Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland caused by aging. As the prostate grows larger, it compresses the urethra and causes problems with urination such as difficulty starting or stopping urination and needing to urinate frequently or urgently. If left untreated, BPH can lead to urinary retention or damage to the kidneys. Treatment options include medications to relax the prostate or reduce its size, minimally invasive procedures, and surgery to remove part of the prostate. Nursing care focuses on managing symptoms, educating patients, and preventing complications after treatment.
