Growing Agility ebook - Nokia - #SmarterEverydayNokia
What is Growing Agility? Well, firstly it’s the latest ebook in the Smarter Everyday series, but beyond that, it’s a concept that we hope you’ll find useful in your working life.
As you’re bound to have experienced, you can’t predict and plan for every eventuality, and you can’t control the external factors that influence your business. What you do have control over is how you respond. That’s what growing agility is about: becoming more flexible in your behaviour, and developing the ability to dodge, jump, tackle or even pick yourself up after being hit by those curveballs that work can throw at you; whether it’s getting feedback that’s hard to swallow, losing out on a promotion, or a unsuccessful project.
The purpose of this toolkit is to use a brainstorming technique to come up with creative ideas respond to the challenge of providing aftercare support for vulnerable learners. To use the ideas from the brainstorming session to inform the development of a draft set of ideas for an aftercare strategy.
Teams That Flow ebook - Nokia #SmarterEverydayNokia
Flow is the psychological description of those really satisfying occasions
at work: you’re productive, engaged, confident and operating at your full potential. When a team is in flow, it’s innovative, harmonious and productive. Being part of it improves the performance of each member. Communication is purposeful and clear. Friction is seen as an opportunity, not a personal threat. Location and time zones pose no barriers. The balance is just right, and everything flows.
This book is a guide to building a team that flows. We’re going to begin with the theory, explaining the concepts and elements you need to create flow, before moving onto the practicalities of harnessing the power of collaboration,
working alongside technology, and leading a more productive working life within any team.

Question 2 Using the case study Innovation Teams at the Walt Disney (S.docxKevinVXECampbelle
Question 2 Using the case study Innovation Teams at the Walt Disney (Schilling, 2017, pp. 265), discuss the way in which different types of team structure affect new product development process. Using information in the case study and from your own research, provide your own recommendations and limitations of the management of new product development teams. Managing New Product Development Teams Innovation Teams at the Walt Disney Company The Walt Disney Company is probably the best known entertainment company in the world. Founded in 1923 as a producer of animated films, it grew to become an entertainment conglomerate that includes theme parks, live action film production, television, publishing, retail, and more. In 2014, it earned over $48 billion in revenues and had 180,000 employees. 2 Despite the range of its businesses, most of them (with some notable exceptions) leverage the same key competitive advantage: the magical and wholesome stories and characters of its animated films. The Making of an Animated Film In the very early stages of generating and refining an idea for a movie, the development department assembles a small incubation team that indudes a director, a writer, some artists, and some storyboard people. " This team draws storyboards that are edited together with dialogue and temporary music, creating "story reels." These story reels show the sequence of the movie and help the team craft and refine the story into one that will have visual and emotional appeal. They also help to reveal problems that have to be solved, which tend to be numerous in the early stages of production." Once approved for development, a typical movie enters production using computer-aided design (CAD) systems. Artists would create a model in a CAD system, which could then apply mathematical models to simulate lifelike textures, movement, and lighting. d This computing intensive phase was also managed by small autonomous teams, each focused on a particular specialty such as Tech Support, Renderfarm, and Post Production. Disney's Director of Systems, Jonathan Geibel, had noticed that when teams had seven or more participants, individual contribution would drop significantly, lowering the quality of the discussion. Geibel thus determined that teams should only have between two and six people, including one who would be designated as a Team Lead. Team Leads were chosen because of their technical expertise and their vision for the project. Their seniority played little role-rather they were chosen based on how compelling their vision was, and how good management thought they would be in driving the progress of the team. The 265 implementing Technological innovation Strategy remaining employees were assigned as "primary" members to a particular team to which they would give most of their time and effort and might also serve as "secondary" members on other teams when those teams needed their help." Workspace and Collocation Geibel was also concemed about how.

Ultimately we’re all fighting for users, but which ideas will win their favor? Sometimes, in the battle arena of meetings, requirements and design reviews, the loudest voice gets heard but not necessarily the best. Sometimes design sensibilities and user feedback take a backseat to politics, short-term goals or decisions by committee. In this talk you’ll learn more about a few useful weapons, such as gamestorming and design critiques, to make sure the best ideas win.

3. Developing Successful Strategies Towards Becoming a
Profitable, Self-Sustaining Industry
• During this workshop, we will look at the key challenges faced by the
industries along the energy storage and smart-grid value-chains
• Using the collective power of cross-functional teams from different parts of
the value-chain, we will brainstorm to identify the important issues and come
up with creative, relevant solutions.
• Examples of issues include:
– Reliance on government subsidies
– Cost of power generation relative to incumbent technologies
– Rising cost of raw materials for energy storage and distribution
– Expectation of customer needs (such as for EV’s to be greater than 100 miles range;
expectation of quick charge)
– Power grid infrastructure (distribution grid was built for the 20th century)
– Business models rely on large, centralized energy generation. Need for decentralization
– System of producing and immediate usage is a hindrance. Storage technologies need to
improve significantly. Grid designed for centralized storage
• The goal is to make the value-chain profitable and self-sustaining

TRIZ
TRIZ is the Russian acronym for “Theory of
Inventive Problem Solving” first developed in 1946
by Altshuller, a patent agent in the Soviet Navy in
the former USSR.
More than three million patents have been
analyzed to identify patterns that could predict
breakthrough solutions to problems.
The method is logic-based and relies on the
study of patterns of problems and solutions rather
than the spontaneous and intuitive creativity of
individuals or groups.
TRIZ can provide repeatability, predictability and Genrich Saulovich Altshuller

7. Idea Generation - Intuitive
Dali used the creativity technique of hypnogogic imagery to create
some of his most powerful images
– Think about your problem
– Totally relax your body
– Quiet your mind
– Quiet your eyes – If you fall asleep easily, hold a spoon
loosely in one of your hands. You can enter the
hypnogogic state this way, and should you begin to fall
asleep, you will drop the spoon and awaken in time to
capture the images
– Record your images immediately after they occur
– Look for the associative link – write down the first things
that occur to you after your experience Ask questions:
• What puzzles me?
• Any new insights?
• What’s out of place?
• What disturbs me?

"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"
Keith Richards states that he came up with
the guitar riff for the song in his sleep.
The song is considered to be one of the all-
time great rock songs.
Waking up in the middle of the night,
Richards recorded the riff and the words "I
can't get no satisfaction" on a cassette
recorder and promptly fell back to sleep.
The tape was described later by Richards
as "two minutes of 'Satisfaction' and 40
minutes of me snoring.”
Keith Richards
He and Mick Jagger finished writing the The Rolling Stones
song in Clearwater, Florida in May 1965.
