Why I Don t Hate The Drug Essay
I sat in a lawn chair besides my boyfriend of four months as I watched his one of his
new pledge members take the first hit. He took the bowl that was shaped like a
fish to his lips and light the crumbed up herb. Breathing it in for a few seconds he
blew smoke out of his mouth. The room filled with the smell of past memories that
made me lightly cringe. I watch the smoke vaporize in the air until it was nothing.
The fish bowl circled around for person to person each mimicking the person
besides them actions. I held my breath as it landed on my boyfriend watching his
every move to see what he would decide to do. The smell of marijuana was
honestly smells worse to me than dog shit because all the haunting memories I
have with the drug. Now I don t hate the drug. I m not that person who hates people
who smoke either. Yet I know after my last relationship I didn t want to date
someone who smoke. My last boyfriend was a very good example of a complete
definition of someone who s an addict. Whenever something went wrong. He
smoked. Whenever something went right. He smoked. Whenever he woke up. He
smoked. If he couldn t fall asleep. You guessed it he smoked. I could make a list the
goes on for fifty pages of the reason why he smoked marijuana yet it wouldn t do
me any good.. Because of his addiction I hated the drug. It would cause every single
one of our fights. I remember one especially and it was when we celebrating dating
for six months. We had been watching Dexter
The Pros And Cons Of Gene Therapy
The beauty of the human race is the complexity in which our bodies present
themselves in comparison to other organisms that live on Earth. Evolution has taken
its sweet time to produce the alpha organisms we have become today, and at the
pinnacle of human evolution is our DNA: a unique, intricate, and complex
representation of millions of years of evolutionary mutations. The number one cause
of genetic diversity is mutations; mutations occur randomly and can produce
beneficial or harmful nucleotide sequences. Nucleotide sequences code for the
production of proteins that perform the majority of roles in our bodies. When harmful
mutations halt protein production or cause malicious protein production, the body
can be effected in numerous ways. The majority of disorders expressed by humans
across the globe are genetic, meaning that the DNAof the individual with the genetic
disorder contains errors or mutations that cause the subsequent symptoms to occur.
Gene therapy is a field of study that focuses on the correction of mutations in DNA
sequences. The ultimate goal of Gene Therapy is to prevent the inheritance of
mutations that cause genetic disorders. In the medical community this is called Germ
line Gene Therapy. While this is the least ventured area of gene therapy, its has been
proven to be the most promising in reference to advancing medicine to new heights
when the ethical situation changes. The second goal of Gene Therapy is to cure the
patients with the genetic

about Hunger Map that was shocking; namely: (1) more than 800 million people

starvation due to poor nutrition due to disease more than AIDS, Tuberculosis and
Malaria; (4) a lot of people sick due to malnutrition (World Food Programme,

Symbols In Esperanza Rising By Pam MuГѓВ±oz Ryan
Esperanza Ortega of El Rancho de las Rosas is a young Hispanic girl that must
overcome strenuous obstacles in order to help her family. The novel Esperanza
Rising by Pam MuГ±oz Ryan has many symbols that contribute to the theme, but one
of the major motifs present is the process of crocheting the quilt. This symbol lasts
throughout the entire book, but the message only gets stronger for this symbol goes
hand in hand with the storyline. Esperanza is an only child in her family, and during
this time it was not acceptable for women to own land. When Esperanza s papa
gets killed there were no other men in the family, so the land that Esperanza had
grown up on and loved would soon all be taken away. Unless her mama sacrificers
herself and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The crochet technique of making mountains and valleys applies greatly to
everything that Esperanza goes through on her migration to California. This
symbol is both in a literal and a figurative sense. Esperanza literally starts at the top
in Mexico. She lives on acres of land in a beautiful vineyard, she has servants, and
is well educated. But when trouble arrives, Esperanza must go to the bottom of the
valley in California. Here she has nothing; she lives in a small house in an
immigrant farm, she works hard every day, and she does not know any English.
Life as she knew it had completely changed. Migrating to a new place that is
unknown, everyone is new, and the language is not known is a grueling change
and as a young child this must have been very difficult for Esperanza to handle. In
Esperanza s eyes every step she takes just brings her lower and lower into the
valley. Nothing seems to be going right, it is almost as if the figurative mountain
Esperanza must climb keeps growing taller. In Esperanza s eyes she was taken
from her perfect world and placed into a world where she could no longer feel the
heart beat of the earth (MuГ±oz Ryan 92). This was detrimental to her, for she had
no idea what to do next; she had given up. Esperanza finally began to understand
her new life, but as soon as mama became ill, Esperanza s world shattered all around
her again. She no longer had papa, abuelita, or mama by her side. She was all alone
and it was up to her to climb up the
William Wordsworth As A Romantic Poet
William Wordsworth was born in April 7, 1770 in a village on the edge of the Lake
District in northwest England. In 1787 Wordsworth was enrolled at St. Johs
College, Cambridge as a scholarship student, but because he was un interested in
the curriculum, he decided to depend on self reading. During his twenty s years of
central events have took place in Wordsworth life, receiving money from a friend
that enabled him to process a house, and the establishment of collaboration with
Smauel coleride that led to the publication of a volume of poems and ballads. Many
of his poems were composed while he was walking through a neighborhood, a park,
or uninhabited area. (McDonnell. Veidemanis and pfordresher, 1991, pp: 449, 462).

In living in a remote part of near a lake, Wordsworth considered that a valuable
opportunity and experience to amply his imagination as a poet, also he used to
revise and re write and reorganize his poems to appear in the final form (Watson
Towheed, p, 21).
1 Romantic writers as Wordsworth see themselves as reacting against the though
and literary practices of the proceeding century. The major subject in the romantic
work especially in the poems as the daffodil by William Wordsworth is the beauty
and the satisfactions achieved from the nature followed by feelings of pleasure.
Nature meant great deal to the romantics, such as it has been perceived as the
healing power, a source of subject and image, a resort from the artificial constructs of
Hopi Indian Perspectives
The Hopi peoples continue to thrive and preserve their culture for as long as
humans have been known to inhabit this Earth. As Jake and Susanne Page
maintain, they are not only the oldest dwellers in this land but are considered by
most other Native Americans to have a wisdom, a knowledge of things, beyond
average comprehension (1994:19). This wisdom comes from a deep connection to
all things natural and of this Earth. The Hopis have always relied on nature to guide
them spiritually, philosophically, as well as physically. They rely on word of mouth
to pass down beliefs and teach values to each new generation so that the
Hopivotskwani the Hopipath of life may continue on. (Parezo 1996:237) Through the
examination of ethnographic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hopis recognize that their thoughts, prayers, wishes, and feelings affect the balance
of the world around them; therefore simply keeping a positive outlook may be all
the difference needed to keep crops prosperous. (Ferrero 1983) Seen as the future
of the Hopi clan, the Kachinas inspire life on Earth and thereafter. The Hopis
understand that through their hard work, dedication, and faith they are preparing
for the future of their people. Another important part of the Hopi culture, is the
idea that time is circular and ongoing. Hopis emerged from the spirit world to take
on their role in life as part of nature. They believe that their connection with the
land, animals, and spirits is a part of their Hopivotskowani. Therefore, they respect
the natural and cyclical tendency of life. Just as the seasons of the year bring life
and death to many plants and animals, the Hopi people accept life and death as part
of the human existence. While alive, a Hopi must do his/her part to learn about the
culture and how to do things the Hopi way , in order to prepare one s self for the
spirit world. (Ferrero 1983) Then, as one enters the spiritual world, his/her spirit
becomes a force of life giving nature and serves as a guide for young Hopis. The
circular motion of time allows the Hopis to accept occurrences as part of a larger
plan than one can see for one s self.
The Hopi people are extremely passionate about their cultural

This essay will explain, discuss and examine the effects of Edgar
Allen Poe s The Murders in the Rue Morgue had on other authors writing detective
stories during the 19th century. The Murders in the
Rue Morgue was a new kind of story and Edgar Allen Poe had many authors imitate

There is another point , which is evident in the detective stories we have read. This
is that the detective seems to be an amateur and someone who doesn t like the
Formal Police Service. Take Dupin for example. He said this about the Parisian
Police: The Parisian Police, so much extolled for acumen, are cunning, but no more.
This gives the reader the impression that Dupin doesn t like the Police and that
Dupin thinks a lot of himself. This is also apparent with Holmes.
There was a case in The Speckled Band when Holmes criticised the
Police because they did not search the room thoroughly. He said: We will have to
search the room with care to see what the Police have missed out. This clearly gives
the reader the impression that
Sherlock does not like the Police.
The detectives also seem to be in a world of their own and often seem to have highly
individual personalities. We can see that Dupin
waffles quite a lot, when he speaks. Lets look at when he starts to talk about the
people who have heard the voice. He starts by saying:
That was the evidence itself . . . . and talks like this for the next four paragraphs.
This tells me that, at times. Dupin can talk a load of nonsense and he can be quite
tedious. We can also see the detective s different
Religion And Kingship In China, India, And Egypt
The religion and kingship Among the ancient civilizations of China, India and Egypt,
their religion and kingship are strongly related to each other. However, they all have
their own concept about how the religious belief plays a role in the authority of the
kingship and the connection between the king and the god.
In the ancient India, the two most well known and developed through nowadays
religions are Hinduism and Buddhism. Hinduism is basically saying that reincarnation

People believe that there are remarkable number of gods associated with heavenly
bodies and natural forces. The king of the Egypt was also believed to be a
combination of the divine and the mortal. He can also be considered the messenger
or connection between god and humankind. But in ancient China Shang dynasty,
the ruling elite believed in the existence of supernatural forces, they could
communicate with these forces by using the oracle bone to obtain divine
intervention on matter in the world. Because the god and goddesses all have their
different kind of power, in order for our desire or getting something from them, we
have to sacrifice first. In china, people use dead animal as something that we want
to devote to the god so they can tell the god what they want from them. Because
those gods has supernatural powers and they except the sacrifice, so when some
rulers did some bad things to the society, he will make some bad things to happen
just to remind them and warn them about it is a terrible thing to do. The example
could be like earthquake, tsunami or volcanic
Passion Is Overrated Research Paper
Passion is Overrated??
Passion is defined as a strong and barely controllable emotion. Every person, one
way or another, has a passion and it is what drives our society to be better, to
advance. Each person finds their passion at different points of their life, but a
majority of those people find one while they attend college. Passion in one s life
could lead to a slew of achievements. When people find a passion, it leads to them
making it big, in their own way; passion pushes our society to the brink, but a man
with no passion cannot last.
When a person finds a passion, something that they cannot live without, that is when
they make it big, their passion allows them to succeed in life. Bishop T.D. Jakes,

A lifestyle where someone has everything they wished to have. A passion doesn t just
help ourselves, but our society as a whole.
Passion leads our society to the brink, but not in a bad way. Passions lead our society
to the brink of discovery and creativity. When someone finds something they love
and is passionate about they work hard at it to grow and create something beautiful.
Taking a look at Jackson
Pollock, we see how he discovered a passion for art, and what did he do? He created a
new form of art, he discovered something that he loved and it created this movement
of a new era of art.
This Painting to the left easily shows the passion he had for his work. He slaved over
his art. He worked passionately over his work, making each one a masterpiece of its
own.
The figure to the right shows how much work, and precision went into

A Streetcar Named Desire Character Analysis Essay
Tennessee Williams represents the characters through his own background. The fact
that he was from a dysfunctional background and the difficulty of his family life
really does symbolise how he came about creating the characters in A Streetcar
Named Desire. In this essay, the aim will be to highlight the concepts and themes
behind the characters in terms of loneliness, odd, faded and frightened using firm
references from the play and how they are symbolic of Williams.
The first character who is clearly in distress and feeling lonely is Blanche. Her use
of the theme illusion and reality is shown by an external character analysis But

The Trial Of Galileo Galilei
For most people of the modern age, a clear distinction exists between the truth as
professed by religious belief, and the truth as professed by scientific observation.
While there are many people who are able to hold scientific as well as religious
views, they tend to hold one or the other as being supreme. Therefore, a religious
person may ascribe themselves to certain scientific theories, but they will always fall
back on their religious teachings when they seek the ultimate truth, and vice versa for
a person with a strong trust in the sciences. For most of the early history of humans,
religionand science mingled freely with one another, and at times even lent evidence
to support each other as being true. However, this all changed... Show more content

There were many who cited portions of scripture such as Joshua 10:13, which states
So the Sun stood still in the midst of heaven (Joshua 10:13), and Isaiah 40:22, which
states he that stretcheth out the heavens as nothing, and spreadeth them out as a tent
to dwell in. (Isaiah 40:22), as pieces of holy evidence to refute and definitely
disprove the heliocentric theory as truth. However, Galileo could not easily be
written off as a rambling, heretical madman either, seeing as his theories were first
proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus, who was not only a Catholic, but a priest and a
canon. (Galileo, Letter to Christina, 2) Even if Galileo was not a respected member
of the Church, Copernicus was, and if his theories had originally been proposed by a
Catholic canon, then it was harder to dismiss his ideas as heretical. Additionally,
Galileo himself frequently offered to present others with evidence of the truth of his
theories, stating to the leading philosophers of the faculty here...I have offered a
thousand times of my own accord to show my studies... (Galileo, Letter to Kepler).
Furthermore, in discussing the conflict between the Church and scientists such as
Galileo, it must be noted that both parties held themselves to be unquestionably
correct in the argument, because they both based themselves in what they believed to
be irrefutable truth. The Church viewed the holy
Essay on New London Eminent Domain
Justice Stevens believes that is it the right of the government for taking land from
private owners under eminent domain and using that land for public use. Steven
believes that eminent domain is constitutional as long as the public welfare is
increased such as increasing tax and other revenues and stimulating a troubled city.
New London was an economically insufficient city compared to the averages in
Connecticut. He believed that making the city more attractive was making good use
of the Takings Clause in the U.S. Constitution. He also thinks that the city carefully
constructed a plan in order to benefit the community rather than hinder it. Overall,

The authors of these majority and minority opinions are quite different. Steven
believes that making a city more attractive and profitable is worth using eminent
domain while O Connor believes that it makes every home and business be put in
jeopardy for an unnecessary use of overused power. Although both agree that in
some instances eminent domain is appropriate, they disagree on this particular
case of the New London community. Before I began to read this case I made my
own assumptions about eminent domain. Although I believe that it is not alright
for eminent domain to be applied to all cases, I do believe that eminent domain is
necessary in this case. The city was very apparently deteriorating and it is part of
the cities job to make the community appealing again. Like it was stated, the
population has not been as low as 24,000 residents since 1920. That was over 50
years ago. I may not always agree with using eminent domain in all instances but to
make a city more profitable and more appealing to residents seems to me like a good
use of property. Just compensation is something I may have a problem with. From
what I have heard, the government does not always give the

Analyzing History in The Aeneid The Aeneid, written by Virgil, is an epic poem
following Aeneas journey finding the prophesied new city. The Aeneid has
dependably been viewed as one of the top scholarly works ever made because of the
alluding references to Virgil s history. In this epic poem, there are mentions from
Virgil s historical context, like the progress of Augustusrise to power and the
tragedies of the Late Republic s civil wars. Virgil lived through the first age of the
Roman Empire, amid the rule of the sovereign Octavian, later known as Augustus.
Civil war came up between Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus. Octavian and Antony
were the only ones remaining by 36 B.C.; they eventually began warring against each
other. In 31 B.C., the Battle of Actium ended with Octavian defeating Antony and his
ally Cleopatra of Egypt, thereby establishing himself as sole ruler of Rome, making
him the first emperor of Ancient Rome. This was the summit of strife that had
tormented Rome for the past half century, after all of the issues Rome faced, many
looked to Augustus to convey greatly required security to the state. The Aeneid is a
story revolving around Aeneas journey. Aeneas and the Trojans escape from their

A Just Man Should Fear No Death in the Apology by Plato
Essay
Plato s Apology
The Apology was written by Plato, and relates Socrates defense at his trial on charges
of corrupting the youth and impiety. Socrates argues that he is innocent of both
charges. His defense is ultimately unsuccessful, and he is convicted and sentenced to
death. Socrates concludes the Apology by arguing that a just man should have no fear
of death.
Socrates defends himself against the charges brought against him by his prosecutor
Meletus in two ways. One way consists of a description of Socrates motivation and
method, which he hopes will explain to the jury why some people, including his
prosecutors, dislike him. The second defense consists of Socrates responding directly
to the two charges brought against him: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He points out that he has never received pay for his services, and presents his
poverty as proof of his service to the god (p. 30). Finally, Socrates claims that the
god has given him a divine sign which warns him when he is about to do something
wrong. It is this sign, he says, that has prevented him from leading a public life of
politics. Socrates responds to the charge that he is guilty of corrupting the youth, in
two ways. The first way (p. 28) attempts to show that Meletus charge is frivolous on
the grounds that it does not conform to plausible examples of how creatures become
corrupted. Under questioning from Socrates, Meletus grants that all of the citizens of
Athens except Socrates benefit the youth of Athens; Socrates alone corrupts them.
Yet this is implausible, Socrates implies, for in other cases of corruption, such as the
corruption of horses by bad owners, the contrary is the case, with only one or a few
individuals benefiting them, and most people corrupting them. Socrates second
argument against the charge of corrupting the youth presents a dilemma. Although
Meletus asserts that Socrates corrupts the youth deliberately, Socrates vehemently
denies this (p. 29). Assuming that the alleged corruption is not deliberate, Socrates
then presents Meletus with two possibilities: Either I do not corrupt the young or,

The analysis may also reveal that the staff members of Southwest are suitable. It is
very important that management first has an understanding of the fundamental
business problems or opportunities that the organization may face due to the
acquisition. Management will be tasked with making decisions that will ultimately
determine the success or failure of the restructure. Most executives decide that some
level of reorganization is needed whenever there is new business. As it stands, there
are many reorganizations that are unsuccessful because they are not viewing the
process correctly. The reorganization should improve the organizations ability to
handle its most important decisions more effectively. (Blenko, Mankins, amp;
Rogers, 2010)Along with assessing the workforce, the organization must also identify
areas that may need to be restructured to achieve the goals of the company.
Restructuring the organization will be considered to be a major reconfiguration of
the internal administrative structure that is associated with an intentional
management change program. The goal of the restructuring will include results such
as productivity improvements, cost reductions, increased shareholder value, and/or a
better alignment of the organization with a changing environment. It s important to
recognize that although management views restructuring as a source of order during
a turbulent time, their subordinates view restructuring as a source of disorder because

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the diagnosis for any infant in which the
cause of death cannot be determined. This is a broadly researched topic and yet no
definitive conclusion can be made on the cause and mechanisms that structure this
disease. The Center of Disease and Control (CDC) has reported that over 4,000 infant
deaths are of unknown cause each year [1] and defined as SIDS. This equates to a
1 in 3 ratio of all infant deaths being associated to SIDS. SIDS is characterized by
death of infants ranging in age from 1 12 months of age. It is expected that some
infants pass in their sleep due to accidental suffocation, heat and lack of air
circulation, or limited health resources due to socioeconomic status, as experimented

case than non virulent H. influenzae may be able to be used as a possible way to
exclude or at least lessen the amount of the S. aureus by inhabiting the nasopharynx,
but not causing any symptomatic carriage. This may lessen the ability for the S.

environment. In this study we will determine if the non virulent strain is as effective
in reducing the S. aureus pathogenicity in vivo by comparing both types of H.

The Theme Of Madness In Michel Foucault s Madness
And...
Throughout the ages the topic of madness has been approached in many distinct
manners. In the comic book Batman: The Killing Joke especially in the scene
presented in the stimulus above a lot of attention is paid to Joker s lunacy. In this
book, he is portrayed not as a complete and indisputable madman but rather as a
character banding the borderline between sanity and madness. Such a situation
evokes questions about the nature of madness and its understanding in our world.
From the philosophical perspective, this topic has been raised by numerous
philosophers; among whom Michel Foucault, in the book Madness and Civilization: A
History of Insanity in the Age of Reason, is the most famous for his critique of the
post Enlightenment attitude... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He joins a small gang of criminals to make easy money. Before the day of the heist,
his wife and unborn child die in an accident. He is forced to commit the crime and
in the middle of it is met by the Batman. Startled, he falls into a vat of chemicals in
the factory where the crime is taking place and escapes it with already changed
personality. From this moment, all his crimes are motivated, among other reasons,
by the need to cope with the reality around him. Such an interpretation of madness
is astonishingly similar to the one presented by Plato in Phaedrus. In this dialogue,
Plato discusses the relationship between madness, divinity, and love (eros). What is
formed by a combination of madness and love is a passion which is characterised
as human madness. On the opposing side, there is divine madness which Plato
directly regards as a gift from the god. Among this category, four different subtypes
of madness are distinguished and one of them can be read as a perfect justification of

Battles of Lexington and Concord
Introduction
The Battles of Lexington and Concord occurred on 19 April 1775 between the British
Regulars and the Patriot Militia, also known today as Americans, in the
Massachusetts towns of Lexington and Concord. The Battles of Lexington and
Concord is often referred to as the Shot Heard Around the World and the beginning of
the American Revolutionary War(Fischer, 1994). The Battles of Lexington and
Concord consisted of in four events: the skirmish in Lexington between the British
Regulars and the Lexington Training Band, the search and seizure of arms, munitions
and military stores in Concord, the battles between the Regulars and the militias
during the march of the Regulars back to Boston and the surrounding of Boston by the

General Gage understood that detaining the key leaders would not prove fruitful
and therefore changed the mission to strictly searching for and seizing arms,
munitions, supplies, and military stores. General Gage gave this mission to
Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith with very discreet orders to not brief his
soldiers as to what the exact mission would be. General Gage also appointed Major
John Pitcairn as the Executive Officer for the mission. The initial mission would
consist of approximately 700 British Regulars, who were pulled from 11 of
General Gage s 13 infantry regiments. Major Pitcairn would command 10 elite
infantry companies and Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Bernard would command 11
grenadier companies. Of the 700 Regulars assigned to conduct the mission, 350
were from the grenadier companies: 4th (King s Own), 5th, 10th, 18th (Royal Irish),
23rd, 38th, 43rd, 47th, 52nd and 59th Regiments of Foot as well as the 1st battalion

The Struggle In Ankeny-Personal Narrative Essay
It was a spring day in 2011. My friends, Alexa and Ella, and I were bored. We were
trying to figure out something to do. We could go to my office and I ll take you on
forklift rides, my dad offered. I had ridden on the forklift multiple times, and I
always had fun, so I agreed with him. My friends did not know what it was like, so
they agreed as well. Then we took off to my dad s work in Ankeny. When we
arrived, we were met with a conflict: Ella was uncomfortable with riding the forklift
and she would rather watch instead. How about you help me drive the forklift
while Ruby and Alexa ride on it? my dad asked. We all thought that it was a brilliant
idea. Little did we know that letting Ella drive was going to be a big mistake. My dad

Comedy Of Errors By David Lindsay-Abare
Northern Arizona University s Production of Comedy of Errors was, by far the
funniest thing I have ever seen, as far as plays go. Now, I haven t seen very many
plays in person, but it was still hilarious. It was definitely different from the last play
I saw, which was Good People by David Lindsay Abaire. I enjoyed both plays, but for
different reasons. I won t go into detail about Good People, because that was my last
paper. This paper is about Comedy of Errors. If you haven t seen this particular play, I
will tell you a basic plot before I critique the script. The story is about a familythat
was involved in a shipwreck. The family consists of identical twin boys named

The Pros And Cons Of Ethnic Nationalism
To argue ethnic nationalism as a primordial phenomenon would be to believe that
exclusive bias based off of individual characteristics is of basic human instinct.
However that is a false statement which creates a contradiction in the primordial
argument. Ethnic Nationalism can t be of natural instinct if it isn t natural for
humans to lack compassion for one another. Theoretically for ethnic nationalism to
be considered completely natural, humans need to be evidenced to show no signs of
natural compassion from the beginning of life. That isn t possible. However there is
viable evidence that human beings feel compassion towards those of all social
groups early in life. Something an ethnic nationalist would lack. Research done at the

Mayflower s Journey Of A Midwife
In the simplest terms, a midwife is someone, traditionally female, who assists women
in childbirth. Yet, a midwife is much more than an assistant in the process of labor,
but a strong, wise woman, capable of holding the lives of the mother and child.
Throughout history, women have assisted each other through pregnancy and delivery.
It was not until the discovery of new germ theories and the development of
biomedicine that traditional midwiferyhas been pushed to the side. However, despite
wishes of allopathic doctors, midwives have stood strong and remained present
worldwide. Midwifery, in the eyes of midwives, is a philosophy based on the
naturalness of pregnancy and labor that allows women to have power through an

• Explain The Role Of Cognitive Development In
Infants
that this first cognitive development stage encompasses six substages.10 Feeding
abilities change as infants meet the development goals of the various stages. For
example, when infants gain the ability to coordinate single movements they will be
able to pick up small pieces of food and develop the ability to self feed (Table
6.2).10 General motor skills, behavioral changes, and facial expressions also play
important roles in the development of infants eating habits and their ability to eat
food and to drink
Within the health care environment, nurses are the cornerstone of assessing infant
growth and development. Generally, assessment of infant focuses on 4 areas:
physical, social, emotional, and cognitive capabilities. Examples of physical
assessment include gross and fine motor skills as well as strength, how easily an
infant becomes tired, and pain tolerance. Social assessment is determined by
interactions with others. Examples of emotional assessment include how the infant
reacts to people and situations, and examples of cognitive assessment include thought
and reasoning. It is important for the nurse who is conducting the assessment to
establish a good rapport with the family. Good rapport will form a ... Show more

My Personal Past Experience
When I think of my own personal past experiences, I think of the most significant
events and most likely think that those are the times that have shaped you as who
you are today and who you are in the future. When my grandpa had passed away
there were major effects that my family and I had faced. Difficulties like not being
able to sleep at night and having lost someone who meant something special to
everyone. When I think about the smaller challenges I have faced in the pastand
throughout my life, I can start to put together that even the most insignificant events
that have happened in the past could make a significant impact on the person I am in
my near or far future. Occurrences like going through broken bones, losing friends, or
even a gym teacher might have a greater force than I may have expected.
In kindergarten I decided that I was going to run to the playground to start a game
that would be the highlight of the day. I ran up the stairs and onto the bridge but,
suddenly my legs had decided to give out on me and I landed with my hands on the
bridge with my thumb stuck in one of the small holes on the bridge. I didn t think
my finger was stuck so as a normal child would do I stood up really fast and
accidently ripped my thumb out of the bridge. It immediately snapped and my thumb
started to swell and turn a variety of deep blues, purples, and blacks. This turned into

The Relationship Between Methamphetamine Use And
Paranoia
In 2014, Kalayasiri, R., Verachai, V., Gelernter, J., Mutirangura, A., Malison, R.
conducted a study of the relationship between methamphetamine use and paranoia.
Methamphetamine is one of the drugs that can cause addiction very easily. Among
methamphetamine dependent individuals, paranoia appears to occur increasingly
rapidly in a course of a session of methamphetamine use (Kalayasiri et al., 2014, p.
965). Kalayasiri et al., (2014) calls this type of paranoiamethamphetamine induced
paranoia (Kalayasiri et al., p. 965). Methamphetamine is a stimulant that changes the
functions of some neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, making it more available in
the body; this leads to symptoms of paranoia (Kalayasari, et al., 2014, p.965).

110). People who don t sleep enough may have a hard time concentrating and
function. Insomnia consists in difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep or
nonrestorative sleep causing significant functional impairment (Reeve et al., 2015, p.
98). It may affect how the person perceives the environment and increase the
formation and prolongation of persecutory ideation (Reeve et al., 2015, p. 108). The
clinical study demonstrated that treatment of insomnia using cognitive behavioral
therapy and ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) can reduce paranoid episodes and
improve sleep (Reeve et al., 2015, p. 110). Reeve et al., (2015) states that melatonin
inhibits dopamine release, increases dopamine turnover, and alters dopamine receptor
activation (p.111). Patients diagnosed with sleep disorder need to follow a plan of
treatment to avoid complications, such as paranoia, depression, and other psychotic
disorders.
We have seen that paranoia can be caused by many factors: genetic, medication,
life experiences and sleep disorders. Some of the factors can be modified and
eliminated, such as sleep disorders. Stopping bullying in schools is also crucial.
Bullying is affecting people and might have severe consequences for the victim and
the people around them. It is our responsibility as members of society to respect each

Analysis Of The Poem The Old Testament
One of the most interesting details of this picture is its shape. Most pieces that we
see are rectangular or square. This piece is circular. Not only that, but there are also
words around the border of the scene. After my first look at this picture, I think that
there is a strong feminist undertone here. A woman is the main focal point, and not
only that but she is also about to kill a man. She is exuding power. This scene is
reminiscent of a biblical story in the Old Testamentwhere a woman drives a stake
through a man s head during wartime.
Descriptive Analysis One of the first elements of this piece was the contrast. The
piece was done in black and white so there are mainly just highlights and shadows.

So here we have a woman who has all the power in this situation. She is holding a
hammer to the head of this man who we can see is very strong, and he cannot stop
her. To create the contrast in this scene, the artist relied heavily on the use of lines.
There is a boundary line that encompasses the entire picture. The fact that the
boundary line of this piece is in a circle makes the scene feels as if it holds some
sort of significance. There is a type of painting the tondo where the artist creates his
/her piece with a circular boundary line. This style of art was very popular in Italy
during the Renaissance and was usually used to convey religious ideas. This
evidence would support the idea that this scene depicts a biblical story from the Old
Testament. The artist also uses the method of hatching and cross hatching to give a
sense of depth. The use of hatching is very heavily defined on the curtains around
the backside of the tent. Cross hatching is used to define a shadow on the left side of
the curtain. This effect makes it feel as though this area of the tent is farther away
from the viewer s vantage point. The artist also uses hatching on the two main
subjects to define their bodies even under their clothes. This method helps the artist
contribute to the effect of contrast. Areas where there is little to no hatching seem
lighter and thus closer to the viewer.

The Importance Of Citizenship In The United States
Immigrants traveling to the US face many hardships whether they re children or
adults. If not all, many jeopardize their homeland lives due to political issues, provide
for their families or evading potential death. The US should understand the reason
why immigrants aren t granted citizenship as often, ways immigrant children are
treated, and the extensive wait to become a citizen. The US is among the countries
where the immigrants have the hardest time in becoming the citizens. Since the
beginning of the year 2000, immigrants have been encountering a complicated
process of the US citizenship and a permanent residency. Terrorism has often affected
the country over the years, making the government extra careful when accepting and
registering individuals for the US citizenship. Establishment of permanent residency
in the US is almost impossible, especially when a person is coming to the US on
grounds other than through an approved job or through their families who are the
citizens of the U.S. Therefore; the immigrants are not usually granted the citizenship
in the US so often (Motomura, 16).
The U.S. government system considers and grants citizenship on special condition
among the immigrants. Besides, there is a lottery that other people may apply for.
People
Kulhahay 2 who follow these routes of the special citizenship qualifications may not
know how difficult or impossible it could be to become a citizen and acquire the
residency in the United States (Coutin 33).
The National League Of Major League Baseball
Should there be a designated hitter in the national league in major league baseball?
That is the question that is being asked around major league baseball by fans,
owners, managers, and the players. If a team is playing in an American league ball
park both teams must use a designated hitter in place of the pitcher. If a team is
playing in a National leagueball park both teams pitchers must hit instead of having a
designated hitter. This is set to give each league an advantage when playing in
interleague games because National league teams normally carry an extra pitcher
while American league teams normally carry an extra hitter. However, injury
concerns, numbers, and entertainment factors play a huge part in the designated hitter

An injury like this is more of a freak accident rather than an injury that could be
prevented. A line drive up the middle that hits the pitcher may look bad, but in
most cases they usually only miss a few starts. Generally it is concussions which
there are proper protocols for concussion related incidents. This year two National
league pitchers have been injured while hit. That may not necessarily seem like a
high number, but it is when it is related to pitchers. Adam Wainwright is the ace of
the St. Louis Cardinals and this year he had a season ending injury while he was
leaving the box to run to first. In this example, the cardinals lost their ace for the
year. Teams do not want to see their ace or any pitchers go down because it could
affect their playoff aspirations. Even though Wainwright went down the cardinals
are currently in first place of their division. They even have two pitchers with 10
wins or more, but it does not always happen like that. Take the Chicago Cubs for
example who are currently in the race to be in position to contend for a wild card
spot. Jon Lester is their best pitcher on their staff. This would ultimately end their
season over something that could have been prevented if he was injured while at the
plate. Major league baseball teams do not want to lose a great pitcher over
something that could be avoided. Many people believe that this could be solved if the
Investure, Llc, and Smith College
UVA F 1537 INVESTURE, LLC, AND SMITH COLLEGE In January 2004, Alice
Handy s new investment advisory firm, Investure, LLC, was attempting to land its
first client, Smith College, an elite liberal arts college located in Northampton,
Massachusetts with a $913 million endowment. Handy, fresh from her previous
position as chief executive officer of the University of Virginia Investment
Management Company (UVIMCO), had 25 years of experience managing money
and a track record of success. Over her career, Handy had directed increasing
amounts of funds to a class of investments known as alternative assets, which
included a range of investments other than publicly traded stocks and bonds. She had
also developed a philosophy about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also found herself involved in fundraising efforts when donations to UVa s
capital campaign involved life trusts. During the 1990s, as state support of higher
education dwindled, endowment funds took on increasing importance for UVa and
other public universities. Handy s position was restructured to enable her to
dedicate more time to the investment side. The previously lowkey staff and
endowment both grew rapidly as Handy s team began conducting proprietary
research. Soon nearly a dozen investment professionals and five accounting and
administrative staff members were managing the endowment. In 2003, after 29
years with the university, Handy determined it was time for a change. In July of
that year, she announced her retirement as chief executive officer of UVIMCO,
leaving behind a healthy endowment and a strong record of performance. UVIMCO
s asset allocation had changed considerably during Handy s tenure, and the
endowment had enjoyed strong performance (Exhibits 1 and 2). UVa s endowment
had generated an average annual return of more than 13% since Handy s arrival and
it had grown to almost $2 billion in market value (Exhibit 3). Through her years of
service, Handy had developed an extensive list of contacts including business leaders,
asset managers, venture capitalists, and philanthropists.
The Quebec Separatist Movement Of Canada
At some point, countries will fight for freedom at their breaking point. For example,
during the mid 1900s, Canada did their own movement called the Quebec Separatist
Movement. The movement was about Quebec s independence from government. The
movement involved the citizens of Quebec and a group called Front de Liberation du
Quebec(FLQ). The Front de Liberation du Quebec had kidnapped people in Canada.
The Quebec Separatist Movement began due to Quebec s citizens ambition to
become independent and was finally resolved by making a new constitution.
The historical context of the Quebec Separatist movement included The Quiet
Revolution. The Quiet Revolution was when small groups try to make Quebec
independent especially FLQ. The small groups members were Francophones,
French speaking citizens. Their ideals was to make Quebec independent from
CanadaЕ› government. First, Canada made a bill stating that it will create a better
future for Canada. The Official Language Bill is a reflection of the nature of this
country as a whole and of a conscious choice we are making about our future.
(World History: The Modern Era) Canada thought it was necessary to have one
language, and it will make them feel united. After this bill was established, Canada s
government regretted and believed that there should be two official language. Yet
the citizens of Canada were still deciding if they wanted that law to pass. We believe
in two official languages and in a pluralist society, not
Military Leadership Development During The Military
Military Leadership Development
The military has many various levels of leadership. There is a ranking system in
the military is used to universally show the level in which an individual possesses
in the military. Level Education can also play a role in leadership in the military.
While enlisted ranks do not require a college education, that is the backbone of the
leadership in the military. When you first join the military, your rank will vary
between pay grades of E 1 to E 4. These are the introduction ranks of the military.
Each branch has their own title for each rank, for example, an E 1 in the army would
be referred to as a Private(PV1) while that same pay grade is referred to as Airman
(Airman basic) in the air force. The Ranks E 5 ... Show more content on

However, what you can expect are long hours of classes and physical labor. These
schools are made to break down the soldier and build them up so when the soldier is
placed in his next duty station he is ready to begin to take more initiative and earn
the respect of his/her subordinates. Once those schools are completed the soldiers
will begin the careers as NCOs but would not be the end of the learning. To move up
in the ranks even further, the soldier must continue to demonstrate great leadership
and selflessness. There will be more school needed to be able to move up which will
further their education in leadership.
The diverse types of NCO ranks have different responsibilities. A squad leader or
sometimes referred to section leader is normally running by E 5/E 6 ranks. As
stated in the ArmyStudyguied.com These NCOs live and work with their soldiers
every day and are responsible for their health, welfare and safety. These squads,
section and team leaders ensure that their soldiers meet standards in personal
appearance and teach them to maintain and account for their individual and unit
equipment and property. The NCO enforces standards and develops and trains
soldiers daily in MOS skills and unit missions. (FM 7 22.7, 2015). The next level is
the Platoon Sergeant. This individual is responsible for the care and training of all
his soldiers under him. This position is more of an administrative position because
they are responsible for
Polygyny in Africa Essay
Polygyny in Africa
Whereas numerous African creation myths are supportive of cultural practices such
as circumcision, there are very few, if any, creation myths that justify polygyny. There
are many proverbs about polygamy. However, proverbs do not have the same weight
as myths in explaining why certain things should be the way they are. African
creation myths suggest that monogyny was the original practice not only among
creator gods, but also among the original humans. The pursuit of immortality through
procreation is noble. Nevertheless, its achievement through polygyny discriminate
against women. So, polygyny is a sexist cultural practice that has no genuine
religious basis. It is a post original sin as well as a culturally and ... Show more

Of course, there are many proverbs about polygamy and co wives. But proverbs do
not have the same weight as myths. Indeed, the former are humans sayings, whereas
the latter are sacred literatures, so to speak. Numerous African creation myths
develop the idea that monogyny was the original practice among creator gods and
among the first human couples. After reading numerous creation myths, I have
identified five of them which substantiate this claim. These myths are representative
of five geographic areas of sub Saharan Africa, that is, the northern, southern, eastern,
western, and central Africa.
With the exception for The Plant of life, a Nyamwezi story, Tanzania, in which
Shida Matunda created all things as well as two women whom he took as wives,
virtually all married divinities were monogamists. Furthermore, in my research I
came across only one instance in which a God gave the original man, Moon, more
than a wife, Morningstar and Eveningstar; but Moon was given the second wife only
after God had called the first one to go and live in the sky. Consequently, I contend
that African religions are not the authentic foundation of polygyny, or the practice of
having more than one wife or female mate at one time. What is more, the pursuit of
personal immortality through procreation could possibly be a
Essay about Salome and Cupid
The paintings Salome with the Head of St. John the Baptist, by Guido Reni and
Cupid Chastised, by Bartolomeo Manfredi are both 17th century visual
representations of a story. The story behind Salome is the interesting biblical story of
the beheading of St. John the Baptist, as it s title suggests. The story goes that
Salome performed a dance for the king and his guests. Herod Antipassaw Salome s
dance and was so impressed, and drunk, that he promised to give her whatever she
asked of him. After consulting her mother, Salome asks Herod for the head of John
the Baptist. Herod delivered on his promise, and had the head of John the Baptist
delivered to her on a platter, as she asked. Reni s paintingdepicts a contented Salome

The cool green and grays that surrounds Salome can symbolize her cool, calm, staid
disposition, and almost blasГ© attitude in light of what is before her, the head of a
dead man. The two women in the back left of the plane are wearing more vibrant
colors but are muted by a shadow. Salome is the focal point of the piece, therefore
receiving more light and wearing brighter colors than the other figures in the painting.
She and the head of John the Baptist are the only figures that are not crossed by a
pronounced shadow, both are illuminated by the light that extends from the right of
the composition. This value construction puts emphasis on the two main characters,
the figures that hold the most narrative weight.
Goldish yellow, pink and white are the colors of Salome s dress. The yellow in
Salome s dress can be taken as a reflection of her confident and satisfied posture and
facial expression. Pink can symbolize femininity or sexuality, a major factor behind
the events of the story. For it was Salome s display of these qualities, in her dance,
that moved Herod so much as to grant her any request. These vibrant colors also
provide contrast to the cool background, with pink (a tint or red) serving as a contrast
to green, further emphasizing the protagonist woman and relating to the viewer her
significance in the story behind the depiction. Similarly, in Cupid Chastised vibrant
foreground colors contrast a neutral background. Mars fiery red garment stands

  • 2. Why I Don t Hate The Drug Essay I sat in a lawn chair besides my boyfriend of four months as I watched his one of his new pledge members take the first hit. He took the bowl that was shaped like a fish to his lips and light the crumbed up herb. Breathing it in for a few seconds he blew smoke out of his mouth. The room filled with the smell of past memories that made me lightly cringe. I watch the smoke vaporize in the air until it was nothing. The fish bowl circled around for person to person each mimicking the person besides them actions. I held my breath as it landed on my boyfriend watching his every move to see what he would decide to do. The smell of marijuana was honestly smells worse to me than dog shit because all the haunting memories I have with the drug. Now I don t hate the drug. I m not that person who hates people who smoke either. Yet I know after my last relationship I didn t want to date someone who smoke. My last boyfriend was a very good example of a complete definition of someone who s an addict. Whenever something went wrong. He smoked. Whenever something went right. He smoked. Whenever he woke up. He smoked. If he couldn t fall asleep. You guessed it he smoked. I could make a list the goes on for fifty pages of the reason why he smoked marijuana yet it wouldn t do me any good.. Because of his addiction I hated the drug. It would cause every single one of our fights. I remember one especially and it was when we celebrating dating for six months. We had been watching Dexter
  • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Gene Therapy The beauty of the human race is the complexity in which our bodies present themselves in comparison to other organisms that live on Earth. Evolution has taken its sweet time to produce the alpha organisms we have become today, and at the pinnacle of human evolution is our DNA: a unique, intricate, and complex representation of millions of years of evolutionary mutations. The number one cause of genetic diversity is mutations; mutations occur randomly and can produce beneficial or harmful nucleotide sequences. Nucleotide sequences code for the production of proteins that perform the majority of roles in our bodies. When harmful mutations halt protein production or cause malicious protein production, the body can be effected in numerous ways. The majority of disorders expressed by humans across the globe are genetic, meaning that the DNAof the individual with the genetic disorder contains errors or mutations that cause the subsequent symptoms to occur. Gene therapy is a field of study that focuses on the correction of mutations in DNA sequences. The ultimate goal of Gene Therapy is to prevent the inheritance of mutations that cause genetic disorders. In the medical community this is called Germ line Gene Therapy. While this is the least ventured area of gene therapy, its has been proven to be the most promising in reference to advancing medicine to new heights when the ethical situation changes. The second goal of Gene Therapy is to cure the patients with the genetic

The novel Esperanza Rising by Pam MuГ±oz Ryan has many symbols that contribute to the theme, but one of the major motifs present is the process of crocheting the quilt. This symbol lasts throughout the entire book, but the message only gets stronger for this symbol goes hand in hand with the storyline. Esperanza is an only child in her family, and during this time it was not acceptable for women to own land. When Esperanza s papa gets killed there were no other men in the family, so the land that Esperanza had grown up on and loved would soon all be taken away. Unless her mama sacrificers herself and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The crochet technique of making mountains and valleys applies greatly to everything that Esperanza goes through on her migration to California. This symbol is both in a literal and a figurative sense. Esperanza literally starts at the top in Mexico. She lives on acres of land in a beautiful vineyard, she has servants, and is well educated. But when trouble arrives, Esperanza must go to the bottom of the valley in California. Here she has nothing; she lives in a small house in an immigrant farm, she works hard every day, and she does not know any English. Life as she knew it had completely changed. Migrating to a new place that is unknown, everyone is new, and the language is not known is a grueling change and as a young child this must have been very difficult for Esperanza to handle. In Esperanza s eyes every step she takes just brings her lower and lower into the valley. Nothing seems to be going right, it is almost as if the figurative mountain Esperanza must climb keeps growing taller. In Esperanza s eyes she was taken from her perfect world and placed into a world where she could no longer feel the heart beat of the earth (MuГ±oz Ryan 92). This was detrimental to her, for she had no idea what to do next; she had given up. Esperanza finally began to understand her new life, but as soon as mama became ill, Esperanza s world shattered all around her again. She no longer had papa, abuelita, or mama by her side. She was all alone and it was up to her to climb up the

In 1787 Wordsworth was enrolled at St. Johs College, Cambridge as a scholarship student, but because he was un interested in the curriculum, he decided to depend on self reading. During his twenty s years of central events have took place in Wordsworth life, receiving money from a friend that enabled him to process a house, and the establishment of collaboration with Smauel coleride that led to the publication of a volume of poems and ballads. • 8. Hopi Indian Perspectives The Hopi peoples continue to thrive and preserve their culture for as long as humans have been known to inhabit this Earth. As Jake and Susanne Page maintain, they are not only the oldest dwellers in this land but are considered by most other Native Americans to have a wisdom, a knowledge of things, beyond average comprehension (1994:19). This wisdom comes from a deep connection to all things natural and of this Earth. The Hopis have always relied on nature to guide them spiritually, philosophically, as well as physically. The Hopis understand that through their hard work, dedication, and faith they are preparing for the future of their people. Another important part of the Hopi culture, is the idea that time is circular and ongoing. Hopis emerged from the spirit world to take on their role in life as part of nature. They believe that their connection with the land, animals, and spirits is a part of their Hopivotskowani. Therefore, they respect the natural and cyclical tendency of life. Just as the seasons of the year bring life and death to many plants and animals, the Hopi people accept life and death as part of the human existence. While alive, a Hopi must do his/her part to learn about the culture and how to do things the Hopi way , in order to prepare one s self for the spirit world. (Ferrero 1983) Then, as one enters the spiritual world, his/her spirit becomes a force of life giving nature and serves as a guide for young Hopis. The circular motion of time allows the Hopis to accept occurrences as part of a larger plan than one can see for one s self. The Hopi people are extremely passionate about their cultural

This is that the detective seems to be an amateur and someone who doesn t like the Formal Police Service. Take Dupin for example. He said this about the Parisian Police: The Parisian Police, so much extolled for acumen, are cunning, but no more. This gives the reader the impression that Dupin doesn t like the Police and that Dupin thinks a lot of himself. This is also apparent with Holmes. There was a case in The Speckled Band when Holmes criticised the Police because they did not search the room thoroughly. He said: We will have to search the room with care to see what the Police have missed out. This clearly gives the reader the impression that Sherlock does not like the Police. The detectives also seem to be in a world of their own and often seem to have highly individual personalities. We can see that Dupin waffles quite a lot, when he speaks. Lets look at when he starts to talk about the people who have heard the voice. He starts by saying: That was the evidence itself . . . . and talks like this for the next four paragraphs. This tells me that, at times. Dupin can talk a load of nonsense and he can be quite tedious. We can also see the detective s different

The Trial Of Galileo Galilei For most people of the modern age, a clear distinction exists between the truth as professed by religious belief, and the truth as professed by scientific observation. While there are many people who are able to hold scientific as well as religious views, they tend to hold one or the other as being supreme. Therefore, a religious person may ascribe themselves to certain scientific theories, but they will always fall back on their religious teachings when they seek the ultimate truth, and vice versa for a person with a strong trust in the sciences. For most of the early history of humans, religionand science mingled freely with one another, and at times even lent evidence to support each other as being true. However, this all changed... However, Galileo could not easily be written off as a rambling, heretical madman either, seeing as his theories were first proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus, who was not only a Catholic, but a priest and a canon. Essay On The Aeneid Juan Felipe Salazar Professor Ryals HUM Greek/Roman 2220 Due Date: Dec 11, 2015 Analyzing History in The Aeneid The Aeneid, written by Virgil, is an epic poem following Aeneas journey finding the prophesied new city. The Aeneid has dependably been viewed as one of the top scholarly works ever made because of the alluding references to Virgil s history. In this epic poem, there are mentions from Virgil s historical context, like the progress of Augustusrise to power and the tragedies of the Late Republic s civil wars. Virgil lived through the first age of the Roman Empire, amid the rule of the sovereign Octavian, later known as Augustus. Civil war came up between Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus. Octavian and Antony were the only ones remaining by 36 B.C.; they eventually began warring against each other. • 17. A Just Man Should Fear No Death in the Apology by Plato Essay Plato s Apology The Apology was written by Plato, and relates Socrates defense at his trial on charges of corrupting the youth and impiety. Socrates argues that he is innocent of both charges. His defense is ultimately unsuccessful, and he is convicted and sentenced to death. Socrates concludes the Apology by arguing that a just man should have no fear of death. Socrates defends himself against the charges brought against him by his prosecutor Meletus in two ways. One way consists of a description of Socrates motivation and method, which he hopes will explain to the jury why some people, including his prosecutors, dislike him. The second defense consists of Socrates responding directly to the two charges brought against him: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He points out that he has never received pay for his services, and presents his poverty as proof of his service to the god (p. 30). Finally, Socrates claims that the god has given him a divine sign which warns him when he is about to do something wrong. It is this sign, he says, that has prevented him from leading a public life of politics. Socrates responds to the charge that he is guilty of corrupting the youth, in two ways. The first way (p. 28) attempts to show that Meletus charge is frivolous on the grounds that it does not conform to plausible examples of how creatures become corrupted. Under questioning from Socrates, Meletus grants that all of the citizens of Athens except Socrates benefit the youth of Athens; Socrates alone corrupts them. Yet this is implausible, Socrates implies, for in other cases of corruption, such as the corruption of horses by bad owners, the contrary is the case, with only one or a few individuals benefiting them, and most people corrupting them. Socrates second argument against the charge of corrupting the youth presents a dilemma. Although Meletus asserts that Socrates corrupts the youth deliberately, Socrates vehemently denies this (p. 29). Assuming that the alleged corruption is not deliberate, Socrates then presents Meletus with two possibilities: Either I do not corrupt the young or,

In the comic book Batman: The Killing Joke especially in the scene presented in the stimulus above a lot of attention is paid to Joker s lunacy. In this book, he is portrayed not as a complete and indisputable madman but rather as a character banding the borderline between sanity and madness. Such a situation evokes questions about the nature of madness and its understanding in our world. From the philosophical perspective, this topic has been raised by numerous philosophers; among whom Michel Foucault, in the book Madness and Civilization: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason, is the most famous for his critique of the post Enlightenment attitude... Such an interpretation of madness is astonishingly similar to the one presented by Plato in Phaedrus. In this dialogue, Plato discusses the relationship between madness, divinity, and love (eros). What is formed by a combination of madness and love is a passion which is characterised as human madness. On the opposing side, there is divine madness which Plato directly regards as a gift from the god. Among this category, four different subtypes of madness are distinguished and one of them can be read as a perfect justification of Joker s mental

  • 41. Analysis Of The Poem The Old Testament One of the most interesting details of this picture is its shape. Most pieces that we see are rectangular or square. This piece is circular. Not only that, but there are also words around the border of the scene. After my first look at this picture, I think that there is a strong feminist undertone here. A woman is the main focal point, and not only that but she is also about to kill a man. She is exuding power. This scene is reminiscent of a biblical story in the Old Testamentwhere a woman drives a stake through a man s head during wartime. Descriptive Analysis One of the first elements of this piece was the contrast. The piece was done in black and white so there are mainly just highlights and shadows. Highlighted the most is what I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So here we have a woman who has all the power in this situation. She is holding a hammer to the head of this man who we can see is very strong, and he cannot stop her. To create the contrast in this scene, the artist relied heavily on the use of lines. There is a boundary line that encompasses the entire picture. The fact that the boundary line of this piece is in a circle makes the scene feels as if it holds some sort of significance. There is a type of painting the tondo where the artist creates his /her piece with a circular boundary line. This style of art was very popular in Italy during the Renaissance and was usually used to convey religious ideas. This evidence would support the idea that this scene depicts a biblical story from the Old Testament. The artist also uses the method of hatching and cross hatching to give a sense of depth. The use of hatching is very heavily defined on the curtains around the backside of the tent. Cross hatching is used to define a shadow on the left side of the curtain. This effect makes it feel as though this area of the tent is farther away from the viewer s vantage point. The artist also uses hatching on the two main subjects to define their bodies even under their clothes. This method helps the artist contribute to the effect of contrast. Areas where there is little to no hatching seem lighter and thus closer to the viewer. There

If not all, many jeopardize their homeland lives due to political issues, provide for their families or evading potential death. The US should understand the reason why immigrants aren t granted citizenship as often, ways immigrant children are treated, and the extensive wait to become a citizen. The US is among the countries where the immigrants have the hardest time in becoming the citizens. Since the beginning of the year 2000, immigrants have been encountering a complicated process of the US citizenship and a permanent residency. Terrorism has often affected the country over the years, making the government extra careful when accepting and registering individuals for the US citizenship. Establishment of permanent residency in the US is almost impossible, especially when a person is coming to the US on grounds other than through an approved job or through their families who are the citizens of the U.S. Therefore; the immigrants are not usually granted the citizenship in the US so often (Motomura, 16). People Kulhahay 2 who follow these routes of the special citizenship qualifications may not know how difficult or impossible it could be to become a citizen and acquire the residency in the United States (Coutin 33).

That is the question that is being asked around major league baseball by fans, owners, managers, and the players. If a team is playing in an American league ball park both teams must use a designated hitter in place of the pitcher. If a team is playing in a National leagueball park both teams pitchers must hit instead of having a designated hitter. This is set to give each league an advantage when playing in interleague games because National league teams normally carry an extra pitcher while American league teams normally carry an extra hitter. However, injury concerns, numbers, and entertainment factors play a huge part in the designated hitter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An injury like this is more of a freak accident rather than an injury that could be prevented. A line drive up the middle that hits the pitcher may look bad, but in most cases they usually only miss a few starts. Generally it is concussions which there are proper protocols for concussion related incidents. This year two National league pitchers have been injured while hit. That may not necessarily seem like a high number, but it is when it is related to pitchers. Adam Wainwright is the ace of the St. Louis Cardinals and this year he had a season ending injury while he was leaving the box to run to first. In this example, the cardinals lost their ace for the year. Teams do not want to see their ace or any pitchers go down because it could affect their playoff aspirations. Even though Wainwright went down the cardinals are currently in first place of their division. They even have two pitchers with 10 wins or more, but it does not always happen like that. Take the Chicago Cubs for example who are currently in the race to be in position to contend for a wild card spot. Jon Lester is their best pitcher on their staff. This would ultimately end their season over something that could have been prevented if he was injured while at the plate. Major league baseball teams do not want to lose a great pitcher over something that could be avoided. Many people believe that this could be solved if the

Handy s position was restructured to enable her to dedicate more time to the investment side. The previously lowkey staff and endowment both grew rapidly as Handy s team began conducting proprietary research. Soon nearly a dozen investment professionals and five accounting and administrative staff members were managing the endowment. In July of that year, she announced her retirement as chief executive officer of UVIMCO, leaving behind a healthy endowment and a strong record of performance. UVIMCO s asset allocation had changed considerably during Handy s tenure, and the endowment had enjoyed strong performance (Exhibits 1 and 2). For example, during the mid 1900s, Canada did their own movement called the Quebec Separatist Movement. The movement was about Quebec s independence from government. The movement involved the citizens of Quebec and a group called Front de Liberation du Quebec(FLQ). The Front de Liberation du Quebec had kidnapped people in Canada. The Quebec Separatist Movement began due to Quebec s citizens ambition to become independent and was finally resolved by making a new constitution. The historical context of the Quebec Separatist movement included The Quiet Revolution. The Quiet Revolution was when small groups try to make Quebec independent especially FLQ. There are many proverbs about polygamy. However, proverbs do not have the same weight as myths in explaining why certain things should be the way they are. African creation myths suggest that monogyny was the original practice not only among creator gods, but also among the original humans. The pursuit of immortality through procreation is noble. But proverbs do not have the same weight as myths. Indeed, the former are humans sayings, whereas the latter are sacred literatures, so to speak. Numerous African creation myths develop the idea that monogyny was the original practice among creator gods and among the first human couples. After reading numerous creation myths, I have identified five of them which substantiate this claim. These myths are representative of five geographic areas of sub Saharan Africa, that is, the northern, southern, eastern, western, and central Africa. With the exception for The Plant of life, a Nyamwezi story, Tanzania, in which Shida Matunda created all things as well as two women whom he took as wives, virtually all married divinities were monogamists. Furthermore, in my research I came across only one instance in which a God gave the original man, Moon, more than a wife, Morningstar and Eveningstar; but Moon was given the second wife only after God had called the first one to go and live in the sky. Consequently, I contend that African religions are not the authentic foundation of polygyny, or the practice of having more than one wife or female mate at one time. What is more, the pursuit of personal immortality through procreation could possibly be a
  • 52. Essay about Salome and Cupid The paintings Salome with the Head of St. John the Baptist, by Guido Reni and Cupid Chastised, by Bartolomeo Manfredi are both 17th century visual representations of a story. The story behind Salome is the interesting biblical story of the beheading of St. John the Baptist, as it s title suggests. The story goes that Salome performed a dance for the king and his guests. Herod Antipassaw Salome s dance and was so impressed, and drunk, that he promised to give her whatever she asked of him. After consulting her mother, Salome asks Herod for the head of John the Baptist. Herod delivered on his promise, and had the head of John the Baptist delivered to her on a platter, as she asked. The cool green and grays that surrounds Salome can symbolize her cool, calm, staid disposition, and almost blasГ© attitude in light of what is before her, the head of a dead man. The two women in the back left of the plane are wearing more vibrant colors but are muted by a shadow. Salome is the focal point of the piece, therefore receiving more light and wearing brighter colors than the other figures in the painting. She and the head of John the Baptist are the only figures that are not crossed by a pronounced shadow, both are illuminated by the light that extends from the right of the composition. This value construction puts emphasis on the two main characters, the figures that hold the most narrative weight. Goldish yellow, pink and white are the colors of Salome s dress. The yellow in Salome s dress can be taken as a reflection of her confident and satisfied posture and facial expression. Pink can symbolize femininity or sexuality, a major factor behind the events of the story. For it was Salome s display of these qualities, in her dance, that moved Herod so much as to grant her any request. These vibrant colors also provide contrast to the cool background, with pink (a tint or red) serving as a contrast to green, further emphasizing the protagonist woman and relating to the viewer her significance in the story behind the depiction. Similarly, in Cupid Chastised vibrant foreground colors contrast a neutral background. Mars fiery red garment stands
