Why should teachers join a professional
organization?
Joining a professional teaching organization can be highly beneficial for
teachers by providing them with numerous advantages and opportunities for
growth. Some of the specific benefits include:
*Access to Professional Development
*Networking
*Access to Resources
*Advocacy and Representation
*Career Growth
International Society for Technology in Education
(ISTE)
“ISTE's mission is to empower educators to reimagine and redesign learning
through impactful pedagogy and meaningful technology use. We achieve this by
offering transformative professional learning, fostering vibrant communities, and
ensuring that digital tools and experiences are accessible and effective.” (ISTE,
2020)
ISTE Resources
● ISTE Standards
● ISTE Learning Library
● Professional Development
ISTE-Standards
ISTE is broken into four different standards
● Students
● Educators
● Education Leaders
● Coaches
“The ISTE Standards are a framework that guides educators, leaders and
coaches in using technology to create high-impact, sustainable, scalable and
equitable learning experiences. They have been adopted by all U.S. states and
many countries worldwide.” (ISTE, 2020)
ISTE-Student Standards
The ISTE Student Standards are dedicated to students, putting them at the center
of their learning journey, making sure their perspectives and voices are heard.
ISTE-Educator Standards
The ISTE Educator Standards enhance your teaching skills but also foster a
sense of collaboration with colleagues. These standards help educators
embrace the challenge of exploring new teaching methods and equip their
students to take control of their own learning.
ISTE-Learning Library
The ISTE Learning Library provides access to various resources that can support teachers in
meeting the needs of their students. The resources that are provided include:
● Books
● Blog Posts
● Topic Guides
● Podcasts
● Webinars
● Journals
ISTE-Library continued
Educators can find information specific to topics that support their practice and meet the needs of their
students. Since I am a behavior teacher who supports students with Social and Emotional needs, I can gain
specific information that will help me address the needs of my students. The Blog Posts section is a great way
to view other educators and professional perspectives on specific topics. I conducted a search for Social and
Emotional resources and the blog titled, “Collecting Real-Time Data to Support Student Well-Being” presents
information and resources that I would find beneficial to my specific students. Information from this blog
included:
● Striking a balance with tech to maximize our time.
● Finding ways to use tech and/or social media for good.
● Mastering techniques to handle stress and everyday pressures.
● Staying in control of our personal info and privacy online.

Notes for each section:
● Slide 1-Assignment/Class Information
● Slide 2-This presentation is based off of professional development and specifically why should teachers join a Professional Organization.
Joining a Professional Organization provides access to professional development, networking Opportunities, access to resources, advocacy and
representation for educators, and career growth.
● Slide 3-The International Society for Technology in Education otherwise known as ISTE, can benefit teachers in many ways. This
organization can provide access to educational technology resources, professional learning communities, and Global perspectives. ISTE also
provides resources which can help teachers enhance their teaching skills, provide professional recognition, provide networking opportunities, and
provide access to exclusive resources specific to this community.
● Slide 4-For this professional development assignment, we're going to take a look at three specific ISTE resources that are provided to
educators. The first resource is the set of ISTE standards. The second set of resources are the ISTE learning library. Lastly, the third set of
resources is surrounded by access to professional development provided through the ISTE resources.
● Slide 5-The first set of ISTE resources are the ISTE standards. There are four different sets of standards that ISTE provides. These standards
include standards for students, standards for educators, standards for education leaders, and standards for coaches. These standards help guide
each subcategory in providing essential guidance to meet the needs of these individuals.

Notes for each section cont.-
● Slide 9-Since the ISTE learning library provides access to various resources, I wanted to specifically look at resources
related to social emotional learning. By going on the ISTE learning library, I was able to select blog posts and complete a
search for social emotional learning resources. Since I am a behavior teacher who supports students with social emotional
needs, I figured I could gain specific information that will help me address the needs of my students. The blog post section
is a great way to view other Educators and professional perspectives on specific topics. I conducted a search for the social

can empower a teacher's ability in the digital age with tailored online courses. These courses are designed to elevate an
educator's expertise, allow educators to grow professionally, and ignite creativity in an educator’s educational community
through customizable learning opportunities.

● Slide 11-For this assignment, we were supposed to look at the most recent ISTE Edtech Conference which took place in June of 2023 in Pennsylvania. I
attempted to look up the information from this previous conference and could not find access to the sessions or the speakers. Due to this, I looked at the
upcoming ISTE Edtech Conference for 2024 which is taking place in Denver Colorado. Fortunately for me, I live just outside of Denver and hope to make my
way to this conference this upcoming June.
● Looking at the information for the upcoming 2024 conference there are five key presenters that will be speaking over the course of a few days. These
presenters include Dr. Kayla Holland, Jen Jall, Michael Hhernandez, Opal Davis Dawson, and Victor Hicks.
● Dr. Kaylah Holland specializes in empowering educators through professional development, individual coaching, and creative lesson design approaches.
● Jen Hall works closely with teachers to incorporate technology effectively into standards-based lessons, offering designed training sessions and
organizing relevant district-wide professional development activities.

students.

● Slide 12-Two of the specific sessions for the upcoming ISTE Edtech conference
include “Empowering Student Voices in the School to Prison Pipeline” and “Creativity
Playground”. I selected these two sessions based on the needs of my own students and
also wanting to integrate technology in my classroom more often and with the most
recent and up-to-date information.
