FIRST ESSAY: Kabisera The movie Kabisera is directed by Borgy Torre starring Joel Torre, Art Acuña, Meryll Soriano, Bernard Palanca, Bing Pimentel, Carlo Cruz, and Ketchup Eusebio where Andres, who is acted by Joel Torre, was once an innocent man, a simple father who wants a good life for his family turns to a cruel drug seller. He is just a fisherman and one day while he’s in the middle of the sea, he accidentally found boxes of crystal meth which is also known as shabu. He hides it in their outhouse and told his wife, Dindin, about it. They both agreed that they’re going to sell it and use it to be a source of income. Jose, an ex convict friend of Andres helped them to sell the said drugs.
Reinforcement Theory was shown when Jose is convincing Andres to show off more drugs to sell it. Jose was telling Andres that if they’re going to sell more drugs they will earn more money. And it will be a reason for Andres to do that for the bright future he wants for his family. Jose reinforced Andres’ opinion that’s why he changed attitude as his outlook changed from what Jose said.
While on the scene where AJ, Andres’ son, told his father that he is going to study in Manila, Andres quickly refused on what his son said. It shows Elaboration Likelihood Theory where Andres used his peripheral route to give a fast reject decision without deep consideration on what his son wants. His authority to their family as a father automatically leads him to use his peripheral route. In spite of his son’s reasons why he wants to study in Manila, Andres just close his mind and his decision remained.
On the other hand, Cognitive Dissonance Theory was shown when Andres still decided to sell drugs even he really wants to stop it. His son was hit by a car and needed to undergo surgery. Andres had no choice but to sell drugs again to earn money for the surgery. His action contradicts his belief and to feel better about the decision he made, he just thought that he just did it for the sake of his son.

2. SECOND ESSAY: Shift
The movie Shift is about Estela, a tomboyish girl that struggles to find the direction of her life who met Trevor, a pragmatic, gay senior agent in their company, Zynergy Call Center, and fall in love with him. The movie catches the attention of the viewers and everyone is amused to Estela and Trevor’s kilig moments in the movie. It is directed by Seige Ledesma starring Yeng Constantino as Estela, Felix Rocco as Trevor, and Alex Medina who is Estela’s patient suitor.
Social Penetration Theory explains when Estela and Trevor is waiting for the cab and had a talk. They talk about their past lives and each other’s characteristics. After it they always simultaneously eat lunch together and have their gimiks together. They become closer and closer and they able to share more personal stories about themselves. It shows that the more we spend time with somebody, the more we get closer to him/her. And the chances of disclosing our self get high.
Expectancy Violation Theory can be seen when Estela thought that Trevor was falling in love with her. But as Trevor goes back to their work, he told Estela that he had a boyfriend that he met at the bar. Estela’s expectation was violated because she really thought that Trevor reciprocates the way she feels but the news Trevor said to her give her disappointment which leads her to go away to Trevor. She kept distance from him. Estela didn’t even answer Trevor’s messages. Expectancy Violation Theory states that as our expectations get violated we respond in different ways. To Estela, keeping distance from Trevor shows how she reacts when her expectations get violated.
Attribution Theory was shown in the scene where Estela got angry to Colleen, her little sister, when Colleen let her pet go to Estela’s room and disorganized her things. Attribution Theory explains her actions. And the deeper reason why she’s being short tempered is because she’s jealous to Trevor’s boyfriend because she likes Trevor. She just piles her wrath to Colleen’s small wrong acts.

3. THIRD ESSAY: Blue Bustamante
This comedy movie focuses on George, an OFW who lose his job on Japan. His friend Roger offered him to work as a double for Blue Force, a superhero character to the Japanese show Force Five.
When George got fired to his work he also stops sending money to his family in the Philippines. Roger offered George to work with him. He introduced George to a Sentai director and convinces him to be a double for Blue Force since he looks like an action star. At first George did not accept the offer. But as he realized that he really need to have a work to be able to send money to his family he finally accept the work. It shows Elaboration Likelihood Theory where George made his decision cautiously. He used his central route that involves message elaboration and is used to scrutinize ideas, determine their merit and contemplate possible consequences. He thought that if he didn’t grab that work, he won’t be able to give money to his family. Social Penetration Theory was used in the scene where Miko, George’s son, met other four kids who were also bullied by the fat kid. Their relationship develops from being schoolmates to super buddies. They always spend time together watching their favorite show, Force Five. As their relationship grow they also share more about themselves like about their fathers. Social Penetration Theory states that having more time with others will lead you to become closer and share deeper things that you cannot discuss to others. George also met a Japanese girl who he comforts when they’re at a coffee shop. This Japanese girl gave him present to serve as a thank you offer for him. And when they eat at a restaurant, they talk about their lives. The Japanese girl speaks in her mother tongue and even George didn’t understand her he just let her talk. He also tells stories to that Japanese girl about his work and family. The Japanese girl thought that George likes her and he’s going to marry her. But when she saw George’s hand, she saw his wedding ring and finally knew that he is a married man. This shows Expectancy Violation Theory where the expectations of the Japanese girl got violated when she knew that George already had a family. She respond in a way that she got angry and ended up leaving George alone in the restaurant.

4. FOURTH ESSAY: Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon The movie Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon tried to represent the lives of our fellow Filipino people during the time we were occupied by foreigners. It shows how Filipnos were oppressed in their own land and how their lives go around during the time of war. Kulas, a Filipino who encountered many trials in his life became lucky when he met and helped a priest. He became rich and owned a big house as a reward for the favor he did to the priest. But as time passed, bad luck didn’t go away from him, the woman he loved betrayed him, he got offended during Spanish war, his Chinese friend died, and he lose his home. Don Tibor helped him to recover and gain his home back. But in the end, he decided to go away from the city. Just like what happened to Kulas, Filipinos lives were like a wheel, sometimes you’re at the bottom, sometimes you’re at the top. It also shows how Filipinos lack of their identity. Others call themselves Visayan and afraid to admit that they’re also Filipino because when you say that you’re a Filipino, you are poor, uneducated, and slaves. While Diding shows how Filipinos are ambitious. She showed the greedy and opportunist side of Filipinos. She will do everything to bring up herself even she already hurt innocent people. The theory that is applicable to this movie is Attribution Theory. Attribution Theory attempts to explain causes of behavior. It attempts to explain the causes of people's behavior and attributing or explaining reasons as to why people behave the way they do. The movie shows how Kulas and others act when we get colonized by foreigners. They change their acts and behaviors as they try to suit with the conquerors. Even our culture changed because of the invaders. And we became cowards because these invaders showed power that they can manipulate the Filipinos. That’s why we became slaves in our own land.
