Suppose A Player Averages A 23 Points Per Game
Sports is world of measurement. Let s think of a sport like basketball, to where players attempt to
make baskets. Suppose a player averages a 23 points per game. Is that a good player, a bad player,
or s great player? A good coach will know that base of this limited information it will be impossible
to answer that question. Basketballis more than scoring. Players can block shots, rebound missed
shots, steal the ball, and assist others on scoring. They can also make a number of mistakes that
benefit their opponents. So now if a playeraverages 23 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists, and 4 steals
per game. Is that a good player, a bad player, or a great player? A poor coach might be trick on
answering that question, but a good coach will still realize that those statistics measures only
certain aspects of effectiveness. To... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Would you be comfortable making a decision about that player? What other type of data do you
want? I would want to know situational data. Suppose those 23 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists,
and 4 steals were accumulated by a tall 25 year old man against a worst defenders in blow out
game in a league of a 5 year old children. Still feeling good about these player s statistics? What I
m seeing is that not every set of data is sufficient in helping us on making good decision. A good
system of metrics needs to provide information on effectiveness, efficiency, and adaptability. This is
just not true in a sport like basketball. Businesses constantly seek to collect and study data in an
effort to make good decision. In fact, humans are hopelessly addicted to metrics that will aide them
in making good decision. What time is it? What s the temperature? What s your grade in this class?
This are numbers that guide our actions. Performance measurement metrics can actually motivate
the behaviors of athletes, employees, students, and business

Compare And Contrast Beowulf And Achilles
Beowulf and Achilles Epic warriors have significant inspiration in British literature. An epic is an
enlightening story to portray a historical or fictional figure who centralizes on concepts such as
braveness, glory and physical strength. Despite of extraordinary abilities, epic heroes do not have
longevity because they prefer a short life with remarked glory rather than dying in obscurity.
Achillesis known as one of the great warriors of Greek mythology, and a heroic character
participated in the Trojan War. Both Beowulfand Achilles are remarkable figures in the British
literature which portrays them as examples of heroic archetype. It goes without to say that
Beowulf and Achilles are depicted as epic warriors; however, they do perform different
motivation of their parents desire for glory, so Beowulf fights for his King s peace and
communities while Achilles fights for revenge.First of all, Beowulf and Achilles are excellent
symbols of the epic warriors who chase for the victory. They exemplify for epic warrior traits
such as courage and physical strength. In the Beowulf book, the author describes Beowulf such
a brave hero, even in an old age, I hereby renounce sword and the shelter of the broad shield, the
heavy war board: hand to hand is how it will be, a life and death fight with the fiend, says
Beowulf (line 433 440.) To analyze this point, Beowulf makes his battle with Grendel as a simple
task. According to the book, Beowulf fights with Grendel barehanded

Carlody Hobson Speech Analysis
Imagine living in a world that is seemingly against all that you are and all that you want to be.
Through modern stereotypes and accustomed oppression, the odds are working against minorities.
As a society we have become familiarized with the comfort of color blindness, this is a term used
for the ignorance that surrounds diversity issues today. Mellody Hobson, executive president of
Ariel Investments, is an African American woman that has chosen to confront the lack of
understandinginvolving diversity issues involving race, gender, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic
status, and education and tagging it as ColorBravery. Throughout her discussion, Hobson engages
and connects with her audiencethrough her personal stories, facial expressions, tone of voice, and
passion about diversity. Hobson sees her audience as individuals who are struggling to understand
the diversity issues that surround race, gender, and religion. She assumes that her audience has little
awareness of the institutionalized injustices minorities face everyday. With that being said, she does
not use her discussion to ridicule or judge them for not understanding the real problems involving
diversity, instead she focuses on opening their eyes to begin to understand the obstacles our society
needs to overcome in order to start celebrating diversity. Throughout her speech, Hobson infers that
her audience needs a little help grasping the significance of her anecdotes. For example, she starts
her discussion

Professional Behavior, Communication, Boundaries, And...
My field experience has been wonderful so far for the first semester. I have gained valuable
information for the last couple on months interning at my agency. For this self evaluation I will be
describing the1 3 and 6 9 competencies I set up at the beginning of the semester and see if I have
achieved these skills. I will also address the growth and challenges I have come upon throughout
this semester. For competency one on processional and ethical practice I wanted to demonstrate
having a professional behavior, communication, boundaries, and writing skills throughout the
semester. I also wanted to provide integrity, competence, core values, services, dignity, and worth
in the agency and my clients. In addition being aware of the mandating reporting, parental consent,
and legal consent in the school setting. I feel the growth in this competency I have gained a lot by
the agency in proving lots of training, group supervision, and individual supervision has not only
broaden my skills but have gained valuable knowledge of what to do in certain situations. For some
of the challenges I encounter at the beginning was learningabout mandating reporting and how
much work it goes into calling, summiting the paperwork all this is a curial aspect when doing a
CWS report. For example, when doing my first mandated report my supervisor stayed and walk
me through each step to make sure I did it correctly which was wonderful and learned the right
way to do a mandated report.

The Problem of Cyberbullying
Bullying has been a social problem since the beginning of civilized man. There have always been
people in society who intentionally harass and abuse others, either physically or emotionally.
Traditional bullying was an act of verbal or physical harassment between a bully and their victim.
Usually the bully was an individual who held more power or strength than the person they were
bullying. In the last couple of decades, bullying has transcended into an act that can be performed
virtually through electronic devices. Cyber bullying is a relatively new term that describes the act
of bullying through the use of an electronic medium such as e mail, instant messaging, websites, or
texting. This new form of bullying is no longer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, anonymity offers adolescents the opportunity to harass other people without
repercussion. Cyber bullying differs from traditional bullying because it forms a proxy between the
bully and their victim. It is much easier for adolescents to bully other people when they have the
luxury of doing it anonymously via an electronic medium.
Overall it is hard to distinguish what acts constitutes as cyber bullying. The intent of a person
when using electronic devices to socially interact with others plays a major role in identifying
cyber bullying, but it is not the only factor. A person whose intent is malicious is definitely a
cyber bully, but a person whose intent is not malicious could also be a cyber bully.
Even when the intent is not malicious, a person who is affected negatively by the actions of
another person through an electronic medium could just as easily be a victim of cyber bullying.
Jokes at the expense of others are a prime example of a case where the initial intent may not have
been malicious, but the person the joke was directed at can be emotionally harmed. While different
cases of cyber bullying consist of different intent, the cases with the most negative impact are
generally those where the intent is malicious.
Cyber bullying can be classified as either direct or indirect.

My Personal Worldview Paper
My personal worldview explains the way I view and live life through the assumptions and
beliefs I hold in response to the world around me. I believe I was created for a specific reason
and purpose. What do I believe to be true? I believe that God exists and that he is the creator of
everything that exists. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God, John 1:1 (NIV). This is biblical proof that God exists. The verse that explains that
God has always existed is, Revelation 22:13, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the
Last, the Beginning and the End (NIV). God has been alive forever, since before my start and
before the start of everything I know. God is the originator of creation itself.... Show more content

I must find my calling if I am to truly live my life to the fullest and to live out God s plan for my
life. God is the only one who can help me find my purpose. He has had a plan for my life long
before I was even born and that God has a purpose for me that no one else could fulfill. For I know
the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to
give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV). This means that no matter what I do as long
as I am in accordance with God s will, everything will turn out for the best in the end. God has
promised to give me hope and a future and to bless my life. For we are God s handiwork, created in
Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do, Ephesians 2:10 (NIV).
With this knowledge I know that God has created me exactly the way I should be and that he has
given me talents and skills enough to do all he asks of me to do. I was created in God s image,
created with God s character of love, mercy, grace and righteousness. According to

Poem Analysis Of Wilfred Owen
Kavitha Vudatha Period 2B
Wilfred Owen Poem Analysis Essay Wilfred Owen is a poet whose journey through life has
molded him into a character of testimony and reality. From the early days of his childhood to
his experiences in war, Owen has evolved into a poet who provides his altruistic view on life.
His use of diction that emphasizes his theme of appearance/and or fate vs reality and the imagery
that describes each scene with clarity and connection of Owen s spirit to his experiences in war,
provides not only a peek into his life but his views on what he saw and what makes him unique.
During his time serving in the war, Wilfred Owen was able to capture many ideas, concepts, and
perceptions that cleverly portrayed into his poems. Even the Sassoon had an impression that Owen,
no matter what, had complete dedication and he passionately wanted to survive the war, so that he
might continue to write poetry.. he showed himself as ...an increasingly self critical one. Owen
was quite dedicated to his work and he let nothing go past him. His sentiment to the war was a
recurring speech that echoed his very thoughts. In one of his poems, the Sentry, Owens uses the
words Hammered , choked , murk.. , and whizz bangs to establish the reality of war and what
those soldiers are put through. This is in contrast with the word coaxing , which shifts the
attention away from reality to more of Owen s altruism and appearance that the man is able to
survive. The onomatopoeia used in the second stanza present a sudden push into reality, such as
thud! Flump! Thud! . This sudden jump also supplies information on how difficult it was to
navigate through the war zone. In the third stanza, Owen switches to a form of fate, in which he
relates how this may have been the fate of the man. He forms these thoughts with words phrases
such as wild chattering , crumps , Pummelled , or slogged the air , that imply how the feeling of
dread metaphorically listens for these words before striking . The Sentry is quite different from any
of the other poems that Wilfred Owen has written in that it seems to be centered around internal
dialogue rather than just him laying out details and interpretations of events. The specific dialogue

The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the most centralized countries in the Middle East. Known
for its abundant oil supply, desert land, and strict adherence to Islam, Saudi Arabia is a culture that
is very different from those of Western nations. Analyzing the national and business culture can
prepare a Westerner for working in Saudi Arabiaand help them avoid intercultural conflict.
In 1932, King Abd al Aziz established the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Though he passed away in
1953, the monarchy continued through his sons. The Kingdom is located in the Middle East, with
the Persian Gulf to the East and the Red Sea to the West. At 2,149,690 km2 it is the 13th biggest
country in the world. Its location provides it with strong shipping capabilities particularly for oil
through use of the Gulf and the Suez Canal. The land is mostly uninhabited with dry sandy deserts,
plateaus and mountains which are subject to extreme hot weather. Possessing much of the world s
oil reserves, the country s culture has been shaped by this industry. The country also has large
natural gas reserves, and deposits of copper, gold, and iron.
The population consists of 90% Arabs and 10% Afro Asians. Its population is approximately
27.3 million, of which 30% (8 million) are immigrants. In terms of age structure, more than 60%

Summary OfThe Birth-Mark By Nathanial Hawthorne
The societal standards of human beauty and perfection, and the dangers that come with
exploratory science and knowledge can be destructive to the human mind and possibly harmful to
the human body as well. The Birth Mark , written by Nathanial Hawthorne in 1843, is the story of
scientist, Aylmer, and his obsession over human perfection; specifically, his sentiments on the red,
hand shaped birthmark on his wife, Georgiana s, left cheek. This passage, found more so near the
beginning of the story, describes a dream Aylmer had of performing an unsuccessful operation on
Georgiana s birthmark. Though he was unable to cut the flaw out of her skin, it did not stop him
from wanting to cut deeper into her skin, despite the grasp the Hand had on her heart. The passage
functions to foreshadow Georgiana s fate while demonstrating Aylmer s passion and dedication for
scienceand personifying the Hand s connection with Georgiana. While presenting oneself well and
knowledge are typically seen as useful characteristics, Hawthorne reminds his readers that flaws
are a necessity aspect of human nature that can not and should not be scientifically managed.
Aylmer s dream describes a procedure and result in which the reader anticipates will occur at the
end of the story, creating suspense of Georgiana s outcome and highlighting the relationship
between Aylmer and Georgiana as well. Georgiana s dissatisfaction with her birthmark only arose
because of Aylmer s displeased nature with its

The Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking And Novel Risk...
Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In
The United States
In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on
the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum
C reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic
has not been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United
States in 1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular
disease can also result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers,
4,791 former smokers, and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years
1988 and 1994. Three thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive
proteins had little information. This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. In
the analysis for fibrinogen, 2,000 people lacked the information for fibrinogen. Because the
participants in the fibrinogen analysis had to be over 40 years of age, 9350 were left for this
analysis. Between 1991 and 1994 (phase 2 of the study), homocysteine levels were measured. Close
to 1,500 were missing homocysteine values, so 7,458 were examined.
The data for the study was collected through home interviews and clinical examinations. Patients

White Fang Comparison
The protagonists of Jack London s White Fang and Andy Weir s The Martian both face a
potentially fatal situation in their respective novels. White Fang follows the story of a man being
hunted by wolves across the tundra of Northern Canada, while The Martian is about an American
astronaut called Mark Watney who is accidently left behind on the deserted planet of Mars during a
mission evacuation. Although both men are in similarly fatal situations, due to the differences in
their individual scenarios, they react uniquely to the possibility of death. Both Jack Londonand

Both characters are faced with death, whether immediate or delayed, and although they both
show resilience in their attempts to survive, the tone of Watney s narrative has an uplifting,
hopeful quality that is non existent in that of Henry. Watney s hope comes from his upbeat
nature with the added aspect of the fact that his entire crew survived. His thinks his situation is
not completely hopeless and he makes plans for when he survives such as that he will tell
people [he] was pissing rocket fuel and that he will buy beers for everyone if [he] get[s] back to
Earth . While his colloquial language forms a connection with the reader, it also demonstrates his
hope for the future, as if he truly believes he will survive. In contrast, Henry remarks on how the
wolves remind him of children gathered about a spread table... awaiting permission to begin to eat
. Knowing that he was the food they were to eat , his words hold no tenacity. This could be due to
the fact that, unlike Watney, he has little reason to hope, since the wolf pack killed his friends and
there is no one to help him. Despite the characters different attitudes they both persevere and
prevent their death. At all times both could completely give up and succumb to the natural force
which opposes them, but neither does, using their own ways of coping to maintain some

Iago In Othello s Jealousy
Iago, in Shakespeare s Othello , is a deceiving character since he advises lies keeping in mind the
end goal to get what he needs. He collaborates with individuals just to control them, yet above all he
never uncovers his actual emotions or intentions. Iago may state things that propose what his
thought process is, however he soon contradicts himself with another recommendation making it to
a great degree hard to understand him. Even though Iagos actual motives aren t revealed, some can
say the motives could be jealousy, seeing people suffer, or power. Iago s jealousy towards Othello
quickly transforms into a jealousy toward Cassio too because Othello selected Cassio as lieutenant
rather than Iago. Iago trusts that he ought to be lieutenant since he has battled close by in fights
and because he has genuine war involvement, while Cassio took in the majority of his strategies
from books. Thus, he is spiteful because he didn t land the position, however he is annoyed on the

Iago is extremely scheming and sharp and he can utilize this to control anyone. It is
unmistakably seen that Iago flourishes for control, since he cherishes controlling people, so
they do precisely what he says. He does this to Roderigo daily, like when Iago advises Roderigo
to give him the majority of his cash and when he persuades Roderigo to murder Cassio. He even
controls Othello to the point that Othello suspects of Desdemona and chooses to murder her.
Iago s hunger for control is observed when Cassio is designated to be Othello s lieutenant since
this was, as far as anyone knows, the reason for his retaliation. He truly needed to be lieutenant
since it is a high position and with it comes a considerable measure of power and Iago
demonstrates that he would effectively get that kind of power. In this manner, one of Iago s thought
processes could be that he has an enormous hunger for

any electrical repairs that your diesel truck may require.
Your Truck s Alternator
Your diesel truck s alternator is what generates the electricity that is used to preserve battery storage
charge. It also assists in operating all of the other electrical accessories. This includes the engine and
ignition control systems. The alternator doesn t continuously generate electricity, but rather works
in sequences. It is recommended that your truck s electrical structure should be properly maintained
regularly.
When conducting electrical repairs on your diesel truck, an electrician should always check the
simple circuits first. Doing so will indicate any additional problems and can help you to avoid
replacing the alternator or eliminate any other electrical repairs.

Racial And Ethnic Disparities Of Health Care
Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Ksenia Bruner University of St. Francis Racial and
Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Introduction Although the United States is a leader in healthcare
innovation and spends more money on health care than any other industrialized nation, not all
people in the United State benefit equally from this progress as a health care disparity exists
between racial and ethnic minorities and white Americans. Health care disparity is defined as a
particular type of health difference that is closely linked with social or economic
disadvantage...adversely affecting groups of people who have systematically experienced greater
social and/or economic obstacles to health and/or clean environment based on their racial or ethnic
group; religion; socioeconomic status; gender; age; mental health; cognitive, sensory or physical
disability; sexual orientation or gender identity; geographic location; or other characteristics
historically linked to discrimination or exclusion (National Partnership for Action to End Health
Disparities [NPAEHD], 2011, p. 3). Overwhelming evidence shows that racial and ethnic minorities
receive inferior quality health care compared to white Americans, and multiple factors contribute to
these disparities, including geography, lack of access to adequate health coverage, communication
difficulties between patients and providers, cultural barriers, and lack of access to providers

Rhodes Must Fall Movement Essay
The following essay will be discussing and analysing the Rhodes Must Fall movement which was
created and encouraged by students at the University of Cape Town in response to The
Johannesburg Salon Vol 9. Throughout this essay, I will be sympathising with the students that
formed the movement, but will also be making a critical observation. The Rhodes Must Fall
Movement was created by the students in order for black students to feel like they belong and
included in the university, as well as for equality for black students and students of colour within
UCT. On the 9th of March 2015, a student from UCT threw human excrement at the statue of Cecil
John Rhodes on campus at the university. By doing so, the student ignited the beginning of student

Decolonisation can be defined as a process which always was and will continue to be a violent
process. This is due to the fact that one man will be replacing another using the same force that
was used to colonise them (Fanon, 2001). Decolonisation can be described as being a process of
complete disorder as it is when two or more conflicting forces meet one another. These opposing
forces will have their own beliefs as well as different ways of doing certain tasks (Fanon, 2001).
The movement of Rhodes Must Fall is exactly that. During the movement, violence is seen when
human excrement is thrown at the statue of Cecil John Rhodes. Another representation of
violence is the sudden outbreak of one of the leaders and the vandalism that was present.
Although Fanon states that violence will always be a part of the decolonisation process, I do not
believe that we should associate and include violence when standing up for what we believe in, as
this may infringe on peoples human rights if one does not feel safe in a certain situation where
violence is a prominent

Chinese Culture vs. American Culture in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
An author s cultural background can play a large part in the authors writing. Amy Tan, a Chinese
American woman, uses the cultural values of Chinese women in American culture in her novel,
The Joy Luck Club. These cultural values shape the outcome of The Joy Luck Club. The two
cultural value systems create conflict between the characters.
In The Joy Luck Club, the chapter Waiting Between the Trees illustrates major concerns facing
Chinese American women. Chinese culture is a male dominated culture that leaves women little
freedom. Their only job is to make their male spouses content. Living with their traditional culture

She was very pretty when she was a young girl. She was educated like every Chinese woman
used to be: To be obedient, to honor one s parents, one s husband and to try to please him and his
family. Ying Ying was not taught to use her own digression and make her own waythrough life.
The result of this education was a disaster due to the differences in values between the two
cultures. Ying Ying realized that her marriage was a mistake when her husband left her for
another woman. Her love for him turned to hate and she killed her unborn baby. She felt great
remorse for this and considered herself a murderer. She later remarried a gentleman by the name of
St. Clair. With St. Clair she had a daughter. After her second son, which was her third child, died at
birth, Ying Ying had a mental breakdown. She saw his death as a punishment for the murdering her
first son.
Ying Ying became passive and lifeless after her second son died. She kept the fact that she felt
responsible for her second sons death a secret from her husband and daughter, Lena. As shown in
this example, Ying Ying had Chinese cultural values in an American society. This produces the
conflict between cultures. Ying Ying becomes so passive that she lets her husband make all of her
decisions for her.
Lena St.Clair, on the other hand, was born in America and lives like an American girl. But when
she was born, she sprang from me like a slippery fish, and had been swimming away ever since,

3 Ways To Avoid A Locksmith Scam
Chances are that you will need to call a locksmith when you are in a bind. For instance, you may
have locked yourself out of your home and have no way to get in, or locked your keys in your car
at the mall and are stranded without a way to open your car doors.
Thankfully, emergency locksmith services are there for just these types of situations. Without the
ability to do a lot of research on the fly, it helps to know some potential locksmith scams that can
be avoided. These tips will help you find a locksmith that is trustworthy to help you out.

Use a Licensed Locksmith
The laws in Florida about locksmith licenses can be a bit tricky. While there are 15 states that
require locksmiths to have a license, Florida is not one of them. However, Miami Dade county does
require that all locksmiths working within their boundaries have a locksmith license.
If you are hiring a locksmith based out of Miami Dade county you should always ask to see their
license before they begin working on your home or car. These licensed locksmiths will have gone
through a criminal background check and have been fingerprinted at a local police station. Licensed
locksmiths in Miami Dade county will also have a minimum of one year of experience through
previous employment or an apprenticeship.

The Biomechanics Of A Skiing
For this research assignment, the topic I would like to discuss is the biomechanics of a skiing.
Skiing is one type of sports that has begun to increase in popularity. Athletes are always trying to
discover ways to get stronger, faster, and higher with minimal injuries. Improving our
biomechanics is one important way of improving your athletic performance, and limit injuries.
However, there are many pros and cons within the biomechanics of skiing. I would like to learn
more about leg alignment and form and how these can affect the skier. Abnormalities of the leg
and lower leg alignment are important factors while skiing. To be an efficient skier it requires a
balanced movement. My methods of data collection to analyze my subject s skill movement will
consist of a multi methods approach. This approach includes a mixture of literature reviews,
observational review through video analysis, and interviews with the athlete. These data
collection methods will help me in my project by allowing me to strategically point out
differences in angular placement and posture, along with speed variations due to changes in
position. I will be able to compare a professional style of skiing with that of a novice skier and
point out the differences in positioning between an experienced skier and a novice skier. I will
limit research information to scholarly and reputable sources only. Once of the sources I will
reference comes from a research article called Clinical Biomechanics of Skiing.

Kirk Cameron Misconceptions
There are many common misconceptions about the actor, Kirk Cameron. In fact, he wrote a
whole chapter over those misconceptions. He said that most of his admirers think of him as a
person that is always perfect. He said that he was not that nice or good at everything. Kirk was a
prankster, didn t practice his lines, and overall was not a super thoughtful person. His audience
thinks of him as someone that has everything together, but I believe if I asked him today if his
life was together, he would most likely say No. Although, he is an ultra humble person, I don t
know how true that would be. Another common misconception about Kirk Cameron is that he is
very stuck up and proud even though he just wants people to see him as a normal person and
judged by what he does not that he is in a movie. Kirk Cameron has been influenced by many

New People Theme Of Identity
In her latest novel, Danzy Senna dives deep into the territory of love, race, identity, heritage, and
privilege, revealing the harsh reality of growing up in America with two different ethnicities.
Danzy Senna s New People defines the social complexities of having and understanding a full
identity of one s own and what it means to pass as one raceor another through it s conflicted and
anti heroine of a character and discouraging setting.
Maria s struggle with identity is foremost throughout the novel. Her appearance is misleading
from her actual ethnicity, which she has trouble coming to terms with. This theme accentuates
the idea that people base judgments off of looks rather than the truth. This can build the question
of who can pass for what? . It gives Maria the chance to assimilate with white culture while not
actually being white. It s no question that she feels like a stranger in her own home, an alien in
her own body due to the confusion of not knowing who she really is.. It s also clear she feels the
need to gain social acceptance, but she doesn t know how the people want her to be to obtain it.

How Your Local Restaurant Doesn t Charge
Your local restaurant doesn t charge you a fixed price and tell you to gorge yourself on whatever
comes out of the kitchen. Most restaurants operate on an Г la carte basis, allowing diners to choose
foods they like from the menu and eat only what they want (and can afford). If you don t like
broccoli or raspberries, you don t pay for them; if you re a vegetarian you don t subsidize the meal
of the carnivore at the next table.
Cable companies don t operate like that. Comcast and AT T package all that food and shove it
down their customers throats like the Widette family descending on a smorgasbord. You wanta

The Pros and Cons of Hydropower Essay
Since the invention of electricity, mankind has found many ways to generate electricity by using
different energy sources. Energy sources can be classified into two main types which is renewable
and non renewable or finite energy (Twidella, Weir, 1985). According to Twindella and Weir (1985)
renewable energyis defined as energy that has sustainable sources and can be found in the natural
environment. This means that the energy sources can be generated on its own without any human
interference (Twidella Weir, 1985). Examples of renewable energy sources are solar energy

This discussion is about the advantages and disadvantages of hydro power.
One of the advantages of hydropower is that it is more reliable than any other sources. Turbines
have an average life span of about 50 years (Twidella Weir, 1985) compared to other renewable
energy such as solar energy which have solar panels that last an average of 20 to 25 years (The
Cost of Solar Penal , 2011). Hydro power is more reliable in the long run than non renewable
sources such as nuclear energy which has a life span of 25 50 years but have more problems
than hydropower. The nuclear plant breaks down from overuse and needs to be repaired thus
making it not reliable (Delgado, 2009). Hydro power stations such as the Chenderoh
Hydroelectric Power station in Malaysia which was built in 1929 (Dahlen, 1993) and is still
generating electricity till today . These show that hydro power has a longer lasting life than other
energy sources. The only fuel that hydro power need is running water and that can be found in most
countries. This makes the production of hydro power consistent compare to solar energy which
needs a constant supply of sun light to generate electricity. This is not reliable

The Incans were sophisticated farmers. They used very advanced and specialised techniques to

terraces on the hillsides for two reasons. First to make hillsides flat and second to suit the
different altitude requirements of different plants. By building the terraces on the sides of
mountains the Incans also enabled their crops to get more sunlight instead of planting in the
shaded valleys. The terraces were formed with stone walls and included steps to move from one

one of them is ellipsis of subjects and objects. In English, a complete sentence consists of at least
three basic elements which are a subject, an object, and a verb. However, compare with English,
Mandarin Chinese does not have strict grammatical rules to form a complete sentence because
people can leave out subjects or objects when they talk to each other. Although there are many
sentences in Mandarin Chinese lack of subjects or objects, the sentences are still clear and
grammatically correct. Therefore, can we conclude that subjects and objects are not necessary for
spoken Mandarin Chinese? In other words, when can a speaker omit the subject or the object in
Mandarin Chinese?
Ellipsis of subjects also occurs in spoken English, but it normally in a set phrase. For example,
people often say see you tomorrow rather than I will see you tomorrow. Moreover, due to
grammatical requirement, not every sentence in English can omit the subject. Although sometimes
the sentence is still understandable without the subject, the meaning will become ambiguous.
Compare with English, ellipsis of subjects is more common in spoken Mandarin Chinese. Unlike
English, it does not have any grammatical restriction and can be used in any sentence. Therefore,
In order to have a better understanding of ellipsis of subjects and objects in Mandarin Chinese, I
use examples from video recording that I recorded in an apartment. There are two participants in
the video and both of them are native Chinese speaker. Two participants know each other very well,
and the conversation topic is about the Animation class that female speaker takes this quarter.
In the conversation, the female speaker omits subjects constantly, and the listener can still
understand what she wants to say and respond to her. For example, the female speaker says:
(1).ењЁдёЉйќўдёЂдёЄеЉІењ°и®І. zai shangmianyigrjingdejiang.
AttopcontinuouslyCtalk
(He) talks continuously at the stage.
This sentence is a typical incomplete sentence in spoken Mandarin Chinese. The speaker wants to
say that the Animation class lacks of the

The Role Of Birthright Citizenship In The United States
5.1 million of the 73.1 million minors living the United States currently live with their illegal
immigrant parents. The minors are legal American citizens as the 14th Amendment of the
Constitution grants citizenship to children born in America, regardless if their parents illegally
immigrated to the U.S. or not.. Donald Trump, the 2016 Republican presidential candidate, has
proposed taking away birthright citizenship from illegal immigrants children. By doing this it could
reduce the amount of immigrants coming to our country and reduce some government debt. In
addition, birthright citizenship is not a natural law. We the people voted on putting the 14th
amendment into place, which in turn gives not only us, but illegal immigrants children citizenship,
just for being born in America.

Essay on Confessions
Saint Augustine s book Confessions talks about how increasing your knowledge through reading
leads you through a conversion in which you begin to recall things and their relevance through
memory. Socrates stresses the concept of increasing knowledge as a way to grow. Socrates also
was the one who wanted to have a field day teaching Saint Augustine. Saint Augustine uses his life
to display to us the way one s quest for Godshould be like. He believed that one must begin their
journey by first reading about God through books such as the Bible. Once one believes in God,
they will have gone through a conversion in which their memory allows them to remember their
readings on God and apply them in their lives. We will be analyzing the... Show more content on

31). He clearly states that reading the book converted his belief. After going through conversion
Saint Augustine believes that your memory begins to recall the relevance of things. He describes
memory as The vast cave of memory, with its numerous and mysterious recesses, receives all these
things and stores them up, to be recalled and brought forth when required. (10.8.13 p154). He uses
this description of memory because as one is reading one does not try remembering everything, but
once one is converted everything that is in their memory starts to make sense and becomes relevant.
The concept of reading conversion and memory apply to God. It describes the quest in finding
God. One first reads about God and tries to understand him. After you have had some time to let
what you read sink in to your memory, your memory begins to recall the readings and you
understand the importance and relevance of what you read. It is because of your memories that
you undergo a conversion. Saint Augustine uses reading and memory to lead to a conversion in his
life from not believing in God to becoming a Christian. Saint Augustine confesses to God the

Jane Grey Research Paper
She stretched forth her body and said Lord, into thy hands I commend my spirit. And so she
ended. Extract from The Tower of London by Harrison Ainsworth. Where do you see yourself in
4 years? How would you react if you were told you had been chosen as king or queen of
England? This reality was all too real for Lady Jane Grey, the quiet young girl from
Leicestershire. At the age of 17 Jane became queen, but not for long. This biography will follow
the fascinating life of this intelligent protestant women and explore what makes her story one of
the most captivating of her time. 461 years and 9 months ago, Frances Grey, Duchess of Suffolk,
delivered a beautiful young baby girl with a head of fiery red hair. In the picturesque woodlands of
Bradford Park in Leicestershire, Jane matured to be a sophisticated... Show more content on

Jane was the eldest child in her family, consisting of her parents, Frances and Henry Grey, and
her sisters, Lady Catherine Grey and Lady Mary Grey. Jane was capable of speaking Latin,
Greek, French and Italian fluently, Jane was largely envied by her sisters. In 1547 Jane was sent
to live in Thomas Seymour s household. Soon after, Seymour married Catherine Parr and Jane
lived with the couple until Catherine s death in 1548. After the tragedy of Catherine s death
Jane moved back with her parents. 5 years after moving back with her abusive parents Jane was
married, that day may have been the turning point of her whole life. In April 1552 Edward VI
became sick with the measles and soon after with tuberculosis. He became so sick that it was
obvious that he would die before producing an heir. Edward wrote a letter, stating that he wanted
his cousin, Lady Jane Grey, to become queen of England. As this word came out, the greedy and
ambitious John Dudley came up with a plan. If he was to get his last unmarried son, Lord

The Role Of Abortion In The United States
Over the past few centuries state and federal laws concerning a females reproductive rights have
changed dramatically. The female population has been greatly affected by many laws regarding
their reproductive rights and their ability to make educated decisions about family planning. The
1973 case Roe vs. Wade set the motion to allow women to control their bodies and their decision to
end a pregnancy through abortion. Prior to this case, in almost all 50 states abortions were deemed
illegal. History of Abortions Prior to 1973 and the legalization of medical professionals performing
abortions, women had to fight for many reproductive rights, including birth control for all females,
not just married couples. As far back as 1821, states follow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Effects Of Child Labor Laws On Children And The Value...
Every single individual experiences childhood as a part of life s journey, yet no two individuals
share the same experiences, therefore when asking people to define childhood and what is
considered appropriate approaches to deal with children, perspectives and opinions vary
significantly. Independently of people s different perceptions of childhood, modern society has
come to a consensus that children are different from adults and must be spared from the burdens of
the labor force. However, childlabor impacts the way society views children and the value it places
upon them.
What is childhood and how is it perceived throughout history? The pioneer of the history of
childhood Philippe AriГЁs, defines it as a social construct that is culturally determined and
establishes the expectations set for children, which are determined by social leaders and experts
(Hawes and Hiner 381). Since social values change overtime, the expectations that society places
upon children also changes. In order to understand the importance of child labor laws, and the
factors that contributed to the perception that children are not supposed to work, it is important to
understand the role of child labor and how the concept of childhood changed throughout history.
The perception of the importance of focusing on children and the part that they play in society, was
not a substantial matter of focus and study in previous eras. Consequently, history of childhood is
fairly new, and there are limited sources

Norms Are The Expectations, Or Rules Of Behavior
Norms are the expectations, or rules of behavior that develop to reflect and enforce values. A
norm violation is when a person goes against a certain way that culture and society expects one
to act. When going against the norm it means that you are doing something that is not
acceptable to one s society or their culture. Normative behavior is expected to be in every
culture. For example, in our society men and women have the freedom to wear whatever they
please, we are allowed to show our legs, arms, feet etc. because its an expression of who we are
and what we like. In the Muslim culture when a women reaches puberty no part of her body
should remain uncovered except the face and the hand up to the wrist joint. If the Muslim woman
wore shorts and a t shirt it would be considered a violation of a norm. But because this violation
differs from our American Society it wouldn t be considered weird or strange to wear shorts and a
tee.
The norm violation i preformed was the invasion of privacy. People are used to being in a
bubble, having a couple feet of space among themselves and strangers. So what i did was go to
my local Target and basically creep four people out. I started off by walking up to these people
individually. and standing so close to them to where our shoulders met. The only common reaction
they shared was confusion. Two of the customers didn t see me coming, i snuck up on them. One
of them (a middle aged woman) looked at me and sort of looked confused and

Through modern stereotypes and accustomed oppression, the odds are working against minorities. As a society we have become familiarized with the comfort of color blindness, this is a term used for the ignorance that surrounds diversity issues today. Mellody Hobson, executive president of Ariel Investments, is an African American woman that has chosen to confront the lack of understandinginvolving diversity issues involving race, gender, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic status, and education and tagging it as ColorBravery. Throughout her discussion, Hobson engages and connects with her audiencethrough her personal stories, facial expressions, tone of voice, and passion about diversity. Hobson sees her audience as individuals who are struggling to understand the diversity issues that surround race, gender, and religion. She assumes that her audience has little awareness of the institutionalized injustices minorities face everyday. With that being said, she does not use her discussion to ridicule or judge them for not understanding the real problems involving diversity, instead she focuses on opening their eyes to begin to understand the obstacles our society needs to overcome in order to start celebrating diversity. There have always been people in society who intentionally harass and abuse others, either physically or emotionally. In the last couple of decades, bullying has transcended into an act that can be performed virtually through electronic devices. Cyber bullying differs from traditional bullying because it forms a proxy between the bully and their victim. Overall it is hard to distinguish what acts constitutes as cyber bullying. The intent of a person when using electronic devices to socially interact with others plays a major role in identifying cyber bullying, but it is not the only factor. A person whose intent is malicious is definitely a cyber bully, but a person whose intent is not malicious could also be a cyber bully. Even when the intent is not malicious, a person who is affected negatively by the actions of another person through an electronic medium could just as easily be a victim of cyber bullying. Jokes at the expense of others are a prime example of a case where the initial intent may not have been malicious, but the person the joke was directed at can be emotionally harmed. While different cases of cyber bullying consist of different intent, the cases with the most negative impact are generally those where the intent is malicious. • 11. Poem Analysis Of Wilfred Owen Kavitha Vudatha Period 2B Wilfred Owen Poem Analysis Essay Wilfred Owen is a poet whose journey through life has molded him into a character of testimony and reality. From the early days of his childhood to his experiences in war, Owen has evolved into a poet who provides his altruistic view on life. His use of diction that emphasizes his theme of appearance/and or fate vs reality and the imagery that describes each scene with clarity and connection of Owen s spirit to his experiences in war, provides not only a peek into his life but his views on what he saw and what makes him unique. During his time serving in the war, Wilfred Owen was able to capture many ideas, concepts, and perceptions that cleverly portrayed into his poems. Even the Sassoon had an impression that Owen, no matter what, had complete dedication and he passionately wanted to survive the war, so that he might continue to write poetry.. he showed himself as ...an increasingly self critical one. Owen was quite dedicated to his work and he let nothing go past him. His sentiment to the war was a recurring speech that echoed his very thoughts. In one of his poems, the Sentry, Owens uses the words Hammered , choked , murk.. , and whizz bangs to establish the reality of war and what those soldiers are put through. This is in contrast with the word coaxing , which shifts the attention away from reality to more of Owen s altruism and appearance that the man is able to survive. The onomatopoeia used in the second stanza present a sudden push into reality, such as thud! Flump! Thud! . This sudden jump also supplies information on how difficult it was to navigate through the war zone. In the third stanza, Owen switches to a form of fate, in which he relates how this may have been the fate of the man. He forms these thoughts with words phrases such as wild chattering , crumps , Pummelled , or slogged the air , that imply how the feeling of dread metaphorically listens for these words before striking . The Sentry is quite different from any of the other poems that Wilfred Owen has written in that it seems to be centered around internal dialogue rather than just him laying out details and interpretations of events. The specific dialogue he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In The United States In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum C reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic has not been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United States in 1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease can also result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers, 4,791 former smokers, and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years 1988 and 1994. Three thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive proteins had little information. This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. Racial And Ethnic Disparities Of Health Care Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Ksenia Bruner University of St. Francis Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Introduction Although the United States is a leader in healthcare innovation and spends more money on health care than any other industrialized nation, not all people in the United State benefit equally from this progress as a health care disparity exists between racial and ethnic minorities and white Americans. Health care disparity is defined as a particular type of health difference that is closely linked with social or economic disadvantage...adversely affecting groups of people who have systematically experienced greater social and/or economic obstacles to health and/or clean environment based on their racial or ethnic group; religion; socioeconomic status; gender; age; mental health; cognitive, sensory or physical disability; sexual orientation or gender identity; geographic location; or other characteristics historically linked to discrimination or exclusion (National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities [NPAEHD], 2011, p. 3). Overwhelming evidence shows that racial and ethnic minorities receive inferior quality health care compared to white Americans, and multiple factors contribute to these disparities, including geography, lack of access to adequate health coverage, communication difficulties between patients and providers, cultural barriers, and lack of access to providers (American College of Physicians, ... Throughout this essay, I will be sympathising with the students that formed the movement, but will also be making a critical observation. The Rhodes Must Fall Movement was created by the students in order for black students to feel like they belong and included in the university, as well as for equality for black students and students of colour within UCT. On the 9th of March 2015, a student from UCT threw human excrement at the statue of Cecil John Rhodes on campus at the university. By doing so, the student ignited the beginning of student ... This is due to the fact that one man will be replacing another using the same force that was used to colonise them (Fanon, 2001). Decolonisation can be described as being a process of complete disorder as it is when two or more conflicting forces meet one another. These opposing forces will have their own beliefs as well as different ways of doing certain tasks (Fanon, 2001). The movement of Rhodes Must Fall is exactly that. During the movement, violence is seen when human excrement is thrown at the statue of Cecil John Rhodes. Another representation of violence is the sudden outbreak of one of the leaders and the vandalism that was present. Although Fanon states that violence will always be a part of the decolonisation process, I do not believe that we should associate and include violence when standing up for what we believe in, as this may infringe on peoples human rights if one does not feel safe in a certain situation where violence is a prominent ... • 43. Ellipsis Of Subjects And Objects In Mandarin Chinese Ellipsis of Subjects and Objects in Mandarin Chinese Mandarin Chinese as one of the unique languages in the world has many significant features, and one of them is ellipsis of subjects and objects. In English, a complete sentence consists of at least three basic elements which are a subject, an object, and a verb. However, compare with English, Mandarin Chinese does not have strict grammatical rules to form a complete sentence because people can leave out subjects or objects when they talk to each other. Although there are many sentences in Mandarin Chinese lack of subjects or objects, the sentences are still clear and grammatically correct. Therefore, can we conclude that subjects and objects are not necessary for spoken Mandarin Chinese? In other words, when can a speaker omit the subject or the object in Mandarin Chinese? Ellipsis of subjects also occurs in spoken English, but it normally in a set phrase. For example, people often say see you tomorrow rather than I will see you tomorrow. Moreover, due to grammatical requirement, not every sentence in English can omit the subject. Although sometimes the sentence is still understandable without the subject, the meaning will become ambiguous. Compare with English, ellipsis of subjects is more common in spoken Mandarin Chinese. Unlike English, it does not have any grammatical restriction and can be used in any sentence. Therefore, In order to have a better understanding of ellipsis of subjects and objects in Mandarin Chinese, I use examples from video recording that I recorded in an apartment. There are two participants in the video and both of them are native Chinese speaker. Two participants know each other very well, and the conversation topic is about the Animation class that female speaker takes this quarter. It is because of your memories that you undergo a conversion. Saint Augustine uses reading and memory to lead to a conversion in his life from not believing in God to becoming a Christian. Every single individual experiences childhood as a part of life s journey, yet no two individuals share the same experiences, therefore when asking people to define childhood and what is considered appropriate approaches to deal with children, perspectives and opinions vary significantly. Independently of people s different perceptions of childhood, modern society has come to a consensus that children are different from adults and must be spared from the burdens of the labor force. However, childlabor impacts the way society views children and the value it places upon them. What is childhood and how is it perceived throughout history? The pioneer of the history of childhood Philippe AriГЁs, defines it as a social construct that is culturally determined and establishes the expectations set for children, which are determined by social leaders and experts (Hawes and Hiner 381). When going against the norm it means that you are doing something that is not acceptable to one s society or their culture. Normative behavior is expected to be in every culture. For example, in our society men and women have the freedom to wear whatever they please, we are allowed to show our legs, arms, feet etc. because its an expression of who we are and what we like. In the Muslim culture when a women reaches puberty no part of her body should remain uncovered except the face and the hand up to the wrist joint. If the Muslim woman wore shorts and a t shirt it would be considered a violation of a norm. But because this violation differs from our American Society it wouldn t be considered weird or strange to wear shorts and a tee. The norm violation i preformed was the invasion of privacy. People are used to being in a bubble, having a couple feet of space among themselves and strangers. So what i did was go to my local Target and basically creep four people out. I started off by walking up to these people individually. and standing so close to them to where our shoulders met. The only common reaction they shared was confusion. Two of the customers didn t see me coming, i snuck up on them. One of them (a middle aged woman) looked at me and sort of looked confused and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
