What are the top 3 macro things to watch out for, that can screw up your startup? I gave this lightning talk at the amazing Lamba Labs hackerspace in Beirut. Blog post with details for each slide available at http://techspiceblog.com
This presentation will offer practical advice on the efficiencies and effectiveness of content recycling and repurposing. How to maximise the investment in content creation and distribute it across channels while retaining your sanity.
Content marketing is hard. To create and distribute relevant and valuable content to attract/acquire/engage/convert target audiences takes energy, time and money. To create that content for multiple digital and social channels (which continue to proliferate) is near impossible. Just when you thought you'd succeeded, the audience moves on and new content is required. Aaaggghh!
Content marketing is not about constant reinvention, it's about making full use of the assets you create. Using practical examples and personal experience, Scot McKee, managing director of Birddog, will offer advice, tips and insight to make your content investment go further.

Data Discovery and BI - Is there Really a Difference?Inside Analysis
The Briefing Room with John O'Brien and Birst

While the disciplines of business intelligence and discovery certainly overlap, there are key distinctions between the two, both in terms of design point and user interface. While traditionally it is believed different architectures are required to address these differing analytic needs, is that really the case? Or is discovery simply another key capability within an overall BI platform?
Register for this episode of The Briefing Room to learn from veteran Analyst John O'Brien of Radiant Advisors as he outlines best practices for enabling high-quality business intelligence and discovery, and the architectural capabilities to enable both. He'll be briefed by Brad Peters of Birst who will tout his company's cloud BI platform. In particular, Peters will demonstrate how the Birst architecture was especially designed for enterprise-caliber BI and argue for a more inclusive future BI architecture.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Align With Strategy
Metrics must be customized to align with a company’s strategy and culture to measure its strategic goals. They should be clearly articulated and understood by everyone, have a strong supporting governance structure behind them, and have visible executive leadership commitment.
Drive Value
Metrics should focus on core financial and operational targets that make a difference by driving value. They should include both leading and lagging indicators and be reinforced with consequences for not achieving acceptable results.
Ensure Accountability
For a successful business intelligence program, there must be individual accountability and ownership for the organization’s performance against its goals. Accompanying the consequences for non-performance should be an incentive system that rewards ambitious goals.
Can Be Easily Executed
Metrics should be supported by user-friendly interfaces, intuitive design, simple-to-use systems and processes that allow management to gain insight from the information. This includes providing information at the right time so that it can be acted upon.
Maintain Quality and Consistency
A business intelligence solution’s metrics should represent the single version of the truth. Balance flexibility with standardization and provide consistency and transparency for maximum success.
Manage Interdependencies
Create an ongoing process that evaluates the effectiveness of the metrics you use and gather feedback on how you might improve the initial metrics you establish. If you need to, take corrective action and adapt your metrics over time, especially as external developments occur that might affect how the metrics are applied.
