I have a number of different ideas for the website and how we could make it appeal to all
the different audiences but as we have chosen to develop our advertisement around the
younger audience, I will have to base my ideas around that audience. As we are basing our
advertisement around people who would like to attend the college, most people won’t have
a car at that age and would be interested in what public transport is available to and from
the college. This could easily be displayed with a map of the local bus routes and time
estimates of how it would take to get to several different popular destinations. This is the
first thing that the viewer will want to know is how long it willtake them to get to the
college, so they can plan their journey and take a look at the different forms of transport.
This will make the students more interested in going to the college as most people don’t
want to travel very far, to and from college. We need to highlight all the different forms of
transport that can be used to and from the college, so that they can see the wide variety
available.
After we have shared as much information as we can on transport we will then have to
advertise the wide variety of courses available on the campus. Of course we will be looking
at the most popular courses available but we will also show some rare courses that you
don’t see in a lot of colleges. We will have to make sure that we get across as many courses
as we can in the shortest amount of time, I think that this could be best done with the
names of all the different courses fading in and out over a clip of the college building. This
will allow us to get the most variety of courses without having to go through them all
individually, but of course we will expand on some of the more popular courses.
As we are basing our video on Photography, most of our video will be based around that
course and some minor details throughout the rest of the video. We will be including some
interviews with fellow students in their usual working environment to give the viewers a
feeling of how it would be if they chose that course. I think that if we were to put them in
their usual working environment they could have some of their past work surrounding them
so the viewer could get a feel of what type of work is being created by the students that are
attending the college and doing the course. It would also give the viewer a feel of how much
work they will have to do and in which genres they will be doing photography in.This will be
the deciding factor for the student as they will want to know what they would be doing if
they chose the course.
For the introduction of the video we could have a few clips of the photography classroom
using a tripod to keep the camera steady while panning across the room. This will be very
important for the potential student to see the classroom that they could be working in some
time in the future. Over the top of the clips I was thinking of putting the audio from the
interview with the teacher and then finally showing going back to the teacher after the tour
of classroom is done. Something else that could work nicely with the video is an actual tour,
where we walk in to all the different rooms and the teacher describes exactly what they do
in that room. This would include having the teacher in the frame and possibly a few
students working away while the tour is being given, this will create the atmosphere that it
is just a normal day so they can see what that is like. After the tour has been given we would
then cut back to some of the interviews with the different students.
When we are finally editing the clip together we need to make sure that the video is capable
of being viewed on a number of different platforms so that we can get the widest range of
viewers. This would mean that we would probably have to render the video in Mp4 so that
the video can be uploaded to the internet put on a disc and still have the best quality. Using
Mp4 as the main file will hugely increase the load time for when people are trying to view
this online, but overall it will be a lot better and easier. It is very important that we try and
keep the video at its best quality as most people don’t want to watch a low resolution video
where you can’t understand what they are saying or see what they are doing. To try and get
the best quality but also keeping the file size low so that it will load quickly on the internet
we will be rendering the video in 720p. Although that will make the file size a bit bigger than
in 480p, I still think that the little extra size of the file will be worth the huge quality
improvement.
Throughout the video I think that there should be some very quiet background music which
sets the mood, but the music would have to be peaceful and have no singing in it so that the
person watching gets distracted. Using a particular style of music can set the scene for the
video, and changes the attitude to the person watching and put them in a happy mood and
makes it easier to watch. During the transition between each scene we could use bright
colours and quick dynamic transitions that keep the audio and video flowing smoothly
without actually interrupting the experience of watching the video.
