Predictors and Incidence of Kidnapping in Contemporary Nigeria: A Socio-Crimi...paperpublications3
Abstract: In this paper, which is essentially a literature review, the researcher undertook a critical investigation into the major predictors and incidence of kidnapping in contemporary Nigeria. The paper further reviewed the various scholars’ and media pundits’ perspectives on kidnapping. Nigeria is in the throes of kidnapping occasioned by a multiplicity of both individual risk factors and social forces. The rising incidence of kidnapping is disturbingly high and destructive to both human and capital development in the country. The current pattern or trend of kidnapping in contemporary Nigeria is a basket case; little wonder therefore that the latest global ranking placed Nigeria as the fourth most notorious kidnapping nation where people can be easily kidnapped with impunity. The quest to settle political differences, inordinate ambition to acquire and accumulate wealth, poverty and social exclusion, perpetual pains of unemployment, and reaction to existing detestable social and political developments are some of the main causes of kidnapping in Nigeria. The central policy implication of this paper is that it will guide security agencies and policy makers on crime and criminality in making reliable policies that will reduce the incidence of kidnapping in Nigeria to the barest minimum.
Abstract: The menace of corruption in Nigeria is very pervasive with global implications. So pervasive is corruption in Nigeria that almost every aspect of National life is affected one way or the other (Matthew et al 2013). According to Woodward 2015, psychosocial approach looks at individuals in the context of the combined influence that psychological factors and the surrounding social environment have on their physical and mental wellness and their ability to function. This approach is used in broad range of helping professions in health and social care settings as well as by medical and social science researchers. It is however difficult to provide the exact date that corruption became a subject of national discourse in Nigeria (Matthew et al 2013). The age of corruption in Nigeria however, has affected the socio-psychology of the citizenry as there have been little or no effective measures put in place to curb the menace of corruption. It is also undisputedly true that corruption in the Nigerian society has eaten deep into the law enforcement agencies, political parties, political leaders, judicial system, government and private ministries and parastatals, law makers, etc., and above all, the psycho-social standing of the citizenry is greatly affected. Thus, curbing corruption in Nigeria may seem too daunting to dare but before proffering critical remedies/strategies/recommendations that will help tremendously in curbing corruption in Nigeria, a closer look at some two major factors that have been grossly infected by corruption will be considered. These two factors are carefully selected because the multiplier effects of corruption we see today in Nigeria find their roots in these two factors which are political corruption and judicial corruption. If corruption in these two institutions mentioned is curbed, then corruption in other aspects of life would have been greatly diminished and the slogan “change begins with me” would become more productive in the reduction of corruption as well as conscience upliftment and Nigeria would be in her way forward to a corrupt-free nation.

Such conditions; torture thoroughly undermined due process and the rule of law, and other inhuman acts were a confirmed routine. Meanwhile inhuman act and torture were implemented by government agencies, such as soldiers; army forces and polices; they thought that torture and abuse of human rights were the best tools to get equitable and eloquent information from suspects. This book concerns with torture and inhuman acts in Nigeria; what is the Nigerian government response to human rights violation; also it would talks about Nigeria economics, poverty and corruption in Nigeria.
The Main Responsibility for Torture and Cruel Act in Nigeria.
The main groups responsible for torture and inhuman acts in Nigeria were the police’s and soldiers mostly using inhuman acts and torture as a way of disarranging suspects of crimes. Torture and inhuman acts were rampant within the soldier’s barracker and polices custody. Liberal democracy all over the world is a welcome phenomenon. In every modern society the game of politics is influenced tremendously by the elite class that projects the political culture which could make or mar democracy, as a result of the activities of the political parties. Evaluating EndSARS - What Nigerians are sayingyemisifaleye1
The month of October was indeed a month to remember in Nigeria amongst its citizens home and abroad. Universally, in all its cities there was protests and even in major cities of the world as Nigerian Youths decided to take their destinies in their hands by staging an unprecedented protest against police brutality.
The protest was tagged #EndSARS and lasted for weeks until hoodlums and looters took over.
Lots of lives were lost and the most painful of all the deaths was the one at the Lekki toll gate which most believed was state sponsored.
The whole event was very ugly, sad and painful with material losses capping the deaths. However, there are so many things that are not balanced, hence Action Plan International decided to conduct a study amongst Nigeria to help throw up light on the views of Nigerians about the whole protest saga and the attendant wanton destruction that made a big mockery of the most effective and effective protest ever organised in Nigeria.
The findings were quite revealing and we hope that readers will take away insights that will help them rethink how they manage news and information.

Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

Micro RNA genes and their likely influence in rice (Oryza sativa L.) dynamic ...Open Access Research Paper
Micro RNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs molecules having approximately 18-25 nucleotides, they are present in both plants and animals genomes. MiRNAs have diverse spatial expression patterns and regulate various developmental metabolisms, stress responses and other physiological processes. The dynamic gene expression playing major roles in phenotypic differences in organisms are believed to be controlled by miRNAs. Mutations in regions of regulatory factors, such as miRNA genes or transcription factors (TF) necessitated by dynamic environmental factors or pathogen infections, have tremendous effects on structure and expression of genes. The resultant novel gene products presents potential explanations for constant evolving desirable traits that have long been bred using conventional means, biotechnology or genetic engineering. Rice grain quality, yield, disease tolerance, climate-resilience and palatability properties are not exceptional to miRN Asmutations effects. There are new insights courtesy of high-throughput sequencing and improved proteomic techniques that organisms’ complexity and adaptations are highly contributed by miRNAs containing regulatory networks. This article aims to expound on how rice miRNAs could be driving evolution of traits and highlight the latest miRNA research progress. Moreover, the review accentuates miRNAs grey areas to be addressed and gives recommendations for further studies.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

Diabetes is a rapidly and serious health problem in Pakistan. This chronic condition is associated with serious long-term complications, including higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Aggressive treatment of hypertension and hyperlipideamia can result in a substantial reduction in cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes 1. Consequently pharmacist-led diabetes cardiovascular risk (DCVR) clinics have been established in both primary and secondary care sites in NHS Lothian during the past five years. An audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery at the clinics was conducted in order to evaluate practice and to standardize the pharmacists’ documentation of outcomes. Pharmaceutical care issues (PCI) and patient details were collected both prospectively and retrospectively from three DCVR clinics. The PCI`s were categorized according to a triangularised system consisting of multiple categories. These were ‘checks’, ‘changes’ (‘change in drug therapy process’ and ‘change in drug therapy’), ‘drug therapy problems’ and ‘quality assurance descriptors’ (‘timer perspective’ and ‘degree of change’). A verified medication assessment tool (MAT) for patients with chronic cardiovascular disease was applied to the patients from one of the clinics. The tool was used to quantify PCI`s and pharmacist actions that were centered on implementing or enforcing clinical guideline standards. A database was developed to be used as an assessment tool and to standardize the documentation of achievement of outcomes. Feedback on the audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery and the database was received from the DCVR clinic pharmacist at a focus group meeting.
UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.
1. “By way of a quick clarification, CALSER is not opposed to genuine, legitimate
and orderly protests against the incident of brutality and human rights abuses
irrespective of who or what the offending entity is. Our members had taken part
in the peaceful protests to demand a cessation to arbitrary profiling and abuse of
individuals by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), whose
operatives harassed Nigerians without end.
“We were surprised but gladdened when the Federal Government accepted the
original five demands without the expected stonewalling or delay tactics. We
had hoped that the 5for5 would open the way for the government to implement
the first round of reforms after which Nigerians would have again delivered the
demand for more reforms, not just in the Nigeria Police Force but in other
spheres of the national life, all of which are indeed in need of rejigging.
“Our shock was consequently profound when infiltrators took over the protests,
raise the demands to seven, 12, 20 and eventually 23 before they drafter thugs in
to attack those of us that originally began the agitation. We were shocked even
further when celebrities and paid activists not only became prominent in the
protests but also used their standing as persons with a large following on the
social media to incite people to violence.
“We still feel scammed that protesters unwittingly ended up as human pawns.
As part of the protests movement, we have reviewed the video footages shared
by colleagues at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos state. The incident at that location
Tuesday, October 20, 2020, opened our eyes to the reality that we were
manipulated to joining with people who would have willingly shot us or any
other group that has joined the protest just so they can have corpses to display.
Thankfully, things did not get to that stage before we found out that we had
been in bed with the enemy.
“Yes, soldiers shot into the air at Lekki Toll Gate. But, no, we did not witness
any massacre neither did we see any, not one, of the 78 people that the
protesters used social media to mislead the world into believing were killed.
The vehemence with which falsehood was peddled about the so-called massacre
is what alarmed us that our members or any other Nigerians present at that
protest location might have been killed if those behind the fake news of Lekki
massacre had the slightest inkling that they would come under scrutiny and their
misleading claims subjected to fact-checking.
“We do not, however, find such logic in why Amnesty International, an
international NGO, with a serial history of publishing jaundiced reports about
2. Nigeria, will deploy disproportionate resources to undermining the integrity of
Nigeria even at such a trying time. The protesters might have made the
misleading claim of a massacre at Lekki Toll Gate and the lie that 78 people
were killed, but it took Amnesty International’s amplification of that lie for the
international community and supra-national organizations to wrongly accuse
and condemn Nigeria and its government.
“For Nigeria to rebuild, Amnesty International must be out of the way.
CALSER, therefore, gives Amnesty International a seven-day ultimatum to
leave Nigeria. The NGO’s failure to leave Nigeria will attract civil disobedience
at its offices in Abuja and Lagos on a scale that will make the campaign of
looting and arson it facilitated appear like child’s play. Amnesty International’s
offices and those of all its affiliated organizations and known supporters in
Nigeria will be set upon the same way that its agents destroyed critical assets in
the country. Its staffers will be treated the same way that innocent policemen
lynched by mobs were treated.”
