This document describes how a sound was created by taking the sound of a whistle and adding effects in the VST plugin dblueGlitch. The author adjusted the frequency, FM amount, and FM spread dials, then manipulated the sections labeled with R letters to control when the sound would change and keep it at a desired part.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

1. To make this sound I took the sound of a whistle being blown and en
added in the VST effect dblueGlitch. In the dblue Glitch screen I
changed the frequency, FM Amt and FM spread. After adjusting
those dials I started messing around with the bar on top of the 9
sections which was split up with each one having the letter R in it. By
messing around with them I found they controlled when the sound
would change and was able to keep the sound at a specific part I
wanted.
