• Location, Location, Location.

Metro Area where you what to work (Houston
    77002)

Between Jobs, retired, ETC ETC. Hiring managers
rarely look for someone to fill the position of Job Seeker.
   – Stale Bait gets you nowhere Refresh as needed
Profile Basics
• Keep in Mind that your prey may be in the next field
(Google or some other Search Engine) and will need to
be attracted by something other than a headline.
   – These search engines vary and are trapped by
     relevance. Key Profile sections include
   – Professional headline
   – The title of your current role
   – The title of your past roles
   – Summary statement
   – Specialties

    connections with class mates
Getting Recommendations
• Need Three to make profile 100% make this
  step a priority
• Talk with prior coworkers, clients, and other
  professional contacts to get meaningful
  recommendations.
• Give to get. Sucking up at this stage never hurt
  anyone
Other Profile Enhancements
• Get Comfortable with this process
   – You will be tweaking this considerably as you go. Improving
words, adding section, adding data, and keeping active
   – Use the maximum effective words to describe each position.
This will improve your returns in searches as hiring managers
seek their candidates. Forget the two page resume rule
   – Make certain you list the objectives of your profile (Job
     Seeker)
   – Have fun with this . You will quickly be in contact with
persons you have forgotten and new contacts across the
     globe
Add Alternate Searchable Sections
• Consider using the other sections of LinkedIn to
  expand your profile
• Remember the sweeter the bait, the more
searches will be trapped and ultimately viewed if
the quality of the data stands out
Define your Skills
• Up to 50 are available and are searchable by
  users
List any projects
• This allows you to link your data to others in the
  workgroups directly
• Also provides for details of your accomplishments (2000
  Characters Limit)
Use Alternate Applications
• Many available to allow for more text data and
formatted information to be stored and available
to your connections. List is long but includes
  – Slideshare
Provides space for power point and other formatted message
    presentations

  – Respond immediately.
  – Post updates on your search
       • “Attended BJM Sr Managers Meeting and I’m excited!”
  – Chumming is good!
       • Go to different ponds (groups) and make a comment or
post a subject (pick 3 to begin)
       • Don’t throw stones - add something of interest other than
         clicking the like button.
Methods for Keeping Present
