The Synergy of Sustainability and Societal Marketing Liliana Chin Lau
The study of this thesis highlights the direct importance of Sustainable Development in businesses. Sustainability presented here is concerned about the future based on three dimensions: Society, Economy and Environment. For this reason it employs the Societal Marketing Concept instead of the traditionally used Selling Concept as a marketing strategy. Selling products is not the only concern of companies anymore. They need to understand the needs of consumers and of society in order to satisfy them. It also utilizes the Corporate Social Responsibility model as one of the fundamental tools for the company to develop its business. Furthermore, this study exposes the essential meaning of Business Ethics when dealing with Sustainability. It is extremely significant for a company to practice Business Ethics otherwise it will have negative results resulting from its behavior. This thesis not only emphasizes Societal Marketing and Sustainability as two disconnected scopes; it also highlights the synergy between them. Synergy is defined as the sum of two and two equaling to five - Yes, five. This means that synergy is a method of combining different business sectors in a way that delivers unexpected results, innovation, and a competitive advantage that all companies seek. Understanding the essential need of synergy and the application with Sustainability and Societal Marketing this study forges a Sustainability Sweet Spot. This synergy between Sustainability and Societal Marketing works in real companies by achieving new products and management methods, as shown in a case study of Natura Cosmetics, a successful Brazilian Company that a leads its industry.
Statistical methods and analyses are used to communicate research findings and give credibility to research methodology and conclusions. It is important for researchers and also consumers of research to understand statistics so that they can be informed, evaluate the credibility and usefulness of information, and make appropriate decisions.

Improving the viability of probiotics by encapsulation methods for developmen...Open Access Research Paper
The popularity of functional foods among scientists and common people has been increasing day by day. Awareness and modernization make the consumer think better regarding food and nutrition. Now a day’s individual knows very well about the relation between food consumption and disease prevalence. Humans have a diversity of microbes in the gut that together form the gut microflora. Probiotics are the health-promoting live microbial cells improve host health through gut and brain connection and fighting against harmful bacteria. Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus are the two bacterial genera which are considered to be probiotic. These good bacteria are facing challenges of viability. There are so many factors such as sensitivity to heat, pH, acidity, osmotic effect, mechanical shear, chemical components, freezing and storage time as well which affects the viability of probiotics in the dairy food matrix as well as in the gut. Multiple efforts have been done in the past and ongoing in present for these beneficial microbial population stability until their destination in the gut. One of a useful technique known as microencapsulation makes the probiotic effective in the diversified conditions and maintain these microbe’s community to the optimum level for achieving targeted benefits. Dairy products are found to be an ideal vehicle for probiotic incorporation. It has been seen that the encapsulated microbial cells show higher viability than the free cells in different processing and storage conditions as well as against bile salts in the gut. They make the food functional when incorporated, without affecting the product sensory characteristics.
UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

Microbial characterisation and identification, and potability of River Kuywa ...Open Access Research Paper
Water contamination is one of the major causes of water borne diseases worldwide. In Kenya, approximately 43% of people lack access to potable water due to human contamination. River Kuywa water is currently experiencing contamination due to human activities. Its water is widely used for domestic, agricultural, industrial and recreational purposes. This study aimed at characterizing bacteria and fungi in river Kuywa water. Water samples were randomly collected from four sites of the river: site A (Matisi), site B (Ngwelo), site C (Nzoia water pump) and site D (Chalicha), during the dry season (January-March 2018) and wet season (April-July 2018) and were transported to Maseno University Microbiology and plant pathology laboratory for analysis. The characterization and identification of bacteria and fungi were carried out using standard microbiological techniques. Nine bacterial genera and three fungi were identified from Kuywa river water. Clostridium spp., Staphylococcus spp., Enterobacter spp., Streptococcus spp., E. coli, Klebsiella spp., Shigella spp., Proteus spp. and Salmonella spp. Fungi were Fusarium oxysporum, Aspergillus flavus complex and Penicillium species. Wet season recorded highest bacterial and fungal counts (6.61-7.66 and 3.83-6.75cfu/ml) respectively. The results indicated that the river Kuywa water is polluted and therefore unsafe for human consumption before treatment. It is therefore recommended that the communities to ensure that they boil water especially for drinking.

2. 2
Natura Giuridica by Andrea Quaranta, environmental jurist, Environmental risk and crisis
manager, is an enterprise which provides consultancies, training, information and continuous
updating about environmental and energy law.
SHORT PROFILE OF THE HOLDER
The holder, Andrea Quaranta, graduated in Law at the
University of Turin (Università degli Studi di Torino) in
October 2001; in 2002 he attended a master in environmental
law and, soon after the postgraduate course, he started a
collaboration with one of the most prestigious law firms in
Rome specialized in environmental law.
During the six and a half years into the above mentioned
Legal Firm, he worked on criminal litigations and
administrative cases and, most of all, he provided
environmental law consultancies – by helping companies and
public administrations in the difficult management of
complex environmental issues – with particular reference to:
Renewable energy;
Waste disposal;
Remediation of contaminated sites;
Protection of water;
Air pollution;
Environmental damage;
Noise and electromagnetic pollution.
Andrea Quaranta is environmental risk and crisis manager, environmental jurist, professor in
several training courses, spokesman in conventions and meetings about environmental and energy
law.
Since 2002 he has collaborated with scientific journals such as Ambiente-Consulenza e pratica per
l’impresa, Ambiente & Sviluppo e Il Quotidiano IPSOA – Professionalità quotidiana, published by
Ipsoa, Ambiente & Sicurezza sul lavoro, published by EPC and ECO, DEA edizioni, for which he
has written more than 500 scientific articles about environmental and energy law.
He took part into the writing up of some volumes about environment and he published the manual
“La consulenza giuridica nelle fonti rinnovabili” (“The juridical consulting in renewable sources”)
in 2002 with the publishing house Flaccovio in Palermo and in 2013 the e-book “I nuovi incentivi
3. 3
economici e fiscali per le rinnovabili” (“The
new financial and tax incentives for
renewable sources”)
He coordinated the writing up of the
manual “Responsabilità ambientale &
Assicurazioni (“Environmental
responsibilities and Insurances”) (2014),
published by IPSOA.
He cooperates with the Associazione
Giuristi Ambientali starting from its foundation, for which he has published a lot of articles.
He cooperated, as a consultant, with the association Borghi Autentici d’Italia.
The Customers of Natura Giuridica are big companies and PMI, belonging to all product markets
(environmental problems are cross-sectional), municipalities and other institutions.
WHY NATURA GIURIDICA
Italian environmental law is characterized by a continuous sequence of standards, nearly always
issued without a framework and often contradictory.
The consequences are: uncertainty of law, overlapping of rules and conflicts of responsibilities (the
so called "inquinamento legislativo"-“legislative pollution”), which are confusing for the
environment business operators, the administrative authorities in charge of releasing permissions,
the surveillance authorities and the judge.
In this context, a new professional is emerging in the last few years and it’s going to achieve a
more and more essential role in the management of environmental problems: the Environmental
risk and crisis manager (ERM).
Natura Giuridica was created after the multiannual experience gained by its holder in this field as
an environmental legal consultant .
Natura Giuridica by Andrea Quaranta carries out the environmental consulting together with
some Law Firms and other qualified professionals in the technical-financial field, able to provide
the help required to fully meet the needs of the customer.
In order to update and keep in touch with its public, Natura Giuridica uses a web-based platform
made up of an institutional web-site (www.naturagiuridica.com) and of a eco-blog
(http://naturagiuridica.blogspot.com).
4. 4
On the web-site you can find the
legislation, an archive of the most
significant judgments with comments,
a series of scientific investigations and,
for this reason, it is addressed to a public for whom the issues about environmental and energy law
are familiar for technical- juridical-business interests.
The blog, instead, gathers articles, updates and comments about the main
problems of the Law and of the Italian environmental policy in order to spread
and share a comprehensible environmental communication and information,
in-depth and objective, addressed to a wider public interested in the
environmental and energy issues of the Country.
The idea of the web-site was born and developed around the need to provide the customer a global,
efficient and rapid assistance in the environmental and energetic field.
The web, in fact – for its own nature – is the ideal instrument, because:
simplifies and rationalizes the search for regulatory documentations (which is huge and
comes from different institutional, national and EU authorities);
allows the synergy among experts in different subjects (law, economics, chemistry, physics,
biology, engineering,…), who cooperate in the management of the complex environmental
problems;
ensures a general assistance about environment
(information, documentation, consulting, training)
and, in the meanwhile, it is tailor made (by taking
into consideration the specific needs of each single
customer );
allows a more advantageous and immediate
interaction with the customer and, in the end,
has very rapid times of communication.
5. 5
THE ROLE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL RISK AND CRISIS MANAGER
The Environmental risk and crisis manager has a strategic importance in support of both
companies and public administrations, for:
"administrative sustainability": in this context, the ERM has an important function of
support of the bureaucratic - administrative activity of companies which often meet
difficulties in the management of the complex and not coordinated legislation about
environment and energy, due to the lack of deep
specialised competences, essential to face the
continuous changing of the discipline;
"economic sustainability": through a specific
environmental consultancy, which analyses the
single case in the perspective of the regional,
national and EU legislation, the ERM offers a
service which has a preventive function of the
several, long, intricate, uncertain and expensive
legal proceedings, caused – usually – by the non
correct application of the provisions on this field, created by the inadequacy of means and
personnel available and by the lack of constant and necessary updating which only an
expert, such as the Environmental jurist is able to offer;
The ERM, thanks to his qualified experience in the field, shall promote the culture of
"environmental sustainability", not only from the technical-didactic-theoretical point of
view (teaching at masters , specialization and training courses, participation in conferences,
panels, workshops about the subject, publication of scientific and informative articles), but
also from the operative one (designing and developing of programs for environmental
sustainability; promoting eco-friendly and eco-sustainable instruments). The environmental
consultancy in collaboration with Borghi Autentici d'Italia is fully part of this second
branch of sustainability.
In the "judicial" phase, the ERM helps the lawyer in lawsuits in Courts, by providing him that
qualified specialized advice about environmental and energy law which he is often not able to give
to the customer due to the vastness of the world of the Law and its continuous and uncoordinated
modification.
6. 6
