- 3. © Knct Lab | www.knctlab.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harnessing the power of mobile phones to bridge the digital divide • One cannot talk of empowering women digitally and ignore the ubiquitous mobile phone, especially in the developing world • According to the mobile operators association, Groupe Special Mobile Association (GSMA), there are now 4.7 billion connected people on the planet, and of these, 3.2 billion access the Internet via a mobile instrument. • The GSMA points out in a report that the gap between male and female mobile phone users stands at 200 million, with male mobile users in greater numbers.
