June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Sound and Liberal
Education.
In 1843 our founders declared their goal “to offer the country a sound and liberal education.”
To this day our primary focus remains delivering a broad-based education in an intimate
learning environment that encourages exploration and discovery. Located in the beautiful
Eastern Townships of Quebec, Bishop’s is an English University offering programs in
Business, Education, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities.
Learning at Bishop’s starts with a small group and a question.
With fewer than 2,500 students, we offer some of the smallest class sizes in the country.
You want to get to know your professors? No problem. You won’t be a number here.
We won’t let you. We provide our students with personalized attention. We listen.
We debate. We push students to expand their horizons. We believe in interdisciplinary
study, and in gaining a broad foundation of knowledge about the wider world.
Our students are empowered to deal with complexity, diversity, and change.
Choosing to study at Bishop’s means you are seeking an educational experience
that is going to be unique, exceptional, and transformational.

One thing’s for sure. You’re going to change a lot during your time here.
First year classes are all about introductions—to new subjects, to your professors
and to your peers. In many ways it’s an introduction to yourself—you’re about
to see what you’re made of. You’ll be hitting the books, and the material will
challenge you. Over time, you will be confident in your ability to form an argument,
write an excellent paper, and speak your mind.
Learning in a non-judgmental community is the best way to build one's identity
and to develop the confidence to try new things. That's why Bishop's students
have consistently rated their experience as amongst the most satisfying and most
engaging in Canada, and why they go on to do amazing things with their lives.
A lot of what happens here depends on you. Creating an academic environment where
you can grow and change depends on us.

Studying Business Administration at Bishop’s means a hands-on,
experiential business education. Solve real-life marketing dilemmas, devise innovative
solutions for local companies and start building your own business network, all while
studying in the Williams School of Business. Our case-format courses and seminars
as well as our interactive classroom settings provide a unique opportunity for students
to discover their strengths and transform their weaknesses as they hone their
presentation and writing skills in a supportive learning environment.
Students may work toward either a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) or
a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Business (B.A.). The B.B.A. program provides a
solid foundation in core business subjects but also allows students to gain specialized
knowledge in one of seven business concentrations. The B.A. program provides the
same foundation in core business subjects but allows students the flexibility to combine
their business studies with a major or minor in another field.
Who says you can’t mix
business with pleasure?
General Business
Management
Students will specialize in a broad
range of traditional business func-
tions such as research methods,
change management, interpersonal
skills, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Accounting
Learn how companies, investors and
governments compile, present, and
use financial information. Courses
such as managerial accounting,
taxation and auditing prepare you
to become a professional accountant
and provide the basis for a variety of
other business designations (C.I.M.,
C.B.I., etc.).
Entrepreneurship
Understand the entrepreneurial
process required to turn an innovative
idea into a new business venture -
a skill set with tremendous value
in the job market. Gain hands-on
experience with local entrepreneurs
through the Dobson-Lagassé
Entrepreneurship Centre on campus.
International Business
Combine your Business courses
with classes in political science,
international economics, and geo-
graphy to gain an understanding
of global organizational structures,
business strategies and management
practices. International Business
students go on exchange and take
courses in Modern Languages to
learn how to work with different
cultures, economies, currencies and
government policies and to gain
first-hand knowledge of current
challenges facing global managers.
Finance
Master the principles of financial
management and gain knowledge
of investment management, capital
budgeting, capital formation and
risk hedging. Prepare yourself
to pursue an exciting career
in corporate finance, banking,
portfolio management, securities
research and financial planning.
At Bishop’s you can complete the
courses required to qualify to write
the first level C.F.A. (Chartered
Financial Analyst) exams
immediately upon graduation.
Human Resources
Courses such as human resource
management, industrial relations,
training and development, and
organizational behaviour will
teach you how companies attract,
develop and maintain a competitive
workforce. Various options for
certification as a human resource
professional are available throughout
Canada for students who complete
this concentration.
Marketing
Study one of the fastest changing
and most innovative aspects of
the business world. Develop a
comprehensive understanding of
contemporary advertising and sales
techniques, as well as the socio-
environmental forces influencing
marketing activities.

Dr. Michael Teed
"Choosing a university is a lot
like finding the right job.
It's all about the fit."
As an industrial organizational psychologist,
Business professor Dr. Michael Teed loves to share
hispassionforhumanbehaviourintheworkplace.
"Bishop's is a place where the classroom is only
five rows deep. So when I introduce a theoretical
perspective on something like leadership, the
intimate environment really supports discussion."
Dr. Teed's newest initiative is harnessing this
classroom setting as an opportunity for group
learning with real-world, practical implications.
"One of the things student face when they leave
university and start looking for work is the
demand for work experience. I knew this was a
stressor and started to think about ways I could
address it in the classroom. I've been working on
a model to train students in résumé writing and
interview coaching, as well as HR consultation
for small businesses. They will then offer these
services to members of the community. It's a great
exercise in experiential learning.”
Dr. Michele Murray
"I came to teaching in the same way
I came to be an academic — driven by my love
of learning,"
explains Dr. Michele Murray, professor
of Religion and Dean of Arts and Science.
"While I was working on my Master’s degree
in Jewish history, becoming a professor in
a university wasn't on my radar. I actually
took a break half way through my degree
to pursue training as a commercial pilot. I
realized towards the end of that training that
I had reached a point where I would master
the crucial aspects of flying. The times that
would be exciting, would be emergencies—
times you don't want. I learned something
really important about myself. I didn't want
to arrive—I wanted to always be learning.
I feel that I am always learning from my
students. It's a joint effort in the classroom.
Students come with perspectives and insights
that have never occurred to me. I love how
my students are always stimulating me to
look at something in a different way."

Leave with your story.
In my first year as Principal, I addressed the entering
class. I shared with them my career as a lawyer,
community leader and newspaper publisher, and invited
students who were interested in such topics to visit my
office for further discussion. The next day, six students
arrived at my office door. This is the personal nature
of Bishop’s. It is truly education on a human scale.
I'm proud to watch students realize their potential,
whether on stage, in a classroom or as a member of one
of our varsity teams. This is a community bursting
with ambition, full of students who are capable and
willing to take on the challenges our world faces. Our
model of education provides them the tools to act,
the confidence to perform and the knowledge to ask the
right questions. In an increasingly complex world, our
most effective leaders will be those who can innovate
across disciplines. Students from across Canada and
aroundtheworldwillfindlearningatBishop’sconducive
to building lifelong friendships and to realizing their
future ambitions.
Education
on a human scale.
