Brucellosis is caused by Brucella bacteria and is characterized by fever, sweating, arthritis, and enlarged spleen in humans. It is commonly known as Undulant fever, Malta fever, or Mediterranean fever. Susceptible animals like cattle, sheep, goats, swine, buffaloes, horses and dogs can carry the disease and transmit it to humans through direct contact with infected tissues, blood, urine, vaginal discharge, aborted fetuses or contaminated food and water. Prevention methods include vaccinating animals, safe disposal of infected animal waste, and personal hygiene practices like handwashing when handling animals.
