Analytical Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement Accomplishments
• Analyzed Supplier data and identified significant component issue on a Brake Control Unit.
Spearheaded a team which resolved issue and prevented over 20% Field failures.
• Designed Experiment to qualify a new Mil-Spec replacement component for Supplier’s
Process, both rework and new build. Replacement component improved yield by 22%.
• Completed APQP requirements on military landing gear by documenting Process Flow Charts
and Cleaning Control Plans.
• Developed and implemented Procedure and Flowchart for First Article Inspection Procedure
which will add manufacturability requirement to the FAI Process.
• Directed activities of 8 engineers as Sustainment Technical Lead of a mission-critical guidance
instrument for the United States Air Force. First non-engineer to hold that position
• Developed a guidance and navigation gyro Reliability Model which was instrumental in
securing the first commercial contract for space application.
• Utilized Lean initiatives on a key instrument in the inertial guidance system of the Minute Man
III Weapon System, the results of which included a 300% improvement in instrument Mean
Time Between Failures (MTBF). Received 1 of 2 United States Air Force Award Fees issued that
year.
• Internal Lead Auditor for ISO 9000 and AS9100 compliance review and registration, both of
which were achieved on the first registration audit.
• Spearheaded development effort to utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) in Gyro Repair and
Overhaul line which ultimately resulted in the 68% increase in MTBF for the instrument in the
field.
• Developed new method for gathering and analyzing data from the most critical instrument test
enabling instrument variability and test equipment variability tracked separately. This lead to a
significant correlation between variability and detection of potential ‘short timer’ failures.
Received only United States Air Force Award Fee issued that year.
• Established Figure Of Merit “Watchlist” for instruments that pass all tests but have anomalies
with key test data. Received 1 of 3 Award Fees for that year from the USAF for identifying the
potential issue and providing a solution.
• Developed and implemented a global Customer Survey of the channel groups across all
Product Divisions resulting in a cost savings of $850,000 in three years.
• Enhanced and executed the Third Party Assessment survey, resulting in cost savings of
$30,000 in the first year and over $50,000 in subsequent years.
• Coordinated over 150 total quality internal auditors for the Automation Control and Information
Group resulting in 100% compliance to both ISO 9000 and 14,000 registrations.

• Coordinated Total Quality compliance in meeting both automotive and FDA requirements as
required for Tier 1 Suppliers.
• Designed, delivered training and implemented an automated Statistical Process Control (SPC)
system for electronic manufacturing resulting in significant quality improvements while
reducing test and inspection time.
• Developed and implemented a Business Process Improvement (BPI) procedure, which
included weighted measures and quantifiable metrics, adaptable to all processes. Taught an
instructional procedure which was filmed and utilized throughout the company. As a result,
the top 6 BPI projects were presented to Executive Management and Board of Directors.
Received a Customer First and Chairman’s Award for the effort.
• Developed, delivered training and implemented a Design for Manufacturing Index (DMI), which
took into account component quality, process set up time, total time to build and correlated
with outgoing yield. All new product designs received a DMI and were not considered
acceptable until meeting the required Index value. It is still in use today.
• Statistical project lead on development and production of Lite-Weight Sealed Beam Headlight –
reduced overall weight by 25% and significantly improved optical measures resulting in use of
a Halogen Lamp as part of standard production.
• Statistical project lead on the development of a procedure for concatenating Optical Wave
Guides without loss of attenuation – first time it had ever been accomplished.
