Dr. UMESH KUMAR SINGH
Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi and comparative Literature, School of Literature,
Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, (MGAHV) Gandhi Hills,
Wardha,Pin-442001 [Maharashtra}INDIA.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION:
1. Ph.D. Hindi Literature “Guru Nanak Dev Aur Sant Ravidas ki Kavita
Ka Tulanatamaka adhyayan” Centre for Indian Language,
School of Languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University, (JNU) New
Delhi110067, 1996
Area of Focus: Hindi Medieval Poetry
Dissertation Title: “Guru Nanak Dev Aur Sant Ravidas ki Kavita Ka Tulanatamak
adhyayan” [Comparative study of Guru Nanak Dev and Sant Ravidas
Poetry]
Brief Description: Despite efforts of reformers and the state, modern day India is
still mired in segregational cleavages of the caste system,
helped by deep rooted superstition. My book, "Guru Nanak
Dev and Sant. Ravidas: A Comparative Analyses" (New Delhi,
APH Publ. Corp, 2000: 198 pp.) has attempted to trace the
antecedents of this malady of Indian society. The book studies
at depth, for the first time, the crusade of two illiterate,
medieval period Sikh and Hindu saints who lived in adjoining
centuries, and in different regions of the Northern Indian
subcontinent: Guru Nanak Dev, the venerated first Sikh Guru
who lived in the late fourteenth century, and Sant Ravidas a
late thirteenth century low caste Chamar from Kashi, Uttar
Pradesh. Both reformers preached in the form of poetry and
slogans in simple language, the language of the people. Their
ideas transcended their times and focused on the development
and welfare of society. Both had to face the ire of the
Brahminical pillars of society of the age. I hold that the spirit
and vision of these gentle, poetic revolutionaries can help
starved age.
2. M. Phil: Hindi Literature “Kavivar Vranda kee Neeti Satsai Aur Unaki
Samajik Evam Sanskritic Avadharanaein” Centre for Indian
Language, School of Languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University,

Dissertation Title “Kavivar Vrand kee Neeti Satsai Aur Unaki Samajik Evam Sanskritik
Avadharanaein” [Social and cultural aspects in the Vrinda Ethical
Poetry]
Brief Description: Literature would not be immortal only by describing the
tensions, fallings, terrors of that socio-economic era, on
contrary the literature that presents conceptions of progressive
life by condemning the socio, economic, political, cultural
ironies will be immortal.
The moral matter evaluates the character of the mankind on
the basis of sacred or erroneous, truth or untruth, proper or
improper, well-being or evil. Vrind had tried to remove
putrefaction of the hedonistic society with a cudgel named as
'Neeti Satsai' (A book of 700 verses on Morality) which is worth
emulating for the today's mankind also. Vrind's writings will be
inspiring to go on a right path for ages to the old and new
generations of the society.
When the total society and polity was immersed in the lust of
erotic passion that was the time Vrind had written the Neeti
Satsai in the opposite direction of the on-going society in Hindi.
Vrind discussed the individual ethics, family ethics, sociological
ethics, national or political ethics, economic ethics and
religious ethics in Neeti Satsai.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION: 1. Ph.D. Hindi Literature “Guru Nanak Dev Aur Sant Ravidas ki Kavita Ka Tulanatamaka adhyayan” Centre for Indian Language, School of Languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University, (JNU) New Delhi110067, 1996 Area of Focus: Hindi Medieval Poetry Dissertation Title: “Guru Nanak Dev Aur Sant Ravidas ki Kavita Ka Tulanatamak adhyayan” [Comparative study of Guru Nanak Dev and Sant Ravidas Poetry] Brief Description: Despite efforts of reformers and the state, modern day India is still mired in segregational cleavages of the caste system, helped by deep rooted superstition. My book, "Guru Nanak Dev and Sant. Ravidas: A Comparative Analyses" (New Delhi, APH Publ. Corp, 2000: 198 pp.) has attempted to trace the antecedents of this malady of Indian society. The book studies at depth, for the first time, the crusade of two illiterate, medieval period Sikh and Hindu saints who lived in adjoining centuries, and in different regions of the Northern Indian subcontinent: Guru Nanak Dev, the venerated first Sikh Guru who lived in the late fourteenth century, and Sant Ravidas a late thirteenth century low caste Chamar from Kashi, Uttar Pradesh. Both reformers preached in the form of poetry and slogans in simple language, the language of the people. Their ideas transcended their times and focused on the development and welfare of society. Both had to face the ire of the Brahminical pillars of society of the age. I hold that the spirit and vision of these gentle, poetic revolutionaries can help starved age. 2. M. Phil: Hindi Literature “Kavivar Vranda kee Neeti Satsai Aur Unaki Samajik Evam Sanskritic Avadharanaein” Centre for Indian Language, School of Languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University, (JNU) New Delhi 1996 Area of Focus: Hindi Ethical Poetry

2 | Pa g e Dissertation Title “Kavivar Vrand kee Neeti Satsai Aur Unaki Samajik Evam Sanskritik Avadharanaein” [Social and cultural aspects in the Vrinda Ethical Poetry] Brief Description: Literature would not be immortal only by describing the tensions, fallings, terrors of that socio-economic era, on contrary the literature that presents conceptions of progressive life by condemning the socio, economic, political, cultural ironies will be immortal. The moral matter evaluates the character of the mankind on the basis of sacred or erroneous, truth or untruth, proper or improper, well-being or evil. Vrind had tried to remove putrefaction of the hedonistic society with a cudgel named as 'Neeti Satsai' (A book of 700 verses on Morality) which is worth emulating for the today's mankind also. Vrind's writings will be inspiring to go on a right path for ages to the old and new generations of the society. When the total society and polity was immersed in the lust of erotic passion that was the time Vrind had written the Neeti Satsai in the opposite direction of the on-going society in Hindi. Vrind discussed the individual ethics, family ethics, sociological ethics, national or political ethics, economic ethics and religious ethics in Neeti Satsai. 3.
