Calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) is a compound fertilizer prepared through the reaction of calcium carbonate, ammonia, and nitric acid to form calcium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, and carbon dioxide and water. It is commonly used as a top-dressing fertilizer on acid soils due to its stability and inability to leach away with irrigation water. If not used, plants may exhibit stunted growth, small leaves, and pale or yellowish green coloration.
