The cabbage maggot, or Delia radicum, is a fly pest that damages cabbage and other crops like radishes and carrots. It is gray-brown, around 6.5 mm long, and found from spring through summer. The larvae, or maggots, bore into and eat the roots of host plants, which can cause wilting or damage the tap root. Farmers can control cabbage maggots by using ground covers, tilling soil to reduce emergence, or releasing staphylinid beetles as natural predators.
