The document compares and contrasts the present perfect and past simple tenses in English. The present perfect is used to talk about past events connected to the present, while the past simple talks about finished events solely in the past. Examples are provided to illustrate proper usage of each tense. Mistakes to avoid, such as using the present perfect with specific past time references, are also explained. The differences between the present perfect simple and present perfect continuous are outlined.

1. The document discusses challenges for museums in developing digital programs and building innovative, creative practices. It argues the key challenge is not resistance to digital, but rather a lack of organizational capacity for creative freedom.
2. The author proposes several initiatives for their museum to develop digital skills across departments and seed a culture of collaboration. This includes pilot programs to experiment with new audiences and external partners, as well as regular events to facilitate connections.
3. An example future makers program is described that brought gaming and maker communities into the museum space to prototype wearables and hack technologies in the collection, engaging new audiences. The goal is to prove the museum's interconnectivity and mobilize digital communities.
Designing Useful and Usable Augmented Reality Experiences Yan Xu
Dr. Yan Xu gave a presentation on designing useful and usable augmented reality experiences. Some key points:
- AR design requires considering the material properties of AR like spatial interaction, context awareness, and shared perspectives. Research-through-design and iterative prototyping are important approaches.
- Data-driven and theory-driven design methods can help address challenges like the chicken-and-egg problem of needing data before finalizing a design and dealing with large amounts of probabilistic or uncertain data.
- When designing for AR, it's important to consider why AR - for personal use cases, for different disciplines, and at different levels of engagement. The goal should be creating meaningful experiences that benefit people.

This document discusses design methodologies and metadesign. It defines methodology as the critical study of methods from a theoretical perspective, while method refers to techniques used to achieve results. Design methodologies are based on worldview, theory, and experience. Agile methodology focuses on iterations and user dialogue. Metadesign involves designers redesigning their own processes to deal with new complex problems. It discusses abstraction levels, diagrams, parametric design, emergence, and criticisms of excessive formalization through technology. Alternative approaches like Arquitetura Livre emphasize informalization over formalization and multiple perspectives.
This document discusses steps for designing and prototyping useful apps, including brainstorming ideas and prototyping one's own app. It recommends starting with defining the app's purpose and goals. Key steps include developing personas based on user research, creating storyboards to map user flows, and building paper prototypes to test design ideas with users before implementing a digital prototype. The overall process emphasizes user-centered design and rapid prototyping to get feedback early in the design cycle.
Sara Jones presented on information spaces for creative design. She discussed creativity research at City University London, including techniques used in creativity workshops like brainstorming. She described technologies like interactive surfaces and digitally augmented spaces that can support creativity. These include software tools, as well as the Creative Design Stations being developed at City University to support collaborative creativity through features like shared whiteboards, access to references, and creation of outputs. Future work involves further evaluating techniques and technologies through case studies.
This document discusses Richard Buchanan's views on design thinking and "wicked problems" in design. It makes three key points:
1. Design problems are often "wicked problems" that are indeterminate, have incomplete requirements, and lack clear solutions unlike problems addressed by other disciplines. This challenges linear models of the design process.
2. Communicating between designers and scientists is difficult as they have different specialized approaches, yet both use design thinking. Wicked problems require an integrative approach.
3. Buchanan argues that design should be considered a new "liberal art" that uses synthesis to integrate ideas across disciplines to address complex problems in society, not just a technical skill.
The document outlines the agenda for a two-day symposium on creative making in libraries and museums, including discussions on critical making, how making impacts cultural institutions, and examples of making activities like 3D printing, robotics, and using materials like LEGOs.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
9. “In one philosophy one thinks of form or design as primarily
conceptual or cerebral, something to be generated as a pure
thought in isolation from the messy world of matter and energy. The
opposite stance would be represented by a philosophy of design in
which materials are not inert receptacles for a cerebral form
imposed from the outside, but active participants in the genesis of
form.”
