1935 (June 22) - Carol Shields was born in Oak Park, Illinois. 1938 – U.S. President Roosevelt is the first President to make an official visit to Canada.1939 (Sept 10th) – A week after Britain’s declaration, Canada enters the war against Germany. 1948 – Prime Minister McKenzie is replaced by Louis St. Laurent.1949 – Newfoundland becomes Canada’s tenth province. 1950 – Canada reaches a population of 14 million people. 1952 – Canada broadcasts its first television station.1960 – Native people win the right to vote.1962 – The Trans Canada highway opens.	         - Launching of satellite 	Alouette 1.1965 – The current Canadian flag is inaugurated. 1968 – Pierre Elliot Trudeau was elected into office.Timeline of History
1969 – Abortion Laws are liberalized.	         - English and French become		official languages of Canada.1976 – The death penalty is abolished.               - Montreal hold’s the Olympics1980 – “Oh, Canada” becomes the national anthem.1981 – Terry Fox attempts his run across Canada to raise money for cancer.1986 – The Canadian dollar drops to 70.2 US, which is the lowest it has ever been.Timeline of History
