Difference between Shaper and planer
Shaper Planer
1 Cutting stroke is slower the inactive
stroke.
Cutting stroke is remain slower.
2 Shaper machine is use for small
working.
Planer machine is used for large working.
3 Through machining a single cutting
tool is used.
Two or extra cutting tool be able to use through
machining.
4 Cutting tool move up and down in
horizontal direction as make a cutting
process.
Cutting tool remain motionless.
5 Stroke length is small. Stroke length is considerably larger then shaper.
6 Stroke length is regulated through
the stroke by adjusting screw.
Distance of travel table is keeping pace is
stopped by dogs.
7 Cutting rate through the cutting
stroke is differ.
Planer has nearly suitable cutting speed.
8 Work piece is highly tight on a stable
bed.
Work piece is held firmly on a horizontally
moving table.

In Shaper machine, tool is having
reciprocating motion and w/p is
clamped on table which is stationary.
It is mostly suitable for light duty
operation. In Shaping large cutting
force is transferred to tool.
In Planer machine, tool is having stationary and
w/p is clamped on table which is reciprocating
motion. It is mostly suitable for Heavy duty
operation. In planner large cutting force is
transferred to table.
Milling Machine:
Milling is the machining process of using
rotary cutters to remove material from a work
piece advancing (or feeding) in a direction at an
angle with the axis of the tool. It covers a wide
variety of different operations and machines, on
scales from small individual parts to large,
heavy-duty gang milling operations. It is one of
the most commonly used processes in industry
and machine shops today for machining parts
to precise sizes and shapes
Lathe Machine:
A lathe is a machine tool that rotates the
work piece on its axis to perform various
operations such as cutting, sanding,
knurling, drilling, or deformation, facing,
turning, with tools that are applied to the
work piece to create an object
with symmetry about an axis of rotation.
Honing Machine:
Honing is an abrasive machining process that
produces a precision surface on a metal work
piece by scrubbing an abrasive stone against
it along a controlled path. Honing is primarily
used to improve the geometric form of a
surface, but may also improve the texture.
Typical applications are the finishing
of cylinders for internal combustion
engines, air bearing spindles and gears.
Gear hobbing machine:
Hobbing is a machining process
for gear cutting, cutting splines, and
cutting sprockets on a hobbing
machine, which is a special type of
milling machine. The teeth or splines
are progressively cut into the work
piece by a series of cuts made by
a cutting tool called a hob. Compared
to other gear forming processes it is
relatively inexpensive but still quite
accurate, thus it is used for a broad range of parts and quantities. Gears are commonly made
from metal, plastic, and wood.
Slotting machine:
Slotter is called slotting machine, is a
heavy duty machine bin which cutting
tool move vertically. Ram is mounted
on free bearing, the upper part which
is pivoted, to shift the ram in any
angular way. Work table can be
specified transverse, longitudinal or
rotary motion. Slotter can make a
range of operation, for example the
finishing of internal and external plain
surfaces, in addition to slotting.
Slotter works on the similar principle
as normal shaper but that the ram
which carries the tool travel in vertical
direction at right angle to work table.
Planer machine:
A planer is a type of metalworking
machine tool that uses linear relative
motion between the work piece and a
single-point cutting tool to cut the
work piece. A planer is similar to
a shaper, but larger, and with work
piece moving, whereas in
a shaper the cutting tool moves
Shaper machine:
A shaper is a type of machine tool that
uses linear relative motion between the
work piece and a single-point cutting
tool to machine a linear tool path. Its
cut is analogous to that of a lathe,
except that it is (archetypally) linear
instead of helical.
Drilling machine:
There are two types of machine drill, the
bench drill and the pillar drill. The bench drill
is used for drilling holes through materials
including a range of woods, plastics and
metals. It is normally bolted to a bench so
that it cannot be pushed over and that larger
pieces of material can be drilled safely.
The larger version of the machine drill is
called the pillar drill. This has a long column
which stands on the floor. This can do exactly
the same work as the bench drill but because
of its larger size it is capable of being used to
drill larger pieces of materials and produce
larger holes.
Grinding machine:
A grinding machine, often shortened
to grinder, is any of various power tools
or machine tools used for grinding,
which is a type of machining using an
abrasive wheel as the cutting tool.
Each grain of abrasive on the wheel's
surface cuts a small chip from the work
piece via shear deformation.

  • 1. Difference between Shaper and planer Shaper Planer 1 Cutting stroke is slower the inactive stroke. Cutting stroke is remain slower. 2 Shaper machine is use for small working. Planer machine is used for large working. 3 Through machining a single cutting tool is used. Two or extra cutting tool be able to use through machining. 4 Cutting tool move up and down in horizontal direction as make a cutting process. Cutting tool remain motionless. 5 Stroke length is small. Stroke length is considerably larger then shaper. 6 Stroke length is regulated through the stroke by adjusting screw. Distance of travel table is keeping pace is stopped by dogs. 7 Cutting rate through the cutting stroke is differ. Planer has nearly suitable cutting speed. 8 Work piece is highly tight on a stable bed. Work piece is held firmly on a horizontally moving table. 9 In Shaper machine, tool is having reciprocating motion and w/p is clamped on table which is stationary. It is mostly suitable for light duty operation. In Shaping large cutting force is transferred to tool. In Planer machine, tool is having stationary and w/p is clamped on table which is reciprocating motion. It is mostly suitable for Heavy duty operation. In planner large cutting force is transferred to table. Milling Machine: Milling is the machining process of using rotary cutters to remove material from a work piece advancing (or feeding) in a direction at an angle with the axis of the tool. It covers a wide variety of different operations and machines, on scales from small individual parts to large, heavy-duty gang milling operations. It is one of the most commonly used processes in industry and machine shops today for machining parts to precise sizes and shapes

Lathe Machine: A lathe is a machine tool that rotates the work piece on its axis to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, or deformation, facing, turning, with tools that are applied to the work piece to create an object with symmetry about an axis of rotation. Honing Machine: Honing is an abrasive machining process that produces a precision surface on a metal work piece by scrubbing an abrasive stone against it along a controlled path. Honing is primarily used to improve the geometric form of a surface, but may also improve the texture. Typical applications are the finishing of cylinders for internal combustion engines, air bearing spindles and gears. Gear hobbing machine: Hobbing is a machining process for gear cutting, cutting splines, and cutting sprockets on a hobbing machine, which is a special type of milling machine. The teeth or splines are progressively cut into the work piece by a series of cuts made by a cutting tool called a hob. Compared to other gear forming processes it is relatively inexpensive but still quite
  • 3. accurate, thus it is used for a broad range of parts and quantities. Gears are commonly made from metal, plastic, and wood. Slotting machine: Slotter is called slotting machine, is a heavy duty machine bin which cutting tool move vertically. Ram is mounted on free bearing, the upper part which is pivoted, to shift the ram in any angular way. Work table can be specified transverse, longitudinal or rotary motion. Slotter can make a range of operation, for example the finishing of internal and external plain surfaces, in addition to slotting. Slotter works on the similar principle as normal shaper but that the ram which carries the tool travel in vertical direction at right angle to work table. Planer machine: A planer is a type of metalworking machine tool that uses linear relative motion between the work piece and a single-point cutting tool to cut the work piece. A planer is similar to a shaper, but larger, and with work piece moving, whereas in a shaper the cutting tool moves
  • 4. Shaper machine: A shaper is a type of machine tool that uses linear relative motion between the work piece and a single-point cutting tool to machine a linear tool path. Its cut is analogous to that of a lathe, except that it is (archetypally) linear instead of helical. Drilling machine: There are two types of machine drill, the bench drill and the pillar drill. The bench drill is used for drilling holes through materials including a range of woods, plastics and metals. It is normally bolted to a bench so that it cannot be pushed over and that larger pieces of material can be drilled safely. The larger version of the machine drill is called the pillar drill. This has a long column which stands on the floor. This can do exactly the same work as the bench drill but because of its larger size it is capable of being used to drill larger pieces of materials and produce larger holes.
