He began his journey in front of the White House and ran through Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York before arriving in Canada. His motivation was to help the nearly one billion people who suffer from chronic hunger and the over 25,000 who die from hunger every day.

Feast and Famine
Henry was inspired to start the Hunger 500 event after attending a World Hunger Summit in 2010 where he heard stories of ordinary people taking extraordinary actions to raise awareness of hunger issues. He trained for six months to be physically and mentally prepared for the 500 mile run. The run was intended to bring attention to the fact that while enough food is produced globally, many still face malnutrition. Henry's run ultimately raised $10,000 and partnered with several hunger-focused organizations in their efforts.

Joseph Henry, an MPH candidate, ran over 17 days from Washington D.C. to Ontario, Canada to raise awareness about hunger and poverty issues. He ran 500 miles to inspire donations to fight world hunger, with a goal of raising $100,000 which could feed 25,000 school children one meal. To prepare, Joe changed his vegetarian diet and underwent rigorous training, including running 30 miles per day and winter training in cold mountains. Though some saw his efforts as "crazy", Joe used his endurance to inspire donations and highlight global hunger, believing his actions could have a lasting, long-term effect.

- 1. HUNGER Social Entrepreneur: Joseph Henry - Hunger 500

INTRODUCTION – JOSEPH HENRY He attended the Universities Fighting World Hunger (UFWH) Summit in South Alabama 2010 and realised that millions of people around the world suffer from millions of hunger. He was inspired when he heard about stories of normal people doing extraordinary feats for the needy. This made him to take on the challenge of Hunger 500, completing 500miles to raise awareness and to raise $100,000 for the United Nation Food Programme to fight world hunger.
- 3. INTRODUCTION – JOSEPH HENRY As he was a runner, he have always been interested in doing long-distance, point-to-point runs. Henry has run as much as 50 miles in one day. He plans to complete 30 miles per day in the 17 day Hunger 500 campaign. He had to give up his precious time to train and to prepare himself for the Hunger 500 run.

HISTORY OF JOSEPH HENRY VENTURE To prepare for this run, he trained for six months, lifting weights and working with a trainer He hopes to raise $100,000 for the United Nations World Food Program along the way and will stop at other universities to talk to students, media and others “There is no bigger issue in the world than extreme hunger and poverty, and the solution requires involvement from every individual”, said Joseph Henry.

IMPACT OF JOSEPH HENRY VENTURE His journey will help raise awareness for both the hunger conference and the need for people to join together to find creative solutions to combating global hunger.
