In my presentation I will be researching all about Robin Thicks
music video Blurred lines. The song is Blurred lines written by two
of the artist that appear in the video, Robin Thick, Pharrell Williams
and Clifford Harris, Jr. The release date of Blurred line was March
26, 2013 and made by the music record company Star Trak records.
The Genre of this music video can be classed as R+B, disco and also
funk. The amount of views this music video has since it was
released is 36,785,138 on sites like YouTube and vivo.
When the video was released in 2013 it coursed so much bad press
because on the way the women in the video are being treated. The
words sang in the song are about the subject of rap and you are
able to see as the viewer Robin Thicke being bad towards the
women in the video and is treating them like trash. As a resuilt of
this video some places of work have banned this song from being
played and also a lot of uni’s have banned this song aswell from
being played.
2. The gender audience of the music video of
Robin Thicke Blurred lines is more favored
towards men than women because of the
nature of the video. The video consists of
women being half naked and the artists/
singers in the video treating the women as
object, demeaning the women in the video.
It could also be a video that women watch
and think this is the way men should be
towards them.
Men and women will look at the video in
totally different ways, for example men may
look at the video and think its ok to act this
way to wards women ( bad and demeaning).
Where as women may look at the video and
think its ok to act treated this way and let
the man be this way towards them.
3. The age range of the video women would be
around from 14 years of age up to around mid
20's. Child of a younger age than 14 would not
really watch this video because of the women
and a bit rude to viewers under this age. Also if
someone of a younger age who watches the
music video, pacifically young girls may watch
the video and think its ok for men to treat the
way the men are treating the women in the
video, demeaning and belittling them. It could
also be the same reason for younger boys who
may look up to Robin Thicke and think later in
life it is ok the be this way towards women/
treat them badly.
4. Specific interest
The main specific interest in the video what
Robin Thicke wants you to look at the women
in the video, The audience (men) may look at
the women in the video and may have a high
standard when going out with a women and
not really giving normal women a chance.
Another specific interest is the fashion aspect
of the video, clothing in the video, hair and
accessories. The clothing in the video apart
from the women dress the men a dressed to a
high standard with accessories like hats, ties
but the classiness of the way they are dressed
are over shadowed by the how the women are
dressed and thats what the audience is looking
at the most and women may think after seeing
someone like Robin Thick use the women like
this in the video think it ok to dress in next to
nothing.
5. Deposable income
The deposable income for the video is thinks
like the clothing that Robin Thicke wears , even
if you don't earn a lot of money you can still go
in to a shop like Primark and still get the high
standard of cloths for a cheaper price that are
used in the video. You may if you earn a lot of
money may buy thinks like the hate worn by
Pharrell Williams, the finer things in the video.
So it doesn't really matter in you have a high
amount of income or a lower amount of
income you can still go to a shop and buy
clothing/ accessories that you can see in the
music video.
6. Geo demographic
The type of towns, city and suburbs may all
watch this video but may affect someone who
lives in a town/ city because someone who
lives in the country side if old person and not
really the age range of the video, where as in
the city/ town a lot of teenagers/ young adults
which are more the age range of the video 14-
25 years of age. And it may also depend in
which country you live in aswell because the
country you live in someone like Africa
because certain parts of Africa do not have the
internet and are unable to watch the video.
But in country like America certain states/ uni's
may have banned people or a law against
about watching the video because of the
content.
7. Life ambitions
The ambitions are to make young people to
look up to Robin Thick in the video, to make
him seem like a role model. But he doesn't
come off as a good role model and because he
should be a role model more young people
may copy him in the video. Young guys will
look up to Robin Thicke later on in life and
think it is fine to be this way towards women
be demeaning towards them.
8. Positive Negative comments
“ the women in this video are insanely
hot.”
“The men in the video are good
looking.”
“ women in the are treated as sex
objects.”
“treated as slaves.”
“ men demeaning towards women.”
“ Robin Thicke does not have any respect
towards women.”
