 The main objective of the project is to develop a bi-
directional pre-paid energy meter which is based on
the tariff plans.
 The application is mainly based on microcontroller.
 The microcontroller takes the reading from the
energy meter and displays the reading on the LCD
screen.
 There will be improvements in traditional billing
systems.
 It’s a post-paid system.
 The meter reader used to come to take reading.
 The load demand fluctuates a lot in a day.
 Very few users pay the electric bill on time.
 Currently minimum charges are more than it should
be.

To take reading from energy meter.
To Calculate the remaining balance.
To distinguish between the units sold and
purchased.
To apply the charge of units as per tariff
scheme.
To communicate to retailer and consumer.
To verify that the message is received from
authorized retailer or someone else.
To detect that the message is for recharge
or anything else and for how many rupees of
recharge.
To decide that the message is to be send to
retailer or consumer.
To make a bi directional meter.
To make communication with real time
clock.
 Due to tariff scheme the load will not fluctuate too
much in a day.
 The losses will reduce due to moderate demand.
 The person who doesn’t use the electricity can sell
their electricity.
 Meter reader will not have to come to take meter
reading.
 Everyone has to pay before they use.
 We use tariff base scheme which can moderate the
load demand.
 Everyone has to pay the fix cost whether they are
using the electricity or not.
 This project have a versatile scope in future.
 For making a smart grid it is very useful.
 Will promote the non-conventional energy
sources.
 Will promote the full utilization of electrical
energy.
