Ineffective Strengthening Programs: As I wrote in the intro, ineffective strengthening programs are
too common in the world of swimming. Moreover, poor exercise execution is as common as
kickboards on deck. When performing shoulder strengthening you should feel it in the shoulders,
not the low back, or any other area! Also, we know eccentric muscular contractions create more
force, so why are swimmers rushing through this phase during rotator cuff movements? Ensure
slowness during any rotator cuff exercise for reducing swimming shoulder pain.
4. Neglecting the Role of the Rotator Cuff Muscle: One primary role of the rotator cuff is
stabilization of the humuerus (upper shoulder bone) into the glenoid (the shoulder blade). If these
muscles are fatigued or not strong in this role, excessive motion occurs at the joint, increasing the
stress at the joint. Make sure to strengthen your rotator cuff with stabilization exercises.
5. Roator Cuff Damage Will Occur in Swimming: This may sound confusing, but rotator cuff
damage will occur if you are an elite swimmer. Millions and millions of strokes increase shoulder
stress and create damage at these muscles. If you are a competitive swimmer, this happens. To my

Analysis Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde By Robert Lewis Stevenson
As the cities in the nineteenth century grew and expanded, more and more people moved from
the countryside to said cities. With an increase in the size and population of the city a individual s
anonymity increased as well. Both the Paris Morgue and the novella Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
written by Robert Lewis Stevenson portray the anonymity of modern city life. While middle class
men often appreciated the anonymity of the city, because it allowed them to escape social class
restrictions, they also feared some of the negative implications. The working class, on the other
hand, might have enjoyed the new found entertainment options, however they also had to fear
being victims of crime and ending as nameless corpses. Women, both from the middle class and
working class, experienced more freedom through the entertainment and leisure time options
available due to the anonymous character of the city. For the middle class man the anonymity of
the city promised freedom from social restrictions, that hindered him from behaving in ways that
were unseeming for a man of his standing. In his novella Stevenson writes about a wealthy
middle class doctor, Dr. Henry Jekyll, who through a potion, could turn himself into a different
person. This second personality of his being called Edward Hyde. Mr. Hyde represents the more
sinister and evil part of Jekyll s personality, which had been split after he first took his potion.
Before making his potion Jekyll often had desires that were not

Great Depression Relief
The Great Depression and the Progress to Relief The Great Depression has been marked as one
of the darkest periods faced by the world after the Total War, WWI. Many in the U.S. can recall
the good times felt in the 1920 s. Money could be made and credit was the norm, much the same,

City Symphony Orchestra
Case: City Symphony Orchestra
The City Symphony Orchestra is a branch of the Center for Performing Arts. It performs regular
concerts throughout the year and has been reasonably profitable in the past. However, in recent
years, concert attendance has been declining and the Orchestra is looking for ways to boost
attendance.
The traditional customers of the Orchestra have been the older and more affluent segment of the
population that live in the suburbs. The recent boom in the high tech sector, however, has created
an affluent population that is younger and has different musical tastes. This younger affluent group
prefers to live in the city rather than commute from the suburbs. Older people concerned about

The Existence of Racism Essay
The Existence of Racism
Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems,
but has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a
myth, it has become increasingly difficult to define (de Benoist, 1999, p. 11). Although the term
wasn t officially featured in the Larousse Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud
hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de Benoist, 1999). Before delving into the complex
concept of racism, it is recommended that the student who is writing on this topic first consider the
notion of race, which has been described as a group of people with the same physical ... Show more

296). There is also the notion of genetic inheritance, which subjectively implies that some groups
are superior to others (Vorster, 1999). This argument is rooted in belief that some groups sport a
more impressive biological pedigree than others and are therefore better than other groups from
the moment of birth. Finally, there is the idea that suggests that group diversity is forged through
social behavior (Vorster, 1999). In other words, some groups simply have greater physical or
intellectual capacities than others, which allow them to be easily categorized on the basis of
superiority and inferiority (Vorster, 1999). Interestingly, these ideas seem to transcend all cultural
barriers, which is why racism is prevalent in both primitive as well as civilized societies.
There are three major factors which need to be considered in order to provide a sufficient
overview of racism that lends itself to further, more detailed analysis. First, there is the ideology
mentioned earlier, the significance of which cannot be underestimated (Vorster, 2002). In fact, back
in 1978, UNESCO [United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization] issued a
Declaration of Race, which defined racism as,

Technology And Its Effect On Technology
Are we becoming way too dependent on technology and allowing it to take over our lives? The
majority of people own at least one or more of these devices: a computer, laptop, tablet, or a cell
phone. So many people seem unable to function through their daily routine without having access to
some form of technologydevice. I m willing to bet that you have at least two of these devices in
your home, too. Now, stop and think about how often we use technology devices throughout the
day. As a result of the growing need for technological devices, we have become dependent on
technology in the work place and school, for social media, and simple daily functions that we
should be able to manage on our own. In the majority of businesses and many educational
facilities, the use of technology devices has become a part of the regular equipment needed to be
able to function throughout the day. Many businesses have gone paperless and depend solely on
computers for all their record keeping, schedules, payroll, and various other files; but what
happens when the lights go off and the day must go on? Very few businesses still keep printed
hardcopies for daily use. We have placed ourselves in a situation where in some cases the only
decision is to cancel upcoming events, appointments, or other scheduled activities for the day
because our devices are not functioning. Numerous educational facilities are headed in the same
direction, requiring use of computers and tablets as part of the daily

Public Art Essay
Public Art Any drawn line that speaks about identity, dignity, and unity is art, (Chaz Bojorquey)
is a statement that I agree with. Art is perceived differently from all people based on their
culture, religion, personal taste, and many other factors. I believe that as long as what has been
created is meaningful to either the creator or even to somebody that is viewing it, it should be
considered art. Art in the public is a very controversial subject that brings up the important
question of, Should public art be considered as real art, personally I think that it should be. I
believe that the difference between art that is placed in a gallery and art that is visible by a
community is the fact that what is acceptable in a gallery... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another possibly positive outcome of art in the public could be the affect that it may have on
the younger generations. If children are being raised in a community where they can see art on
a daily basis then I believe it will have a positive effect on their lives by allowing them to learn
how to appreciate art and what it has to offer. Art being in the public is also a way to grant
people, who do not have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of
seeing something aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. It also makes a town more
interesting to visit; no one wants to visit a town with not much excitement. I once went to an art
festival in Baltimore, Maryland, where they had green marbles ground up and put into the black
top roads. This sight alone made my heart race and made this town more exciting. For towns that
may have tourism it could be a way to attract to coming there or maybe even staying. Art can also
be a controversial at the same time. There are many people who express their idea of art in a
way that, in my opinion, should not be seen by the public. For example, many people consider
paintings of naked women to be art, as do I, but I do not think it is appropriate for a painting of
that nature to become a piece of public art. Another example is people who use profanity in their
art. Swearing is not appropriate for a child to see painted on the side of their neighborhood
buildings. The thing

Ministry Interview Report
Following and understanding the journeys of the ministers before us is significant in the light of
our own ministry. Each person should look up to a minister in their lives and understand their
methods along with their past and current positions. An interview is one of the best ways to
discover these. The person I interviewed has been my pastorand guide since I was born. He has
pastored at Community Baptist Church, the church I attend, my whole life. He has taught me most
of the things I knew concerning God previous to attending Barclay College. He baptized me when
I decided to accept Jesusas my savior at seventeen years old and helped keep me with Christ
throughout the years. This man s name is Richard Bishop, informally known as Pastor Rick. I
inquired of him the answers to four questions; How long have you been a pastor, and is
Community Baptist Church the only one you ve pastored? , What do you consider to be your
philosophy in ministry? , What type of educationdid you receive in order to become a pastor? , and,

evangelism, discipleship, and ministry while helping lead students to Christ. Eventually, he felt a

The Red Black by Stendhal

though it was much more subtle. It was my first semester and second class of the day. Before
class started, we were having polite conversation about SAT scores and GPAs. I said mine and a
guy behind me said, There s no way that black girl scored higher than any of us on the SAT. She
s only here because of affirmative action, taking the place of people who actually deserve to be
here. I knew then that my presence was tolerated but not accepted. I was shell shocked then and
now. Even coming from south Georgia, I d still never directly experienced any intolerance or
hatred. Yet here it was and is still at my higher education institution of choice. Background The
University of Georgia was incorporated on January 27, 1785. The university was actually

Everything You Need to Know about Stars
A star is a sparkling bundle of gas bound by gravity into a solitary object and is fueled by atomic
combination at the center. There are trillions of stars in our universe and all are distinctive and
extraordinary. Their mass, color, shape makes them all distinctive but mass is the only thing that
makes them unique. There are numerous phases of stars life including main sequencestars, red
giants, white dwarfs, neutron stars, and dark holes. All stars additionally have a lot of varieties in
each one phase of life. The life of a starstarts in a cloud, an incredible gathering of gas and dust.
When enough mass has aggregated into a solitary item, gravity compels the mass to crumple into
the middle. Because of weight and rubbing, the center gets so hot that it starts atomic combination
and a protostar is made.
HR Diagram
The age and the mass of stars enlighten everything concerning a stars physical properties and
situation into each of the classifications. The Hertzsprung Russell chart (HR Diagram) diagrams
stars glows over the stars phantom class. Radiance portrays how splendid the star is (I, II, III, IV,
V); ghastly class depicts its temperature (O, B, A, F, G, K, M). This chart is the most ideal
approach to classify stars.
Protostar
A protostar is structured in the beginnings of a star. The protostar s gravity is answerable for
making stars thick. As the gravity of the protostar builds so does the compression of mass. As the
thickness expanded so does the temperature. In

Past Influences that Marked Brazils Contemporary Society
This paper analyzes aspects of Brazil s colonial history that has influenced contemporary societies. It
also describes and critiques measures that have recently been implemented by the Brazilian
government in attempt to curb the further deterioration of society.
In Brazil s society, neoliberal and capitalist beliefs within the social structure have hindered
democratic politics. Diverse social groups are unable to come together and exert their political
power as a united front, instead, the neoliberal belief of market power replacing citizenship power
stratified the population based on capital. What all people of Brazil have in common is their
citizenship and under the constitution, each citizen is entitled to equal access in the political
realm. Brazil attempts to achieve this by requiring everyone to cast an opinion in the form of a
vote. Citizenship has provided common ground and an articulatory principle for an immense
diversity of social movements that have adopted the language of right as a way of expressing
their demands and because of this, citizenship is a crucial weapon not only in the struggle against
social and economic exclusion and disparity but also in the broadening of dominant conceptions of
politics. [1] This paper will argue that the economic and social inequalities faced by many inferior
populations in Brazil are an effect of the neoliberal concept of citizenship. By the neoliberal concept
of citizenship it is meant that citizenship began to be

Frederick Engels Impact on the Conditions of Laborers...
Life can at times seem bad, even in the lives of some of the most prestigious, rich, popular people
in the world. Bad hair, lack of sleep, abundance of homework, and an absence of money have the
tendency to put a damper on some people s days, among other things. Too many times, though, in
today s society things are taken for granted. Imagine not having a place to sleep, having no means
of education, or having all hard earned funds taken by the government, not even leaving enough to
feed the family. This is how it was for Englanders in the 1800s. The condition of the working class

Pros And Cons Of Overcoming Fear In Pirate Latitudes
In Pirate Latitudes a major theme is overcoming fear. There are many advantages that come with
overcoming fear in this story. For example, they got the galleon. Their mission was to get the
galleon, and thy succeeded by over coming fear. Also, they defeated the Kraken and Spanish
warships. They were the crew s enemies. They also gained trust in each other throughout the story
by over coming fear. They gained the trust from going through these obstacles together. The
author shows us the rewards that you get when you overcome your fear. But also there are some
disadvantages to overcoming your fear. For example, the lost crew members on their expedition.
The crew also lost a ship at sea. This is very sad to lose people that you are close with.

Pros And Cons Of Owning A Gun
Ethical Side
Freedom:
The main ethical debate is that gun ownership revolves around the freedom to bear arms. In the
second amendment from the Bill of Rights, the founding fathers wrote that A well regulated
militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear
arms, shall not be infringed. This gives anyone (as long as they are not a convicted criminal) the
unalienable right to possess a firearm. In a democracy, we should not have to justify owning a gun.
If we need one for protection, hunting, or just because I have an interest in collecting firearms. It is
really none of the governments concern on why we have them unless someone plans on using them
the wrong way. Anyway, there are people who think that the government should ban something
because of some people who abuse it. Why not ban alcohol? Or cigarettes? Or even cars? All of
those have caused more causalities than gun ownership.
Protection:
Criminals exist, so I must protect myself. End of the discussion. Education services, mental
health evaluators, and even our law enforcement can t stop all violence because neither
enforcement nor prevention will work one hundred percent. That s why we have to take it on
ourselves to protect ourselves and the ones we love. We need more law abiding citizens. We could
possibly have less mass shootings, if the average properly trained citizen would provide such a
defense to thwart the attacker. The idea of more guns to protect

The Family Law Act 1975 ( Cth )
The Family Court is a superior court which was first established in 1975 under the Family Law
Act 1975 (Cth). This Act, as amended by the Family Law Reform Act 1995 (Cth) and the Family
Law Amendment (Shared Parental Responsibility) Act 2006 (Cth), states that all children have a
right to know, be cared for, and have regular contactwith both parents and other significant people.
This is of course if it would be contrary to the child s best interests.
The Family Court ensures that each case and judgement concerning marriage/relationship
breakdowns involving children is treated equally with emphasis on the child and its best interests.
At times mutual agreement on the shared parental responsibility (the underlying principle of the law

The additional considerations are very broad and include a large variety. In many circumstances,
and depending on the situation of each individual case, what the court believes to be relevant will
also be taken into account. Some main ones include:
пѓ the views of the child (depending on age)
пѓ each parent s ability/ willingness to encourage a close and continuing relationship between the
child and the other parent
пѓ the possible effect of change on the child
пѓ the nature of the relationship between the child and each parent
пѓ any family violence/family violence order that applies to the child or their family
International laws often play a large role in the development of laws and legislation of the
Australia Legal System. An example of this is the United Nation s Convention of the Rights of the
Child, otherwise known as CROC . This has been endorsed by Australian Family Law and has
become the basis to which the best interests of the child were formed.
In the case of Bruce and Douglas [2014] FamCA80, proceedings relate to parenting arrangements
for the child L Douglas, between the applicant Ms Bruce, who is the child s mother, and the
respondent Mr Douglas, who is the child s father. The child, aged two and a half years at the time
of the hearing, has lived with her mother since her birth in April 2011, and has spent very limited
time with her father. The mother seeks orders that the child

My First Class Luc Elbowed Keen On The Side
Walking toward their first class Luc elbowed Keen in the side. Look, Shaylin is waiting for you.
Keen told the others, Go on ahead, I ll meet up with you in class , and he walked toward Shaylin
with a determined stride. Hi, we need to talk. Keen could perceive that although she was smiling
she was not happy. Yes, we should talk, but not here. Keen took her hand and lead her around
the corner behind the buildings. Keen turned to face Shaylin, I must understand how you
perceive me. Shaylin s voice was soft as she replied. Does it truly matter? My Father told me that
with your Father being the leader he has the ability to comprehend if we are Vampire and

so confusing, I feel both security and elation in my blood; however I don t feel my heart skip a

Internet plays a huge paper in the news and communication field, due to the fast, free easy and
accessible way for everybody to look for the last news.
Because of the increase in the use of the Internet, this information media has become one of the
most used information channels over the world. Like everything it has some pros and cons:
On the one hand, if we are in the point of view of the newspaper, we save more because we do not
use any kind of paper neither ink, nor machinery so our costs are minimum. Another good fact, that
has online newspapers, is that you can read the breaking news at the moments that are posted,
without waiting until the next day.
But for people the most important one is that the newspapers are usually free in the
Internet that is why there are more online readers day by day.
Whereas, on the other hand, even though there are not so many bad things we find two of them
that are the most important. The first one is that as online newspapers are free for the readers the
company that manages the newspaper does not win as much as it should before, so the need
more publicity. The other one is that as we said before most of them are free but there are also
some those if you want to read the newspaper you have to subscribe to it.

Coastal Adaptation Research
The association of length of residency with attitudes toward publicly provided community wide
services has long been documented in the literature outside of economics (Kelsy 1998; Spain 1993).
Within economics _and despite the ubiquitous studies in the valuation literature that address
preference heterogeneity as it relates to measures of socioeconomic status (e.g. age, gender,
education and income) _ research that considers duration of residency as a potential source of
preferenceheterogeneity is relatively rare. Among the few available studies are Cho et al, (2005;
2008) and Johnston et al. (2003) whose findings suggest that welfare for land conservation
attributes is significantly different depending on length of residency. That is, willingness... Show

The first approach uses years of residency in the town as a continuous predictor. The second
approach categorizes this continuous predictor and create indictors to allow for discrete shifts
in preference. Categorization of the continuous variable in our case is not arbitrary, rather it
distinguishes those who had not been Old Saybrook residents before the past four year (prior to
the survey implementation). This period (between 2010 and 2014) has bracketed three flooding
related events that had enjoyed media coverage (Nor easter, Irene and Sandy). In addition to the
subjective measure of years of residency, we estimate the model with an objective measure of
years of residency obtained (for most of the targeted subjects in the survey sample) using
Interactive Online 2013 Flood Maps for the town of Old Saybrook. Years of residency is inferred
using the date of the property ownership, which is derived from the Property Record Card for each

Comparing The Characters In Ray Bradbury s The Paterson...
In Ray Bradbury s fictional novel about the horrifying future, he discusses topics that, politically
and socially, can relate to Judith Ortiz Cofer s short story; The Paterson Public Library. These two
pertain to each other because both Bradbury s and Cofer s characters are afraid of situations that
involve books. Though they do compare in many ways, there are also differences between the
stories.
Cofer says that every trip to the library would be a dangerous one because of the black girl
Lorraine. It took me through enemy territory, says Cofer. Bradbury s character Montag was
afraid of being seen with books because they were illegal and he was afraid that he would be
burned for having them. In a similar manner, Cofer was afraid of being in a situation on her way
to get her books. She was afraid that the older bully would hurt her.
Montag is more hostile when he takes action in Bradbury s novel. Cofer does not take action, she is
a tutor for her bully and she cannot get through to the bully. Bradbury s bully, it turns out, is one of
Montag s friends. Beatty is a friend of Montag in the beginning of Bradbury s novel, later in the
story, though; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cofer preserves her intelligence and gains intelligence through the use of books. This could
show students that books are a great way to acquire knowledge instead of just school. Bradbury
hints at the way we used books in our society and abuse them today. We do not appreciate the
way that they are mistreated and basically left to rot in the unused libraries. Since we treat books
very wrong and don t use them to gain knowledge and explore the depths of our imagination,

Essay on Cat People versus Dog People
I know the biggest discussion when you are about to get a new pet is; am I a cat person or dog
person? I m about to solve your confusion. 62% of United States homes have at least one pet.
Overall, homes that claim to have pets 78 million of them are dogs and 86 million are cats. These
numbers are misleading, according to a survey in the Reader s Digest 41% identified that they were
catpeople where as 74% were dog people (Reader s Digest). My sister is a major dog person she can
t live without them some days. Her latest addition to the family is a Vizsla puppy named toby.

More facts about cat people are that they are more likely to live in an apartment, as well as to live
alone with the exception of cats (Reader s Digest). However, that does not mean there is an
overabundance of cats in said apartment.
Dog personality based people are more of a social breed. These types on average are more likely
to be men. This is not much of a surprise since dogs are usually referred to as man s best friend.
Their personalities center on being conservative and extroverted (Reader s Digest). As such, they
hold to tradition and are an outgoing, overtly expressive person. Within social gatherings, they
move around a lot usually seeking attention or people to talk to. Their sense of humor tends to be
drawn to slapstick humor. Slapstick is a type of broad physical comedy involving boisterous,
violent activities which may exceed the boundaries of common sense. The home life of a dog
person usually resides within rural areas, and are most often married with a family.
There is always the chance that someone could prefer both cats and dogs. This fact is supported
by people who have both, but are more likely to think in the same fashion of a dog person. In this
case you are also likely to talk to your animals, possibly have a four year degree and even dislike
animal print clothing. I know those sound a little nuts but I have to admit when you need someone
to talk to cats are great. I am working on that four year

The coefficient of static friction between brass and different materials were experimentally
determined by observing slip angels. A brass block was placed at the top of different ramps made
of rubber, wood, sandpaper, and Teflon. Once the angle of the ramp was raised high enough the
block began to slip, the angle at this point was measured. Static friction reaches a maximum at the
slip angle, thus allowing the block to slip. Vector components, Newton s second law, and the
equation fs= Вµsn, can be used to derive the equation Вµs = tan(Жџ); the static coefficient of
friction equals tan(Жџ) of the slip angle. The ramp material and its respective slip angles were

The Reforms Of Gaius Marius And The Aftereffects Of The...
The first century BC brought about a number of important changes for the Roman army. Most
notably, the reforms of Gaius Marius and the aftereffects of both the Social and Civil Wars altered
the Roman army as a whole. Bringing about both continuity and change, these events would help to
shape the nature, composition and character of the army of the Late Republic period and beyond.
Change came in the form of reforms brought about by Marius; the changing of the conscription of
soldiers into the Roman army would alter not only the formation of the army, but also its nature and
character. Furthermore, the granting of full citizenship to non Roman troops who fought for the
Roman army meant a blurring of a distinct Roman identity, or what it meant to be a Roman.
However, despite these aspects of change, continuity too came out of this period. The troops of the
army post Marian reforms developed strong patron client relationships with their generals that were
not unlike the concept of the paterfamilias that had existed since the beginnings of Rome.
Furthermore, leadership of the army was put into the hands of a select few, as it always had been,
and these men would use the army as a means to further their personal ambitions.
The largest of these changes to the Roman army were arguably the changes Gaius Marius made in
the conscription of soldiers. Conscription pre Marius took the form of the state issuing a property
requirement for soldiers who wished to join the army. These men

Analysis Of Simone De Beauvoir s The Second Sex
The first text we explore in this step is Bonaventure s On Seeing God in his Image . Bonaventure
shows us that through inward reflection we can see God. God can then lead us to God s two most
important laws, and the best ways for us to live in community with others; by loving God, and our
neighbors. The next text is from the 2nd Vatican Council called Pastoral Constitution, which
focused on bringing the church into modern times. This text focuses on the importance of helping
those being marginalized, those who are on the brink of society, and what is the best way that the
Church as a community can fight to protect them. The following text comes from Simone de

One major link includes the fight between an oppressed group and their persecutors. Whether it s
the proletariat and the bourgeois in The Communist Manifesto, or the inequality of genders in
The Second Sex, or the flight of the African Americans in the Letter from Birmingham Jail . In
all of these texts we are shown how easy it is for one group to abuse their power and create
unfair rules and regulations only imposed on the more inferior members of society. Each group
of oppressor thrives off of alienating, and subjugating their inferiors. So it seems the theme of
solidarity is the only way to combat this linkage of oppression. In all of the texts we are shown
that through solidarity comes freedom. We see in Bonaventure, and Vatican Council II that all God
wants for God s people is inclusion, and to fight for the rights of the others of the world. In the
more secular texts from King, de Beauvoir, and Marx and Engels, we see the same ideas. The only
way to fight prejudice is to unite the people of either side of the problem, and have them work
together to make the whole of society a more inclusive place. By uniting together to fight
oppression we overcome the trivialities that separate seemingly opposing groups. The next theme
contingent throughout the step is the benefits of community. This is similar to the inclusiveness
that comes from solidarity, but through community we can prevent oppression from happening

Ambition In Beowulf, Federigos Falcon And Macbeth
What is ambition? Ambition is the longing to obtain success and power. The literature pieces
during the Anglo Saxon and Renaissance era illustrated the firm aspect of ambition. In Beowulf,
Federigos Falcon and Macbeth ambition is both evident but strong. The characters in the literature
pieces illustrated ambition throughout their triumphant journeys and showcase their braveness,
desire, and power.
Everyone dreams about perhaps one day achieving their goals and dreams that could sometimes be
impossible unless braveness is demonstrated. Why do individuals still try even though their chances
could sometimes be very minimum? Initially, several characters demonstrated the idea of ambition
with their act of braveness. In both the epic poetry Beowulf and the play Macbeth, Beowulf and
Macbeth demonstrated braveness upon many ways. Beowulf demonstrated how you should never
be afraid of anyone or anything size doesn t matter. Beowulf decided to fight the tremendous
dragon without worrying of the outcome. Beowulf showed braveness in the poetry because he did
something that no one else would do, which was to fight the dragon. As mentioned in the poetry
no one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but me (Beowulf 645). Macbeth portrayed his
braveness in a different perspective. Macbeth chased his ambition to become the King he was
willing to do anything for it. Macbeth showed the act of braveness by instead of protecting his king
he would kill him. Macbeth mentioned I am

Old Spice Masculinity
On the notion of Masculinity in The Man Your Man Could Smell Like
Old Spice s 2010 Commercial The Man Your Man Could Smell Like paints a truly unique image
of masculinity. On the one hand, the ad s uninterrupted shot and the actor s nonchalant demeanor
and wit leave us in awe. On the other hand, though, it also begs its viewers to sit back and reflect:
Wait...what did I just see? The ad markets Old Spice deodorants to female as well as male
audiences by directly associating them with the idea of hyper masculinity, insinuating that men who
use Old Spice deodorants possess the capability to accomplish virtually anything. For instance, the
Old Spice Man is depicted on a boat, possessing diamonds, and riding a horse (Old Spice). While

One can arguably claim that the expedients through which masculinity is portrayed in the video the
possession of diamonds, an abundance of wealth, an attractive physique are perhaps some of the
extreme yet most commonly cited characteristics of masculinity in society. They are the set of
actions with which we associate masculinity. Thus, the ad seems to capitalize upon these
characteristics in its depiction of masculinity: the Old Spice Man is well endowed with all of these
characteristics he is the alpha male. However, the ad targets only a few ideas associated with
masculinity, thus essentializing its performance of masculinity to merely a set of certain hyper
masculine characteristics. This enables us to see the essentially performative nature of masculinity,
and explains the ad s ridiculous simplification of

Chinese Culture vs. American Culture in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
An author s cultural background can play a large part in the authors writing. Amy Tan, a Chinese
American woman, uses the cultural values of Chinese women in American culture in her novel,
The Joy Luck Club. These cultural values shape the outcome of The Joy Luck Club. The two
cultural value systems create conflict between the characters.
In The Joy Luck Club, the chapter Waiting Between the Trees illustrates major concerns facing
Chinese American women. Chinese culture is a male dominated culture that leaves women little
freedom. Their only job is to make their male spouses content. Living with their traditional culture

She was very pretty when she was a young girl. She was educated like every Chinese woman
used to be: To be obedient, to honor one s parents, one s husband and to try to please him and his
family. Ying Ying was not taught to use her own digression and make her own waythrough life.
The result of this education was a disaster due to the differences in values between the two
cultures. Ying Ying realized that her marriage was a mistake when her husband left her for
another woman. Her love for him turned to hate and she killed her unborn baby. She felt great
remorse for this and considered herself a murderer. She later remarried a gentleman by the name of
St. Clair. With St. Clair she had a daughter. After her second son, which was her third child, died at
birth, Ying Ying had a mental breakdown. She saw his death as a punishment for the murdering her
first son.
Ying Ying became passive and lifeless after her second son died. She kept the fact that she felt
responsible for her second sons death a secret from her husband and daughter, Lena. As shown in
this example, Ying Ying had Chinese cultural values in an American society. This produces the
conflict between cultures. Ying Ying becomes so passive that she lets her husband make all of her
decisions for her.
Lena St.Clair, on the other hand, was born in America and lives like an American girl. But when
she was born, she sprang from me like a slippery fish, and had been swimming away ever since,

Consumer Culture In Pop Art
The pop movement established itself during the rapid multinational corporate American expansion
of the late 1950 s to mid 1960 s (Mamiya 1992, 14). Recognised for their study of subjects of
popular culture and incorporation of commercial techniques. (Burton 2007, 113), Pop artists
embraced the culture of the masses (Wilson 2011, 3). Although the Pop artists remained critically
aware of the shortcomings within consumer culture their entanglement with the mentality and
techniques of the culture ...surely rendered any potential for critique futile and invalid. (Mamiya
1992, 158). This essay will explore the interplay between critique and celebration of consumer
culture within Pop Artand possible reasons for the diversity in reaction. This will be achieved
through the study of the influence of consumer culture on the Pop artists, the artists response to this
emerging culture, as well as the positive and critical representations of consumer culture within
their work. The complex and contradictory relationship between consumer culture and pop artists
will be explored through Richard Hamilton s Just what is it that makes today s homes so different,
so appealing? (1956), Andy Warhol s Campbell s Soup Cans (1962) and Tom Wesselmann s Great
American Nude #54 (1964).
To discuss the pop artist s relationship with consumer culture, we must first define consumer culture
in the first Pop age. The swift rate of twentieth century technological advancements and

Themes Of Destino And Self Portrait As A Tehuana
Destino and Self Portrait as a Tehuana: Love s Journey Art is unappreciated today as people live
on their phones and sift through their Twitter feed, rather than visiting a local museum or art
gallery. The word art is very relative as it can represent just about anything ranging from a
complex realistic painting, to a simple red sheet of canvas, to a hit song on the radio. For
millennia, art has been used to convey the messages people want heard. The short film, Destino,
by Salvador Dali and Walt Disney, as well as the painting, Self Portrait as a Tehuana, by Frida
Khalo both exhibit the idea that love comes with difficulties and can be painful at times, but can
work itself out as two people move through their own lives. Destino tells a love story. One scene
in particular shows that the woman cares about the man, that he is on her mind. The woman
comes across a statue of a man. She gets very close to it, with her face nearly touching the statue
s, the woman then pulls away, and the face of the statue melts off. She is in shock, with her
hands on her cheeks. Her expression is grim, and there is a sad look in her eyes. Her reaction to
the man disappearing shows that she cares about him, whoever it was a statue of, and that he was
on her mind. Likewise, in the painting, Self Portrait as a Tehuana by Frida Kahlo, the same idea is
portrayed. In the portrait, Diego Riverais pictured on Frida Kahlo s forehead, symbolizing that he
is on her mind. Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo were married, and had their ups and downs.
Despite their struggles, Kahlo did not stop loving Rivera, with him always being on her mind.
Both pieces of art, the film Destino and the Self Portrait as a Tehuana both show that the male in
the relationship is on the female s mind. At a point in the film, the idea that the love between the
man and the woman will not last is displayed when the two are running toward each other and the
sand sinks. Huge rocks penetrate the ground and the two are separated by the giant walls in front
of them. This symbolizes the misfortune of their love as it appears unattainable due to the obstacles
in their wake. Similarly, in Kahlo s painting, the canvas is severely cracked, stemming from the
center of the

Of Mice and Men-Curleys Wife Analysis
Of Mice and Men is a novel set on a ranch in the Salinas Valley in California, during the Great
Depression of the 1930s by John Steinbeck. It was the first work to bring Steinbeck s national
recognition as a writer. The book addresses the real hopes and dreams of working class America.
Steinbeck s short novel raises the lives of the poor and dispossessed to a higher, symbolic level.
The title suggests that plans of Mice and Men often go awry, a reference to Robert Burn s poem To
a Mouse. Since the novel has been published, it has been called Vulgar and Offensive ; perhaps
because of the way it mentally handicapped people, people of different races (black people) and the
way in which women were portrayed. *Of Mice and Men is... Show more content on

that at one point in her life, she had dreamed of being a notable luminary. She also continues to
comment on her past by saying, this guy says I was a natural . This depicts how Curley s wife
may be influenced by the American dream so she may still have hope and dreams to carry out
her task which failed in the past. The American dream plays a vital theme constantly throughout
the book for other characters on the ranch too. George and Lennie have their dream of livin of
the fatha tha lan , which fails in the end as George tragically kills Lennie. They are perpetually
stirred with ideas to satisfy their dream and too eager to accomplish what they started which
resulted in them accidentally involving Crooks and Candy in their fairytale. . Hope is important to
all of Steinbeck s characters because it brings strength, joy, peace, unfailing love and most
importantly, rest (relaxation in hard times of the depression was critical). These are qualities the
ranch workers lacked and desperately needed

Martin Scorsese s Film, Taxi Driver Essay
Synopsis
Vietnam veteran Travis Bicklea finds that his life has been turned upside down after returning
America from the battle field. He suffers from the insomnia and sense of isolation, which leads
him to take a job as taxi driver at night; many of his customers represent the people from the lowest
class of society: prostitutes, adulterous husbands and wenchers. Since Travis has promised the cab
company that he will drive anywhere, at anytime, his likelihood of seeing the best of human
nature is fairly slim. So, he tries to create an extra occupational life for himself. He befriends

Especially in a scene where Bickle saves a manВЎВЇs life from a robbery where he gets away with
murder as the clerk would beat up the dead manВЎВЇs body. Though it might have seem gruesome
at the time, Scorsese doesnВЎВЇt pull back where he doesnВЎВЇt give any clear answer of Bickle,
in the terms of becoming normal. This is by far some top notch directing from one of NYCВЎВЇs
greatest visionaries.
In Taxi Driver, Scorsese manages his camera angles and editing to emphasize Travis seeing the
world through glass or mirrors, especially the windshield and rear view mirror of the taxi,
through which all major characters enter Taxi Driver: Betsy through the panes of an all glass
office; Palantine through his rear view mirror; and Iris and Sport in a fleeting glance in his
mirror. As Travis meets with a black market gun dealer, and in this scene the weapon literally
becomes the organ of perception. Scorsese situates his camera on Travis arm as that arm takes
the weapon and slowly pans it across the window looking down on the street below. Finally, in
the scene which has made Travis Bickle a cinematic icon ( Are you talking to me? ), Travis looks
into his mirror, challenges imaginary adversaries, and draws his various weapons in assault. The
ambiguity of the image is poignant: Travis looks into a mirror and makes a self destructive gesture
foreshadowing his attempted suicide at the climax of the film, and Travis peers through the looking
glass and

Describe the Basis of Feminist Criminology
The Basis Of Feminist Criminology Feminist criminology was created out of the realization that
criminology from its beginnings focused on the male criminal and the unlawful acts they
committed. When in the fact it could be argued female crime was studied as far back as 1800 s,
female criminal activity, its causes and the effects in which it placed on public opinion were often
disregarded. Over the past 20 years, there has been a significantly different approach in how females
are being dealt with inside the criminal justice system. This has been the result of a more
broadening law enforcement effort, stringent medication sentencing laws, and post conviction
limits to reentry that would greatly influence females. While there seems to... Show more content on

The response to the way women are dealt with, radical scholars agree that women turn to substance
abuse and criminal activity. Marxist women s activist conjecture bridges patriarchy into the
elements of free enterprise when female offenders are sentenced for property or sexual criminal
activity. Socialist feminism strives to create equal roles for women as, child bearers, servants, and
homemakers, so they can assume their licit place in society. Socialist feminism is a two part
theory on the basis that it increases the scope of Marxist s theories and the radical women s activist
theory .The extent of perception in women s activist criminology focuses on merging both society
and private sectors of a woman s livelihood and an end to the financial and the social continual
pattern of a woman s abuse.
2. Do you believe that this philosophy explains the cause of criminal behavior in women? I believe
that this train of thought addresses the cause of criminal behavior in women because many
viewpoints that fall under the umbrella of feminism are given as different causes of criminal
conduct in women .Feminist criminology lacks evidence of a woman s crime. Women s activist
theories not only strive to elucidate criminal wrong doing, exploitation and additionally join
together theory with practice to create more impartial answers for the crime at hand.

The Influence Of Righting Reflex On Earth
THE SCIENCE BEHIND; Why cats always land on their feet
Felines, such interesting animals, varying from a large ferocious lion to a meer house cat. These
creatures are powerful and very intelligent animals, with the occasionally clumsy cat. One of their
most used skills is their ability to leap, jump or fall and always land on their feet. They make it
look so easy. But do not be deceived, there is actually some complicated feline effort and science
that goes into their graceful tumbles and leaps.
Righting Reflex, that s the basic and simple answer. The righting Reflex is a cat s ability to almost
instantaneously turn itself towards the ground, allowing itself to almost always land on their feet,
but there always that cat who will be distracted by a bird or something. Cats have a very flexible
backbone which is what allows them to turn in midair so quickly, they have 30 vertebrae, which

The American Family Should Be Like The Cosby Show, A...
There are several shows that portray both social and political messages. While answering this
question, I can t help but focus on shows that have exhibited what the American family should be
like. The Cosby Show, a social message, is an American sitcom the show focuses on the
Huxtable s, an upper middle class African American family living in Brooklyn, NY. I think the
show set the standards for how African American families should live, although many of us don
t live that way. 4. Kendrick Lamar is a hip hop recording artist, and for the African American
community he has been a huge social movement. I realized this during a pop culture class I took
this semester. His new album, To Pimp A Butterfly specifically, shows his dedication to trying to
bring positivity to his listeners. He recognizes that hip hop has some responsibility for the
systematic problems that the black community has faced. And according to, Music.Mic, Hip hop
could have played a huge role in the death of Michael Brown, with a New York Times obituary
implying that Brown s hip hop aspirations somehow factored into Brown s death. 5. In simple
terms, a public relations nightmare is when someone s ( a company as a whole or an individual s)
reputation is damaged which in essence is a nightmare and there s the responsibility of restoring the
image to the public, which typically consists of supporters and investors of the company and/or
individual. An example would be the Volkswagen case. Volkswagen

Boots Vs. Boot s Atomic Model Essay

more than a loyalty card; it is a very full CRM program. Boots invested an excess of 30 million
Sterling pounds for the loyalty card. Boot s Advantage Card is the largest smart card retail loyalty
card scheme in the world. The Advantage scheme currently has 12.3 million cardholders, and more
than 40% of transactions in store are now linked to the card. Prior to the national launch, Boots ran
two trials in two cities. The trials provided Boots with invaluable information and allowed them to
fine tune the program to maximise its financial contribution to the business before the decision was
made to roll it out nationally. By analysing the information provided through the Advantage Card,
Boots gained meaningful information into its customers shopping behaviour. It found that
Advantage cardholders shop more frequently than non cardholders, and on average spend 50%
more than non cardholders. The target market for the Advantage Card is females (83% of Boots

Swimming Shoulder Pain Overall, swimming shoulder pain is rampant within the sport. A recent study by Sein (2010) reports swimming shoulder pain in 91% of 13 25 year old elite swimmers. Ineffective Strengthening Programs: As I wrote in the intro, ineffective strengthening programs are too common in the world of swimming. Moreover, poor exercise execution is as common as kickboards on deck. When performing shoulder strengthening you should feel it in the shoulders, not the low back, or any other area! Also, we know eccentric muscular contractions create more force, so why are swimmers rushing through this phase during rotator cuff movements? Ensure slowness during any rotator cuff exercise for reducing swimming shoulder pain. 4. Neglecting the Role of the Rotator Cuff Muscle: One primary role of the rotator cuff is stabilization of the humuerus (upper shoulder bone) into the glenoid (the shoulder blade). If these muscles are fatigued or not strong in this role, excessive motion occurs at the joint, increasing the stress at the joint. Make sure to strengthen your rotator cuff with stabilization exercises. 5. Roator Cuff Damage Will Occur in Swimming: This may sound confusing, but rotator cuff damage will occur if you are an elite swimmer. Millions and millions of strokes increase shoulder stress and create damage at these muscles. If you are a competitive swimmer, this happens. To my next ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde By Robert Lewis Stevenson As the cities in the nineteenth century grew and expanded, more and more people moved from the countryside to said cities. With an increase in the size and population of the city a individual s anonymity increased as well. Both the Paris Morgue and the novella Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde written by Robert Lewis Stevenson portray the anonymity of modern city life. While middle class men often appreciated the anonymity of the city, because it allowed them to escape social class restrictions, they also feared some of the negative implications. The working class, on the other hand, might have enjoyed the new found entertainment options, however they also had to fear being victims of crime and ending as nameless corpses. Women, both from the middle class and working class, experienced more freedom through the entertainment and leisure time options available due to the anonymous character of the city. For the middle class man the anonymity of the city promised freedom from social restrictions, that hindered him from behaving in ways that were unseeming for a man of his standing. In his novella Stevenson writes about a wealthy middle class doctor, Dr. Henry Jekyll, who through a potion, could turn himself into a different person. This second personality of his being called Edward Hyde. Mr. Hyde represents the more sinister and evil part of Jekyll s personality, which had been split after he first took his potion. • 4. Great Depression Relief The Great Depression and the Progress to Relief The Great Depression has been marked as one of the darkest periods faced by the world after the Total War, WWI. Many in the U.S. can recall the good times felt in the 1920 s. Money could be made and credit was the norm, much the same, seen today. The despair that rolled on the world in 1929, when the stock market crashed brought much devastation not just to Americans, but the world. It is not that the struggle was necessary forgotten, just push to the back of minds as something that will never happen again. • 5. City Symphony Orchestra Case: City Symphony Orchestra The City Symphony Orchestra is a branch of the Center for Performing Arts. It performs regular concerts throughout the year and has been reasonably profitable in the past. However, in recent years, concert attendance has been declining and the Orchestra is looking for ways to boost attendance. The traditional customers of the Orchestra have been the older and more affluent segment of the population that live in the suburbs. The recent boom in the high tech sector, however, has created an affluent population that is younger and has different musical tastes. This younger affluent group prefers to live in the city rather than commute from the suburbs. Older people concerned about crime in the downtown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. The Existence of Racism Essay The Existence of Racism Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems, but has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a myth, it has become increasingly difficult to define (de Benoist, 1999, p. 11). Although the term wasn t officially featured in the Larousse Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de Benoist, 1999). Before delving into the complex concept of racism, it is recommended that the student who is writing on this topic first consider the notion of race, which has been described as a group of people with the same physical ... This argument is rooted in belief that some groups sport a more impressive biological pedigree than others and are therefore better than other groups from the moment of birth. Finally, there is the idea that suggests that group diversity is forged through social behavior (Vorster, 1999). In other words, some groups simply have greater physical or intellectual capacities than others, which allow them to be easily categorized on the basis of superiority and inferiority (Vorster, 1999). Interestingly, these ideas seem to transcend all cultural barriers, which is why racism is prevalent in both primitive as well as civilized societies. There are three major factors which need to be considered in order to provide a sufficient overview of racism that lends itself to further, more detailed analysis. First, there is the ideology mentioned earlier, the significance of which cannot be underestimated (Vorster, 2002). In fact, back in 1978, UNESCO [United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization] issued a Declaration of Race, which defined racism as, any theory claiming the intrinsic ... • 8. Technology And Its Effect On Technology Are we becoming way too dependent on technology and allowing it to take over our lives? The majority of people own at least one or more of these devices: a computer, laptop, tablet, or a cell phone. So many people seem unable to function through their daily routine without having access to some form of technologydevice. I m willing to bet that you have at least two of these devices in your home, too. Now, stop and think about how often we use technology devices throughout the day. As a result of the growing need for technological devices, we have become dependent on technology in the work place and school, for social media, and simple daily functions that we should be able to manage on our own. In the majority of businesses and many educational facilities, the use of technology devices has become a part of the regular equipment needed to be able to function throughout the day. Many businesses have gone paperless and depend solely on computers for all their record keeping, schedules, payroll, and various other files; but what happens when the lights go off and the day must go on? Very few businesses still keep printed hardcopies for daily use. We have placed ourselves in a situation where in some cases the only decision is to cancel upcoming events, appointments, or other scheduled activities for the day because our devices are not functioning. Numerous educational facilities are headed in the same direction, requiring use of computers and tablets as part of the daily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Public Art Essay Public Art Any drawn line that speaks about identity, dignity, and unity is art, (Chaz Bojorquey) is a statement that I agree with. Art is perceived differently from all people based on their culture, religion, personal taste, and many other factors. I believe that as long as what has been created is meaningful to either the creator or even to somebody that is viewing it, it should be considered art. Art in the public is a very controversial subject that brings up the important question of, Should public art be considered as real art, personally I think that it should be. I believe that the difference between art that is placed in a gallery and art that is visible by a community is the fact that what is acceptable in a gallery... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another possibly positive outcome of art in the public could be the affect that it may have on the younger generations. If children are being raised in a community where they can see art on a daily basis then I believe it will have a positive effect on their lives by allowing them to learn how to appreciate art and what it has to offer. Art being in the public is also a way to grant people, who do not have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of seeing something aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. It also makes a town more interesting to visit; no one wants to visit a town with not much excitement. I once went to an art festival in Baltimore, Maryland, where they had green marbles ground up and put into the black top roads. This sight alone made my heart race and made this town more exciting. For towns that may have tourism it could be a way to attract to coming there or maybe even staying. Art can also be a controversial at the same time. There are many people who express their idea of art in a way that, in my opinion, should not be seen by the public. For example, many people consider paintings of naked women to be art, as do I, but I do not think it is appropriate for a painting of that nature to become a piece of public art. Another example is people who use profanity in their art. Swearing is not appropriate for a child to see painted on the side of their neighborhood buildings. The thing ... Each person should look up to a minister in their lives and understand their methods along with their past and current positions. An interview is one of the best ways to discover these. The person I interviewed has been my pastorand guide since I was born. He has pastored at Community Baptist Church, the church I attend, my whole life. He has taught me most of the things I knew concerning God previous to attending Barclay College. He baptized me when I decided to accept Jesusas my savior at seventeen years old and helped keep me with Christ throughout the years. I inquired of him the answers to four questions; How long have you been a pastor, and is Community Baptist Church the only one you ve pastored? , What do you consider to be your philosophy in ministry? , What type of educationdid you receive in order to become a pastor? , and, What is the story behind your call to worship? .... There are trillions of stars in our universe and all are distinctive and extraordinary. Their mass, color, shape makes them all distinctive but mass is the only thing that makes them unique. There are numerous phases of stars life including main sequencestars, red giants, white dwarfs, neutron stars, and dark holes. All stars additionally have a lot of varieties in each one phase of life. The life of a starstarts in a cloud, an incredible gathering of gas and dust. When enough mass has aggregated into a solitary item, gravity compels the mass to crumple into the middle. Because of weight and rubbing, the center gets so hot that it starts atomic combination and a protostar is made. It also describes and critiques measures that have recently been implemented by the Brazilian government in attempt to curb the further deterioration of society. In Brazil s society, neoliberal and capitalist beliefs within the social structure have hindered democratic politics. Diverse social groups are unable to come together and exert their political power as a united front, instead, the neoliberal belief of market power replacing citizenship power stratified the population based on capital. What all people of Brazil have in common is their citizenship and under the constitution, each citizen is entitled to equal access in the political realm. Brazil attempts to achieve this by requiring everyone to cast an opinion in the form of a vote. Citizenship has provided common ground and an articulatory principle for an immense diversity of social movements that have adopted the language of right as a way of expressing their demands and because of this, citizenship is a crucial weapon not only in the struggle against social and economic exclusion and disparity but also in the broadening of dominant conceptions of politics. In the second amendment from the Bill of Rights, the founding fathers wrote that A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. This gives anyone (as long as they are not a convicted criminal) the unalienable right to possess a firearm. In a democracy, we should not have to justify owning a gun. If we need one for protection, hunting, or just because I have an interest in collecting firearms. It is really none of the governments concern on why we have them unless someone plans on using them the wrong way. Anyway, there are people who think that the government should ban something because of some people who abuse it. Why not ban alcohol? Or cigarettes? Or even cars? All of those have caused more causalities than gun ownership. Protection: Criminals exist, so I must protect myself. End of the discussion. A brass block was placed at the top of different ramps made of rubber, wood, sandpaper, and Teflon. Once the angle of the ramp was raised high enough the block began to slip, the angle at this point was measured. Static friction reaches a maximum at the slip angle, thus allowing the block to slip. Vector components, Newton s second law, and the equation fs= Вµsn, can be used to derive the equation Вµs = tan(Жџ); the static coefficient of friction equals tan(Жџ) of the slip angle. • 39. The Reforms Of Gaius Marius And The Aftereffects Of The... The first century BC brought about a number of important changes for the Roman army. Most notably, the reforms of Gaius Marius and the aftereffects of both the Social and Civil Wars altered the Roman army as a whole. Bringing about both continuity and change, these events would help to shape the nature, composition and character of the army of the Late Republic period and beyond. Change came in the form of reforms brought about by Marius; the changing of the conscription of soldiers into the Roman army would alter not only the formation of the army, but also its nature and character. Furthermore, the granting of full citizenship to non Roman troops who fought for the Roman army meant a blurring of a distinct Roman identity, or what it meant to be a Roman. However, despite these aspects of change, continuity too came out of this period. The troops of the army post Marian reforms developed strong patron client relationships with their generals that were not unlike the concept of the paterfamilias that had existed since the beginnings of Rome. Furthermore, leadership of the army was put into the hands of a select few, as it always had been, and these men would use the army as a means to further their personal ambitions. The largest of these changes to the Roman army were arguably the changes Gaius Marius made in the conscription of soldiers. Conscription pre Marius took the form of the state issuing a property requirement for soldiers who wished to join the army. These men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next text is from the 2nd Vatican Council called Pastoral Constitution, which focused on bringing the church into modern times. One major link includes the fight between an oppressed group and their persecutors. Whether it s the proletariat and the bourgeois in The Communist Manifesto, or the inequality of genders in The Second Sex, or the flight of the African Americans in the Letter from Birmingham Jail . In all of these texts we are shown how easy it is for one group to abuse their power and create unfair rules and regulations only imposed on the more inferior members of society. Each group of oppressor thrives off of alienating, and subjugating their inferiors. So it seems the theme of solidarity is the only way to combat this linkage of oppression. In all of the texts we are shown that through solidarity comes freedom. We see in Bonaventure, and Vatican Council II that all God wants for God s people is inclusion, and to fight for the rights of the others of the world. In the more secular texts from King, de Beauvoir, and Marx and Engels, we see the same ideas. The only way to fight prejudice is to unite the people of either side of the problem, and have them work together to make the whole of society a more inclusive place. By uniting together to fight oppression we overcome the trivialities that separate seemingly opposing groups. The next theme contingent throughout the step is the benefits of community. The literature pieces during the Anglo Saxon and Renaissance era illustrated the firm aspect of ambition. In Beowulf, Federigos Falcon and Macbeth ambition is both evident but strong. The characters in the literature pieces illustrated ambition throughout their triumphant journeys and showcase their braveness, desire, and power. Everyone dreams about perhaps one day achieving their goals and dreams that could sometimes be impossible unless braveness is demonstrated. Why do individuals still try even though their chances could sometimes be very minimum? Initially, several characters demonstrated the idea of ambition with their act of braveness. In both the epic poetry Beowulf and the play Macbeth, Beowulf and Macbeth demonstrated braveness upon many ways. Beowulf demonstrated how you should never be afraid of anyone or anything size doesn t matter. Beowulf decided to fight the tremendous dragon without worrying of the outcome. Beowulf showed braveness in the poetry because he did something that no one else would do, which was to fight the dragon. As mentioned in the poetry no one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but me (Beowulf 645). Macbeth portrayed his braveness in a different perspective. • 46. Themes Of Destino And Self Portrait As A Tehuana Destino and Self Portrait as a Tehuana: Love s Journey Art is unappreciated today as people live on their phones and sift through their Twitter feed, rather than visiting a local museum or art gallery. The word art is very relative as it can represent just about anything ranging from a complex realistic painting, to a simple red sheet of canvas, to a hit song on the radio. For millennia, art has been used to convey the messages people want heard. The short film, Destino, by Salvador Dali and Walt Disney, as well as the painting, Self Portrait as a Tehuana, by Frida Khalo both exhibit the idea that love comes with difficulties and can be painful at times, but can work itself out as two people move through their own lives. Destino tells a love story. One scene in particular shows that the woman cares about the man, that he is on her mind. The woman comes across a statue of a man. She gets very close to it, with her face nearly touching the statue s, the woman then pulls away, and the face of the statue melts off. She is in shock, with her hands on her cheeks. Her expression is grim, and there is a sad look in her eyes. Her reaction to the man disappearing shows that she cares about him, whoever it was a statue of, and that he was on her mind. Likewise, in the painting, Self Portrait as a Tehuana by Frida Kahlo, the same idea is portrayed. In the portrait, Diego Riverais pictured on Frida Kahlo s forehead, symbolizing that he is on her mind. Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo were married, and had their ups and downs. Despite their struggles, Kahlo did not stop loving Rivera, with him always being on her mind. Both pieces of art, the film Destino and the Self Portrait as a Tehuana both show that the male in the relationship is on the female s mind. At a point in the film, the idea that the love between the man and the woman will not last is displayed when the two are running toward each other and the sand sinks. Huge rocks penetrate the ground and the two are separated by the giant walls in front of them. This symbolizes the misfortune of their love as it appears unattainable due to the obstacles in their wake. Boots first began planning a loyalty card in November 1993, but what they built is much more than a loyalty card; it is a very full CRM program. Boots invested an excess of 30 million Sterling pounds for the loyalty card. Boot s Advantage Card is the largest smart card retail loyalty card scheme in the world. The Advantage scheme currently has 12.3 million cardholders, and more than 40% of transactions in store are now linked to the card. Prior to the national launch, Boots ran two trials in two cities. The trials provided Boots with invaluable information and allowed them to fine tune the program to maximise its financial contribution to the business before the decision was made to roll it out nationally. By analysing the information provided through the Advantage Card, Boots gained meaningful information into its customers shopping behaviour. It found that Advantage cardholders shop more frequently than non cardholders, and on average spend 50% more than non cardholders. The target market for the Advantage Card is females (83% of Boots customers are female) aged 20 45. The value ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
