The Importance Of Creative Games
Happy birthday, kiddo, said my big brother Paul. My brother always had a tendency to smile,
even though he wasn t the most appealing, with crooked teeth, glasses, and black hair sticking
out all over. I opened the card, read the cute little message, (I m forced to think it was some sort
of pun, I can t remember.) and the golden sheen of an American Express gift card did the first
thing I decided to do was hug my brother. Of course, what I did with this card was what I wanted
to do since the last time I was at my brother s house: get a new game, BlazBlue: Chronophantasma
Extend . And I did, after waiting for the game to install, looking up character biographies, and
figuring out how to pronounce the character names. My first instinct... Show more content on

Honestly, I am so happy that there was a breather fight in between, between the characters
Hakumen, a warrior clad in white, and the Leader of the Six Heroes and Terumi, a man wearing
an orange and black cloak decorated with snake imagery, and my favorite character, due to his
rather despicable actions. Too bad it went by faster than a lightning bolt. In the second round, I
had a tougher time, but I knew what to do against the beast, so it evens out. What I did was a
concept called dominant strategy: Once you discover something that is good, you re always
going to use that thing. The strategy was press Jump, then A or B on the controller. Jump, A or
B, Jump, A or B, again, and again, and again. However, when his health meter was very low, the
beast let out a giant laser beam. The character that I was controlling was unfortunately defeated. I
had the urge to throw something. OK, that was just one loss. No need to scream about it, said a
voice in my head. And so, after a day, and a nice warm shower, I decided to finish the job, and,
thanks to indomitable spirit, I won. Or, at least, for the second round. But the battle wasn t over
yet. No breather this time. Just right into the fight as Ragna. And boy, is this going to be fun or
what? I asked myself, oozing with sarcasm. Ugh. I yelled, annoyed, as I get attacked by a series of
flying swords. Lost again. Grr! I screamed, angrier,

Its main objective is improving economic efficiency, especially labor productivity. It was one of the
earliest attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and to management (3). He
believed this could greatly increase the effectiveness with which a company runs. To apply his
solution, Taylor created planning departments, staffed them with engineers, and gave them the
responsibility to:
1. Develop scientific methods for doing work.
2. Establish goals for productivity.
3. Establish systems of rewards for meeting the goals.
4. Train the personnel in how to use the methods and thereby meet the goals.
In theory, providing the workers an insight into the goals set out by the company and providing
them a suitable and healthy environment along with teaching them the latest techniques could
really help a company to work its way towards its desired goals. The workers should be kept
together as a group and treated fairly with promotions and appreciation whenever the company does
good in the market. This could motivate the workers in putting more effort in reaching the goals
that have been set up by the company.

Eliot s Influences On Literature
Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot s Influences On Literature The nineteenth and twentieth
century were pivotal times in the world of literature. Many new elements of writing and style
were evolving and authors all over the world were finding ways to present what they felt most
passionate about. Some writers opened their readers up to newer ideas by the means of, as Ezra
Pound once stated, making it new. Two writers in particular who did a fantastic job of this were
Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot. Frederick Douglass s most popular work is his autobiography,
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. In this story, Douglass makes romanticism new.
On the contrast, T.S. Elliot is widely known for his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, in
which he makes new of imagery. While Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot come from completely
different backgrounds and write with different styles, they share a few commonalities as well as
both being influences on literary society. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot
County, Maryland around the supposed year of 1818. Like many other slaves, his exact date of
birth remains unknown. Douglass was an abolitionist for slavery as well as a supporter for women
s rights. Due to his works and accomplishments, it is obvious that Douglass was a major contributor
to the literary tradition of American Romanticism. After escaping slavery, Frederick Douglass wrote
his most famous autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of

At the first read, Durant simply putting his watch and ring on the dashboard of the downed
helicopter does not seem like an incredible act, but it is considering that it was his first reaction
when he came to after the crash. Durant is an interesting character because he reacts in a harsh
manner, and then calms himself by doing something that gives himself a normal type of feeling.
While he himself could not explain why he took off his watch and ring, I think it was because it
was symbolic of him giving up in a sense. Not necessarily in a life and death way, but as in
accepting the situation and simply allowing the fact that the helicopter just crashed settle in his
mind, rather than panicking and taking immediate action. This is relevant because it marks the
point where Durant is admitting that he needs help through his actions, which is important in order
to convey how serious the crash

Ezra Pound s Developing Ideas
Often called quot;the poet s poet, quot; because of his profound influence on 20th century writing

Essay on Educational Goals and Philosophies
Educational Goals and Philosophies
For the past seven years, I have had the same dream to someday be a high school math teacher. I
am finally on my way to turning that dream into a reality. Along the way, I am learning a lot of
things and forming a number of opinions. One of the main areas in which I am forming new
beliefs is in relation to what methods I will use in teaching my class and what aspects of what
philosophies I will employ. First of all, however, I must reach the point where I have a class to
teach.
How am I going to reach my goal of becoming a teacher? I believe I am taking the most important

I believe these subjects are necessary for a well rounded education, and as a math teacher, I will be
teaching one of these basic subjects. I do not believe there should be a curriculum that excludes
one form or another of math. It is important for our students to know math and these other basic
subjects if we want to be able to compete with the rest of the world economically and
technologically. Not only must students sit in a class where these subjects are taught, but they
also need to master the material before they move on to the next grade. This is the job of the
teacher. It is up to the teacher to make sure that his students understand the material and can do it
on their own before he moves on to something else. I believe that the grade a student makes
reflects the teacher. If a student makes an F, the teacher has failed in his teaching of that student.
This does not mean that the teacher should make his class easy. I still agree with the essentialist
that academic rigor is an essential component of education. However, I do not agree that this
necessitates a great amount of homework. The level of work can be tough and stretch the minds of
the students, but if the teacher is able to teach his students well in class and they comprehend the
material and can practice it during the class period, I do not think a lot of homework

Why It Is Important To Greek Art Essay
Excuse me, my friends for bringing up this topic at such a busy time, but I feel like this a topic

where it brought them. To this assembly. My fellow Athenians, we must support the arts in order
to become the center place for Greek culture, and so we do not become idiots like our neighbors,

Imagine a paved road, going straight across the world until it reaches the end of the earth and
falls off. There is only one way to go. A person who follows this way will become a follower, and
will not be able to make decisions, and will eventually reach the end of the earth and fall off, his
voice never to be heard from again. Now, imagine that the road has many branching pathways, one
leading to righteousness, one leading to justice, one leading to a naked man taking a shower. These
are all choices that we can make. When a person appreciates music, their mind is opened up so that
they can make decisions that are more thought out. Take Crito for example. As a follower of
Socrates, and rich man, you must have some musical training. He used his musical training to
develop a new way of eating pork skins! Instead of getting his hands dirty with, he used a piece
of paper to grab his pork skin and eat it! However, on a serious note, if music is supported, then
we will have many people in our assembly who do have different views, and who do think their
ideas out before presenting them. That, in turn, will lead to a fairer democracy, for we will have
more ideas that are of the

Abstract
Transparent conductive films of fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) electrospun on glass substrate
were prepared. These transparent conductive films were prepared at a substrate temperature in the
range 350 550 ОїC. A solution of SnCl2.2H2O in methanol and glacial acetic acidwas used as a
precursor. Hydrofluoric acid was added to the precursor solution as a dopant. The films were
prepared in one single step and no further treatment is required. The distance between the spray
nozzle and the substrate was in the range 2 10 cm, the liquid flow rate was in the range 10 50 ml
/h, the duration of electrospinning was in the range 5 50 min and 15 20 kV electrical potential
was applied. The prepared films were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, FTIR and UV VIS
spectroscopy. The resistivity measurements were measured by the four point probe technique. It
was found that the films are transparent in the UV Visible region and was about 70% and high
reflective in the infra red region (99%). XRD pattern indicates that the films exhibit a preferred
orientation (110) with grain size about 16 nm. By comparing these results with that obtained by

Latin America Foreign Policy Essay
Latin America cannot be categorized as one homogenous block. In spite of sharing multiple aspects
culture, language, and history there is not a single standard culture that distinguishes the region.
One aspect of Latin American culture, regarding foreign policy, is a prevalent respect for the norm
of sovereignty and non intervention. There exists a strong disposition to follow international law
as a means to prevent war or at the very least ward off potential intervention by extraregional
powers. Accordingly, the factor of self interests and self preservation creates a divergent spectrum
of foreign policies within these countries. Thus, there is a unique propensity of domestic politics
primarily from those leaders in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A comparative analysis will be made between a legalistic and pragmatic/realistic approaches. Taking
into account that each country is independent from each other, and with differing interests, this
essay will give multiple reasons as to why such a variety in policy exists. Accordingly, this essay
will show a propensity for states to apply the foreign policy development strategy that best fits their
needs. Although there may be a sense of preferential treatment for some strategies, Latin American
countries are not inherently bound to a specific development scheme.
The Legalistic Nature of Latin America
Legalism as a cornerstone of Latin American norms has effectively shaped the relationship between
how these states relate to each other and the world. According to Arie Kacowicz, it was considered
honorable for a country to meet its lawful commitments not divorced from considerations of
national interests such as prestige and reputation. When a region s identity relies so much on
traditional legacies, the trend is to lean towards the accepted norms that culturally tie the region. In
its simplest terms, norms are standards of behavior or laws that oversee the behavior of a societal
block. Although, Latin America cannot be studied as a homogenous block, countries in the region
vary in their alignment patterns independently of each other in an attempt to pursue self interests.
There is, however, enough of a social

Born in 1896 and although died, insane and in poverty in 1948, Artaud lived an influential life. All
his attempts to create a theatre of magic, of beauty and power that would change the hearts of

Impact Of The British On Indian Business Culture
Global managers, and especially the Managing Director of JI (India), have to face several
challenges. These challenges are not clearly defined and different types of challenges, who typify
diverse cultural, political social systems, arise from a complex and dynamic world. Cross cultural
Leadership , Ethical Leadership, and Change Leadership had been identified as the most relevant
ones concerning the case study.
In terms of increasing globalisation, there is the need and necessity for managers to be aware and
more importantly to understand different cultures and hence to be successful in world of high
cultural connection. Culture demonstrates shared values and attitudes. It cannot be only classified
by its geographical boundaries but also by a subcultural, e.g. gender, ethnic and an organisational
context and is influenced by historical, social and political issues (Cavusgil, Knight and
Riesenberger, 2008). The impact of the British on the Indian business culture is reflected in the well
educated Indian bureaucracy and the fact that English is taught in schools. However, cultural
differences shouldn t be neglected. In this point managers should consider in which degree natural
culture contrast or is integrated in organisational culture and its impact on the previously mentioned
challenges.

leadership, overall cultural differences can be compared, especially in this

How To Respond To The Little Fugue
1.The fugue is a polyphonic music that is based on one main theme, called a subject . The fugue
presents only a single mood with a continuous flow. Starting with a monophonic texture voice
follows with imitative answers . The repetition of subject is constantly throughout the piece,
separating with episodes . I think they were popular because the fugues is easy to remember with
their repetition of the subject. Though it is constantly repeating with one melodic line, the musicis
not bored but extremely exciting with their skillful technique of variations. Comparing to jazz, the
fugue has the same technique of adding lots of impressive variations, however, it is still fluent and
related to the subject. For example, the fugue has four different variation of subject, which is
inversion, retrograde, augmentation and diminution. In jazz, these technique are often used in
improvisation. Both music present a single mood, and remain smooth throughout the piece with the
plenty variations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

countersubject right after the subject is played in a voice. This result in the much shorter and

Lofty Diction In The Life Of St Degory
Saint Gregory of Nyssa opens his narrative The Life of St. Macrina, with a justification as to why
he is documenting accounts of St. Macrina s life. St. Gregory, St. Macrina s brother, sets out to
create a narrative that is both artless and simple , but rather, we receive a rich, detailed
expression of admiration and praise (77). According to St. Gregory, Macrina was the spiritual
leader in their family, using her knowledge of Scripture and philosophy to motivate her family
and others to cast off the illusion of a material life. With a wealth of knowledge and the ability to
persuade others, Macrina rose to the position of Superior. Saint Gregory, in his work The Life of
St. Macrina, utilizes lofty diction, tone, and a clear characterization of Macrina, which enables
us to see how through Christianity, women of the 3rd century had the freedom to establish an
identity outside of the secular, patriarchal world, and what levels of respect that identity yielded.
St. Gregory s use of lofty diction is apparent when he describes their mother s character. By using
lofty diction such as extremely virtuous, exceptionally pure, and spotless, it is obvious St.
Gregory holds his mother in high esteem, even though she was not a handmaid for the church
like Macrina (77). Moreover, if these are the words he chooses when describing his mother, we can
see why his word choice is lofty for Macrina, who held the respected position of Superior later in
her life. Nonetheless, due to

Pharmaceutical Companies, Intellectual Property
Case Study #1
Pharmaceutical Companies, Intellectual Property, and the Global AIDS Epidemic
Questions for Review: 1. Do pharmaceutical companies have a responsibility to distribute drugs
for free or at low cost in developing countries? What are the main arguments for and against such
an approach? What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving drugs for free versus offering
them at low no profit prices?
I don t necessarily think that they have the responsibility to do so but I think that they should want
to as there are millions dying and suffering tremendously from this epidemic. Pharmaceutical
companies make billions and billions of dollars a year, I feel that they should want to help people
who can t help themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree that it is an appropriate change in policy. People tend to get greedy when large amounts
of profit come flowing in blinding them of people s real needs for help. The benefit of protecting
the pharmaceutical patents is that it helps the poor get drugs at a lower cost actually giving them a
chance, everyone deserves a chance. We are economically the most advanced compared to any
other country we should want to help those who don t have the means to help themselves. As many
could potentially benefit from this policy it does have its problems. This policy would bring along
some negative impact. For example, Pharmaceutical companies could face long term threats along
with other risks.
5. Given the initiatives announced by global development and aid organizations and among
pharmaceutical companies themselves, was it necessary to relax IPR rules in order to ensure that
adequate supplies of AIDS medications would be available for distribution in the developing world?
I think that it is necessary to relax some of the IPR rules. IPRS protect creativity and innovation for
the investors making it harder for people to use inventor s ideas without permission, I think that we
should protect intellectual property rights of the pharmaceutical companies. To ensure that adequate
announced supplies of AIDS medications would be available for distribution in the developing
world, yes I believe IPR rules should be relaxed.

Character Analysis of Sir Toby Belch in ShakespeareВ

Comedy is by far the most influential factor in deciding whether or not a story is entertaining to its
audience, due to its ability to create a more relaxed and pleasurable environment in the plot. From
the playful awkwardness of Anne Shirley, to the witty banter of detectives Tommy and Tuppence, it
is evident that comedic characters have always been appreciated and acknowledged in literature. Sir
Toby Belch is but one of many amusing characters, and is by far one of the most humorous. While
Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is surrounded around an issue of romantic entanglement, Sir Toby s
very presence is enough to lighten the mood and accentuate the comedic theme of the story through
his creation of problems and unique personality.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the most amusing scenes in the play, followed by Belch s famous attempt at
getting Sir Andrew to accost Olivia s chamber maid; Maria which resulted in utter confusion. In
addition, Sir Toby also delivers several witty and comedic comments to divert the attention from
a supposedly serious love affair between Malvolio and Olivia to the events taking place behind
the ever famous box tree. Here s an overweening rouge (II v 27) and O for a stone bow to hit him
in the eye! (II v 43) are samples of the remarks made by Sir Toby while he observes Malvolio in
hiding. Although all these examples were mere results of a drunken night or craving for fun on Sir
Toby s part, as an audience they were received as cheerful moments in the play that amended their
attention from the surrounding melancholy. It also demonstrates his unique capability to amuse
onlookers no matter how intense a situation is, and trumps his unappealing and carefree attitude.
Furthermore, another of the countless reasons why Sir Toby Belch is the most enjoyable character
in Twelfth Night is pertaining to his whimsical and absurd personality that is like none other s in
the play. This intrigues the audience and compels them to enjoy every moment that he appears on
stage, seeing as though a dull statement from Sir Toby has not yet been found in his dialogue.

What more concrete proof of their victory? (Levi 51)
This view of social dominance and evolutionary superiority is very in line with the views of the
Nazi Party and ordinary Germans. This hate for the Jews starts with Hitler s Ant Jewish
propaganda and the implementation of the Nuremberg laws. In Perish the Jew, Hitler puts his
views of racial superiority into writing, The Aryan regards work as the basis for the maintenance
of the national community as such; the Jew regards work as a means of exploiting other peoples
(Hitler 223). With this writing and other propaganda, Hitler successfully spread a hate for Jewish
people across the country. Hitler then created the Nuremberg Laws, which slowly but
successfully stripped the Jews of all their rights and made them second class citizens in
Germany. The Jews slowly became, in the eyes of the German people and the SS, people who
could be consciously oppressed and turned into slave workers. Obviously nothing justifies the
heinous treatment of Jews in concentration camps, but Levi gives us reasons why he believed the
SS were able to treat Jews in this way. He believed that the prisoner s appearance after a few days,
dirty and repugnant, could have been a source of the terrible treatment; it is much easier to oppress
those who look almost inhuman. Levi also believed the treatment was just another way to prove
racial superiority. The ability to completely suppress and

The Age Of Enlightenment By Voltaire
1.Do some research on Voltaire and his beliefs as well as the era in which he wrote, which was the
Age of Enlightenment. Be sure to cite your sources of information.
The Age of Enlightenment occurred from the 1620s until the 1780s. This movement began in
England, and steadily spread almost worldwide before long. The term Enlightenment was used to
contrast the Dark Ages, a time in which innovation and free thinking was at an all time low. Voltaire
s French philosophy included free thinking and the struggle for defense of civil liberties, in which
he uses almost every known literary form, including novels, poetry, and performance art such as
plays. His intellectual skepticism of traditional beliefs and dogmas denotes an illumined contrast to
the supposed dark and superstitious character of the Middle Ages.

these literary forms can be found in the form of religion, for example when the Catholic Inquisitor

The Credit Card Act For Young Consumers
In May 2009, President Obama stated, The credit card act was intended to uphold basic standards
of fairness, transparency, and accountability (Lindow). Is this to say that credit card companies
were deliberately deceiving consumers to capitalize on profits? Unfortunately, the answer is yes:
profit was not the concern of this act, as the banks had abnormally high profit margins. What was
in question, however, was the approach of generating these favorable profits for banks (Warren).
The Credit Cardact provides protection for young consumers with specific provisions such as: fix
interestrates, 21 day grace period, the right to opt out of adverse changes in terms, a 21 year age
requirement and clearer agreements for transparency.
Each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a gigantic issue, as creditors knew for certain; a majority of young applicants would max
out their credit cards making redundant purchases. In addition, they were more than likely going to
default on their debt, as they did not have jobs or enough disposable income to cover the debt they
accumulated. This was a magnificent win for young consumers, as they would no longer have an
option to give into their temptations and impulses to buy items they frankly didn t need, let alone
couldn t afford. This still leaves room for debate, as those temptations still remain after the age of
18. Unfortunately, because of the change, creditors lost a huge chunk of young clients.
Now let s focus on three really important provisions that address: fixed rates, terms and credit
card fees. Creditors use to be able to change the APR within a blink of an eye and consumers,
were not informed or did not have the ability to opt out of the plan. Fortunately, consumers now
have protection that allows them to have a fixed annual rate on their debt (Credit Card Act,
Section Sec. 103). When a credit card agreement states that the APR is fixed, the rate must not
vary or change over a specified period. There is only one exception, which is as follows: a rate can
be subject to change if, a lender begins to make late payments or miss payments completely
(Detweiler). Thanks to high interest rates that compounded rapidly, small addition charges turned
into enormous debt that could not

The Future of Genetic Enhancement Essay
Genetic enhancement appears to be inevitable since technology is making a rapid turn towards
genetic enhancement. Because of this fact, concerns over how beneficial or harmful genetic
enhancement would be in the future have arisen. We, as a society, need to analyze both sides and
decide for ourselves whether we should support the progression of genetic enhancement or do
everything in our power to stall or halt it.
Genetic enhancement refers to the use of genetic engineering to modify a person s nonpathological
human traits. This concept is aimed at improving the quality of life of humans. Baylis and Robert
suggest that, using genetic enhancement, a person could make a physical alternation like
increasing muscle mass or slowing down the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benefits from genetic enhancements are widespread. These benefits are evident in physical,
intellectual, psychological, and even moral enhancements. One of these benefits is undesired
inherited conditions which can be eliminated through genetic enhancement. Some parents believe
they should have the choice of preventing inherited diseases from being passed on from one
generation to the next. Most of these parents also want to make informed reproductive choices
without outside pressures (Iredale, Longley, Thomas, Shaw, 2006). With this physical
enhancement, parents could get rid of all the traits they are concerned about and end up with
healthy, disease free children. Baylis and Robert suggest that a physical enhancement that could be
considered beneficial is reducing sleep dependence (2004). A procrastinating undergraduate
student who needs to study for a final or write a term paper could use this enhancement for their
own benefit. Military personnel could have the opportunity to conduct more missions and with
better precision if they are not sleep deprived. Surgeons would be able to perform surgeries more
frequently and with greater accuracy. As a society, reducing sleep dependence would push us
toward accomplishing more and greater objectives that otherwise would be impossible because of
the amount of time we spend sleeping. Baylis and Robert also argue that psychological and moral
enhancements could be beneficial to our society. With genetic

Romanticism In The Devil And Tom Walker
William Shakespeare, one of the most prominent writers in the English language, compared life
with nature through his statement, And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in
trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in the stones, and good in everything. As Shakespeare
brings forth a parallel between life and the nature world, he uses romanticismcharacteristics to
exemplifies his purpose. This technique translates to The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington
Irving and The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Romanticism
characteristic are displayed within the previous tittles through awe of nature, and interest in the
common man. To begin, in the short story The Devil and Tom Walker , awe of nature is used to
convey both the mood and meaning of the narrative. Irving creates a setting that is dark in spirt as
Tom Walker makes his way through the woods. In this excerpt, the reader can visualize Walker s
surroundings through the natural pessimistic atmosphere of the woods,
The swamp was thickly grown with great gloomy pines and hemlocks, some of them ninety feet
high; which made it dark at noonday, and a retreat for all the owls of the neighborhood. It was full
of pits and quagmires, partly covered with weeds and mosses; where the green surface often
betrayed the
Bakke 2 traveler into a gulf of black smothering mud; there were also dark and stagnant pools, the
abodes of the tadpole, the bull frog, and the water snake, and where trunks of pines and hemlocks
lay half drowned, half rotting, looking like alligators, sleeping in the mire. (Irving 2)
In this passage, nature is portrayed as ominous and foreboding. There is a slight hint of death within
the abeyance of the forest. This is shown by the half drowned and half rotting trees. This creates a
complex connection between Walker and his surroundings. The intertwine of corruption and
immorality is shown through the vile aspects of the various pants and animals that live within the
woods. As Walker trudges along, the ongoing wicked display of the forest pushes the reader s
emotions into an unsettling state. Intern, foreshadowing Walker s sinful decisions when he
encounters a forbidding force, the devil. Thus,

Earnings And Profit Essay
Earnings and profit are related, but not exactly the same. They are different in the terms of how
they are calculated. Earnings and profit calculations are often used to determine the financial health
of a business. They are typically used in reporting business income to tax authorities as well. New
business owners usually make mistakes, they want to see the large number of sales on financial
statements, if the number of sales is high they think they operate good, but they should actually
look at how much they are profiting.
Earnings are the single most studied number in a company s financial statement because they show
a company s profitability. Earnings are the income a business earns, which can be calculated after

Any profit that is gained goes to the business s owners, who may or may not decide to spend it on
the business. A company may have an impressive amount of earnings but have very little profit. It

Profit before tax (PBT) is a profitability measure that looks at a company s profits before the
company has to pay corporate income tax. This measure deducts all expenses from revenue
including interest expenses and operating expenses, but it leaves out the payment of tax. Profit
before tax provides investment analysts with useful information for evaluating a company s
operating performance without tax implications. PBT exists because tax expense is constantly
changing and taking it out helps to give an investor a good idea of changes in a company s profits
or earnings from year to year.

How To Gain Power In Lord Of The Flies
Order is the most common and favorable tool when leading others, but there are different, more
manipulative ways to gain leadership. Order or charisma are sometimes not necessary to become

with the complication of organizing themselves. Jack is in competition to gain leadershipwith the

Ralph calls for an assembly to discuss what the boys have to do on the island. Jack then gets into

the start of his rise to his dictatorial rule over the boys. Jack uses him leaving to gain followers
to have authority, which leads to his misuse of power. Jack has the boys think he is a better
chief than Ralph by saying he can do different things as a chief than what Ralph has done as
chief. Before Jack s rise in power, Jack further rejects order to become a dictatorial chief by
breaking the rules of the island. The boys decide that they need a way to signal passing ships
and go to the mountain to make a signal fire and Jack decides that. Jack rebels order by going
against current rules in place through manipulating the order of the conch and says that the
conch doesn t count on top of the mountain (Golding 42). Jack breaking the rule of the person
holding the conch further adds to his motivation to be a dictatorial chief, because he is not
following rules which leads to him to be a dictatorial chief. Jack would then misuse his power and
not enstate rules as a chief. Jack aspires to be a dictatorial chief through rejecting the order of the

The Value Of Enterprise And Trade
Today s economy was founded upon the fundamentals of capitalism and continues to find its
strength in the presence of freedom of enterprise and trade. Regulation and taxes are vital in order

Heuristic Thinking Is The Refined Mental Process People...
Heuristic thinking is the refined mental process people use when faced with an alternative. Such
decisions are typically made quickly and unconsciously. Quickly making a decision without
thinking through every detail can be advantageous but it can lead to biases and inconsistencies.
There are four common biases caused by heuristics; relative comparisons, availability,
representativeness, and affective. The first bias, relative comparison, is when people criticize
based off of correlation or affiliation. Strictly speaking, a person will form their conclusion
around comparing their condition to the similar conditions of others. Relative correlation is
constructed of a system of anchors and framing. Anchoring is when a person takes easily
accessible information and reasonably bases their decision within the parameters of that
information. People will tend to base their answers depending on how the question was
constructed. For example, if someone was asked whether the US population was above or
below a hundred million, they would more than likely give a smaller population size then if they
were asked if the population of the US was above or below seven hundred million. Framing is
when a person bases their decision on either the loss or gain to be held from a possible outcome of
a decision. As such, person is typically more concerned about repercussions rather than the actually
benefits of a decision. Second is availability heuristic, which is basing a decision off of

Monopolies Dbq
Up until the 1880s, the United States economy followed the policy of laissez faire (the idea that the
government should have no involvement in the economy), and this led to competition which led to
good prices of goods for the average consumer. However with the growth of many large companies
that controlled the market, prices of goods raised due to the lack of competition. With consumers
becoming frustrated and prices constantly rising, the government was forced to regulate the control
of monopolies in the market. The railroad monopolies were the first to be targeted by the
government. Small customers and businesses were taking huge hits from the outrageous
overcharge and prices set by the monopolies. State legislatures attempted to fix this issue creating
maximum rate laws, however the Supreme Court would later rule these state laws as
unconstitutional in Munn v. Illinois. This ruling further enraged the public as many of these

focused Kishawn and I will receive the position that I desired. That is exactly what I did
presenting my speech with putting my personality all throughout the speech because I know how
to use my personality and comedy I had the audience laughing with tasteful jokes that I had in my
speech but making sure my plans for upcoming school year was believable and clear. I felt that I
got a positive reaction from the one s who were deciding who would get the position. At the end of
the week, there was an ASB meeting announcing the winning candidates. I was nervous but I knew
I did my best. The meeting started at three o clock, not a minute early nor a minute late. You can see
nervous faces all around the room. I made casual conversation with the ones around me to cut the
tension. Announcing

History of R. Buckminister Fuller Essay
History of R. Buckminister Fuller
Fuller was most famous for his geodesic domes, which can be seen as part of military radar stations,
civic buildings, and exhibition attractions. Their construction is based on extending some basic
principles to build simple tensegrity structures (tetrahedron, octahedron, and the closest packing of
spheres). Built in this way they are extremely lightweight and stable. The patent for geodesic
domes was awarded in 1954, part of Fuller s decades long efforts to explore nature s constructing
principles to find design solutions.
Previously, Fuller had designed and built prototypes of what he hoped would be a safer,
aerodynamic Dymaxion Car ( Dymaxion is contracted from DYnamic MAXimum tensION). To this

In 1943, industrialist Henry J. Kaiser asked Fuller to develop a prototype for a smaller car, and
Fuller designed a five seater; the car never went into the development or production stages.
Another of Fuller s ideas was the alternative projection Dymaxion Map. This was designed to show
the Earth s continents with minimum distortion when projected or printed on a flat surface.
Fuller s energy efficient and low cost Dymaxion houses garnered much interest, but have never
gone into production. Here the term Dymaxion is used in effect to signify a radically strong and
light tensegrity structure . One of Fuller s Dymaxion Houses is on display as a permanent
exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Designed and developed in the mid
1940s, this prototype is a round structure (though not a dome) shaped something like the flattened
bell of certain jellyfish. It has several other innovative features, including revolving dresser
drawers, and a fine mist shower that reduces water consumption. According to Fuller biographer
Steve Crooks, the house was designed to be delivered in two cylindrical packages, with interior
color panels available at local dealers premises. A circular structure at the top of the house was
designed to rotate around a central mast to take advantage of natural winds for cooling and air
circulation.

Role Of Community In Mim Udovich s A Secret Society Of The...
Community
A community is a group of people interacting in a meaningful way with regard to something they
share in common. It used to be that a community, in order to function as a group and interact, had
to be in the same geographic location or at least within driving distance. Since the internet has now
become so widely available we find that people with common interests and goals are reaching
across vast distances to interact with each other. There is even language translation software
available that can translate other languages into one s own. These have begun to break down
previous barriers such as distance and language but even cultural barriers may become a thing of
the past. In Mim Udovich s A Secret Society of the Starving, the author describes a communitythat
meets online to share feelings about their eating disorders. In Shari Caudron s Befriending Barbie,
the author writes of her experience at a Barbie convention. Not only are online communities
functioning in almost every way as a cohesive group, but they have the potential to transcend
distance, language and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Shari is acquainted with some of the other convention women, Debie tells Sharie how the
Barbie community has helped her. When her son was killed, her friends didn t know what to say
and dropped out of her life. Her friends in the online Barbie community did just the opposite.
They encouraged her by sending her letters, care packages, and raising money for charity in her
son s name. She tells Sharie, I am so blessed. This is the closest circle of friends I ve ever had
(Cauldron 173). Debie s online community was able to offer much more support and compassion
than her physical community. This is because the online world lacks the awkwardness of face to
face relationships, which in this case, was only amplified by the devastating circumstance as the

Michigan State University Scholarship Essay
First, I would like to thank the organizations responsible for funding this research work, including
Michigan State University for travel funding supports, and National Institute of Health (NIH) for
research funding. I greatly appreciate the investments made by the organizations in my
development as a scientist. My undergraduate education at Ocean Universityof China (OUC) laid a
solid foundation for my scientific career. With the abundant researchfunding provided by OUC, I
was able to start real scientific research when I was a sophomore, and I gradually recognized my
interest and potential in research, which served as the initial motivation to continue my education
in a graduate school. The knowledge, skills and scientific habits I acquired from these research
experiences also facilitate my graduate study.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This Boy S Life Practice Essay
6. It is Jack s lack of a stable, male role model that is to blame for his actions. To what extent do
you agree?
Tobias Wolff s memoir, This Boy s Life , explores the idea that an individual s actions can be
altered due to the people they are exposed to. The protagonist Jack Wolff lives an impressionable
life where he undergoes somewhat of a dilemma in relations to his actions, being incapable of
changing for the greater good of himself. The absence of a proper male role model plays a large
role on Jack s actions, though is definitely not the only reason. Jack s actions are influenced by
Rosemary s abusive and power craving ex husband Roy, as well as Dwight s violent and arrogant
personality. However, Jack is also responsible for his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following this quote, Wolff uses an author intrusion when he brings forward the fact that over
time the innocence [he] laughed at began to irritate [him]. Wolff s intrusion brings to light the
foolishness of his actions which he had caught from a lousy role model. Wolff presents the idea
that Power can be enjoyed only when it is recognized and feared , and that power can make an
individual undertake actions they normally wouldn t. Jack s association with an abusive man such
as Roy shows that Jack has been influenced by Roy s unjust habits, and that he is to blame in terms
of the actions that Jack chooses to undertake.
INCOMPLETE: Similarly, Dwight s abusive and violent traits have an impact on Jack, and the
actions that he undertakes. Chameleon like identity
On the contrary, Jack chooses how to act regardless of his role models, meaning that he can be
held accountable for his own actions. From the beginning of the memoir Jack is depicted as an
immature child whose dream it was to transform into someone different. Jack s dreams of
transformation get further and further from reality predominantly due to how he decides to act
and the people he chooses to spend his time with. Jack is responsible for his own actions as he is
the one who actually decides how he acts. A moment in the memoire where Jack s delinquency is
depicted is when Jack states that [he] was a thief.

The Behavior Modification Helps A Child With Separation...
Introduction
ABA offers many techniques to help people overcome and/or deal with everyday activities such
as helping someone to quit smoking, help with building relationships, personality disorders and
the ability to express one s self. ABA when applied to children will address the child s life in
areas that include; social skills, cognitive skills, self help, play and motor skills, and behavioral
needs. ABA in the workplace can be used to increase desired behaviors and decrease undesired
behaviors through use of positive and negative reinforcements.
In the Case of Emily and that of Mr. Smith I will attempt to go over how Behavior modification can
help a child with Separation anxiety behaviors and a company owner having difficulties with ...

Separation Anxiety can be defined as crying, clinging, tantruming, complaining when having to
separate from parent(s); sleep difficulties and refusal of going to school.
A commonly used diagnostic interview for the assessment of SAD is the Screen for Child Anxiety
Related Emotional Disorders Revised (SCARED R). The SCARED R contains 66 items measuring
all DSM IV anxiety disorders occurring in children and adolescents, including 8 items assessing
SAD specifically (Ehrenreich, Santucci, Weiner, 2009).
Children exhibiting SAD symptoms become significantly distressed when separated from their
home or attachment figure (usually a parent) and will often take measures to avoid separation. This
fear is exhibited through disproportionate and persistent worry about separation, including
apprehension about harm befalling a parent or the child when they are not together, as well as fear
that the parent will leave and never return. Avoidance behaviors commonly associated with SAD
include clinging to parents, crying or tantruming, and refusal to participate in activities that require
separation (e.g., play dates, camp, sleepovers). (Ehrenreich, Santucci, Weiner, 2009).
Inadvertent reinforcement is unintentional act of rewarding a bad behavior. In Emily s case her
parents may have inadvertently reinforced Emily s

Graffiti As A Form Of Art Essay
Art is an evolutionary act. The shape of art and its role in society is constantly changing. At no
point is art static. There are no rules (Raymond Harmon). In 1966 a man named Cornbread was
the first known person to ever create a piece of art called graffiti and tagging it. Later, people
started tagging subways, and everyone wanted to have their own unique tag. So, they started to
become creative and become different from each other. Now it has evolved over several years and
become something beautiful and eye opening, something that means the world to people without
saying a single word. This something is known as graffiti. An article written by Mark Halsey Alison
Young, brings to light the complex and creative aspects of graffiti... Show more content on

By doing graffiti children have a way to feel special and connected to the world. Nothing else
matters, not even the fact that they are poor or have a bad family situation. These children need
something to focus on, to take their minds off of the cruel things in life and to focus on the
amazing things in life.
Not many pedestrians appreciate graffiti. They think that it is vandalism because it can be done
anywhere from an abandoned office building to a blank wall at a car wash. This is valid, some
graffiti is vandalism, when people start writing foul language and trashing a famous or popular
place with this language. When property has been defaced without permission it is vandalism and
citizens come to be angry, because it costs the community money to clean up the graffiti. that
money could be used in other ways to help the community. Tens of millions of taxpayer dollars are
being spent annually on cleaning up graffiti and repairing the damage that it causes ( Crime ). The
community is angry because the money being spent on cleaning up the graffiti could be spent on
other problems that could help the community. Vandalisms can also be dangerous considering the
locations that they are done at. For instance, the majority of people will vandalize along train tracks
and an accident could occur while being there. Graffiti can also affect the environment and your
own health. Because graffiti is done with spray

Dna Barcoding And Its Effects On The Malaysian Market
There is very little customers can do to ensure that they are purchasing the fish they are paying for.
Producers and restaurants owners have a tendency to mislabel their products for their own reasons.
The main reason is yet to be determined but there are researchers who have made it their goal to
resolve this dispute and show customers what they are truly buying. Too Chin Chin et al. attempt to
utilize the DNAbarcoding in the fish segment, to assess the frequency of fish mislabeling on the
Malaysian market (2015). DNA barcoding tries to standardize scientific classification by using
short, single DNA sequence, for example, part of the mitochondrial gene COI to distinguish
between species (Larson, 2007). The process begins with extracting DNA and using primers to
amplify COI regions from the DNA extracts via PCR. The sequences attained are compared to
the available sequences in Bold and GenBank databases to find the mislabeled products.
Similarly, a character based key can also be constructed to review the reference sequences for
variable nucleotides that can serve as diagnostics for the species you wish to study (Loweinstein,
2009). Along with Too Chin Chin et al., there are other researchers who based their study on the
same concept to find mislabeled seafood products in certain parts of the world. Dana Miller et al.
examined seafood fraud in two types of Whitefish in Europe. Although, the motivation for these
works are to find mislabeling in products using the standard

Phases Of Interrogation At The Most Comfortable
Phases of interrogation The first phase of the interrogation is to establish the norm. This is done
to determine the general behavior of the subject, as the goal is to establish the characteristics of
the subject at the most comfortable. As a result, the interviewer can then interpret the subject s
behavior and communication as the interrogation goes on. The second phase is to build
credibility. The interviewer describes his or her job and experiences, giving examples of situations
that are commonly encountered, and judges the subject s reactions along the way. The interviewer
s goal in building credibility is to convince the subject that he or she is caught of committing a
crime without stating any accusations or revealing evidence. The third phase is to create an
opportunity for the subject to save face and transfer blame. The interviewer guides the subject into
telling the truth. The goal is to make the subject feel better about admitting the truth by finding a
socially acceptable reason for being honest. The subject will feel better about telling the truth if he
or she feels that admitting what happened is better than being caught lying, and if the reason for
the crime was for non malicious reasons. The fourth phase is to establish a sense of urgency. In
this phase, the interviewer explains to the subject that he or she has a limited amount of time to tell
the company his or her side of the story. The interviewer explains that the company may make a

Career Options And Qualifications Of The Certified
Business certifications attest to the expertise and qualifications of the certified. They offer a chance
of higher pay while serving to elevate professional status with a title of distinction within a specific
field of study. While each certification has many benefits each one comes with a set of costs and
requirements. These often hefty certification requirements accompany a costly exam and expensive
study materials that can potentially set an applicant back in both time and money. Many of these
business certification fields cover broad topics such as Accounting, Financial Planning, and
Economics.
Accountants aspiring to have more career options and to move up the corporate ladder should
become a Certified Public Accountant. This certification speaks to the knowledge, credentials and
overall ability of the certified and will command the respect of employers and peers ( How
Much Does it Cost to Become a CPA? ). For those aspiring to become corporate level managers
or partners in a firm, a CPA is required due to the prestige and respect that accompanies it
(NASBA). Even minor promotions and raises are much easier with the CPA certification.
Accountants who also desire higher pay should pursue the this certification. According to the 2015
Robert Half Salary Guide, CPAs can earn between 5% and 15% more than their non credentialed
counterparts (NASBA).
To pursue this certification in Wisconsin, candidates that are ready to test should apply through the
NASBA website, which

Integrity In Treasure Island
In Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, Jim Hawkins develops a growing sense of integrity
and eventual ability to do what is morally right, no matter what the personal cost. Jim goes from
behaving like a kid ready for an adventure out at sea to an independent person understanding the ups
and downs of the journey and understanding struggle. In the beginning of the novel, Jim becomes
very excited, not thinking about the many troubles he may run into. All he wants rise to have the
freedom to take control and play a part as lead unlike in the Admiral Benbow. After waiting for a
long time, one evening, Squire Trelawney sent a letter telling Jim about the new crew of pirates,

bundle... too weak to bear the light (147). Then Jim really gets involved in sailing and turns
around by instinct, only to find Hands ready to strike with a long knife, or rather a short dirk
(146). Then Jim strikes back, even though to Jim, it will always be wrong to injure someone, but
Jim has to save his own life. During this life changing moment of a fight Jim narrates, I lost no
time in changing the priming of my pistol, and then, having one ready for service, and to make
assurance doubly sure, I proceeded to draw the load of the other, and recharge it afresh from the
beginning (151). This illustrates how Jim is willing to shoot Hands with his two pistols to save his

Martin Luther King Charismatic People
I can prove that MLK was one of the best charismatic people of his time. Did you know that
Martin Luther King JR was shot and killed in a hotel in Memphis? Martin Luther King is one of
the best motivators of his time, with words like, don t judge someone by the color of their skin,
but by the actions that they choose to make. MLK (Martin Luther King JR) was a shooting star,
that actually makes dreams come true, you only see that once in a lifetime. First, MLK was one
of those people who knew education like it was the back of their hand. Notwithstanding, if it
wasn t for his speeches we would be right where we were before he made his speeches, race
against race. In the end, he had the confidence to lead him into these speeches and no one could
take that, sure he was a Negro that does not mean that he doesn t have the charisma, the
education, as a White person. MLK made a difference, so can you. Those are some reasons why
MLK was and will forever be, one of the best inspirers, he shows differences, he is smart, he is
charismatic, he simply is a, owl, a cat hunting, a dolphin having its jumps in life, he was the
dream maker, a huge impact on racism, he wanted to make sure that the people, you and me,
would be together, knowing that someone in life had sacrificed so much to get you where you are
today. Conversely, Martin Luther King was one of the best in his time Negro or not. The King
children all took piano lessons from their mother. They also enjoyed playing

  • 2. The Importance Of Creative Games Happy birthday, kiddo, said my big brother Paul. My brother always had a tendency to smile, even though he wasn t the most appealing, with crooked teeth, glasses, and black hair sticking out all over. I opened the card, read the cute little message, (I m forced to think it was some sort of pun, I can t remember.) and the golden sheen of an American Express gift card did the first thing I decided to do was hug my brother. Of course, what I did with this card was what I wanted to do since the last time I was at my brother s house: get a new game, BlazBlue: Chronophantasma Extend . And I did, after waiting for the game to install, looking up character biographies, and figuring out how to pronounce the character names. My first instinct... Too bad it went by faster than a lightning bolt. In the second round, I had a tougher time, but I knew what to do against the beast, so it evens out. What I did was a concept called dominant strategy: Once you discover something that is good, you re always going to use that thing. The strategy was press Jump, then A or B on the controller. Jump, A or B, Jump, A or B, again, and again, and again. However, when his health meter was very low, the beast let out a giant laser beam. The character that I was controlling was unfortunately defeated. I had the urge to throw something. OK, that was just one loss. No need to scream about it, said a voice in my head. And so, after a day, and a nice warm shower, I decided to finish the job, and, thanks to indomitable spirit, I won. Or, at least, for the second round. But the battle wasn t over yet. No breather this time. Just right into the fight as Ragna. And boy, is this going to be fun or what? I asked myself, oozing with sarcasm. Ugh. Its main objective is improving economic efficiency, especially labor productivity. It was one of the earliest attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and to management (3). He believed this could greatly increase the effectiveness with which a company runs. To apply his solution, Taylor created planning departments, staffed them with engineers, and gave them the responsibility to: 1. Develop scientific methods for doing work. 2. Establish goals for productivity. 3. Establish systems of rewards for meeting the goals. 4. Train the personnel in how to use the methods and thereby meet the goals. In theory, providing the workers an insight into the goals set out by the company and providing them a suitable and healthy environment along with teaching them the latest techniques could really help a company to work its way towards its desired goals. The workers should be kept together as a group and treated fairly with promotions and appreciation whenever the company does good in the market. • 5. Eliot s Influences On Literature Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot s Influences On Literature The nineteenth and twentieth century were pivotal times in the world of literature. Many new elements of writing and style were evolving and authors all over the world were finding ways to present what they felt most passionate about. Some writers opened their readers up to newer ideas by the means of, as Ezra Pound once stated, making it new. Two writers in particular who did a fantastic job of this were Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot. Frederick Douglass s most popular work is his autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. In this story, Douglass makes romanticism new. On the contrast, T.S. Elliot is widely known for his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, in which he makes new of imagery. While Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot come from completely different backgrounds and write with different styles, they share a few commonalities as well as both being influences on literary society. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland around the supposed year of 1818. Like many other slaves, his exact date of birth remains unknown. Douglass was an abolitionist for slavery as well as a supporter for women s rights. Due to his works and accomplishments, it is obvious that Douglass was a major contributor to the literary tradition of American Romanticism. After escaping slavery, Frederick Douglass wrote his most famous autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the first read, Durant simply putting his watch and ring on the dashboard of the downed helicopter does not seem like an incredible act, but it is considering that it was his first reaction when he came to after the crash. Durant is an interesting character because he reacts in a harsh manner, and then calms himself by doing something that gives himself a normal type of feeling. While he himself could not explain why he took off his watch and ring, I think it was because it was symbolic of him giving up in a sense. Not necessarily in a life and death way, but as in accepting the situation and simply allowing the fact that the helicopter just crashed settle in his mind, rather than panicking and taking immediate action. This is relevant because it marks the point where Durant is admitting that he needs help through his actions, which is important in order to convey how serious the crash ... I believe these subjects are necessary for a well rounded education, and as a math teacher, I will be teaching one of these basic subjects. I do not believe there should be a curriculum that excludes one form or another of math. It is important for our students to know math and these other basic subjects if we want to be able to compete with the rest of the world economically and technologically. Not only must students sit in a class where these subjects are taught, but they also need to master the material before they move on to the next grade. This is the job of the teacher. It is up to the teacher to make sure that his students understand the material and can do it on their own before he moves on to something else. I believe that the grade a student makes reflects the teacher. If a student makes an F, the teacher has failed in his teaching of that student. This does not mean that the teacher should make his class easy. I still agree with the essentialist that academic rigor is an essential component of education. However, I do not agree that this necessitates a great amount of homework. The level of work can be tough and stretch the minds of the students, but if the teacher is able to teach his students well in class and they comprehend the material and can practice it during the class period, I do not think a lot of homework ... In spite of sharing multiple aspects culture, language, and history there is not a single standard culture that distinguishes the region. One aspect of Latin American culture, regarding foreign policy, is a prevalent respect for the norm of sovereignty and non intervention. There exists a strong disposition to follow international law as a means to prevent war or at the very least ward off potential intervention by extraregional powers. Although there may be a sense of preferential treatment for some strategies, Latin American countries are not inherently bound to a specific development scheme. The Legalistic Nature of Latin America Legalism as a cornerstone of Latin American norms has effectively shaped the relationship between how these states relate to each other and the world. According to Arie Kacowicz, it was considered honorable for a country to meet its lawful commitments not divorced from considerations of national interests such as prestige and reputation. When a region s identity relies so much on traditional legacies, the trend is to lean towards the accepted norms that culturally tie the region. In its simplest terms, norms are standards of behavior or laws that oversee the behavior of a societal block. These challenges are not clearly defined and different types of challenges, who typify diverse cultural, political social systems, arise from a complex and dynamic world. Cross cultural Leadership , Ethical Leadership, and Change Leadership had been identified as the most relevant ones concerning the case study. In terms of increasing globalisation, there is the need and necessity for managers to be aware and more importantly to understand different cultures and hence to be successful in world of high cultural connection. Culture demonstrates shared values and attitudes. It cannot be only classified by its geographical boundaries but also by a subcultural, e.g. gender, ethnic and an organisational context and is influenced by historical, social and political issues (Cavusgil, Knight and Riesenberger, 2008). The impact of the British on the Indian business culture is reflected in the well educated Indian bureaucracy and the fact that English is taught in schools. • 15. Lofty Diction In The Life Of St Degory Saint Gregory of Nyssa opens his narrative The Life of St. Macrina, with a justification as to why he is documenting accounts of St. Macrina s life. St. Gregory, St. Macrina s brother, sets out to create a narrative that is both artless and simple , but rather, we receive a rich, detailed expression of admiration and praise (77). According to St. Gregory, Macrina was the spiritual leader in their family, using her knowledge of Scripture and philosophy to motivate her family and others to cast off the illusion of a material life. With a wealth of knowledge and the ability to persuade others, Macrina rose to the position of Superior. Saint Gregory, in his work The Life of St. Macrina, utilizes lofty diction, tone, and a clear characterization of Macrina, which enables us to see how through Christianity, women of the 3rd century had the freedom to establish an identity outside of the secular, patriarchal world, and what levels of respect that identity yielded. St. Gregory s use of lofty diction is apparent when he describes their mother s character. By using lofty diction such as extremely virtuous, exceptionally pure, and spotless, it is obvious St. Gregory holds his mother in high esteem, even though she was not a handmaid for the church like Macrina (77). Moreover, if these are the words he chooses when describing his mother, we can see why his word choice is lofty for Macrina, who held the respected position of Superior later in her life. • 17. Character Analysis of Sir Toby Belch in ShakespeareВ ґs... Comedy is by far the most influential factor in deciding whether or not a story is entertaining to its audience, due to its ability to create a more relaxed and pleasurable environment in the plot. From the playful awkwardness of Anne Shirley, to the witty banter of detectives Tommy and Tuppence, it is evident that comedic characters have always been appreciated and acknowledged in literature. Sir Toby Belch is but one of many amusing characters, and is by far one of the most humorous. While Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is surrounded around an issue of romantic entanglement, Sir Toby s very presence is enough to lighten the mood and accentuate the comedic theme of the story through his creation of problems and unique personality.... This is one of the most amusing scenes in the play, followed by Belch s famous attempt at getting Sir Andrew to accost Olivia s chamber maid; Maria which resulted in utter confusion. In addition, Sir Toby also delivers several witty and comedic comments to divert the attention from a supposedly serious love affair between Malvolio and Olivia to the events taking place behind the ever famous box tree. Here s an overweening rouge (II v 27) and O for a stone bow to hit him in the eye! (II v 43) are samples of the remarks made by Sir Toby while he observes Malvolio in hiding. Although all these examples were mere results of a drunken night or craving for fun on Sir Toby s part, as an audience they were received as cheerful moments in the play that amended their attention from the surrounding melancholy. It also demonstrates his unique capability to amuse onlookers no matter how intense a situation is, and trumps his unappealing and carefree attitude. Furthermore, another of the countless reasons why Sir Toby Belch is the most enjoyable character in Twelfth Night is pertaining to his whimsical and absurd personality that is like none other s in the play. Hitler then created the Nuremberg Laws, which slowly but successfully stripped the Jews of all their rights and made them second class citizens in Germany. The Jews slowly became, in the eyes of the German people and the SS, people who could be consciously oppressed and turned into slave workers. Obviously nothing justifies the heinous treatment of Jews in concentration camps, but Levi gives us reasons why he believed the SS were able to treat Jews in this way. He believed that the prisoner s appearance after a few days, dirty and repugnant, could have been a source of the terrible treatment; it is much easier to oppress those who look almost inhuman. Levi also believed the treatment was just another way to prove racial superiority. The ability to completely suppress and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Age Of Enlightenment By Voltaire 1.Do some research on Voltaire and his beliefs as well as the era in which he wrote, which was the Age of Enlightenment. Be sure to cite your sources of information. The Age of Enlightenment occurred from the 1620s until the 1780s. This movement began in England, and steadily spread almost worldwide before long. The term Enlightenment was used to contrast the Dark Ages, a time in which innovation and free thinking was at an all time low. Voltaire s French philosophy included free thinking and the struggle for defense of civil liberties, in which he uses almost every known literary form, including novels, poetry, and performance art such as plays. His intellectual skepticism of traditional beliefs and dogmas denotes an illumined contrast to the supposed dark and superstitious character of the Middle Ages. http://www.pbs.org/faithandreason/gengloss/enlight body.html 2.Satire is a literary genre in which human vices, folly, and flaws are ridiculed or mocked, often with the intention bringing about change. How do Voltaire use techniques such as irony, sarcasm, and understatement for his satirical purposes? Give some examples from throughout the book. Voltaire uses irony and satire in many different situations during the story. • 24. The Credit Card Act For Young Consumers In May 2009, President Obama stated, The credit card act was intended to uphold basic standards of fairness, transparency, and accountability (Lindow). Is this to say that credit card companies were deliberately deceiving consumers to capitalize on profits? Unfortunately, the answer is yes: profit was not the concern of this act, as the banks had abnormally high profit margins. What was in question, however, was the approach of generating these favorable profits for banks (Warren). In addition, they were more than likely going to default on their debt, as they did not have jobs or enough disposable income to cover the debt they accumulated. This was a magnificent win for young consumers, as they would no longer have an option to give into their temptations and impulses to buy items they frankly didn t need, let alone couldn t afford. This still leaves room for debate, as those temptations still remain after the age of 18. Unfortunately, because of the change, creditors lost a huge chunk of young clients. Now let s focus on three really important provisions that address: fixed rates, terms and credit card fees. Creditors use to be able to change the APR within a blink of an eye and consumers, were not informed or did not have the ability to opt out of the plan. Fortunately, consumers now have protection that allows them to have a fixed annual rate on their debt (Credit Card Act, Section Sec. 103). When a credit card agreement states that the APR is fixed, the rate must not vary or change over a specified period. There is only one exception, which is as follows: a rate can be subject to change if, a lender begins to make late payments or miss payments completely (Detweiler). Benefits from genetic enhancements are widespread. These benefits are evident in physical, intellectual, psychological, and even moral enhancements. One of these benefits is undesired inherited conditions which can be eliminated through genetic enhancement. Some parents believe they should have the choice of preventing inherited diseases from being passed on from one generation to the next. Most of these parents also want to make informed reproductive choices without outside pressures (Iredale, Longley, Thomas, Shaw, 2006). With this physical enhancement, parents could get rid of all the traits they are concerned about and end up with healthy, disease free children. Romanticism In The Devil And Tom Walker William Shakespeare, one of the most prominent writers in the English language, compared life with nature through his statement, And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in the stones, and good in everything. As Shakespeare brings forth a parallel between life and the nature world, he uses romanticismcharacteristics to exemplifies his purpose. Romanticism characteristic are displayed within the previous tittles through awe of nature, and interest in the common man. To begin, in the short story The Devil and Tom Walker , awe of nature is used to convey both the mood and meaning of the narrative. Irving creates a setting that is dark in spirt as Tom Walker makes his way through the woods. In this excerpt, the reader can visualize Walker s surroundings through the natural pessimistic atmosphere of the woods, The swamp was thickly grown with great gloomy pines and hemlocks, some of them ninety feet high; which made it dark at noonday, and a retreat for all the owls of the neighborhood. It was full of pits and quagmires, partly covered with weeds and mosses; where the green surface often betrayed the Bakke 2 traveler into a gulf of black smothering mud; there were also dark and stagnant pools, the abodes of the tadpole, the bull frog, and the water snake, and where trunks of pines and hemlocks lay half drowned, half rotting, looking like alligators, sleeping in the mire. (Irving 2) In this passage, nature is portrayed as ominous and foreboding. There is a slight hint of death within the abeyance of the forest. This is shown by the half drowned and half rotting trees. This creates a complex connection between Walker and his surroundings. The intertwine of corruption and immorality is shown through the vile aspects of the various pants and animals that live within the woods. As Walker trudges along, the ongoing wicked display of the forest pushes the reader s emotions into an unsettling state. • 38. Heuristic Thinking Is The Refined Mental Process People... Heuristic thinking is the refined mental process people use when faced with an alternative. Such decisions are typically made quickly and unconsciously. Quickly making a decision without thinking through every detail can be advantageous but it can lead to biases and inconsistencies. There are four common biases caused by heuristics; relative comparisons, availability, representativeness, and affective. The first bias, relative comparison, is when people criticize based off of correlation or affiliation. Strictly speaking, a person will form their conclusion around comparing their condition to the similar conditions of others. Relative correlation is constructed of a system of anchors and framing. Anchoring is when a person takes easily accessible information and reasonably bases their decision within the parameters of that information. People will tend to base their answers depending on how the question was constructed. For example, if someone was asked whether the US population was above or below a hundred million, they would more than likely give a smaller population size then if they were asked if the population of the US was above or below seven hundred million. Framing is when a person bases their decision on either the loss or gain to be held from a possible outcome of a decision. As such, person is typically more concerned about repercussions rather than the actually benefits of a decision. Second is availability heuristic, which is basing a decision off of ... Much like the Interstate Commerce it was not enforced at all. In fact it was used to help the railroad monopolies even more by regulating labor unions. The very pro business Supreme Court would rule that strikes violated the prohibition against a conspiracy in restraint of trade. In the act. This was the opposite intent of the act, and would not be properly enforced until the early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. History of R. Buckminister Fuller Essay History of R. Buckminister Fuller Fuller was most famous for his geodesic domes, which can be seen as part of military radar stations, civic buildings, and exhibition attractions. Their construction is based on extending some basic principles to build simple tensegrity structures (tetrahedron, octahedron, and the closest packing of spheres). Built in this way they are extremely lightweight and stable. The patent for geodesic domes was awarded in 1954, part of Fuller s decades long efforts to explore nature s constructing principles to find design solutions. Previously, Fuller had designed and built prototypes of what he hoped would be a safer, aerodynamic Dymaxion Car ( Dymaxion is contracted from DYnamic MAXimum tensION). To this ... Kaiser asked Fuller to develop a prototype for a smaller car, and Fuller designed a five seater; the car never went into the development or production stages. Another of Fuller s ideas was the alternative projection Dymaxion Map. This was designed to show the Earth s continents with minimum distortion when projected or printed on a flat surface. Fuller s energy efficient and low cost Dymaxion houses garnered much interest, but have never gone into production. Here the term Dymaxion is used in effect to signify a radically strong and light tensegrity structure . One of Fuller s Dymaxion Houses is on display as a permanent exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Designed and developed in the mid 1940s, this prototype is a round structure (though not a dome) shaped something like the flattened bell of certain jellyfish. It has several other innovative features, including revolving dresser drawers, and a fine mist shower that reduces water consumption. According to Fuller biographer Steve Crooks, the house was designed to be delivered in two cylindrical packages, with interior color panels available at local dealers premises. A circular structure at the top of the house was designed to rotate around a central mast to take advantage of natural winds for cooling and air circulation. The American Pavilion of Expo 67, by R. • 43. Role Of Community In Mim Udovich s A Secret Society Of The... Community A community is a group of people interacting in a meaningful way with regard to something they share in common. It used to be that a community, in order to function as a group and interact, had to be in the same geographic location or at least within driving distance. Since the internet has now become so widely available we find that people with common interests and goals are reaching across vast distances to interact with each other. There is even language translation software available that can translate other languages into one s own. These have begun to break down previous barriers such as distance and language but even cultural barriers may become a thing of the past. In Mim Udovich s A Secret Society of the Starving, the author describes a communitythat meets online to share feelings about their eating disorders. Tobias Wolff s memoir, This Boy s Life , explores the idea that an individual s actions can be altered due to the people they are exposed to. The protagonist Jack Wolff lives an impressionable life where he undergoes somewhat of a dilemma in relations to his actions, being incapable of changing for the greater good of himself. The absence of a proper male role model plays a large role on Jack s actions, though is definitely not the only reason. Jack s actions are influenced by Rosemary s abusive and power craving ex husband Roy, as well as Dwight s violent and arrogant personality. However, Jack is also responsible for his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Separation Anxiety can be defined as crying, clinging, tantruming, complaining when having to separate from parent(s); sleep difficulties and refusal of going to school. A commonly used diagnostic interview for the assessment of SAD is the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders Revised (SCARED R). The SCARED R contains 66 items measuring all DSM IV anxiety disorders occurring in children and adolescents, including 8 items assessing SAD specifically (Ehrenreich, Santucci, Weiner, 2009). Children exhibiting SAD symptoms become significantly distressed when separated from their home or attachment figure (usually a parent) and will often take measures to avoid separation. This fear is exhibited through disproportionate and persistent worry about separation, including apprehension about harm befalling a parent or the child when they are not together, as well as fear that the parent will leave and never return. Avoidance behaviors commonly associated with SAD include clinging to parents, crying or tantruming, and refusal to participate in activities that require separation (e.g., play dates, camp, sleepovers). (Ehrenreich, Santucci, Weiner, 2009). Inadvertent reinforcement is unintentional act of rewarding a bad behavior. In Emily s case her parents may have inadvertently reinforced Emily s ... Later, people started tagging subways, and everyone wanted to have their own unique tag. So, they started to become creative and become different from each other. These children need something to focus on, to take their minds off of the cruel things in life and to focus on the amazing things in life. Not many pedestrians appreciate graffiti. They think that it is vandalism because it can be done anywhere from an abandoned office building to a blank wall at a car wash. This is valid, some graffiti is vandalism, when people start writing foul language and trashing a famous or popular place with this language. When property has been defaced without permission it is vandalism and citizens come to be angry, because it costs the community money to clean up the graffiti. that money could be used in other ways to help the community. Tens of millions of taxpayer dollars are being spent annually on cleaning up graffiti and repairing the damage that it causes ( Crime ). The community is angry because the money being spent on cleaning up the graffiti could be spent on other problems that could help the community. • 48. Dna Barcoding And Its Effects On The Malaysian Market There is very little customers can do to ensure that they are purchasing the fish they are paying for. Producers and restaurants owners have a tendency to mislabel their products for their own reasons. The main reason is yet to be determined but there are researchers who have made it their goal to resolve this dispute and show customers what they are truly buying. Too Chin Chin et al. attempt to utilize the DNAbarcoding in the fish segment, to assess the frequency of fish mislabeling on the Malaysian market (2015). DNA barcoding tries to standardize scientific classification by using short, single DNA sequence, for example, part of the mitochondrial gene COI to distinguish between species (Larson, 2007). The process begins with extracting DNA and using primers to amplify COI regions from the DNA extracts via PCR. The sequences attained are compared to the available sequences in Bold and GenBank databases to find the mislabeled products. Similarly, a character based key can also be constructed to review the reference sequences for variable nucleotides that can serve as diagnostics for the species you wish to study (Loweinstein, 2009). Along with Too Chin Chin et al., there are other researchers who based their study on the same concept to find mislabeled seafood products in certain parts of the world. Dana Miller et al. examined seafood fraud in two types of Whitefish in Europe. Although, the motivation for these works are to find mislabeling in products using the standard ... This is done to determine the general behavior of the subject, as the goal is to establish the characteristics of the subject at the most comfortable. As a result, the interviewer can then interpret the subject s behavior and communication as the interrogation goes on. The second phase is to build credibility. The interviewer describes his or her job and experiences, giving examples of situations that are commonly encountered, and judges the subject s reactions along the way. The interviewer s goal in building credibility is to convince the subject that he or she is caught of committing a crime without stating any accusations or revealing evidence. The third phase is to create an opportunity for the subject to save face and transfer blame. The interviewer guides the subject into telling the truth. The goal is to make the subject feel better about admitting the truth by finding a socially acceptable reason for being honest. The subject will feel better about telling the truth if he or she feels that admitting what happened is better than being caught lying, and if the reason for the crime was for non malicious reasons. The fourth phase is to establish a sense of urgency.
