 2008, a study called Grand Theft Childhood reported that about 60% of middle school boys
play violent video games while 40% do not. The study showed that boys who played violent video
games were more violent toward their colleagues compared to children who do not play any
violent video games. Moreover, studies showed that violent video games teach people that violence
is an acceptable strategy to solve problems. Thus, people who play violent video games have
lower belief in the use of nonviolent strategies. Violent video games also increase the rate of
aggression. In
2009, a study showed that after playing violent video games, people take up to four minutes to calm
and from five to ten minutes for the heart rate to return to the baseline. This time is ... Show more

All media types like movies and books may be labeled as violent due to containing violence.
Statistics showed that 37% of video games are violent, this percentage was the highest among all
types of media.
On the other hand, regarding supporting playing video games, statistics which was made between
1995 and 2008 showed that the rate of crimes committed by teenagers decreased by 71.9%.
Moreover, the arrest rate for all crimes declined 49.3%.
However, the popularity of violent video games around the world in this period increased by four
times. Thus, we can deduce that violent video games do not affect the crime rate as thought.
Furthermore, in 2004, the United States Secret Service made a review about aggression and
attacks in schools. The review showed that only oneeighths of bully student play violent video
games. On the other hand, the other students were interested in other violent types of media such
as violent movies and books. Indeed, violent video games provide a good replacement for
aggressive sports and playing. Thus, teenagers can express aggression through violent video games
without any physical harm. While playing a violent video game, video games

The Crucible And 12 Angry Men Analysis
The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) share many similarities between them,
particularly in the themes they convey throughout the texts. Justice and prejudice are the main
ideas presented in both texts, however the setting and outcomes differ significantly between the
two, providing a different insight in each text. Both authors, Miller and Lumet, present relevant
issues in the context of the 1950s that both texts were written. The similar social condition of
America that the two texts were published in is a likely factor as to why the two texts have
similar motifs presented throughout. Both The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) are
about justice. The two texts feature important scenes involving a trial where the fate of a
character s life rests in the hands of other people. However, the two texts have very different
final outcomes. In both texts, the main protagonists argue against the majority, despite the
backlash that they receive. Proctor speaks out in The Crucible after learning about the lies that
Abigail and her friends are telling that have caused the imprisonment of members of the town
and are even threatening their lives. Proctor takes a considerable risk by arguing against the
witchcraft, especially in the Puritan society where religion is how the town is governed. His
decision inevitably backfires on him and begins the series of events that lead to his execution. On
the other hand, Juror #8 in Twelve Angry Men goes against the majority as he sees the boys poor
upbringing, his less than fair state appointed defence attorney and the jury s almost immediate
unanimous decision to convict him, unjust and believes he deserves a better chance. Unlike
Proctor, Juror #8 speaking out against the other men results in justice for the accused who walks
away with his life. Justice in the two texts is represented considerably differently to each other. In
The Crucible it is evident that Abigail and her friends are in the wrong, condemning people to be
death by lying and accusing the town members of Witchcraft, and therefore Proctor attempting to
expose them for their dishonesty and bring justice to those who had been wrongfully accused,
which included his wife, was a brave and noble thing to

Premium Vs Regular Unleaded Gasoline
Are there benefits in using the premium versus regular unleaded gasoline?
If you were to ask a dozen different people if they believe there are benefits to premium versus
regular gasoline, you may hear varying answers. Many people will say premium is better but may
not be able to explain why. Truth is, many car owners follow the manual or just buy premium or
regular based on budgetary reasons because premium is more expensive than regular.
To make the right decision for your vehicle, let s break down the differences between premium and
regular unleaded gasoline.
Regular Unleaded Gas
The most commonly used type, regular unleaded gas (RUG) is readily available throughout the
world. As a byproduct of crude oil, RUG is highly flammable though

Cognitive Enhancement, Cheating, and Accomplishment
ABSTRACT. An ethics of enhancement should not rest on blanket judgments; it should ask us to
distinguish between the kinds of activities we want to enhance. Both students and academics have
turned to cognition enhancing drugs in significant numbers but is their enhancement a form of
cheating? The answer should hinge on whether the activity subject to enhancement is zero sum or
non zero sum, and whether one is more concerned with excellence in process or excellence in
outcome. Cognitive enhancement should be especially tolerated when the activities at stake are
non zero sum and when the importance of process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I argue that the use of CEDs is especially beneficial, and should be especially tolerated, when the
activities at stake are non zero sum and when the importance of process is outweighed by the
importance of outcome. Finally, I criticize the claim that CEDs unnaturally cheapen human
accomplishments; instead, I consider their use to be in line with well established conceptions of
collaborative authorship, which shift the locus of praise and blame from individual creators to the
ultimate products of their efforts.
CHARACTERISTICS AND USE OF COgNITION ENHANCINg DRUgS
Among the most common CEDs are modafinil, methylphenidate, and dextroamphetamine, which
are available under the brand names Provigil, [ 146 ]

Ritalin, and Adderall, respectively. Although originally developed to treat diagnosed conditions
ranging from narcolepsy to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, their off label use has been
reported to increase users recall, attention span, and ability to focus on cognitive tasks; in addition,
modafinil has been shown to increase wakefulness (Butcher 2003; greely et al. 2008). Some CEDs
also seem to enhance users executive function, or problem solving ability (Mehlman 2004, p. 484).

Short Story About Being Spanish
So far, I ve survived more than half my day. Well, I guess if you called being stared at, whispered
about and dead tired all day, survived. But honestly, I m used to it by now. I don t really care,
because I ve just been trying not to think about the date with Sam I have tomorrow night, he texted
me as I walked in schoolthis morning. That s all. A text.
I m sitting in 4th period Spanish with Kya, soundlessly writing down my notes. Today is one of
those days where you can t say anything in English at all. So, naturally, no one talks. Because why
would we want to participate in this?
Someone taps my shoulder gently, and I scribble my notes furiously so I can be done when I turn
around. I cautiously look up at the front of the room, and the ... Show more content on

I m gonna be frank here: we ve been taking spanish since the 8th grade, and I didn t think Kya
knew any other language than English. And even then... So it surprises me for a minute that she
can actually speak spanish, instead of making fun of the characters expressions in the book.
I blink, but nod my head as I get an extra pencil from my bag. I sit back up, and hand the pencil to
Kya. I don t know why she d need a pencil in the last 5 minutes of class. Kya takes the pencil, and I
look back down at my desk. I look up at the clock, and see we have a minute left. I pack up my
stuff in my binder, and stack it on my desk. I take the note, and unfold it, noticing Kya looking over
my shoulder at it.
Slut. We all know you d sleep with anyone, but the fact that you slept with MY boyfriend... proves
how whore ible you are. Don t bother denying it, I heard him tell Eli this morning. Kasey
I look up from the note. My face is beet red, and I don t even know if I m thinking. This definitely
isn t the first time rumors have been spread about me, but everytime they do it still hurts a little.
What makes me even more mad though, is that he spread this. He wants to have the whole school
talk about me, fine. It ll happen to him

  • 2. Hamburger Essay Big Tasty Hamburger At times when we are in a hurry, hamburgers are one of the easiest foods to eat while on the go. No matter what time it is whether its breakfast, lunch, or dinner we grab a hamburger and might throw in some fries and a soda to go with it. Many restaurants are known to make their hamburgers in a specific way. Preparation differs from restaurant to restaurant. But what really makes a hamburgertaste so delicious? Depending where you go they will taste different but they are all structured the same. It consists of a bun, a ground meat pattyand often ingredients such as cheese, onion slices, lettuce and other condiments. I occasionally like to buy juicy burgers that look and taste great. Third but not least, the conclusion provides an almost mirror image of the introduction, wrapping up the arguments with a restatement of the thesis of your essay. I call this the bottom burger bun or in other words the conclusion. Holding it all together is the bottom bun of the hamburger or the conclusion to sum up all the key points of interest. The conclusion sentence should be interesting by giving it a call to action. As you can see a hamburger is easy to make like writing is not as hard as you think. Writing is very simple to do as preparing a hamburger. Although, most of the time hamburgers are dry and taste like cardboard. They are the ones that tend to not be juicy or appealing to the eye. Believe it or not, essays are similar to dry burgers. Writing essays can lack clear thoughts, explanations, and opinions as well as vague arguments. As a result an essay that is boring and not interesting end up receiving a poor grade. However, a hamburger can be re made to taste better like an essay can be revised or edited. In writing, as in other kinds of production, the process directly affects the quality of the product. If we prepare a meal quickly, assembling poor ingredients without much thought or attention, we aren t likely to end up with a tasty dish. The best chefs, like the best writers, refine their methods and think carefully about what they are doing, with close attention to detail to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Double Indemnity In The Film Noir Movie Film noir is a classic film style. Noir style films often use suspense, seduction, and drama to highlight a cynical viewpoint of life. Double Indemnity uses all of these key points to create a true noir classic. Billy Wilder s direction of the film helped to cement this film as a classic of black and white films. Wilder s decision and storyline stayed true, for the most part, to the original source novel, while also adding and improving key details. Fred MacMurrays and Barbara Stanwyck s acting choices and on screen chemistry help to add depth to the storyline without overshadowing each other. Along with the main actors, the background and minor characters work well to fill in the background of the film. Double Indemnityfollows the insurance salesman Walter Neff as he first meets the temptress Phyllis Dietrichson. The movie starts with an injured Neff who begins to tell his story, which starts when he meets Phyllis. Neff attempts to talk to Dietrichson about buying new insurance, but as they talk, Neff begins to suspect that Dietrichson is after something far more dangerous than insurance, murder. Neff quickly leaves Dietrichson despite his attraction to her. Neff returns to his apartment, only to have Dietrichson later show up and kiss him drawing him to her side. After this Dietrichson and Neff begin to plan her husband s murder. Neff and Dietrichson quickly accomplish this through an elaborate insurance scam that involves a train, disguises, and a broken leg. Unable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe if I learn more about the Chinese culture I will be able to understand their communication and tendencies better. Also to be honest I am just as guilty as anyone in not knowing the differences between Japanese and Chinese culture, so on a side note I also hope to clear up a few misunderstandings. At the very least you will know some information about the Chinese culture solving part of the problem of the perception on Chinese people. Mandarin is China s official language. Chinese Communication patterns can be easily misunderstood by people sometimes leading to conflict. The Chinese have a reputation for impassiveness. This is mainly because people of different cultures misinterpret Chinese body language and gestures. With 1.3 billion people, the world s second largest economy, and the fastest economic growth among industrialized nations, China is an undisputed economic powerhouse, so it would not be a bad idea to become more familiarized with their communication patterns in their business, education , and healthcare. Business China is the world s second largest economy. Many U.S companies are multinational already, and many more expect China to be a growing source of their revenue. • 9. Influence Of Enlightenment On The American Revolution The ideas of the Enlightenment influenced the American Revolution and the formation of the American Government in several different ways. The Enlightenment period initiated several new ideas about freedoms and rights. These ideas were discussed in meetings called salons in France, where they discussed new ideas. There were many influential philosophers from the enlightenment periods, Thomas Hobbes, Montesquieu, Adam Smith, Voltaire, John Locke, and Rousseau. Thomas Hobbes believed that all people were naturally selfish and needed a strong government like an absolute monarchy to remain in control. Montesquieu supported the separation of powers and a system of checks and balances in government. Adam Smith believed that governments... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was our fight to become independent and free. The Enlightenment thinker Adam Smith believed that the government should not interfere with a free market economy. Many of the colonists believed the same, so they dressed up as Native Americans and dumped imported tea from a ship into the Boston Harbour to protest against the Tea Act. The Tea Act heavily impacted the colonists taxes, which is what the colonists were fighting over. This shows that the Enlightenment influenced the American Revolution because the Enlightenment thinker Adam Smith caused the colonists to revolt against Britain s oppression. Another important Enlightenment thinker, John Locke, also inspired the colonists to revolt because he believed that people were able to revolt when their government was not protecting the natural rights of the people. Since the colonists didn t like what was happening to the controlling government, they revolted because of John Locke. Finally, Voltaire believed in freedom of speech and expression, meaning that he thought anyone could protest or say what they believed. The colonists were very impacted by this belief, as it inspired them to speak out against the king and revolt. All in all, the American colonists were heavily influenced by the Enlightenment thinkers because they took the new ideas and applied them, causing them to revolt against Britain to gain independence, starting the American ... • 10. Innocence In Blackberry Winter By Robert Penn Warren Country life is often romanticized as spotless innocence. As described, The city, no matter how small, is corrupt and unrepentant, while the sun shines brighter in the country, making people more wholesome (Lori Lansens). The city is where adventure and opportunity are readily available; innocence is tossed aside in favor of experience. But, the country is known for its presumed ability to help people regain their innocence to cleanse them of their taint. While it is true that the country offers quieter, simpler living as compared to city/suburbliving, the country is not sinless. Robert Penn Warren s Blackberry Winter is undeniable evidence of the dark side of country living. The whimsical title and warm opening paragraph appear as a cheery country aesthetic. • 12. Postmodern Deconstructionism In Alice Walker s Everyday Use No matter what age or generation, people live in a world filled with opposition and conflict. Though this sounds harsh and unforgiving, this description is completely and utterly accurate. In society, people run into all sorts of oppositions without realizing it at all. For example, a person could walk into a darkened room and flip on the light without stopping to ponder the conflict between light and dark . These examples in our daily lives drones on and on from the difference between hot and cold water to the difference between your phone when it is on or off. Though these types of oppositions seem mundane to the average person, to a deconstructionist these distinct concepts are imperative in deconstructing a text. When people describe deconstructing a text, they are referring to the postmodern deconstructionism which focuses mainly on these oppositions and the type of relationship they share. When referring to these oppositions, a deconstructionist uses the word binary which can be found in literature of all types and through all sorts of literary interpretations. Alice Walker s Everyday Use is no exception to this concept with its story focusing on lifestyle and heritage differences displayed between the main characters. Though one can interpret Everyday Use as a story presenting the two binary aspects of a traditional, heritage based, yet impoverished lifestyle and an affluent, modern, yet forward thinking lifestyle as completely opposing concepts, one can ... • 13. Use Of Speech By The Federal Government The tests used by the federal government used to determine if certain types of speech can be censored or banned are as follows. The clear and present danger test which is a test where the government can restrict speech if there is evidence that the speech will cause a clear and present dangerous condition to the public(Bardes Shelley, 2014, p.122). Direct incitement test protects the advocacy of illegal action under the First Amendment unless imminent action is likely to happen. For Instance, it can apply to the Supreme Court case Brandenburg v. Ohio when a KKK leader s conviction was overturned (Bardes Shelley, 2014, p.123). Bad Tendency test is when speech has a tendency to induce to induce illegal behavior (Notes). As defined in the Gitlow case when a left wing group was convicted of publishing a pamphlet that urged a violent overthrow of U.S. government (Bardes Shelley, 2014, p.123). The Test Defamation of character, or Libel is ruining an individual s good name in which the law bans individuals from making false, defamatory statements about others this includes slander (Bardes Shelley, 2014, p.124). I personally believe the press, entertainers and public have been, and are within the right of the First Amendment right, freedom of speech. • 16. Consequences Of Urbanization During The Progressive Era Many industries like the railroad, steel, and oil industries transformed American society in the early 20th century. The railroad industries was one of the most important since thanks to it, the costs of products decreased and the population increased because food was available in a large variety and quantity. Along with the increase of these industry, also came the rise of urbanization. This is called industrialized or the rize of many industries. Industrialization impacted urbanization by crating economic growth and job opportunities that drew people into cities included european immigrants. Although everything was not quite bright. Some of the consequences of urbanization were poor housing conditions, sanitation problems, disease, and overcrowding. Three issues that Americans addressed in the Progressive Era were women suffrage, public health reform, and child labor. Reformers attempted to solve these problems by forming organizations and raising government awareness. During the Progressive Era, American women were fighting for suffrage or the right to vote. Women were viewed as supporters of men and had to be responsible for managing the homelife. While middle class women lived in cities as clerks, teachers, and nurses, lower class women had to work either on farms or in factories. Document B suggests that prohibiting women to vote is forcing them to work under hard conditions. The smaller wage and harder conditions imposed on the women worker are due to the lack of ... It encompasses parts of 6 states, including all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bay is what is known as a watershed, an area that contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Baywill subsequently travel through many streams and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuarysystem in the United States. The Estuary System An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. Historian S, Phillips argues that Stalin was undoubtedly skillful in using the circumstances that presented themselves in 1924 and opportunities that arose thereafter to overcome his opponents in the party . This view supports the idea that Stalin used his political shrewdness and skills to outwit his colleagues for the battle for power and positioned himself in situations that he could benefit from and gain advantages which is an alternative factor to the Party machine argument as the main reason for Stalin s dominance of power. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling everyday tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast amounts of information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now ask ourselves, is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or rather replacing it and hindering our progress? There are individuals who cannot survive without the computer and in its absence suffer from depression and anxiety. In factories around the world, there are computers doing the jobs of once hard working men and women. Once a male teenager turns eighteen, what does he have to sign up for by law? The draft. Teenagers are always looked down upon once they become adults, as if older adults think they are not ready for what is to come, but once they make a mistake against the law, the first thing to happens is they get tried as an adult. By law, drinking alcohol underage, or having possession of alcohol, can be a misdemeanor punishable up to a year in jail, and a $4,000 fine. Personally, this just does not seem fair. Other examples of misdemeanors are: simple assaults, disorderly conduct, domestic violence, indecent exposure, prostitution, theft, trespassing, and vandalism. So, basically, domestic violence and underage drinking could end up having the same punishment. Publically beating someone up and drinking at someone s house underage does not seem like they fit in the same category; both are punishable up to a year with a pretty hefty fine. The English view of race developed directly from their perceptions of themselves, from the ideas of their own racial origins, their own ethnocentricity. Anyway, dyslexics can have difficulties understanding every time they begin to read. The number of times dyslexia occurs or the time of the day it occurs cannot be told; whenever those people are reading, the language complications can be seen. Two main theories have been present regarding the reasons for why this behavior occurs, which are the cerebellar theory and the magnocellular theory. We have proof that dyslexic people cannot process visual concepts (which makes it harder for them to read or write). The magnocellular theory states that this occurs because there is something wrong with the magnocellular pathways. Magnocellular pathways are part of the central nervous system, and allow humans to process visual details from their surroundings. Scientists believe that with these pathways not working, humans obtain dyslexia and are not able to remember the presented information. On the other hand, the cerebellar theory says that people who have problems in the cerebellum might become dyslexic. The cerebellum is basically responsible for human motor control and language. The study showed that boys who played violent video games were more violent toward their colleagues compared to children who do not play any violent video games. Moreover, studies showed that violent video games teach people that violence is an acceptable strategy to solve problems. Thus, people who play violent video games have lower belief in the use of nonviolent strategies. Violent video games also increase the rate of aggression. • 47. The Crucible And 12 Angry Men Analysis The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) share many similarities between them, particularly in the themes they convey throughout the texts. Justice and prejudice are the main ideas presented in both texts, however the setting and outcomes differ significantly between the two, providing a different insight in each text. Both authors, Miller and Lumet, present relevant issues in the context of the 1950s that both texts were written. The similar social condition of America that the two texts were published in is a likely factor as to why the two texts have similar motifs presented throughout. Both The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) are about justice. The two texts feature important scenes involving a trial where the fate of a character s life rests in the hands of other people. However, the two texts have very different final outcomes. In both texts, the main protagonists argue against the majority, despite the backlash that they receive. Proctor speaks out in The Crucible after learning about the lies that Abigail and her friends are telling that have caused the imprisonment of members of the town and are even threatening their lives. Proctor takes a considerable risk by arguing against the witchcraft, especially in the Puritan society where religion is how the town is governed. His decision inevitably backfires on him and begins the series of events that lead to his execution. On the other hand, Juror #8 in Twelve Angry Men goes against the majority as he sees the boys poor upbringing, his less than fair state appointed defence attorney and the jury s almost immediate unanimous decision to convict him, unjust and believes he deserves a better chance. Unlike Proctor, Juror #8 speaking out against the other men results in justice for the accused who walks away with his life. Justice in the two texts is represented considerably differently to each other. In The Crucible it is evident that Abigail and her friends are in the wrong, condemning people to be death by lying and accusing the town members of Witchcraft, and therefore Proctor attempting to expose them for their dishonesty and bring justice to those who had been wrongfully accused, which included his wife, was a brave and noble thing to ... An ethics of enhancement should not rest on blanket judgments; it should ask us to distinguish between the kinds of activities we want to enhance. Both students and academics have turned to cognition enhancing drugs in significant numbers but is their enhancement a form of cheating? The answer should hinge on whether the activity subject to enhancement is zero sum or non zero sum, and whether one is more concerned with excellence in process or excellence in outcome. Cognitive enhancement should be especially tolerated when the activities at stake are non zero sum and when the importance of process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I argue that the use of CEDs is especially beneficial, and should be especially tolerated, when the activities at stake are non zero sum and when the importance of process is outweighed by the importance of outcome. Finally, I criticize the claim that CEDs unnaturally cheapen human accomplishments; instead, I consider their use to be in line with well established conceptions of collaborative authorship, which shift the locus of praise and blame from individual creators to the ultimate products of their efforts. CHARACTERISTICS AND USE OF COgNITION ENHANCINg DRUgS Among the most common CEDs are modafinil, methylphenidate, and dextroamphetamine, which are available under the brand names Provigil, [ 146 ] Goodman CoGnitive enhanCement, CheatinG, and aCComplishment Ritalin, and Adderall, respectively.
