Operation Guadalcanal And Adjacent Islands, Operation...
The campaign to seize Guadalcanal and adjacent islands, Operation Watchtower, is a valuable case
study illustrating aspects of design and operational art. Features of operational design and art are
unmistakable in the shaping of the Pacific campaign plan and subsequent subordinate operations. This
case study illustrates the actions taken link the series of tactical actions across the Pacific toward the
national strategic objective of defeating Japan along a defined line of operation. This paper briefly
explores the use of design and operational art by the Allies in the Solomon Islands campaign of World
War II.
At the strategic level, the Allies prioritized the European Theater of Operations (ETO) ahead of the
Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) after the Arcadia conference (22 Dec 1941 14 Jan 1942). This
initially relegated Pacific strategy to a defensive one primarily due to lack of resources. However, due
to rapid Japanese advances in early 1942 Australia requested the return of her divisions that were
currently serving in the ETO under the British. This set a chain of events in motion allowing a more
aggressive Pacific strategy to emerge. Australia was a crucial ally and a decisive point in the defense
of the Pacific. As a conciliatory measure the United States dispatched additional divisions and
equipment to the South Pacific in order to retain Australian divisions in Europe. It should also be
noted that most Americans were still seething over Pearl Harbor adding to

Archbishop Oscar Romero Religion
Imagine trying to attend mass and being gunned down by the government s military. The impact
religion has on people s perspective had been seen as a threat by the government. In the film, Romero
directed by John Duigan, this issue of the Church s involvement in politics is displayed in El Salvador
in the year 1980. Archbishop Oscar Romero dedicated his life to the poor through the Eucharist and
his own views on politics changed as well. In the beginning of the film, Romero s good friend, father
Grande supports the poor people during a time of political tension. At first, Oscar Romero s opinion is
that the Church and the church officials should stay out of politics and just focus on doing their job.
Along with father Grande, other priests think that they should focus on helping the poor and taking a
side in the political battle. Shortly after, Romero is appointed to be the new Archbishop of El Salvador,
and because of this, people bring Romero gifts after his first mass as the official archbishop. ... Show

The fact that Romero s good friend, father Grande, is dead, changes his way of thinking dramatically.
Romero realizes that there is a major division in the Church, the rich and the powerful versus the poor
and the voiceless. This motivates him to give homilies about becoming united within the Church and
through the Eucharist. The Eucharist is a physical representation of Jesus Christ and we should be
united as one beneath Him. One example of unity through the Eucharist Romero tries to enforce is
when a rich woman asks for a private baptism for her child but Romero denies her and says everyone
will do their baptism on a public

The Cultural and Sub Cultural Influence of Narcotics...
The Cultural And Sub Cultural Influence of Narcotics Anonymous.
The Subculture of N.A is a life outside of any expectations formed by the main Cultural Influence. It
is a very private organization that I belong to which became a way of life for me. It has values,
traditions, beliefs, sanctions and roles. This is the only outside influence in my life that made me
develop meaning to my life again. I was a complete and total crack addict who finally hit the bottom
of the barrel and started looking for a way to climb out of the grave I dug myself into.
Narcotics Anonymous is a group that has taught me many values. They have twelve values, twelve

The N.A. also has norms although informal norms and positive sanctions. For example, if a member
of the group strays from the steps and relapses instead of punishment we show them extra love and
compassion to get them through their time of need. This is also a form of folkways. There are certain
types of conduct which we should follow. If a Group member is sharing we don t butt in or comment
until they are done.
This group also has Mores to some extent. Many of our members are here because they were ordered
by the court. If these people don t attend and get there court sheet signed by the group leader they can
be sanctioned in a negative way. They may get ordered jail time or even be ordered into a rehab
facility. These are the formal norms.
Everything about this subculture is different from the dominant culture. We have special beliefs and
goals that we struggle to accomplish everyday of our lives as where the dominant culture doesn t have
a constant battle to stay sober. The membership process is so easy for addicts. All you have to do is
show up for a meeting. Everyone is welcome, every race, nationality, men women and children. The
only thing you need to be is an addict. That ranges from marijuana to heroin and everything in
between.

The Importance Of Spanking Children
It is a good idea to spank your children yes, I think that it is a great idea. Today in this generation
parents do not like to say no to their kids and they get whatever they want. This is a big problem with
children running their parents today and the parents are not saying no or disciplining them. I believe
that kids today should be spanked. Many kids today do not have any respect for anyone like adults,
teachers, and their grandparents. In this generation parents do not like to spank or discipline their
children. They don t like doing this because they think it could hurt their children if they do so. When
a child does something wrong they act a certain way, and get into trouble they should get spank for
what they did. When a child gets into trouble they should be spanked for it because it teaches great life
skills when it comes to it. With spanking there are many lessons when it comes to it. When I was
growing up I got spanked if I did something wrong. After I got spanked I never did that thing again
that I did to get spanked again. I have learned a lot of life lessons when it comes to spanking. I have
become a great respectful adult because I was spanked growing up. Today I repst everyone that I meet
today because of the lessons I was taught. There are lessons when it comes to spanking your children.
I am glad this happened to me growing up because if it wasn t I would not have become the person
that I am today. There are many lessons and it helps children to become

What Is A Memorable Moment Essay
Memorable Moment Let us go, please. I yelled.
Ok where do you want to go? Mom asked.
To the Lake, so pack. I said
My mom, my sister Hailey ,and packed. I packed the cooler for the drinks and food. While I opened
the freezer, I saw all of the frost on the ice container and I saw fog come out of the freezer. As my face
got cooled I tried to get the ice container I put both arms in the freezer and reached and reached. As I
kept on reaching I felt all of the cold air go on my arms all the way down my legs. As I finally picked
up the large white, plastic, ice container I felt all of the frost on the box now on my hands. As I set the
container full of ice on the island. Then I finally lifted up the ice container and dumped the ice in the
cooler I put the container in the freezer. As my mom told me to watch Hailey while she goes to get
soda. I told Hailey to pack whatever she wants to pack. As Hailey was packing I was sitting there
listening to music on my phone. When I heard my mom pull in into the driveway and into the garage I
took of my headphones and packed the cooler into the enormous trunk. While my sister was getting
buckled into her carseat I got hers stuff and put it in the trunk. My mom and I got buckled and mom
pulled out of the garage and we were on the road in no time, but before we went to the lake we
stopped at Sara s Ice Cream Shop. I got a large root beer float while my mom got an Icecream cone
and so did my sister. 30 minutes later we have arrived at the lake.
As I stepped out of the car I could feel the blazing hot concrete. I ran to the cool relaxing water. My
mom took out the towels and the cooler out of the car and set our spot up on the smooth, dry, and
crunchy sand. As my 2 year old sister got her princess floaties on I saw a 10 foot cliff jump spot. As I
walked up the steep, slippery, and light green mossy rocks. As I got to the top I got nervous, at that
very moment somebody did a belly flop. While they did the belly flop I saw some pebbles fall of the
10 foot cliff. As I stepped up to the edge of the 10 foot it looked like a 15 foot cliff. As I jumped of the
cliff I did a cannonball, as I was doing a cannonball I felt all of the air blowing in my face, I opened

Suji Kwock Kim s Monologue for an Onion
Truth comes from feelings and experiences influenced by values and society. Images of wants and
needs are created based on perceptions and daily life practices of the things people think should be. In
the poem Monologue for an Onion by Suji Kwock Kim, the author depicts a reality of truth and
perception among the use of tone. By exploring the values of structure, and theme, one analyzes the
truths behind the poem and relates the pitiful and mocking tone to important attributes of each
character. The contrary characteristics of the onion versus the person are significant elements that
make the poem satisfying and believable. If you look into the title Monologue for an Onion , one
would suggest that the poem would actually be about a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The distinctiveness of style and language represented in the poem are what identify the sorrowful and
aggressive tone. From the opening of the poem we learn that the onion is pleading with someone to
stop cutting him into pieces. The onion says I don t mean to make you cry. /I mean nothing, but this
has not kept you/ From peeling away my body. (lines 1 3) The attitude being presented is sorrowful.
Pity is being expressed by the onion because it notices itself as being the reason why the person
addressed is crying. At the same time, the person could be crying to get the onions attention and win
the onions sympathy. Based on the context, the onion seems to represent a male who s fed up with the
way he has been treated and the person he s addressing seems to be a female who s hurting and
seeking some kind of truth. They are in a dreadful relationship and the voice presented in the poem
acts as a response to the previous conversation the two had before the onion spoke. Because the onion
feels as though he is responsible for the persons tear s, he s reassuring himself and her that he means
no harm. The choice of words in lines 5 6 demonstrate the sorrowful tone I speak of, uttered by the
onion. He says all the debris of pursuit./Poor deluded human: you seek my heart. (lines 5 6) In these
lines, I see the onion as thinking he is above the human. Like a father looking down on his son,
shaking his head, accentuating that he has so much to learn.

The African American Resident Community
Introduction
As has been described, research at on the Levi Jordan Plantation has focused on the African American
resident community, and has revealed considerable information about the specialized crafts that were
practiced by members of this community. Evidence indicates that the use of these crafts went beyond
daily subsistence needs to include ritual use, and demonstrates multi dimensional patterns of artifact
use in their community: functional, social, and religious aspects are evident. It has been proposed that
one of these crafts was the manufacture of munitions. As first argued by Brown and Cooper 1990 (4),
one of the cabins excavated appeared to contain a high quantity of lead and other related artifacts that
indicated the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Third, I wanted to examine the broader context of munitions making in terms of African and African
American beliefs, and to see how the Munition Maker participated in the internal structure of the
tenant community on the Levi Jordan plantation. I will report on aspects of the first two sets of
research questions on this paper; the questions relating to ritual will be addressed in a future forum.
Data presentation
During the field seasons of 1986 through 1988, a total of eleven units were excavated partially or
completely in the area that had been provisionally labeled as the Munition Maker s cabin. Out of the
total 255 square feet of this cabin, 206 square feet were excavated within the Munition Maker s cabin.
This represents approximately 81% percent of the total floor space in this cabin. During the
excavation the West and East brick foundations were uncovered. In this slide the West foundation wall
was seen.
From the area that was excavated a total of 30,306 artifacts were excavated from the abandonment
deposit. Of these 58.09% related to building materials, 1.15% were classified as ceramics, 30.78%
were classified as ecological, .29% were classified as farmware, 3.02% were classified as glass, .56 %
was classified as munitions, 1.6% as personal, .17% as general tools and 4.34% as utensils. The focal
point of the following review of the data will be on the use of space in terms of foodstuffs, general

My reasoning for choosing College Connection is because I am in need a fresh start away from all the

This has caused me this past year to lose my spark with school and not try as hard as I very well know
I should be which is why I need a change of scenery and a new curriculum that challenges me to
where I have no room to slack. Aside from the loss of my spark this year I am still a very hard worker

Sacrifice In The Kite Runner
Sacrifice (and issues related to it) have been an inherent part of literature from the beginning. The
intense connection between destruction and creation raises questions about the human capability for
violence and love in equal measure and seemingly violates the natural human instinct for survival.
This has solidified its place as an object of fascination and scrutiny for generations. Sacrifice is not
simply a matter of giving up one s life or something equal to it for someone else; oftentimes,
psychological motivations behind sacrifice are very complex. However, in works such as The Kite
Runner, The Color Purple, Cyrano de Bergerac, Saving Private Ryan, The Nightingale and the Rose ,

Although he is a sensitive and bookish young boy, instances of a mean streak appear throughout the
book. He often takes advantage of Hassan s love for him and uses it to pressure him into committing
acts such as firing walnuts with his slingshot at the neighbor s one eyed German shepherd (4). In one
instance, he goes so far as to tease Hassan into admitting that he would eat dirt if he told him to, and to
confess that he finds teasing him to be something fascinating albeit in a sick way (54), though he
knows it to be cruel. His occasional antagonism towards Hassan stems in part from his jealousy and
his own feelings of inadequacy in regards to the love of his father. Hassan possesses an innate courage
and sense of justice and natural athletic abilities, all traits that Amir lacks and that Baba admires. The
fact that Amir does not stack up to Hassan in the eyes of their father becomes clear during a
conversation that he overhears between Baba and Rahim Khan. Not only does his father not
understand his inclination to spend his days reading and writing, he also looks down upon Amir s
inability to stand up both for his own self and for others and tendency to let Hassan fight his battles for
him. He states unequivocally that A boy who won t stand up for himself becomes a man who can t
stand up to anything (22). This leads to Amir s heightened jealousy of Hassan, general feeling of

E. B. Tylor s Influence On Religion
Religion and supernatural belief have gone hand in hand for centuries, and ideas of these beliefs have
been debated by many different anthropologists, religious thinkers and sociologists. Anthropologist
E.B. Tylor had an interpretation that assisted in influencing future scholars on ideologies of religion
and the supernatural. Tylor focused on an anthropological viewpoint, stating that supernatural belief
stemmed from explanation of natural phenomena including life and death. Tylor s major contribution
to the religious field was his theory of animism and the idea of survivors and through cultural
anthropology, he interpreted the supernatural in a way that had not previously been deduced,
influencing many key religious thinkers whom were searching for a viewpoint outside of the religious
believer s scope.
Commonly known as the Father of Anthropology , Edward Burnett Tylor was an English
anthropologist who is commonly recognised as a founder in cultural anthropology. After spending
time in Mexico in 1855, Tylor discovered a fascination for unfamiliar culture and identifying
interpretations of religion and the supernatural. He began a search for explanation into ... Show more

It played a large role in how he theorised the creation of supernatural beliefs, and was arguably the
largest contribution he made to religious theory. Tylor reintroduced the idea of animism into popular
religious thinking, defining it as the faith in the individual soul of all things, and natural
manifestations. He considered this theory as the first phase in the development of all religions and
believed that animism fit into two categories: belief in souls and belief in spirits. This closely linked to
his theories of supernatural and the need for explanation in natural phenomena, especially focusing on
the theories that ask why primitive people needed to believe in a higher deity and spiritual

The Nature Of God In The Book Of Daniel
Throughout the book of Daniel, the writer uses such language as, The Lord let , God allowed , God
gave , and God will to depict who God is to humanity. God grants insight to Daniel (Babylonian name
Belteshazzar), and protection to Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah (Babylonian names Shadrach,
Meshack and Abednego). God gives to whom God wants to according to Her plan and purpose. As the
Hebrew Bible records, Israel though disobedient was promised that God would restore them. The
Israelites, the exiles in the book of Daniel appear to be faithful and diligent in their allegiance to God.
It is the Babylonians that act to learn who this God is and brought low because of their pride and
taught. God shows mercy not only to the Israelites, but to the Babylonians as well! God uses the fiery
pit, the lion s den, King Nebuchadnezzar, his son, King Belshazzar, residents of Babylon and King
Darius to reveal and affirm that He is the Most High God.
God Is Sovereign
God uses his authority and power over everything He has created to work for His purpose as well as
exaltation. Throughout the book of Daniel, it appears that everything works towards the plan of God.
God uses what give the impression to be the righteous and the unrighteous. God performs to work
through good, evil, friend and foe.

Once the Odyssey had entered an orbit around Earth, Chief Steward Pars stood at the front of the

First, in order to put everything in perspective, we must return to the dawn of our universe. In the
beginning, nearly fourteen billion years ago, the Big Bang created time and space from a single
infinitesimally small point that exploded and released tremendous energy causing the universe to
expand as it still is today. Specifically, the energy was in the form of electrons, protons, and neutrons.
Protons and neutrons later clumped together to form the nucleus around which electrons orbited to
produce the very first atoms, such as hydrogen. In other words, atoms make up the building blocks of
all matter. The electrons, protons, and neutrons are the subatomic particles. Hydrogen, the lightest
atom, has one proton in its nucleus around which an electron orbits. Clouds of hydrogen atoms formed
the primordial nebulae. When the nebulae became thick enough, the hydrogen atoms clumped
together, amassing gravity and even more hydrogen atoms to eventually form the core of the stars.
After two hydrogen nuclei collided and fused at the high temperatures in the core, the element helium
formed in a process called nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion releases tremendous energy that makes stars
give off light and heat. Our Sun shines chiefly due to nuclear fusion. In fact, stars first

Ballistic Pendulum
While conducting the ballistic pendulum report you gain a bigger understanding of velocity and
momentum. Using the ballistic pendulum, and formulas learned in Physics, one can predict the range
of the ball when it is shot horizontally. There are several materials that are used to conduct this
experiment including: the ballistic pendulum, a balance, at least one sheet of paper, weights, and a
calculator. Firstly, before anything else is done, the mass of the ball needs to be calculated. Using the
balance, and additional weights if necessary, find the mass of the ball. This will be in grams, so you
need to convert that to kilograms. The conversion between grams and kilograms is: 1000g=1kg. The
mass of our ball was 69.9g, 0.0696kg. After this is calculated, the height of the bob from the pointer to
the table must be calculated and converted to meters. The conversion from centimeters to meters is
100cm=1m. The height of our bob was 12.7cm, .127m. Now we calculate the force of the bob by
setting the ball in the bob, and spring back the gun to shoot it. Attempt this at least seven times and
record the tooth number on the rack when the pendulum stops. After this, find the average ... Show

Once it is moved, we need to calculate the new height from the pointer to the floor. Our height was
88.5cm which we converted to .885m. Then we need to calculate how long it would take for the ball
to hit the floor with the formula, x=vot+12at2. Solve for t, and set the initial velocity to 0 which
should be t=2xg. Which then calculated is .4244s. After this step, we need to calculate the range,s,to
predict where the ball would on the floor after it is shot horizontally from the table. The range,s,can be
calculated with the formula, s=vt. Using our time and initial velocity, s=6.46(.4244). This is equal to

Case Study: Starbucks Structure Starbucks Coffee, we all know the name and most love the coffee and
atmosphere it brings to our daily lives. Starbucks started out like most organizations a small coffee
shop in 1971 in Seattle s historic Pike Place Market and grew. This small shop started out as a single
owner who the employees answered to which is known as departmentalization by function and has
now grown to be divided by territories known as geographic regions. This fortune 500 company is not

What they serve in the United States may not always be what they sell in other countries, or California
may not have the same menu items as Maine. The concept is the same and the base of the organization

may be changed in stores offering food products and lunch due to the region specific menu items that
are served. By being flexible and accommodating to the region specific demands keeps the
organization marketable and the desired sought out location.
Starbucks began to experience financial problems in 2008 and 2009; this was mainly due to the
recession and rumored of poor business strategy (LaMonica, 2008). When a company goes thru a hard
financial time the organization pauses and looks at organizational structure to see where the
breakdown occurred or change could be implemented. Centralization and decentralization refer to the
degree of delegation of decision making, authority, and power within an organization (Reilly,
Minnick, Baack, 2011). The leadership should centralize power and decision making for the
operations as a whole. With Starbucks a large fortune 500 company with locations all over the world,
this will be difficult. By standardizing a plan for all franchise and locations to follow and maintain
would help the business be uniformed however allow the flexibility for region specific demands.

particularly vivid (1977). They hypothesised that as well as being extremely vivid, flashbulb
memories are also characterised by long lasting accuracy. However, research has shown variation in
the evidence supporting this notion, implying that there are a number of factors that influence the
accuracy of flashbulb memories. It had also been argued that flashbulb memories cannot be
characterised by accuracy at all, a debate that will also be considered. This essay will explore a
number of factors that have been suggested by literature and evaluate its validity.
Before reviewing the accuracy of flashbulb memory, it is important to consider that not all research
supports Brown and Kulik s description of flashbulb memories as highly accurate (1977). For
instance, Talarico and Rubin compared the consistency of September 11 terrorist attacks flashbulb
memories with everyday memories and found no difference with equal amounts decay in both cases
(2003). However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Namely, Tinti, Schmidt, Sotgiu, Testa and Curci (2009) found that in flashbulb memories concerning
the death of Pope John Paul II, consequentiality and religious involvement in the event were the

flashbulb memory accuracy because of Pope John Paul II s impact on Polish politics and the Catholic
majority population. A similar study of the same event by Lanciano, Curci and Soleti (2013) found
similar results, showing that Catholics had the highest flashbulb memory consistency of the Pope s
death, because it had the greatest consequence on their

The Importance Of The Hawthorne Effect
In middle school and high school, everyone at some point or another ends up playing the game would
you rather with their friends. This game can potentially show a side of someone that their friends may
not know about them. For example, if there is a girl, Suzie, and her friends give her the choice of,
would you rather date Jake or Thomas? Her friends may not know that she has a crush on Thomas and
if she answers truthfully, then they would possibly find out about the crush. This example is a small
portion of what the big picure is with this game, it is meant to help show who you really are and what
your personality is and what your preferences are. The question at hand now would be would I rather
have someone follow me around all day while I go about my daily routine undergoing an objective
test, or take a series of projective tests. I would definitely go with a series of projective tests. Since I
have a pretty good grip on what my personality is and what type of person I am, I am very prone to the
Hawthorne Effect. The Hawthorne Effect is a type of reactivity where the individual changes their
behavaior becuase they are aware they are being watched (Rosenberg and Kosslyn, 2014). If I was
going to have someone follow me around all day while I do my daily activities, I would not be acting
like my normal self because I would know that I am being watched for a study. Some other reasons
why I would not go with the objective test is because there are four different

Chandler-Personal Narrative
Chandler wheels me out the front hospital doors and into the early Winter air. I take a deep lung
chilling breath as we stop to wait for my mom to pull up. Due to me being a stubborn ads and not
listening when anyone said to take it easy I popped my stitches constantly which resulted in a longer
stay in the hospital due to the depth of my wounds. It s not like I can t handle a little pain here and

Chandler shivered as the icy wind picked up causing my curls to swirl around my face like ribbons
trapped in the gust. My eyes were slightly watering and my fingers were tightly tucked under my
armpits to keep them from freezing off. Don t get me wrong I love the cold seasons but not so much
when all on was wearing was a worn and faded black ACDC t shirt, some blue jeans, converses, and
one of Chandler s thin dark grey jackets. My mom finally pulls up looking straight at the gloomy skies
ahead. Her face lacked any emotion and her eyes were dull as she patiently waited for me to inter the
truck. Of course since I m only 5 3 and wielding 12 stitches in my left side Chandler gently helped me
into the truck.
As I got settled in the warm leather seat I weakly smiled at him. There was sadness and regret in his
eyes as he feebly smiled back at me. He still blames himself for what happened. I slowly leaned over

What Is The Government s Response To The Truman Doctrine
By 1947, US president Harry S. Truman was outraged by the Soviet Union s perceived resistance to
American demands in Iran, Turkey and Greece, as well as their rejection of the Baruch Plan on nuclear
weapons. In February 1947, the British government announced that it could no longer afford to
finance the Kingdom of Greece in its civil war against Communist led insurgents. The US government
s response to this announcement was the adoption of containment, the goal of which was to stop the
spread of Communism. Truman delivered a speech that called for the allocation of $400 million to
intervene in the war and unveiled the Truman Doctrine, which framed the conflict as a contest
between free peoples and totalitarian regimes. American policymakers

Stormwater Management Staff On The Four Mile Run Watershed...
Briefing Arlington County s Stormwater Management Staff on the Four Mile Run Watershed Model
Oct 26, 2017
Meeting Notes
In Attendance: Sayedul Choudhury, Riyam Alobaidi, Elizabeth Thurber and Guosheng Qui
Sayedul provided an update on the Four Mile Run SWMM5 Model. A model summary and a map of
model components (see attached) were handed out.
The Four Mile Run SWMM5 Model results were found to match observed flows at the Shirlington
gage, especially for large storms (5,000 cfs or larger). However, for the tributaries, small streams and
upper Four Mile Run segments, the model performance cannot be validated until local wet weather
flow data are collected.
Sayedul requested Arlington County to
Collect rainfall data at a few more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sayedul will collect a copy of the data from Riyam.
CH2M added storages to a number of subwatersheds in the tributary models to account for water that
cannot enter the pipes, especially if the pipes are too small to carry the peak watershed runoff. Streams
Tech will evaluate the need for such storages in other subwatersheds to ensure that no water is lost
from the system.
Arlington County and Streams Tech personnel will walk along the key or questionable areas of the
stormwater network to identify potential problems and verify the connectivity and representation of
network (nodes, links, storages and subwatersheds) in the model.
Arlington County will provide data for an initial update of the model and then provide data annually to
update the model.
Streams Tech will coordinate NVRC to set up meeting to provide a project update to the Technical
Advisory Committee (TAC).
Arlington County wants to use the model results for various projects and programs including the MS4
Program.
Four Mile Run SWMM model Summary
1. Four models for the following subwatersheds were developed by CH2M Hill and incorporated in
the FMR SWMM model:
a. Arlington County Crossman Run subwatershed
b. Arlington County Lubber Run subwatershed

homeschooled, then what? This child should still have the same opportunities to play sports at a

homeschooled should not take away the opportunities given through high school athletics for various
reasons but especially since parents of homeschooled kids pay the same taxes as kids who attend

Human Nature And Savagery In William Golding s Lord Of The...
Man is at bottom a wild and terrible animal. We know him only as what we call civilization has tamed
and trained him to be; hence we are alarmed by the occasional breaking out of his true nature. But
whenever the locks and chains of law and order are cast off, and anarchy comes in, he shows himself
for what he really is. Arthur Schopenhauer
In today s world, human behaviours are driven by the civilization preset by society. In the rare
occasion that the civilization is taken away, humans unveil their true selves: animals with a savage and
evil nature. In 1954, after leaving the Royal Navy, William Golding wrote his story Lord of the Flies,

I thought, by myself The madness came into his eyes again. I thought I might kill (51). This quotation
shows the change in character from innocent to savage. Jack, who started the story off as simply a
selfish British boy now has a compulsion to kill . Jack s evil nature is starting to appear and this nature
is swallowing him up . This connects to The Garden of Eden because in that story it is shown that
Adam and Eve start out innocent, but as time goes on their natural evil is released and they sin by
taking the apple from the tree. The allegory shown by Jack s action exhibits how this story is an
example of the unveiling of evil and savage when taken from civilization. The boy s natural savage
appears moments after they are released from civilization.
In Lord of The Flies, Golding also uses the characterization of Ralph to illustrate how the natural
savage is inescapable and that no matter one tries they can t change that. For a majority of the story
Ralph is seen as the most innocent and civilized. From the moment they arrive on the island, Ralph
spends a lot of time trying to keep order and stop the savage actions of Jack and his group. Though he
tries to stay completely innocent, even Ralph begins to reveal evil traits on the island. When the

The Importance Of Typology In Christianity
Christianity has been from the beginning a typological religion. Typology in Christian theology and
Biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the relationship between the Old and New
Testaments . (Merriam Webster 868) Perhaps the single most important concept for understanding
early Christianity is typology. Typology is a form of study of literature identifying symbols especially
in the Bible. This system of groupings, usually called types, the members of which are identified by
postulating specified attributes that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive groupings set
up to aid demonstration or inquiry by establishing a limited relationship among phenomena. Typology
is interpreted throughout text in American literature such as William Bradford s Plymouth Plantation,
Jonathan Edward s Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and Thomas Paine Common Sense. During
the Enlightenment, the meaning of Protestant identity became increasingly vague; typology took on
the hazy significance of image and symbol; what passed for the divine plan had lost its strict
grounding sculpture; providence itself was shaken loose from its religious frame work to became part
of the belief in the human progress. The eighteenth century clergy took advantage of this movement to
shift the focus of figural authority, from Bible history to the American experience. In effect, they
substituted a regional for a biblical past, sanctified the American present as a movement from promise

Pso Algorithm Is Developed By The Social Behavior Patterns...
3.3 PSO PSO algorithm is developed by the social behavior patterns of the organisms that exist and
interact within large groups. As, it converges at a faster rate than the global optimization algorithms,
the PSO algorithm is applied for solving various optimization problems easily. In the PSO technique, a
population called as a swarm of candidate solutions are encoded as particles in the search space.
Initially, PSO begins with the random initialization of the population. These particles move iteratively
through the D dimensional search space to search the optimal solutions, by updating the position of
each particle. During the movement of the swarm, a vector Xi=(Xi1, Xi2,...., XiD) represents the
current position of the particle i . Vi=(Vi1, Vi2,...., ViD) represents the velocity of the particle which is
in the range of [−vmax, vmax]. The best previous position of a particle is denoted as personal best
Pbest. The global best position obtained by the population is denoted as Gbest. The PSO searches for
the optimal solution by updating the velocity and position of each particle, based on the Pbest and
Gbest. The next position of the particle in the search space is calculated by using the new velocity
value. This process is repeated for a fixed number of times or until a minimum error is achieved. The
rate of the change in the velocity and position of the particle is given as v_id=v_id+c_1 r_1 (p_id x_id
)+c_2 r_2 (p_gd x_id ) (3.1) x_id=x_id+v_id (3.2) Where c_1

Now, the novel and the world we live hold some similarities that I am going to share today. THESIS

If we look at the prompts we were given for this exact essay, one is asking us to defend the accuracy
of the statement for the theme of that the government s actions are not benevolent, but self serving.
The prompt itself isn t asking us if it is accurate. It s telling us that it is. What this does is give us as a
reader the preconceived notion that this is the truth. The problem here being that what if we don t
think that this statement is what the novel is about. Truthfully, you can interpret anything from a
novel, so you could really put any theme there and defend it. However the statement from the novel
itself describes this perfectly. Don t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of
thought? In the end we shall make thought crime literally impossible, because there will be no words
in which to express it. (Orwell 23) The essays that we have been told to write are in fact doing such a
thing by having us restate themes and opinions told to us by higher powers and then defend such
themes. What this does is condition us to not have our own opinion on things. How many times have
you been on the internet and you see someone get famous based off their opinion on something, only
to have everyone else then start thinking the exact same way. People are in some regards, very sheep

Examples Of Blindness In King Lear
Lack of insight to one s surroundings is an indicator of failure in one s proper metacognition. This
blindness is a tragic flaw that if one is not quick to realize, can have deadly and long term effects as
developed through William Shakespeare s King Lear. According to Shakespeare, blindness is not
simply a physical issue, but rather a challenge of the mind. In the play, the dominant theme of
figurative and literal blindness carries both the main plots and counterplots throughout the play. In
William Shakespeare s King Lear, the ineluctable subject of blindness develops through King Lear, his
daughters, and Gloucester as they suffer the repercussions of their lack of perception in their lives.

false wounds, Gloucester claims that of [his] land, / Loyal and natural [Edmund], / [he will] work the

wealth and authority, Gloucester is physically blinded as a punishment and when told the truth of
Edmund s betrayal, he cries [t]hen Edgar was abused. / King gods, forgive [him] that, and prosper
him! (III, vii, 91 92) Gloucester s deeper insight into the true characters of his sons after he is blind
reflects irony: literal blindness ironically yields insight. Only when Gloucester is blind can he see
things for what they are, and his mistake of his refusal to hear out Edgar is what brings about his
punishment. Only after, he finally regains his sight and discovers that Edger had put all of his effort to
save his father s life while playing poor Tom and that Edgar loves him all regardless of past events.
Although Gloucester appears weak and gullible, his realization helps him to stay capable of great
bravery and seeking justice. Gloucester s

Women s Unequal Treatment Of Women
Virtually, every known society past and present, women have not been treated as an equal to men.
According to (UN NATIONS WEBSITE DEFINITON OF UNEQUAL TREATMENT of women
CITATION HERE)it is unequal treatment of individuals based on their gender. UN agencies and most
governments agree on the principle of gender inequality. The question at large is what accounts for the
difference between the rhetoric of equality and the reality of inequality? The single aspect of gender
inequality of men and women is that women obtain insufficient pay from their male counterparts in
the workforce. Throughout this paper the reader will recognize the role that the international and
traditional norms that society takes part of in women receiving equal pay. Secondly, this essay will
discuss the patriarchal manifestation within the women wage gap and how it has been resisted by the
government. Lastly, how different strategies are taking place in seeing which areas to obtain equal pay

The role that international and traditional norms have is that women are paid less than men. Women in
most countries earn on average only 60 to 75 per cent of men s wages (World Bank Gender Data
Portal 2014). On the international scene there are many laws and goals they state that is equal or that
should be equal pay between men and women, however, that does that seem to happen. On average a

Creative Imagination In The Illustrated Man By Ray Bradbury
The scientific novel The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury collects 18 different stories and shows
certain common themes in order to reflect real life concerns and problems during World War II in the

man as a storyteller for telling a clear moral point of view. The creative imagination as one of them,
which related to most of the story. It points out the dangers of imagination for children and society and
the power of imagination for achievement life goal. Ray Bradbury disputes that the creative

21st Century. The tiny, leaking, creaking, and unsafe submarine boats of the 1890 s, displacing under
two hundred tons and carrying a handful of men and a few torpedoes have grown into massive,

The sail stands about 20 feet high. It holds the periscopes and the radar and radio antennas. The top of
the sail also serves as the bridge, from which the captain directs the submarine when on surface. Steel
fins called diving planes stick out from both sides of the sail or bow and from the stern.
These diving planes guide the ship to different depths. One or two propellers in the stern drive the
submarine, also rudders above and below the propellers steer the craft. The earliest inventors had no
other way but manpower to propel their submarines. Initially, this involved oars, then came propellers
turned by hand, either by a single person, as in David Bushnell s Turtle². Or by several people turning
a crank, as in a Confederate Hunley and the German Brandtaucher (meaning Incendiary Diver ) in the
mid 19th Century compressed air was used as were electrical accumulators, both were of limited
endurance and required the submarine to return to the port to recharge, which was tactically
unacceptable. There were also a number of attempts to harness steam, not only for surface propulsion,
but also to provide power when submerged, using stored energy devises, but none worked
satisfactorily.Eventually it was realized that the solution was to combine the efficiency of the batteries
for underwater propulsion and some form of power which could be used on the surface, both to propel
the submarine and recharge its batteries.

What passing Bells for those who die as cattle? this gives the impression that these men are being
lined up for death as cattle are to the slaughter. They are looked upon as animals, and given animalistic
qualities, and lose any sort of individuality they had, this links back to the way Dulce et decorum est
shows them as fumbling and stumbling also animal like characteristics. I think that Mental Cases
really concentrates on the condition of the trenches the soldiers are working in, instead of looking at
them as animals about to die, it looks at the way in which they are already mentally dead before they
make the journey to heaven or hell. They are seen as Zombies, the battlefield is the place between
heaven and hell. Drooping tongues from jaws that slob their relish this is a powerful line, really giving

to the others, I think it has a more personal meaning to Owen himself, as he is describing things that
are sensitive to him.

Cellulose is the most abundant compound produced from stalks, leaves, and stems (Shankar, 2011).
The use of enzymes in the food industry provides safer and higher quality products. Cellulases are
enzymes which break down the sugar cellulose. Cellulase enzymes are produced by fungi, animals,
plants, and bacteria. (Zhang 2013) The cellulase enzyme has been used for various industry
applications such as the textile industry, paper industry, and juice industry. Cellulases link beta, 1,4
linkages in the cellulose chains (Zhang 2013). There are three types of cellulase enzymes:
endoglucanases, exoglucanases, and beta glucosidases. Exoglucanases act on the reducing or non
reducing ends of cellulose (Zhang, 2013). Endoglucanases cut the nonreducing ends of cellulose or the
beta 1,4 bonds. Endoglucanases are also produced by bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals
(Zhang,2013). Lastly, beta glucosidases are produced by archaea, bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals
and are known for degrading cellobiose (Zhang, 2013). All three forms of cellulases are produced
from animals, bacteria, and plants. The purpose of this paper will be to discuss mainly the cellulase
enzyme and its effect on the juice industry in addition to other applications of cellulase, and how
cellulase behaves in combination with other enzymes such as pectinase and xylanase.

her that they are going out tonight to celebrate after he leaves to corral their cows. When he leaves, a
craftsman comes through looking to fix some pots and pans in return for money. Elisa declines the
service, so the craftsman decides to get her to loosen up by talking about her favorite thing; her

Technology Is Destroying Empathy And Draws People s...
Scholars of empathy like Sherry Turkle believe that technology is destroying empathy and draws
people s attention away from reality into an illegitimate virtual reality. She goes as far as to say that
You need to suppress your empathy gene in order to participate fully in the mobile [phone] revolution
(Turkle 59). Although there are instances where this is true, like the family dinner table, it is not
representative of the moments where technology can improve empathy. Video games have been used
to influence the way people behave; that includes empathetic behavior. To facilitate the growth of
empathy between individuals through prosocial behaviors and indirectly improve empathetic
behaviors in society, I propose the creation of the massive multiplayer online game (MMO) T.E.A.M.
Crisis: Homefront. Like the title implies, teamwork is a critical component of the gameplay. The
general premise is that Earth is being invaded by an extraterrestrial entity known as the Pantheon of
Grim. To combat the threat, the Tactical Earth Alliance Militia (TEAM) was established, and this is
the organization of which the players are affiliated. Before outlining important gameplay mechanics,
the game has to be understood in the context of how I wish to affect empathy. Even though he is an
opponent of empathy, Paul Bloom makes an important observation about the inherent bias that
empathy fosters. He states that empathy influences an individual to act more empathetic towards those
who exhibit

Romanticism And Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its
underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to
portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of
the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple
butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When
looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the
supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is
an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man. Realism comes closer to
understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because it shows a slice of what real life was
like on the frontier. Murlock lived in a simple log house made with one door and one window. The
latter, however, was boarded up nobody could remember a time when it was not. Very few people
knew the secret of the window, or the particulars of the burden the man bore. The grandfather had
lived nearby and relayed the story firsthand of the story behind the uneducated ordinary man s life.
Bierce portrays this actual life of this ordinary man that shows life as it is, with Murlock s ups and
downs, that sometimes he had to shut out the things that could harm him. Suddenly the table shook
beneath his arms, and at the same moment he heard, or fancied that he heard, a light soft step another
sounds as of bare feet upon the floor! His did the best he cloud but with no medical help she died after
three days. He laid her onto the table to attempted to prepare her her body for burial. He methodically
dad what he thought was the order of natural laws. He performed the finishing touches adjusting her
hair. Exhausted, he laid his head on the table and drifted. The author presents this authentic real
situation of a unschooled man that had to face typical fearful days out in the wilderness. Although
some people on the other hand see the story as Realism. Romantic and comes closer to understanding
the life of an uneducated ordinary

Compare And Contrast Existentialism And Nihilism
Let s say that you had to choose to believe in one of the following schools of philosophies:
Existentialism and Nihilism. What would you choose? You wouldn t take a long time deciding
because these two are significantly different from one another. Existentialism is when you appreciate
life and you live your life passionately; believing that your actions will determine your fate and
therefore you can change it. Nihilism however, is the exact opposite. Anything that restrains you from
living your life to the fullest is considered to be nihilistic and you just believe in nothing because at
the end that s worthless. In Grendel, the two most dominant schools of philosophy presented are
Existentialism and Nihilism because Grendel spends a significant ... Show more content on

Grendel begins to think that he might as well perceive the smallest hope of becoming like them and
finally get rid of the stereotype that has been following him all his life. However, things didn t seem to
proceed as he wished. When he realized that he could understand the language of human, he tried to
answer them back but all that came out from his mouth was a loud roar which scared and terrified the
Danes and built up a misunderstanding. The Danes misinterpreted Grendel s intentions and kept
attacking every time Grendel tried to communicate. Throughout the novel, we also see how Grendel
passes through the three stages of existentialism designed by the 19th century philosopher,
Kierkegaard. The three stages are called aesthetic and ethical stage and the enlightenment. The first
stage is the aesthetic stage, where one simply acts in whichever way they wish to as long as it brings
them happiness and pleasure. We see this happen to Grendel as well when... The second stage is

Because all three respondents live in Trinidad and Tobago, the two fans noted that they do not
purchase tickets to attend her concerts abroad as it will be a great financial burden. However, if they
had the financial means, one noted that it would be one of her lifelong dreams to see the artiste
perform live on a stage before thousands of screaming fans, like herself.
The respondents described Beyoncé as being really talented , having a nice voice and a good dancer.
The music videos is appealing, at least from a woman s point of view, said the two female
respondents. The male respondent, however was unenthused by the same music video and instead
noted that he was enthused by another of her videos Check Up On It featuring Slim Thug, the theme
song for the movie Pink Panther.
The official music video for Irreplaceable starts with Beyoncé filing her nails as he picks up his
belongings in a house. During the narrative, she follows him around and outside where her Jaguar XK

thereafter another male enters the said house to meet the woman. B Day was released in the US on

  • 2. Operation Guadalcanal And Adjacent Islands, Operation... The campaign to seize Guadalcanal and adjacent islands, Operation Watchtower, is a valuable case study illustrating aspects of design and operational art. Features of operational design and art are unmistakable in the shaping of the Pacific campaign plan and subsequent subordinate operations. This case study illustrates the actions taken link the series of tactical actions across the Pacific toward the national strategic objective of defeating Japan along a defined line of operation. This paper briefly explores the use of design and operational art by the Allies in the Solomon Islands campaign of World War II. At the strategic level, the Allies prioritized the European Theater of Operations (ETO) ahead of the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) after the Arcadia conference (22 Dec 1941 14 Jan 1942). This initially relegated Pacific strategy to a defensive one primarily due to lack of resources. However, due to rapid Japanese advances in early 1942 Australia requested the return of her divisions that were currently serving in the ETO under the British. This set a chain of events in motion allowing a more aggressive Pacific strategy to emerge. Australia was a crucial ally and a decisive point in the defense of the Pacific. As a conciliatory measure the United States dispatched additional divisions and equipment to the South Pacific in order to retain Australian divisions in Europe. It should also be noted that most Americans were still seething over Pearl Harbor adding to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Archbishop Oscar Romero Religion Imagine trying to attend mass and being gunned down by the government s military. The impact religion has on people s perspective had been seen as a threat by the government. In the film, Romero directed by John Duigan, this issue of the Church s involvement in politics is displayed in El Salvador in the year 1980. Archbishop Oscar Romero dedicated his life to the poor through the Eucharist and his own views on politics changed as well. In the beginning of the film, Romero s good friend, father Grande supports the poor people during a time of political tension. At first, Oscar Romero s opinion is that the Church and the church officials should stay out of politics and just focus on doing their job. Along with father Grande, other priests think that they should focus on helping the poor and taking a side in the political battle. Shortly after, Romero is appointed to be the new Archbishop of El Salvador, and because of this, people bring Romero gifts after his first mass as the official archbishop. ... Romero realizes that there is a major division in the Church, the rich and the powerful versus the poor and the voiceless. This motivates him to give homilies about becoming united within the Church and through the Eucharist. The Eucharist is a physical representation of Jesus Christ and we should be united as one beneath Him. One example of unity through the Eucharist Romero tries to enforce is when a rich woman asks for a private baptism for her child but Romero denies her and says everyone will do their baptism on a public ... • 5. The Importance Of Spanking Children It is a good idea to spank your children yes, I think that it is a great idea. Today in this generation parents do not like to say no to their kids and they get whatever they want. This is a big problem with children running their parents today and the parents are not saying no or disciplining them. I believe that kids today should be spanked. Many kids today do not have any respect for anyone like adults, teachers, and their grandparents. In this generation parents do not like to spank or discipline their children. They don t like doing this because they think it could hurt their children if they do so. When a child does something wrong they act a certain way, and get into trouble they should get spank for what they did. When a child gets into trouble they should be spanked for it because it teaches great life skills when it comes to it. With spanking there are many lessons when it comes to it. When I was growing up I got spanked if I did something wrong. After I got spanked I never did that thing again that I did to get spanked again. I packed the cooler for the drinks and food. While I opened the freezer, I saw all of the frost on the ice container and I saw fog come out of the freezer. As my face got cooled I tried to get the ice container I put both arms in the freezer and reached and reached. As I kept on reaching I felt all of the cold air go on my arms all the way down my legs. As I finally picked up the large white, plastic, ice container I felt all of the frost on the box now on my hands. As I set the container full of ice on the island. Then I finally lifted up the ice container and dumped the ice in the cooler I put the container in the freezer. As my mom told me to watch Hailey while she goes to get soda. I told Hailey to pack whatever she wants to pack. As Hailey was packing I was sitting there listening to music on my phone. When I heard my mom pull in into the driveway and into the garage I took of my headphones and packed the cooler into the enormous trunk. While my sister was getting buckled into her carseat I got hers stuff and put it in the trunk. My mom and I got buckled and mom pulled out of the garage and we were on the road in no time, but before we went to the lake we stopped at Sara s Ice Cream Shop. I got a large root beer float while my mom got an Icecream cone and so did my sister. 30 minutes later we have arrived at the lake. As I stepped out of the car I could feel the blazing hot concrete. I ran to the cool relaxing water. My mom took out the towels and the cooler out of the car and set our spot up on the smooth, dry, and crunchy sand. As my 2 year old sister got her princess floaties on I saw a 10 foot cliff jump spot. As I walked up the steep, slippery, and light green mossy rocks. Images of wants and needs are created based on perceptions and daily life practices of the things people think should be. In the poem Monologue for an Onion by Suji Kwock Kim, the author depicts a reality of truth and perception among the use of tone. By exploring the values of structure, and theme, one analyzes the truths behind the poem and relates the pitiful and mocking tone to important attributes of each character. The distinctiveness of style and language represented in the poem are what identify the sorrowful and aggressive tone. From the opening of the poem we learn that the onion is pleading with someone to stop cutting him into pieces. The onion says I don t mean to make you cry. /I mean nothing, but this has not kept you/ From peeling away my body. (lines 1 3) The attitude being presented is sorrowful. Pity is being expressed by the onion because it notices itself as being the reason why the person addressed is crying. At the same time, the person could be crying to get the onions attention and win the onions sympathy. Based on the context, the onion seems to represent a male who s fed up with the way he has been treated and the person he s addressing seems to be a female who s hurting and seeking some kind of truth. They are in a dreadful relationship and the voice presented in the poem acts as a response to the previous conversation the two had before the onion spoke. Because the onion feels as though he is responsible for the persons tear s, he s reassuring himself and her that he means no harm. The choice of words in lines 5 6 demonstrate the sorrowful tone I speak of, uttered by the onion. He says all the debris of pursuit./Poor deluded human: you seek my heart. (lines 5 6) In these lines, I see the onion as thinking he is above the human. Like a father looking down on his son, shaking his head, accentuating that he has so much to learn. ... The African American Resident Community Introduction As has been described, research at on the Levi Jordan Plantation has focused on the African American resident community, and has revealed considerable information about the specialized crafts that were practiced by members of this community. Evidence indicates that the use of these crafts went beyond daily subsistence needs to include ritual use, and demonstrates multi dimensional patterns of artifact use in their community: functional, social, and religious aspects are evident. It has been proposed that one of these crafts was the manufacture of munitions. I will report on aspects of the first two sets of research questions on this paper; the questions relating to ritual will be addressed in a future forum. Data presentation During the field seasons of 1986 through 1988, a total of eleven units were excavated partially or completely in the area that had been provisionally labeled as the Munition Maker s cabin. Out of the total 255 square feet of this cabin, 206 square feet were excavated within the Munition Maker s cabin. This represents approximately 81% percent of the total floor space in this cabin. During the excavation the West and East brick foundations were uncovered. In this slide the West foundation wall was seen. The intense connection between destruction and creation raises questions about the human capability for violence and love in equal measure and seemingly violates the natural human instinct for survival. This has solidified its place as an object of fascination and scrutiny for generations. Sacrifice is not simply a matter of giving up one s life or something equal to it for someone else; oftentimes, psychological motivations behind sacrifice are very complex. In one instance, he goes so far as to tease Hassan into admitting that he would eat dirt if he told him to, and to confess that he finds teasing him to be something fascinating albeit in a sick way (54), though he knows it to be cruel. His occasional antagonism towards Hassan stems in part from his jealousy and his own feelings of inadequacy in regards to the love of his father. The fact that Amir does not stack up to Hassan in the eyes of their father becomes clear during a conversation that he overhears between Baba and Rahim Khan. • 13. E. B. Tylor s Influence On Religion Religion and supernatural belief have gone hand in hand for centuries, and ideas of these beliefs have been debated by many different anthropologists, religious thinkers and sociologists. Anthropologist E.B. Tylor had an interpretation that assisted in influencing future scholars on ideologies of religion and the supernatural. Tylor focused on an anthropological viewpoint, stating that supernatural belief stemmed from explanation of natural phenomena including life and death. Tylor s major contribution to the religious field was his theory of animism and the idea of survivors and through cultural anthropology, he interpreted the supernatural in a way that had not previously been deduced, influencing many key religious thinkers whom were searching for a viewpoint outside of the religious believer s scope. Commonly known as the Father of Anthropology , Edward Burnett Tylor was an English anthropologist who is commonly recognised as a founder in cultural anthropology. God grants insight to Daniel (Babylonian name Belteshazzar), and protection to Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah (Babylonian names Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego). God gives to whom God wants to according to Her plan and purpose. As the Hebrew Bible records, Israel though disobedient was promised that God would restore them. First, in order to put everything in perspective, we must return to the dawn of our universe. In the beginning, nearly fourteen billion years ago, the Big Bang created time and space from a single infinitesimally small point that exploded and released tremendous energy causing the universe to expand as it still is today. Specifically, the energy was in the form of electrons, protons, and neutrons. Protons and neutrons later clumped together to form the nucleus around which electrons orbited to produce the very first atoms, such as hydrogen. In other words, atoms make up the building blocks of all matter. The electrons, protons, and neutrons are the subatomic particles. Hydrogen, the lightest atom, has one proton in its nucleus around which an electron orbits. Clouds of hydrogen atoms formed the primordial nebulae. When the nebulae became thick enough, the hydrogen atoms clumped together, amassing gravity and even more hydrogen atoms to eventually form the core of the stars. After two hydrogen nuclei collided and fused at the high temperatures in the core, the element helium formed in a process called nuclear fusion. Using the ballistic pendulum, and formulas learned in Physics, one can predict the range of the ball when it is shot horizontally. There are several materials that are used to conduct this experiment including: the ballistic pendulum, a balance, at least one sheet of paper, weights, and a calculator. Firstly, before anything else is done, the mass of the ball needs to be calculated. Using the balance, and additional weights if necessary, find the mass of the ball. This will be in grams, so you need to convert that to kilograms. The conversion between grams and kilograms is: 1000g=1kg. The mass of our ball was 69.9g, 0.0696kg. After this is calculated, the height of the bob from the pointer to the table must be calculated and converted to meters. The conversion from centimeters to meters is 100cm=1m. The height of our bob was 12.7cm, .127m. Now we calculate the force of the bob by setting the ball in the bob, and spring back the gun to shoot it. They hypothesised that as well as being extremely vivid, flashbulb memories are also characterised by long lasting accuracy. However, research has shown variation in the evidence supporting this notion, implying that there are a number of factors that influence the accuracy of flashbulb memories. It had also been argued that flashbulb memories cannot be characterised by accuracy at all, a debate that will also be considered. This essay will explore a number of factors that have been suggested by literature and evaluate its validity. Before reviewing the accuracy of flashbulb memory, it is important to consider that not all research supports Brown and Kulik s description of flashbulb memories as highly accurate (1977). For instance, Talarico and Rubin compared the consistency of September 11 terrorist attacks flashbulb memories with everyday memories and found no difference with equal amounts decay in both cases (2003). However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This game can potentially show a side of someone that their friends may not know about them. For example, if there is a girl, Suzie, and her friends give her the choice of, would you rather date Jake or Thomas? Her friends may not know that she has a crush on Thomas and if she answers truthfully, then they would possibly find out about the crush. This example is a small portion of what the big picure is with this game, it is meant to help show who you really are and what your personality is and what your preferences are. The question at hand now would be would I rather have someone follow me around all day while I go about my daily routine undergoing an objective test, or take a series of projective tests. I would definitely go with a series of projective tests. Since I have a pretty good grip on what my personality is and what type of person I am, I am very prone to the Hawthorne Effect. The Hawthorne Effect is a type of reactivity where the individual changes their behavaior becuase they are aware they are being watched (Rosenberg and Kosslyn, 2014). But whenever the locks and chains of law and order are cast off, and anarchy comes in, he shows himself for what he really is. Arthur Schopenhauer In today s world, human behaviours are driven by the civilization preset by society. In the rare occasion that the civilization is taken away, humans unveil their true selves: animals with a savage and evil nature. Jack, who started the story off as simply a selfish British boy now has a compulsion to kill . Jack s evil nature is starting to appear and this nature is swallowing him up . This connects to The Garden of Eden because in that story it is shown that Adam and Eve start out innocent, but as time goes on their natural evil is released and they sin by taking the apple from the tree. The allegory shown by Jack s action exhibits how this story is an example of the unveiling of evil and savage when taken from civilization. The boy s natural savage appears moments after they are released from civilization. Typology in Christian theology and Biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the relationship between the Old and New Testaments . (Merriam Webster 868) Perhaps the single most important concept for understanding early Christianity is typology. Typology is a form of study of literature identifying symbols especially in the Bible. This system of groupings, usually called types, the members of which are identified by postulating specified attributes that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive groupings set up to aid demonstration or inquiry by establishing a limited relationship among phenomena. Typology is interpreted throughout text in American literature such as William Bradford s Plymouth Plantation, Jonathan Edward s Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and Thomas Paine Common Sense. During the Enlightenment, the meaning of Protestant identity became increasingly vague; typology took on the hazy significance of image and symbol; what passed for the divine plan had lost its strict grounding sculpture; providence itself was shaken loose from its religious frame work to became part of the belief in the human progress. The eighteenth century clergy took advantage of this movement to shift the focus of figural authority, from Bible history to the American experience. • 29. Pso Algorithm Is Developed By The Social Behavior Patterns... 3.3 PSO PSO algorithm is developed by the social behavior patterns of the organisms that exist and interact within large groups. As, it converges at a faster rate than the global optimization algorithms, the PSO algorithm is applied for solving various optimization problems easily. In the PSO technique, a population called as a swarm of candidate solutions are encoded as particles in the search space. Initially, PSO begins with the random initialization of the population. These particles move iteratively through the D dimensional search space to search the optimal solutions, by updating the position of each particle. During the movement of the swarm, a vector Xi=(Xi1, Xi2,...., XiD) represents the current position of the particle i . Vi=(Vi1, Vi2,...., ViD) represents the velocity of the particle which is in the range of [−vmax, vmax]. The best previous position of a particle is denoted as personal best Pbest. The global best position obtained by the population is denoted as Gbest. The PSO searches for the optimal solution by updating the velocity and position of each particle, based on the Pbest and Gbest. The next position of the particle in the search space is calculated by using the new velocity value. This process is repeated for a fixed number of times or until a minimum error is achieved. The rate of the change in the velocity and position of the particle is given as v_id=v_id+c_1 r_1 (p_id x_id )+c_2 r_2 (p_gd x_id ) (3.1) x_id=x_id+v_id (3.2) Where c_1 ... Application Of Cellulases On Juice Recovery Application of Cellulases on Juice Recovery Introduction Cellulose is the most abundant compound produced from stalks, leaves, and stems (Shankar, 2011). The use of enzymes in the food industry provides safer and higher quality products. Cellulases are enzymes which break down the sugar cellulose. Cellulase enzymes are produced by fungi, animals, plants, and bacteria. (Zhang 2013) The cellulase enzyme has been used for various industry applications such as the textile industry, paper industry, and juice industry. Cellulases link beta, 1,4 linkages in the cellulose chains (Zhang 2013). There are three types of cellulase enzymes: endoglucanases, exoglucanases, and beta glucosidases. • 42. Technology Is Destroying Empathy And Draws People s... Scholars of empathy like Sherry Turkle believe that technology is destroying empathy and draws people s attention away from reality into an illegitimate virtual reality. She goes as far as to say that You need to suppress your empathy gene in order to participate fully in the mobile [phone] revolution (Turkle 59). Although there are instances where this is true, like the family dinner table, it is not representative of the moments where technology can improve empathy. Video games have been used to influence the way people behave; that includes empathetic behavior. To facilitate the growth of empathy between individuals through prosocial behaviors and indirectly improve empathetic behaviors in society, I propose the creation of the massive multiplayer online game (MMO) T.E.A.M. Crisis: Homefront. Like the title implies, teamwork is a critical component of the gameplay. The general premise is that Earth is being invaded by an extraterrestrial entity known as the Pantheon of Grim. To combat the threat, the Tactical Earth Alliance Militia (TEAM) was established, and this is the organization of which the players are affiliated. Before outlining important gameplay mechanics, the game has to be understood in the context of how I wish to affect empathy. The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man.
