 The purpose of the Undergraduate Programs Office Academic Advising unit is to enhance the total development of McCombs undergraduate students through academic advising and making appropriate referrals.  Each undergraduate student is assigned to an academic advisor who will work with the student until graduation. The Graduate Intern assists the Orientation Coordinators with the implementation of program activities, support and evaluation that benefit the undergraduate student population. Specific programs the Intern will work with include:  McCombs New Student Orientation; Academic Advising and First Year Interest Group planning.  <br />Specific Goals to be met:<br />• Assist with the coordination of the McCombs New Student Summer Orientation (emphasis on publicizing programs to newly admitted students<br />• Assist with training student Orientation Advisors (OAs)• Create and maintain database of newly admitted transfer students<br />• Consult with Business Transfer Student Association (BTSA) to develop new ideas for implementation at New Student Orientation<br />• Monitor academic progress of first-year students on scholastic probation• Assist with logistics/planning for Fall 2010 First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs)<br />• Attend weekly meeting with Assistant Director and Lead Trainer <br />• Assist with revision of McCombs Student Handbook given at orientation<br />• Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Advising and Lead Trainer<br />Expected Learning Outcomes:<br />• To learn academic advising techniques and McCombs BBA curriculum<br />• To advise first year students <br />• To utilize marketing research skills to improve programs and services• To develop/enhance assessment skills as they relate to the Academic Advising Program <br />Additional Conditions:  Dress will be determined by orientation duties.<br />Faculty Contact (for evaluation letter):

Along with assisting in the overall implementation of LEI events, the position will conduct research related to the overall goals of LEI and in conjunction with the advancement and improvement of LEI programs. <br />Specific Goals to be met: <br />,[object Object]
Help plan the logistics for the Evening of the Stars watch party and other assorted LEI programs
Serve as a mentor for LEI students

Kameen<br />Dean’s Office, College of Education<br />SZB 210 D5000<br />Sample Internship Weekly Log<br />Craig Gilden: Intern at St. Edwards University – Office of Student Life<br />9/24/10: 10 – 1<br />I sat through the Holy Cross training session for new employees today. A big reason I wanted to intern with St. Edward’s is to learn about what it would be like to work at a religious institution, since many smaller colleges and universities are tied to religion. The session was interesting and informative, but it still left with questions about how it would influence the day-to-day working environment that I hope to find out through talking with Student Life employees. <br />10/14/10: 12:30 – 7<br />I mostly conducted one-on-one meetings with the different staff members as a way to learn more about what they do and ask questions about their journey in the student affairs profession. I learned a ton about how the Catholic Church influences the actions of those that work in Student Life. My take away from it is that before I could work at a religious institution I would really need to investigate the school and make sure I feel I could honestly work in their parameters. I also received some great information about how to use conferences and the job search process. In the late afternoon I helped setup a school concert, which allowed me to see some large scale programming in action. <br />Evelyn Meisell:  Intern with UT Athletics – Football Academics<br />8/30 - 4 Hours<br />Today continued my prep work with my supervisor.  We discussed current issues going on with the student-athletes including registration, add/drops and eligibility.  I took a tour of the academic facility, and met more of the full-time staff.  My first mini-project was to re-vamp the Mentor/Tutor Report.  This document is used each time a student-athlete meets with a mentor or tutor, and makes up the information in the coaches’ reports.  I will be creating the weekly coaches’ reports for defensive ends, running backs and tight ends.  Students are separated in the academic center by position – rather than alphabetical or by major.  With this setup, coaches and academic advisors can be in constant contact regarding the academic status of a player.<br />11/8 - 4 Hours<br />The morale of the student-athletes is very low this week due to the losses over the season. The travelling to out-of-state games plus the back-to-back losses puts quite a bit of stress on the students.  <br />#1 came to study hall early, and on time.  We talked about his major (currently undeclared in the College of Education).  He has been thinking about transferring to Social Work, but now he is leaning more towards a degree in Youth and Community Studies.  <br />,[object Object]
