Bituminous penetration macadam base course is used as a base course for flexible pavements in small road projects where a hot mix plant is unavailable. Coarse aggregates of a specified size are spread and compacted dry, then hot bitumen binder is sprayed over them. The mix is prepared in a hot mix plant at a temperature depending on the grade of bitumen, transported to the site, and laid and compacted into layers to achieve the specified thickness, level, and compaction for the base course.
