The goal for Swisscom was to be able to offer one ID Broker for all services, so that subscribers essentially would be able to “Bring Your Own Identity” (BYOI). If not done this way, each application or service offered by Swisscom would have required a connection with each IDP. By implementing a ForgeRock solution, Swisscom was able to reduce costs spent on administration and significantly upgrade ease of use for the customer base, while also increasing sharing options across service offerings.

One of the most famous brands and by far the biggest telco provider in Switzerland, Swisscom takes a very pro-active approach to security and creating a trusting environment for its customers. Because Swisscom provides such a broad range of services – landline and mobile phone, mobile payments, cloud data hosting, health records storage and so much more – it required powerful Identity and Access Management (IAM) capabilities. The company’s security vision and overall goal was all about data protection, privacy and sharing, yet also to give subscribers the power to determine what to share, with whom and through the channel of their choice. To implement this vision, the company built out its own Swisscom Cloud architecture with an Identity Broker (IDB) component powered by ForgeRock technologies. By implementing a ForgeRock solution, Swisscom was able to reduce costs spent on administration and significantly upgrade ease of use for its customer base, while also increasing sharing options across service offerings.

Rob Ojevaar, IAM Architect, Zalando
Zalando is a publicly traded e-commerce company with more than 16 million active
customers in 15 European markets. These customers speak many different languages, have
different tastes in products and styles, prefer different payment and shipping methods—and
require non-stop innovation. Until very recently, our focus on identity and access management has been somewhat unclear—leading to inconsistencies that our explosive growth couldn’t sustain indefinitely. With the adoption of a tech management strategy called Radical Agility, which emphasizes autonomy and trust, we’ve not only rethought the way we build our systems, but also changed our perception of IAM. Following the motto “You build it, you run it,” our newly formed, autonomous teams are now responsible end-to-end for their own applications – which means they are also entrusted with securing them.
In this talk, Zalando software engineers Daniel del Hoyo, Mihai-Aurelian Dumitrescu and
Everett architect Rob Ojevaar will talk about how Zalando is transitioning to a cloud-based
infrastructure that allows growing flexibility and abstraction. They’ll discuss how their team is
supporting IAM to maximize stability and versatility. They will demonstrate how Narwhal,
Zalando’s API framework for OpenAM, can help to solve challenges such as providing a
stable interface during updates to the ForgeRock stack. Finally, they will demonstrate how Unicorn, a Zalando’s user-oriented interface, has helped the engineering team to use and
explain OpenAM and identity management to recruiters, customer care agents and other non-technical users - making the myth reality.
Digital transformation increases agility and the capacity for innovation in enterprises. Although businesses are increasingly adopting this concept, whether they are reaping the true benefits or not is the question.
The first step in digital transformation would be to expose your core functionality to a wider audience in a controlled and secure manner. The next step would be to compose your capabilities into new products and provide value to new markets. To do this you need to have a strong integration and API management strategy that goes hand in hand with analytics. Secure, intelligent APIs and dynamic integration allows you to reap the real benefits of digital transformation and open new revenue channels.

APidays Paris 2019 - API-First vs Data Driven Architecture by Jerome Louvel, ...apidays
The document discusses the differences between API-first and data-driven architecture styles. It argues that while they may seem opposed, with APIs largely built upon data, the styles can be bridged. A hybrid integration approach is suggested, combining API and data integration to support both styles. The role of APIs in digital business is to provide experiences, while being built upon a foundation of integrated, high-quality data. Choosing the best of both styles results in a digital architecture that is fast, delightful, trustworthy and insightful.

This document discusses the challenges of scaling SaaS businesses and whether APIs provide a better path for startups focused on fintech and B2B. While SaaS promised infinite scale through a single codebase, regulations and the need for customization have limited its effectiveness. APIs may offer more flexibility by allowing companies to serve smaller customer segments through infrastructure that supports the API business model. However, the document cautions that simply publishing an API is not enough and maturity, demand, revenue, and scale still need to be achieved to succeed with an API-focused approach.

The document discusses achieving business agility through APIs. It states that while software has allowed for more customer engagement and process automation, software also has limitations in terms of agility. APIs can help overcome these limitations by removing restrictions and allowing data to be connected and accessed across various digital channels like social media, mobile apps, cloud services, and IoT devices. This brings together a business's digital ecosystem and allows them to continuously engage customers, extend their reach, access new ideas, innovate, and stay ahead of competitors to achieve the next level of agility.

GSC Platform aims to disrupt the aviation industry by providing traceability of spare parts using blockchain technology. Their blockchain ecosystem will include a Traceability Blockchain to track parts from manufacturer to end user, guaranteeing the parts followed a safe process. It will also include a Smart Purchases Blockchain to streamline purchasing protocols and reduce costs. Currently, purchasing processes take 55 days on average but GSC Platform claims it can reduce that to 23 days by automating tasks and providing secure supplier and part data on the blockchain. This will allow buyers to focus on value-added work and improve company margins. GSC Platform plans to generate revenue through monthly subscriptions and transaction commissions on their blockchain services.
A data-centric platform integrates multiple Big Data open source technologies. For example, at Stratio we use Spark, Kafka, Elastic search and many more. Most of these technologies do not offer native security. This lack of security, not only leaves companies open to critical risks like data leakage, unsecure communications or DoS attacks but is also a major barrier to complying with different regulations such as LOPD, PCI-DSS or the upcoming GDPR. This talk gives a technical and innovative overview of how companies can face the challenge of protecting the data and services that are in their data-centric platform, focusing on three main aspects: implementing network segmentation, managing AAA and securing data processing.

HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?

NEW ARCHITECTURS have emerged over the last 10 years
Designed to ADDRESS COMMON FRICTION points of legacy monolithic commerce systems
OK, so lets talk architecture.
Monolithic architectures, like Oracle Commerce, Websphere and Hybris put everything into one giant application.
Totally a great idea at the time
Was super fast
Allowed scalability
Fast processing
Microservices, meanwhile are a collection of little apps
Each with its own database and process
Advances in networking and computing make this technology feasible – wasn’t in the past
One failure doesn’t sink the ship
You can change the parts easily without turning the whole thing off
Legacy systems often punish experimentation
- QA
- ONE THING BREAKS and takes the whole ship with it
- COMPLICATED CODE
- FRONT AND BACK END are intertwined
- Need to KEEP THE PLANE FLYING at all times
In contrast microservices
- COMPARTMENTALIZE the changes
- If one thing breaks, NOT EVERYTHING BREAKS
- And if its truly busted, you can FIX FORWARD and roll out the specific service and restart it, while remaining transactional
New microservices platforms speed up development
NO REGRESSION QA before launch
LAUNCH ANY TIME – not in giant bundles
LESS DEPENDANCIES
MORE RESILLIANCE
LESS RISK
FAST TO FAIL
COMPARTMENTALIZE RISK - Microservices let you keep the risk of changes or experimentation limited to the place you are experimenting with
ITS OK TO FAIL - Breaking things isn’t a catastrophe
DEPLOY IN MINUTES - Deployments can be minutes instead of hours
You don’t need to bust caches, bring in your development team, the whole deal. Its faster
SUPPORTS AGILE DEVELOPMENT
Graceful failure
Not everything assumes everything else will always be there
Modern architectures leverage PROVEN OPEN SOURCE TECHNOLOGIES at all levels of the code
Makes it easier to find people – you aren’t looking for an obscure technology engineer, but instead using COMMON TECHNOLOGIES
Modern architecture means INTEGRATIONS ARE EASIER – everything is modern
SCALE JUST THE MICROSERVICE you care about – you don’t need to lift all the boats, just the one that is sinking
This is all proven, it really works!
So all that sounds rad.
I think its worth exploring a new platform
But how do I get there? Isn’t this scary??
Its totally scary
Replatform
Gut it out
Ignore it
Hope for the best
Give up and outsource
And like, every rip and replacement I’ve heard of went terribly
No one wants another big bang
To much revenue on the line
Paying 2x licenses
Hope!
You don’t have to throw it away
You can slowly deprecate it. Or strangle it. Depends on how friendly you are with your legacy system.
The strangler pattern lets you
Keep the things that work the way you want
Build new stuff – the new requirements – on the new system while protecting the old one
Migrations don’t stall out the business – you don’t have to focus on developing features for the OLD and the NEW systems at the same time
No big bang!
SO HOW??
Also, it kills the big bang.
Start by taking a small part of your existing app, and hand its functionality to a microservice
Typically we see PIM or Personalization as a first step
Then, as time goes on, you add more and more microservices, which replace the existing stuff
Over time, you get a fully migrated system, but your customers and users won’t know it
Protect what works, move at your pace
Also, it kills the big bang.

Plus, during the migration, you can develop new functionality for the new system and put it into production immediately
No development in two places at the same time
Ok, let’s talk about infrastructure. This is the framework, the home that your microservices live in and the plumbing that connects them. And building it out can be one of the biggest and most time-consuming challenges for a team moving to microservices. We’ve done the legwork for you so you won’t have to start from scratch building your orchestration and messaging layers and all the other pieces you need... and you won’t have to battle through the learning curve that comes with each of them.
For you technical folks in the room, our framework uses best-of-breed, open source technologies you see listed here.
And Skava’s microservices come with the business tools to accelerate your time to market and make your solutions easy to use day to day without IT involvement.
And that raises a key point -- digital commerce is constantly evolving. That last thing you want to do is swap out one legacy platform for another. Skava Commerce is modular, which means you can use the individual pieces of the platform and customize and extend them independently.
Unlike monoliths where you have to keep the entire application running, with Skava you have ultimate flexibility to swap components in and out – you’re not forced to upgrade and maintain the entire solution as a single unit.
And you can also bring your own microservices and plug them into the framework. You can use our ready-to-use infrastructure to build your own custom microservices or use the technologies and frameworks of your choice. They’ll work in our environment.
As you probably know, Skava Commerce is architected from the ground up as an end-to-end platform of microservices. You can choose to implement the entire suite, or, thanks to the modularity of our platform you can pick and choose from our set of pre-built microservices and use only what you need. And you can do this either as part of a full-on Build-Your-Own-Platform initiative or as part of a process of enhancing your existing platform piece by piece.
