The document discusses diagrid structural systems used in tall buildings. A diagrid system uses a triangular configuration of diagonal members on the building facade instead of vertical columns. This provides structural efficiency by resisting lateral loads through axial forces in the diagonals rather than bending in columns. Diagrid structures have fewer obstructions, allowing greater design flexibility. Optimal diagrid module angles are between 60-70 degrees. Examples of diagrid buildings mentioned include the Swiss Re Tower in London and Guangzhou West Tower in China.

The document discusses architecture and town planning. It defines architecture as the process of planning, designing, and constructing buildings. Town planning is defined as arranging land use and infrastructure to maximize convenience, economy, and beauty for communities. The document then outlines various architectural styles throughout history from Neolithic to modern times. It also discusses objectives of town planning such as creating healthy environments, providing amenities, and preserving individual town character. Principles of town planning include zoning, housing provision, transportation infrastructure, and reserving open spaces. The document provides examples of architectural structures in Pakistan and principles of establishing a new town.
One World Trade Center is a 1,776 foot skyscraper in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex. The building has 102 stories and 3 million square feet of office space. It has features like 70 elevators, 3 observation floors, and below ground parking and shopping. The tower uses a steel and concrete structure with a glass and steel facade. It aims for LEED Gold certification with features like natural light, energy reduction, and storm water recycling. The spire serves broadcast functions and is supported by cables from a circular platform ring.

The Eden Project in Cornwall, UK consists of two giant greenhouse domes that house plant life from different climate zones. The largest dome, Dome B, has a diameter of 125 meters. The domes have a unique double-layer steel structure with hexagonal top and triangular bottom chords. They were constructed using a space frame system of pipes connected by cast iron nodes. The domes are encased in air-filled pillows of ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (EFTE) foil for transparency and lightweight cladding. The unique geometry and structural design of the Eden Project domes allow them to house various plant life on a massive scale while minimizing material usage.
The document discusses space frames, which are lightweight truss-like structures constructed from interlocking struts in a geometric pattern. Space frames span large areas with few interior supports by transmitting loads through tension and compression along struts. They were developed in the early 1900s and came into wider use in the 1950s. Space frames are used for roofs, floors, and other structures requiring large clear spans. They offer advantages of light weight, prefabrication allowing low-cost construction, and versatility of shapes. Double-layer grids provide increased stiffness over single-layer designs.
The document discusses the design and construction of a new art museum building in Denver, Colorado. Some key points:
- The building's design by architect Daniel Libeskind emulates the jagged peaks of the surrounding Rocky Mountains with its sharp angles and complex geometry.
- It is constructed out of steel, concrete, and other materials like titanium and granite to withstand the lateral forces without right angles or vertical walls.
- The engineering was extremely challenging due to the unconventional sloped designs of the walls, floors, and other structures without standard angles. Precise fabrication and installation was required.
- Over 100 steel columns extend from the foundation into the bedrock to support the entire weight of the building in

The Heydar Aliyev Cultural Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. It uses a combination of a concrete structure and space frame system to achieve large column-free interior spaces under its curved exterior. The space frame enabled construction of the free-form structure and uses vertical elements absorbed by the envelope. Reinforced concrete is used for shear walls and foundations, while the space frame, concrete, and glass fiber reinforced polyester and concrete panels create the distinctive curved surface.
This document discusses different types of roof trusses used in construction. It describes common trusses, which are used to build sloped roofs with a bottom chord and two top chords meeting at the peak. Other types discussed include scissor trusses, raised heel trusses, dropped chord trusses, parallel chord trusses, attic trusses, bowstring trusses, gambrel trusses, and steel trusses. The document provides details on the design and purpose of each type of truss.

6. Kwaliteit lassen in het werk
Oorspronkelijk ontwerp OMA
11. Constructief ontwerp Timmerhuis
+ Ruimtes vrij van constructie
+ Robuuste constructie
- Veel zware verbindingen, gevoelig voor slip
- Complex na te stellen
- Relatief veel materiaalgebruik

21. Constructief ontwerp Timmerhuis
Onderzochte variant
1 Vierendeelconstructies in 2 richtingen
Uitkragingen tot 21,6 meter
2 Toevoegen kolommen BGG
Vierendeel 2R met uitkragingen tot 14,4 m.
Bovenbouw in evenwicht, minder

151. Constructief ontwerp Timmerhuis
-Ontoelaatbare trillingen (risico aanwezig, begrensd door SBR-
richtlijn)
-Bouwkosten
Risico’s
152. Constructief ontwerp Timmerhuis
-Veel stempelrijen toepassen en stempels voorspannen
-Eerst stempels aanbrengen in sleuven daarna ontgraven
-Z-planken toepassen waar gedrukt wordt.
-Nieuwe planken toepassen
-Slotverklikkers toepassen
-Niet heien vanuit ontgraven bouwput
-Damwanden drukken binnen ca 8 a 10 meter van de belending
-Uitgebreide monitoring, metingen zakkingen en peilbuizen
Preventieve maatregelen risicobeperking
153. Constructief ontwerp Timmerhuis
-Permanente monitoring verplaatsingen bouwput en omgeving
-Permanente monitoring grondwaterstand en beweging
-Bij lekkage bouwput niet verder leegpompen
-Eerst reparatie via groutinjectie of bevriezen

Minder materiaalverbruik. En beter nastelbaar.
