Scholarly publishing a perspective from an early career academicDerek Groen
Slides from a 7-minute talk which I gave as part of a panel discussion on research evaluation at #COASP. If research is published in smaller units, it will be much easier to determine what early career researchers have precisely accomplished in their careers.
A research design is the arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of data in a manner that aims to combine relevance to the research with economy in procedure.
It is a conceptual structure within which research is conducted; it constitutes the blueprint for the collection, measurement and analysis of data.
All research endeavors share a common goal of furthering our understanding of the problem and thus all share certain basic stages forming a process called the research process.

B R M - BUSINESS RESEARCH METHOD - Part 1beingyb14
Business research methods refer to the systematic process of gathering, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data and information to aid decision-making in a business context. These methods are crucial for businesses to understand market trends, consumer behavior, competition, and other factors influencing their operations.
Here are some key components of business research methods:
1. **Research Design**: This involves planning the overall approach to conducting research, including choosing the appropriate methodology (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods), defining research objectives, and determining the scope of the study.
2. **Data Collection**: This step involves gathering relevant data through various methods such as surveys, interviews, observations, experiments, and secondary data sources like market reports, government statistics, and academic literature.
3. **Sampling**: Sampling involves selecting a subset of the population that represents the larger group being studied. Different sampling techniques such as random sampling, stratified sampling, or convenience sampling may be used depending on the research objectives and available resources.
4. **Data Analysis**: Once data is collected, it needs to be analyzed to draw meaningful conclusions. This can involve quantitative analysis using statistical tools and techniques such as regression analysis, correlation, or hypothesis testing, as well as qualitative analysis techniques like thematic analysis, content analysis, or grounded theory.
5. **Interpretation and Conclusion**: After analyzing the data, researchers interpret the findings in the context of the research objectives and draw conclusions. This step involves synthesizing the results, identifying patterns or trends, and discussing their implications for the business.
6. **Reporting**: The final step involves communicating the research findings through reports, presentations, or other formats. Clear and concise reporting is essential to ensure that decision-makers can understand and act upon the insights generated by the research.
Business research methods can be applied in various areas such as market research, product development, customer satisfaction analysis, strategic planning, and performance evaluation. By employing rigorous research methods, businesses can make informed decisions that enhance their competitiveness and contribute to their long-term success.
By the end of the session, attendants will be able to know:

Imagine once again that you are an automobile manufacturing executive tasked with increasing sales in your state. You wish to do a qualitative study to obtain the perspective of sales personnel regarding an incentive program you implemented at few dealerships that quantitatively proved to be successful. The three sources of data for your case study are individual semi-structured interviews, archival documents, and field observations. What are the most significant strengths and weaknesses of the methods for collecting data from these data sources? Why are these significant? What skills are needed to collect the data effectively? Explain. What concerns do you have about the feasibility of implementing these methods of data collection for this study? Explain.
One student already answered the below answer
Use this students answer below to make sure your answer sounds similar
STUDENT ANSWER- In the scenario for the automobile manufacturing company and the perspective of the sales personnel using the semi-structured interview, field observations, and archival documents would have positives and negatives. The semi-structured interview provides an opportunity for in-depth, open-ended questions (Steffes & Jacobs, 2021). The researcher can stray from the established questions, which allows for follow-up questions. A weakness might be the time it takes to interview all the participants, conduct the interview, and the researcher's bias. Field observations can not be recorded as they occur and rely on the researcher's memory. The researcher needs to record the evidence quickly after the event (Steffes & Jacobs, 2021). Finally, archival documents need approval before they are used. For our scenario, looking at companies implementing an incentive program would benefit the research. The data will provide a rich description of the participants. The researcher must be familiar with the research but not provide bias when conducting the research. Some considerations need to be made when collecting data. Modality, time of the interview, if they are recorded, and sharing the purpose of the interview must be disclosed to those participating in the research. Concerns about the feasibility would be money, time, and the number of participants.

9 November 2019
Greetings Elton,
Using the same research design that you selected for the Week 5 assignment, you were to take 2-4 pages and consider the type of data collected to create procedures for a comprehensive analysis. Clearly define your approach to: (a) organizing data; (b) coding and thematic development; (c) triangulation; and (d) using software applications.
***************
The feedback process consisted of a four-part summary (four-parts listed below), a few short, location-specific balloon-comments found within the margins of the text, and the highlighting of grammar, punctuation, or APA styling errors found within the text. Make sure that you view your document with the track changes (review toolbar) set to ALL MARKUP to be able to see all the comments.
The summary is split into four parts. These four parts consist of grammar/punctuation, conformity with APA style citations, conformity with APA style references, and content. The order of the parts listed does not intend to emphasize the importance of the parts as the content is always the most important part of the assignment. Therefore, it is listed in the end because normal memory concentrates on what was heard / read last.
What was found:
Grammar/ Punctuation
There were a few grammar or punctuation errors found within. There were problems in spelling, missing punctuation leading to run on sentences, missing punctuation leading to grammatical issues, and the agreement issues between words (i.e., subject/verb agreement and numerical plural numbers without plural noun). Make sure that you read your work prior to submission so that you will not have run on sentences within your work. Pay attention to the word “and” within your work.
APA style citations
The citations present were in APA format. You seem to be missing the additional 3 scholarly sources from your field that were required within this assignment.
APA style references
Not enough information was included within your references to make them correct APA references. You are missing page numbers, volume, issue number, and the digital object identifier for your journal article sources. Your book title should be in italics. The publisher should not. All of the titles should be in sentence case not in title case. This is not a problem with the software program. This is a problem with the keypunch issue. Your program cannot change lowercase letters into uppercase letters in vice versa. You must be it incorrectly for it to properly appear. Many have problems with this thought process. Do not leave it up to the software program to correct keypunch errors.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
