Every engineering structure and especially every bridge faces unavoidable constraints among those a limited weight admissible on the bridge deck which has to be respected during its lifetime. This constraint is then translated by a limited road thickness (without waterproofing) defined by the design of the structure since its conception. Depending on pathologies found during the life time of the structure (flow, excessive constraints…), the operator can also be

Ultratech RMC summer training covered concrete testing methods like slump test and bulk density test. The working of an RMC plant and concrete mix design were explained. Tests performed included sieve analysis, air entrainment, aggregate impact, moisture content, and flakiness. The working procedure and flow chart showed the process from storage of aggregates to pumping concrete on site. Design mix calculations followed IS and IRC standards to select water-cement ratio and determine cement and aggregate contents. Transportation of concrete over long distances and limited workability time were identified as challenges.

The document summarizes a complex ground engineering project for the redevelopment of Crossrail's Paddington New Yard site adjacent to Paddington Station in London. Bachy Soletanche was contracted to install different pile types including 162 secant piles, 106 batching plant piles, 122 derailment piles, 77 low headroom piles, 74 SolThread piles, and 51 restricted access mini-piles. An innovative piling technique called SolThread was used, which requires less concrete and transport than conventional piles due to its threaded design. The SolThread piles increased capacity by 40% and formed the basis of facilities including a concrete plant, bus depot, and rail infrastructure at the site.
Ready mix concrete is concrete that is batched at a central plant and delivered in transit mixers, rather than being mixed on the construction site. The first ready mix concrete plant was established in the 1930s. Ready mix concrete production involves precise processes of storing and dosing cement, sand, gravel, and water before mixing in the plant and transporting in transit mixers. Transmixers are specially designed vehicles that transport fresh concrete without compromising its characteristics, and have carrying capacities ranging from 4 to 12 cubic meters. Order fulfillment for ready mix concrete is challenging due to the perishable nature of concrete and need to synchronize multiple truck deliveries according to traffic and site conditions.

It emphasizes choosing the right equipment for each job in road construction to maximize productivity and efficiency.
Ready mix concrete is a pre-mixed concrete that is manufactured in a factory according to a set recipe or customer specifications. It is delivered to worksites by truck mixers or agitator trucks. Truck mixers mix the ingredients en route to the site, while agitator trucks only transport pre-mixed concrete without additional mixing. The benefits of ready mix concrete include speedy construction, lower labor costs, controlled water-cement ratios, and use in congested sites with limited space. However, longer transport times can impact concrete setting and additional traffic may be generated.

2. Fly ash is described as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) that contributes to hardened concrete properties through hydraulic or pozzolanic activity.
3. Additives are chemicals that can improve hardened concrete durability or reduce water content to shorten setting times.
4. The amount of water controls many fresh and hardened concrete properties like workability, strength, permeability, durability
This document discusses storage bins, silos, and hoppers used to store bulk solids. It covers various design considerations for hopper discharge including throttling material flow. Mass flow and core flow hoppers are described. Recommended proportions for hopper dimensions to store a given volume are provided. Caking issues and common causes of silo failure are also summarized. Ready mix concrete is produced at a central batching plant and delivered to construction sites in agitator trucks. This allows for precise mixtures and reduces waste compared to on-site mixing. The key advantages are quality control, reduced labor costs, and faster construction. Some disadvantages include additional transportation costs and the possibility of contamination during delivery. The first ready mix concrete plant was established in Germany in 1903, and commercial delivery began in the United States in 1913. The industry has grown significantly since the 1960s to become widely used around the world today.

Cement concrete mix design involves determining the proportions of cement, water, fine aggregate, and coarse aggregate to produce concrete with specified properties like strength, workability, and durability at lowest cost. The key factors influencing mix design include the required compressive strength, type and grade of cement, maximum size of coarse aggregates, grading of aggregates, water-cement ratio, workability, and durability. The water-cement ratio is especially important as it affects the strength, permeability, and workability of the hardened concrete.
Study: The Future of VR, AR and Self-Driving CarsLinkedIn
We asked LinkedIn members worldwide about their levels of interest in the latest wave of technology: whether they’re using wearables, and whether they intend to buy self-driving cars and VR headsets as they become available. We asked them too about their attitudes to technology and to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the devices that they use. The answers were fascinating – and in many cases, surprising.
This SlideShare explores the full results of this study, including detailed market-by-market breakdowns of intention levels for each technology – and how attitudes change with age, location and seniority level. If you’re marketing a tech brand – or planning to use VR and wearables to reach a professional audience – then these are insights you won’t want to miss.
Containment berms provide an easy way for facilities to meet EPA and SPCC regulations for containing potential spills of liquids such as fuel, oil, chemicals, and frac water. "Rethinking Kållered │ From Big Box to a Reuse Hub: A Transformation Journey Toward Sustainability"
The booklet of my master’s thesis at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. (Gothenburg, Sweden)
This thesis explores the transformation of the vacated (2023) IKEA store in Kållered, Sweden, into a "Reuse Hub" addressing various user types. The project aims to create a model for circular and sustainable economic practices that promote resource efficiency, waste reduction, and a shift in societal overconsumption patterns.
Reuse, though crucial in the circular economy, is one of the least studied areas. Most materials with reuse potential, especially in the construction sector, are recycled (downcycled), causing a greater loss of resources and energy. My project addresses barriers to reuse, such as difficult access to materials, storage, and logistics issues.
Aims:
• Enhancing Access to Reclaimed Materials: Creating a hub for reclaimed construction materials for both institutional and individual needs.
• Promoting Circular Economy: Showcasing the potential and variety of reusable materials and how they can drive a circular economy.
• Fostering Community Engagement: Developing spaces for social interaction around reuse-focused stores and workshops.
• Raising Awareness: Transforming a former consumerist symbol into a center for circular practices.
Highlights:
• The project emphasizes cross-sector collaboration with producers and wholesalers to repurpose surplus materials before they enter the recycling phase.
• This project can serve as a prototype for reusing many idle commercial buildings in different scales and sizes.
• The findings indicate that transforming large vacant properties can support sustainable practices and present an economically attractive business model with high social returns at the same time.
• It highlights the potential of how sustainable practices in the construction sector can drive societal change.
