2. What was it?
The selection process separated the people who
were going to live the first day (the strong), and
the people who were going to die the first day
(the weak).
This cruel process separated all the men, women,
children, and elderly.
The process took about 5 hours.

4. The women,
children, and
elderly were
ordered to line
up on the left
hand side
And the men
were ordered
to line up on
the right hand
side
5. After the split…
After everyone was lined up the women, children,
and elderly were forced to shave all of their hair
off
The Nazi Germans kept the shaved hair and used
it to make blankets and clothes
The women and children were then sent to the
cremation centers, where they were pushed into
the fire pit one by one

7. Continued…
The elderly men and women were sent to the gas
chambers
…However, they were being told they were going
to the “showers” for a routine cleaning
The elderly were stripped naked and stacked into
piles of people, as the gas poured over them until
they all died
8.
9. What happened to the men and the others?
The men and others who were considered to be strong
were sent to the barracks
Within the barracks, the civilians were stacked on top of
each other, and some even died.
On average 14 Jews died each night, and each of them
were malnourished as they only were given “soup” to eat
which consisted of water and vegetables.
If Jews were not in place in time they did not receive
their soup
If anyone in the barracks was caught with a vegetable in
their hand at night, and it was not meal time, they were
killed that night.

11. Extras!
30 million Jews were killed the first day
7 million Jews survived the first day
The weak died within 24 hours of when the
selection process started
