Editor's Notes
- Private State Files are files saved in a user’s local vault view (cache) but not checked in yet (so they don’t exist on the Archive Server). Previously on the user and the EPDM Admin account could see them. EPDM 2015 includes an option to let all users see private state files. This can help prevent problems like duplicate designs and redundant part numbers. Also useful when troubleshooting missing file problems. Duplicate File Name warning now appears when they try to add files to the vault that have the same names as existing vault files. In previous releases, the software warned users when they attempted to check in the files. The warning dialog also contains options to locate the vault copy of the file so you can determine which one should be re-named. MS Office plug-in now offers same functionality as SolidWorks plug-in. Users do not need additional licenses to use the Microsoft Office Add-in. However, users must have a Contributor, CAD Editor, or PSL license to check files out and in.
- Browser & platform independent web client that can be accessed from any device capable of running a web browser – supported browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google® Chrome™, Mozilla® Firefox®, and Apple® Safari®. Client lets users connect to an Enterprise PDM vault from to browse folders, view file information and thumbnails, search, and change file states. Access included with SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM using either a Web or a Viewer license. The Web license comes with each CAD Editor, Contributor, or PSL license. eDrawings functionality with Internet Explorer only (requires eDrawings ActiveX® plug-in to be installed)
- The Copy Tree user interface has received a face lift and many useful tools have been added for 2015. Move Tree allows partial or entire file structures originating from multiple folders to be easily moved to new one or many new locations. Rolling back a file now resets the revision counter to match the revision label. Previously, the counter was not changed resulting in out-of-sequence revisions.Parallel transitions now record user data from ALL approvers instead of just the last approver
- New Copy Tree Features Row highlighting shows selected rows in blue and any row that has modified data will highlight in yellow. In addition modified text is show in bold font. This makes it much easier to know where changes have been made in long reference lists. In addition any cell that has editable text is framed in blue. Thumbnail previews for SW files now display when the cursor hovers over the file icon. This is similar to the behavior in the BOM preview tab. The file path and filename have been split into two cells for easier modification. In previous releases the path and file name was in one string that was difficult to change. There is also a select folder icon that appears in the path cell to make selecting and search for an alternate folder quicker. To provide more space for the file list, the Settings area can be collapsed. So user know how many files they have selected for copying, summary information is displayed at the bottom of the dialog. Simulation results can now be included in the copy process
- Significant improvement have made in reducing the amount of SQL traffic between the client and server for commonly used operations. Folder browsing, logging in and launch integrated search have become more efficient.
- For instance, displaying the right click menu in the Feature Manager or Graphics area is much faster since no database calls are being made until the users selects an EPDM operation.
